A DOG’S DINNER

Marleybones has just launched a sustainable and highly nutritious dog food subscription that has nothing to hide. It was founded in 2019 by mother and daughter duo Suzie and Olivia. As the business has grown over the last 12 months, the rest of the family (Scott and Alistair) have now become involved! Our ingredients are sustainable and sourced from renewable sources. There are no parabens or sulphates in our products. We don’t use any harsh chemicals; SLS, synthetic detergents and all are free from artificial colourings. All products are over 96% biodegradable.

WHAT IS MOO HAIR DOING TO PROTECT THE ENVIRONMENT AND BECOME SUSTAINABLE? Moo is doing several things to protect the environment and become even more sustainable. We don’t use any aerosols for our products, as they are harmful to the environment. All of our products come in a spritz.

Most of our products come in glass bottles or jars, which are fully recyclable. We are also trying to move away from single use plastic. The shampoos come with aluminium lids or plastic pump, and we encourage people to keep and re-use the pump.

There is no plastic in our packaging and all items are posted in fully recyclable cardboard and kraft paper padding. The labels are printed on recycled paper with vegetable ink. We do not test on animals, and we do not sell to any countries that test on animals either.

PUMPKIN PIE A recipe to use up the flesh of this seasonal vegetable this Halloween

Ingredients - Serves 6-8 FOR THE PASTRY

200g plain flour 40g crushed pecans 125g butter 2 tbsp. icing sugar 5 tsps. water

FOR THE PUMPKIN FILLING

450g pumpkin flesh, cut into chunks 2 large eggs plus 1 yolk 75g soft dark brown sugar 1 tsp. ground cinnamon ½ tsp. freshly grated nutmeg ½ tsp. ground allspice ½ tsp. ground cloves ½ tsp. ground ginger 275ml double cream

Add a little water to mix into dough.

Roll out the pastry so it’s will line a pie dish and chill for 10-15 minutes.

Line the pastry with baking paper and baking beans. Bake blind for 10 minutes. Remove the paper and beans, and return to the oven for a further 2-3 minutes.

Place the pumpkin pieces on a baking tray, cover with foil and roast for 20 minutes. When cooked, remove excess water by placing in a tea towell and squeezing.

Allow the pumpkin to cool, and blend in a food processor or mash into a puree.

Whisk the eggs and the yolk together in a large bowl.

Add the sugar, spices and the cream to a saucepan, and simmer.

Pour this mixture over the eggs and whisk, and gradually add the pumpkin puree and stir together.

Pour the filling into your pastry base, and bake for 35-40 minutes at 1800C Now serve your pumpkin pie warm or chilled with whipped cream – delicious!
