But it is also wonderful to glide along the Bentota river. Full of small islets, the landscape is unique, boasting an impressive flora and fauna.

There are even placid crocodiles. In town, it is not uncommon for tuck-tucks to stop and let a large iguana cross the road. The Association for the Protection of Sea Turtles also discovered a rare albino turtle.

URBAN BENTOTA Bentota is teeming with people. Driving is best left to the locals, unless you’re familiar with driving on the left and slalom-style. Tuck-tuck rides are an experience not to be missed. Visit the daily market, the large pink Buddha, the remains of the Galpata temple or the Brief Garden while the shops offer hundreds of varieties of teas, leathers and silks.

RELAXATION AND GASTRONOMY
