Jalan Tun HS Lee as may serve as a prominent route as a tourist attraction. Since the Masjid Jamek LRT is located at the “centre”, the users strategically uses the street towards the Central Market, which markets the traditional and many cultural art of Malaysia. This makes the markets/shops along the street very much alive. To accommodate the whole street to be ‘alive’ in trading “local” products, SITE A serves one of the prominent node of the street such that it may be the starting point of axis. Having the Central Market at the other end, I have decided to design an ART + Book market to showcase and sell the current local art that is blooming in Malaysia.

A MAGNET TO GATHER LOCAL ARTISTS

Since the local art culture has now evolved where local artists further develop their talents through paintings, graffiti, crafting, architecture, literature and design, they can also share their talents by teaching and events that can be handled in my building. These local artists may include Seni Bikin (furniture & craft design), Buki Fixi (literature), Fahmi Reza (painting & graphic design) and Nala (art and design), where they use art as their means of communication. My building is designed to accommodate these local artists for them to communicate their art to the people, both local and tourists.

EACH MARKET IS ONE ARTIST’S MARKET AREA FOR SHOWCASE AND TRADING

TO PROVIDE ENOUGH SUNLIGHT INTO THE BUILDING WITHOUT DAMAGING THE ARTWORKS

The Art Market is very free where the artifacts can be hung, placed, painted or mesh with the walls built. This idea is achieved by my own experiences throughout my ventures to local art events in town such as “RantaiART”, Artisan, Belia Fest and more. These events are made so as local artists can showcase and share their work and simply sell their works. Why not design a building specifically for this purpose?
