Amo escribir historias y vivo con mi mascota, una gata llamada Frida.
I was born in London, UK. I have worked as a teacher for many years, teaching English to children in parts of the world like Hong Kong, Taipei—Taiwan—, Madrid—Spain—, and now in Los Cabos, Mexico. I love to write stories and live with my cat Frida.

Érase una vez una Jirafa Dromedaria que habitaba en la sabana africana. Esta curiosa jirafa vivía excluida de su manada porque era muy diferente. Su lomo parecía más el de un camello o un dromedario, incluso un tobogán. No gozaba del cuello largo del resto de las jirafas. Ninguno de sus parientes podía ver en ella el parentesco: no parecía una hermana ni una tía ni una prima lejana. Ni siquiera se veía como alguien con quien pudieran compartir el agua o las sabrosas acacias, pensaban las demás jirafas. Recelosas, observaban muy erguidas desde las alturas a aquel extraño animal jorobado.
Once upon a time, there was a Dromedary Giraffe that lived in the African savanna. This curious giraffe lived excluded from her herd because she was very different.

Her back resembled a dromedary’s or a camel’s back—or even a slide—. And she didn’t have a long and straight neck like the rest of the giraffes. None of her giraffe relatives could see in her an aunt or a sister, not even a distant cousin. She didn’t even seem like someone they could share water or tasty acacias with, the rest of the giraffes thought. Suspicious, tall from above they observed that strange hunch backed animal.
La Jirafa Dromedaria, cansada de esconderse y correr siempre detrás de la manada, decidió vagar sola por la sabana en busca de más jirafas dromedarias; en busca de una auténtica familia que en algo se le pareciera. Tras un tiempo buscando su nuevo hogar, la Jirafa Dromedaria creyó encontrar a un pariente al ver el pelaje de un leopardo que intentaba camuflarse entre el pastizal. La insensata jirafa se acercó al fiero animal hasta que casi pudo tocar sus finos y largos bigotes. Pero, al verla de cerca, el leopardo pensó que la jirafa era un camello con sarampión y se quedó tan asustado que concedió a la jirafa el tiempo justo para escapar.
After some time searching for a new home, the Dromedary Giraffe thought she had found it when she saw the fur of a leopard trying to camouflage himself among the pasture.
The foolish giraffe approached the fierce animal until she could almost feel his long and thin whiskers. But, seeing her up close, the leopard believed the giraffe to be a camel with measles. He froze with fear, giving the giraffe just enough time to escape.
The Dromedary Giraffe, tired of always hiding and running behind the herd, decided to wander alone through the savanna in search of more dromedary giraffes; in search of a real family that looked like her in some way.

Cansada de trotar en su huida, la Jirafa Dromedaria vio a lo lejos un paraíso colosal de antílopes. Pudo olfatear las hojas y las vainas frescas que cubrían los terrenos de aquel esbelto y bello animal. Pensó haber llegado a su hogar.
Tired of trotting to get away, the Dromedary Giraffe thought she had seen in the distance a colossal paradise of antelopes. She could smell the scent of the leaves and the fresh pods that covered the grounds of that slender and beautiful animal. She thought she was home.
Los antílopes dieron la bienvenida a aquella invitada curiosa y particular. Obsequiaron a la jirafa hierbas frescas de temporada y, al anochecer, la acomodaron en un humilde rincón fresco de pasto para que pudiera reposar. Al día siguiente, ya descansada, la Jirafa Dromedaria se divirtió de lo lindo con las pequeñas y juguetonas crías de antílope. Se deslizaban por su espalda jorobada como si recorrieran mil rampas y toboganes.
The antelopes welcomed that curious and particular guest. They fed her fresh seasonal herbs and, in the evening, accommodated her in a humble cool corner of grass so she could lie down. The next day, already rested, the Dromedary Giraffe had a great time with the playful baby antelopes, who slid down her hump as if it was a thousand ramps and slides.

How much grace and love there was in each of their gestures!
Qué extraño resultaba verla en medio de aquella tribu africana. Qué familia tan disparatada formaban. ¡Y qué felices eran los antílopes junto a su nueva amiga! La Jirafa Dromedaria, por primera vez, formaba parte de un grupo, de una manada. Nunca más se tuvo que poner en marcha por la sabana para buscar una familia.
It was odd to see her in the middle of that African tribe. What a crazy family they made! And how happy were the baby antelopes with their new friend! The Dromedary Giraffe, for the first time, was part of a group, of a herd. Never again she had to set off through the savanna in search of a family.

¿Qué es el calentamiento global? What is global warming?
KNOW your world Puede ser que últimamente hayas escuchado en la escuela, en internet o con tus papás el término “calentamiento global” y automáticamente sepas que algo anda mal. El calentamiento global es un problema grave que tenemos en la actualidad, aunque ya han pasado muchos años desde que Wallace S. Broecker usó el término por primera vez. En agosto de 1975, Broecker escribió un artículo para advertir a las personas sobre los extraños cambios en el clima.
You may have heard lately in school, on the internet, or with your parents the term “global warming” and automatically thought that something is wrong. Global warming is a serious problem we have nowadays, although it’s been many years since Wallace S. Broecker used the term for the first time. In August 1975, Broecker wrote an article to warn people about the strange changes in the climate.

