Building Science 2 provided the understanding of buidling acoustics in relation to building design and construction. It also exposed the students to the understanding of lighting strategies, permanent and supplementary artificial lighting of interior, various types of artificial light sources, the importance of Colour Rendering Index (CRI) and simple calculation to determine uniform lighting for interiors. This module also integrated with architecture design Studio 4 or 5 to enable students to demonstrate their knowledge and understanding through application.

In this project, we were exposed to the understanding of daylighting, artificial lighting, interior and exterior acoustics characteristics in a specific space. In a group of five, we were required to find a place, determine the lighting and acoustic levels during peak and non-peak hours and calculate to determine if the space follows the legitimate levels by law. The final outcomes included 2 A3 boards of our lighting and acoustics analysis as well as a detailed report of our findings.

Looking at both the graph and the readings, the brighter areas are towards the entrance of the restaurants from the Walkway Area (due to natural daylight). A decline in the luminal reading can be observed from the graph as it goes towards the center of the restaurant. This is because the different types of artificial lighting fixtures used to illuminate the restaurant vary according to the function of space. The entrance has displays and food counters, hence the brighter type of lighting. The outdoor area of the restaurant receives much daylight, hence having a higher luminance reading.

INTERGRATION W I T H D E S I G N S T U D I O F O U R
COMMUNITY CENTRE This project was intergrated with the subject Architecture Design Studio 4. In this project, individually, we were required to develop our on opinions from our lighting and acoustics understandings. We were required to determine how many lighting bulbs did we need, what was the daylighting factor, the types of materials we needed to provide and how thick were they for acoustics purposes. This project helped a lot to further develop our design strategies. The final outcomes of this project are two A2 boards for lighting and acoustics as well as a booklet of our calculations.
F I N A L OUTCOME LIGHTING
For lighting, we were required to have 3 spaces with determined arrangements of bulbs and our analytical findings.
F I N A L OUTCOME ACOUSTICS
For acoustics, this board covered the materials that I used to protect the acoustic levels in different spaces.
