Hey Coyotes! I hope you are all relaxing & enjoying your Spring Break thus far! As we are nearing the end of April, be sure to keep track of your community service hours on the spreadsheet! The hour due date is around the corner; April 29th. Stay up to date with our Service Center if you are in need of your 40 hour requirement. As a heads up, you must retain 40 community service hours in order to be an inducted member this year. Other than that, we are also approaching the end of the school year. Hang tight & push through the end of this year! Stay safe & stay positive.

“Overall the experience was really nice. Though it did feel weird walking around the school while it was so empty just scouting around for trash. It’s been a while since I’ve done an in person volunteering so it was quite refreshing in a way. At the start it was quite confusing and I started wondering if I’d ever fill out the trash bag. However, I’m glad that I a lot of familiar faces and everyone tried helping each other out!”

“This was my favorite volunteer event by far. Being able to read to children was like going back in time to when older teenagers used to read to me, and it was so nice to see myself in their spot. We went into different classrooms in pairs, and time and Vassily took turns reading to the children. All of the kids were so sweet and funny. It made me really happy to see the children looking up to us.”

“As a new youth volunteer at the Windmill Library, I had to undergo an orientation which essentially taught me and a few others the ropes. I shelved books and DVDs while learning interesting details of my local library. While volunteering, I was able to connect with new people my age as we learned we share similar interests. I’m grateful for this opportunity as I think it directly impacts my community. The benefits are rewarding and I’m excused to continue the process.”

Last meeting, SWCTA’s key club held service hour workshops with stations celebrating National Craft Month, Women’s History Month, National Foreign Language Month, and National Nutrition Month. For National Craft Month, the key club board taught members how to make origami cranes that will be used as decorations for the upcoming inductions ceremony. “My favourite service opportunities are the ones where we give back to the community through arts and crafts so it was a given that this was one of the more enjoyable.” - Tiffany Le

“I really love learning languages and this activity was really fun and enjoyable. I loved all the languages on the board and how much participation there was. It shows how diverse Key Club is and how there are so many members, each of different ethnicity and origin. I was pretty happy when doing this activity. :)”

“I love supporting women's national history month. It's important to spread awareness about a topic that is still not treated with equality. Women throughout history have made important things happen for women in future generations. I loved being able to show how much appreciation I have to all of the women who helped give me a brighter future.”
