Those are the exact words of Dan Murphy, Economic Development Manager for the city. Driving east on Dania Beach Boulevard to the beach, the changes are very apparent. The old Dania Beach Hotel on the corner of Dania Beach Boulevard and Federal Highway has been leveled, with the property planned to be the keystone of downtown redevelopment with an

upscale multimillion dollar condo complete with restaurants and retail space. There is also signage indicating that the Hollywood Holocaust Museum will be relocating to a renovated building on Federal Highway just south of Old Griffin Road. The two shopping centers east of Federal Highway on the south side of Dania Beach Boulevard were the first commercial upgrades several years ago for

this formerly sleepy city. Across the street, Key College and several commercial buildings add another perspective to growth. One block east, Dania Beach Jai-Alai and Casino and its surrounding property was recently purchased by an Argentine group with plans for a large expansion of the gaming areas, while retaining normal activity for Jai-Alai and pari-mutuel fans; plans are also pro-

Larry Blustein, editor of South Florida Sun Times, frequent sports writer for the Miami Herald, high school sports commentator on WQAM, and highly visible interviewer on ESPN’s Generation Next Sports Network, has been struggling to win his own game during the past ten years. Larry has been very open in the media in his personal battle with polycystic kidney disease and has been an outspoken voice for the countless children and adults waiting for transplants as their health deteriorates.
