Unbeaten Hallandale wins district title over Boynton Beach Hallandale High's football team ran up and down the field all night on Halloween, scoring points and piling up yardage, but beating previously unbeaten Boynton Beach 38-36 came down to a 5-9, 130-pound senior kicker to give the Chargers their first unbeaten (9-0) regular season in school history. Kicking into a cool breeze, Celso Lopez made a 31-yard field goal with three seconds left – only his third field goal all season – and Hallandale celebrated a second district title. Hallandale came into the much-anticipated matchup ranked No. 6 in the state in Class 6A. Boynton Beach, led by four-star University of Louisville commit Lamar Jackson at quarterback, was No. 4. Two unbeaten teams with plenty of firepower on offense. Unlike many hyped games, this one played up to its billing – and more. After leading most of the game, Hallandale fell behind with 37 seconds. But the Chargers moved 43 yards in 22 seconds after the kickoff to set up Lopez’s attempt with eight seconds left. Now, head coach Dameon Jones and the Chargers await Miami Northwestern on Friday, Nov. 14 in the first round of the state playoffs - at home.
