Another major housing scheme underway is the regeneration of Weir Mill: Capital&Centric’s £60m transformation of the town’s historic Weir Mill is creating a new vibrant neighbourhood. More than 250 design-led apartments are being created across the restored listed Victorian mill buildings and two neighbouring new-build blocks. From lush new greenery and outdoor hangouts to a mix of indie bars, restaurants and shops, Weir Mill has been designed to be a stand-out destination for Stockport Town Centre West, with a buzzing new public space on the banks of the Mersey.

New apartments are being developed alongside a new transport interchange
The distinct oval outline of Stockport town centre’s new Transport Interchange is taking shape to provide better, cleaner transport, a town centre park and new homes all in one place. Alongside a new bus station, a two-acre park and 196 high quality residential apartments will connect with a new walking and cycling bridge linking with Stockport’s train station at Stockport Exchange.
To be completed by Spring 2024, the new Interchange will further boost Stockport’s position as one of the best-connected town centres in the North-west.
As well as the new transport interchange and 196 apartments, the 130-acre site will include new leisure amenities and workspace.
Stockport 8
Stockport 8 will deliver one of the largest town centre regeneration projects in the UK. The eight-acre site will create a new digitally capable, walkable neighbourhood with initially more than 1,000 new homes. Early-stage plans also include retail, leisure, and office space.

Sitting alongside both the town’s historic viaduct and the new Transport Interchange. Stockport 8 is an important part of the town’s masterplan: to see Stockport become the most sustainable, liveable town centre in the region.
