Yes, we have certainly had a tremendous stroke of luck. We live in this amazing place... Lake Como. In spring, in the season of flowering of azaleas and rhododendrons, this land of plenty receives a lot of admiring complements as in no other period of the year. A combination of landscape design, natural beauties and built heritage enchants everyone who has luck to visit one of the villas of the lake. We dedicate this issue to the most famous of them, the Villa Carlotta, a museum and a botanic garden extending over seven hectares, which for several decades has been carefully tended by the city authorities. The Villa Carlotta is the most visited museum on the lake. You can spend all day in its park admiring its secret arbors, alleys and blossoming labyrinths. In the garden there are more than 150 different azaleas and a whole forest of rhododendrons. It is an ideal place for a wedding, a honeymoon or just for relaxation. Today another kind of tourism is also coming into fashion, gastronomic tours. It is true that Como, renowned throughout the world for its silk production, used to pay little attention to its agriculture. Nevertheless, rare pioneers have revived the traditions of grandfathers and big entrepreneurs got engaged in the production of homemade products too. For the first time we have made a selection of local products, which are necessary for preparation of a great meal in local style. Milan will gladden our hearts with its most significant event, Salone del Mobile, a real holiday of crafts and creativity. It would be wrong to call it just a trade fair. It is a real hymn to design and to Italian ability to “live beautifully.” Even if you are indifferent to furniture, you will not be able to stay on the sidelines: people running from one vernissage to another will transfuse their joy and enthusiasm to you. And as a special treat we have prepared a life story of a wonderful person, a witness of an entire epoch… from Stalinist repressions to the fall of the Berlin Wall… We will present his story in the form of a novel, part by part, because it is an absolutely exclusive material and perhaps one day its author, Julia Turovskaya, will end up writing a book. I should also mention two remarkable interviews with two extraordinary ladies, fashion guru Helen Yarmak and ambassador of Italian culture in Russia Olga Strada.
