message from the president Samantha sze

Hey Key Club! I’m Samantha Sze, Southwest CTA Key Club President. It’s been a pretty fun filled month. We’ve been preparing for Regional Training Conference by teaching cheers and thinking of spirit gear ideas. In order to not fully burn out our members, we divided the club into smaller groups and learned a little bit more about our members. Each group did something different and it was up to the members to decide what they wanted to do. It was an amazing experience because we got a little insight as to what the members were interested in doing with the club and why they decided to join. Enjoy this month’s newsletter! I hope to see you soon!

Sincerely, Samantha Sze

It was my first time being able to volunteer in a place that consisted of food vending. It was interesting to me because it’s an experience I got to have that’s outside of culinary since we were not inside a kitchen. Volunteering was fun because I was able to meet new people and help as much as I can. I think the Greek Food Festival was a fun experience because it was my first time ever going there. Being able to witness the Greek culture was amazing, whether it was their food, their wardrobe, or their music.

Marissa Lazaro, CO 2019 The MDA Muscle Walk was a memorable experience. I was given the task to hand out bananas and water to the walkers. There was music and great energy from all of the participants and volunteers. I would hands down do it again.

The Great American Foodie Fest Volunteering at The Great American Foodie Fest was one of the best experiences I’ve had. Everyone had such great energy from the staff to the attendees. I was in charge of wrist banding the people coming in the festival and seeing the wide variety of people was astounding. Everyone was so ready to eat some great food! During my break, I had a chance to enjoy the great food at the festival and walk around. Overall, I truly enjoyed my time at the festival and hoped it never ended!

Reginal Training Conference Get in spirit!

RTC TIPS!

Get out your tutu’s, face paint, and spirit sticks! Dress up in black, bronze, and white to represent SWCTA!

Bring water and cough drops! Water and cough drops are essential for RTC, think about all the yelling you’ll be doing! Always make sure to stay hydrated and drink water.

Know your cheers! Make sure to know and practice all of the cheers! How are you going to get hyped up without knowing them? Before the actual rally, don’t forget to NOT SHARE THE CHEERS! Save the cheers for the competition, and stick with the side cheers!

When? October 28th, 2017 8am - 8pm Where? Green Valley High School On our key club instagram stroy, @swctakeyclub, we’ll post a picture of where to meet exactly!

Rules No Glitter! Please be sure to have no glitter on your spirit gear (including tutus and face paint) to ensure Green Valley HS’s campus stays clean!

Be Respectful Be courterous of the Green Valley HS campus, including inside of the classrooms- clean up your trash! Always have good sportsmanship- and don’t trashtalk other schools! Cheer them on!

Asian Cultural Festival

Volunteering for the Asian Culture Festival was pretty chill. My friends and I worked the entrance for performers and guided them to the stage and such. We did that for about 3 hours and then we were just placed in a room for the rest of the day. When we were given some time off, we checked out the festival which was pretty cool. There was a boba presentation in which they gave the audience free boba, and I got like three for myself. There was also kpop dance performances which were fun, since I really enjoy kpop. The performances weren't too good, but it was fun to see people do stuff that you're into as well. We also got paint tattoos on our arms which made us feel like kids again. Overall, that was my experience: gate entrance, stuck in a room, boba, paint tattoos, and cringey dance performances. -Rainy Tran, CO 2018
