standard information on subject understanding the standard procedures of the architecture industry and the IBS system and method.

This project covered the extensive study of building construction through required projects that covered investigating through the latest and more advanced technology and practice of the industry. This consisted site analysis, documentation study of the industry, advanced construction systems, energy efficiency, embodied energy, waste management as well as the latest construction methods. This module taught to identify and collect relevant data, explain the set of architecture and structural documentation, relate structural elements, analyze the documents, evaluate the existing construction system, critique the issues of the current construction system and method as well generate alternative construction solutions through our very own designs. There are two sets of projects, first being individual and second being a group project. These two projects covered the understanding of the investigation, evaluation and application of the latest and more advance technological method and system of construction through our individual and group designs.

project1: design modification & documentation This project required the students to principles, practices and the details of construction technology. This included the alternative and current systems being used worldwide as well as in local context. We were required to use our design studio four’s project and adapt and implement on the alternative construction systems. This also required us to produce the development of working drawings to understand further how the different architecture working drawings work in the industry. The elements we had to cover as stated in the brief was; Floor system, Wall system, Roof system as well as Basement. This project was an individual project that spanned out about a month worth of research and study.

project2: industrialized building system This project focused on the use of the Industrialized Building System (IBS) and the understanding of the materials’ embodied energy. The system was to be understood fully by the venture of two integrated tasks; 1) to conduct a case study of a building that had been constructed using IBS and 2) to construct a model on an A2 base of a 3-storey apartment building with to imitate the case study’s IBS system and record the process and understand in this report. This report was to be conducted in the requirements’ method and was separated in three parts; part 1: case study, part 2: system implementation which covered the process and understanding of the IBS system used for model and the materials’ embodied energy, and appendix that included the working drawings used for the model as well as the calculations that has been conducted regarding the materials’ embodied energy.