Su teoría se basaba en los gases de efecto invernadero, que son gases que están en la atmósfera —una capa que envuelve a la Tierra— y que, como su nombre lo indica, actúan como un invernadero para nuestro planeta, equilibrando su temperatura para que podamos vivir en él. His theory was based on greenhouse gases, which are gases in the atmosphere—a layer that envelops the Earth—that, as their name suggests, act as a greenhouse for our planet, balancing its temperature so we can live on it. The problem with greenhouse gases is that humans are producing too much of them. This causes the Earth’s temperature to rise and unbalance all ecosystems. Every day that goes by we have more droughts and fires, floods, storms, and extreme temperatures, among many other consequences. In the atmosphere, it protects us from the sun’s rays. But, at ground level, it’s toxic for humans. The smog from cars and factories is altered by sunlight and becomes this harmful ozone. That’s why during the summer this is usually worse.

Valeria Asistimos a un evento de tenis. Para mí todo fue nuevo, ya que no había tenido la oportunidad de asistir a uno. Gracias a Mariana Brea, que nos invitó. Llegamos al evento con mis papás y hermanitas. Al principio me sentí nerviosa por conocer algo nuevo, pero a la vez muy emocionada. Caminamos y había varios juegos para los niños. Mis hermanitas y yo jugamos en varios. Algo que me gustó mucho fue un sillón cubierto de pelotas de tenis; no podía faltar mi foto ahí. 32

Mariana nos presentó a los chicos de Tendencia Kids, muy lindos y amables. Nos acompañaron a dar un recorrido. Jugamos tenis con unos niños que estaban ahí. Después subimos al estadio y pudimos ver un juego donde los tenistas profesionales jugaron con niños. De repente nos enfocó la cámara y salimos en la pantalla gigante; nos dio pena bailar. Bajamos las gradas y "me gané" una playera... bueno, el fotógrafo me ayudó a tenerla. Me puse mi playera, me la firmó el tenista Patiño y nos tomamos una foto juntos. Me gustó mucho esta experiencia. Tanto, que quiero empezar a jugar tenis.
We went to a tennis event. Everything was new to me since I haven’t had the opportunity to attend one before. Thanks to Mariana Brea, who invited us. We arrived at the event with my parents and little sisters. At first I felt nervous about experiencing something new, but at the same time very excited. We walked and there were several games for kids. My little sisters and I played in a few. One thing that I really liked was a tennis ball-covered armchair; I couldn’t miss getting a picture there. Mariana introduced us to the guys from Tendencia Kids, who were very nice and friendly. They went with us on a tour. We played tennis with some kids who were there. Later on, we walked up the stadium and watched a match where professional tennis players teamed up with kids. All of a sudden, the camera pointed at us and we were on the big screen; we felt embarrassed to dance. We went back downstairs and I “won” a t-shirt well, the photographer help me take it. I put my t-shirt on, got it signed by the tennis player Patiño and we took a picture together. I liked this experience a lot. So much, I’d like to start playing tennis.
Vanesa Fuimos a un evento de tenis con mi familia. Estuvo muy emocionante. Conocí cosas que no había visto. Al llegar caminamos y había varios juegos para los niños. Uno en especial me gustó mucho: me pusieron unos lentes de realidad virtual ¡¡y tenía que pegarle a los zombis con una pelota de tenis!! Fue muy real. Subimos al estadio con los chicos fotógrafos. Nos sentamos y vimos cómo jugaban los tenistas con unos niños. Bajamos y nos pudimos tomar una foto con un tenista profesional llamado Patiño. Realmente fue una experiencia increíble. Me encantó. Fue sorprendente y emocionante para mí.
I went to a tennis event with my family. It was very exciting. I experienced things I’d never seen before. When we arrived, we walked and saw a lot of kid games. I especially liked one in which they gave me virtual reality glasses, and I had to hit zombies with tennis balls!! It was very real. We went upstairs in the stadium with the photographers. We sat down and watched how the tennis players played with some kids. We went downstairs and were able to take a photo with a professional tennis player named Patiño. It really was an incredible experience. I loved it. It was surprising and exciting for me.

¿Cuál fue el primer libro que se imprimió? Which was the first book ever printed? Sutra de diamante fue el primer libro impreso que se conserva en la actualidad. Se imprimió alrededor del año 868 en China. Es un pergamino de 5 metros de largo que había estado oculto en una cueva cercana a Dunhuang, una importante ciudad en la antigua Ruta de la Seda. En el año 1900, un monje descubrió la entrada sellada de la cueva, en cuyo interior había 40 mil libros conservados perfectamente gracias al aire seco del desierto. ¡La Biblioteca Británica conserva esta copia. Diamond Sutra was the first printed book that is preserved to this day. It was printed around the year 868 in China. The fivemeter-long parchment had been hidden in a cave near Dunhuang, a famous city on the ancient Silk Road.

Imagínate que llegara un gran camión al parque más cercano de tu casa y de este bajara una carpa como de circo (pero más pequeña). Ahí muy cerca de tu casa pudieras, junto con tu familia, amigos y vecinos, ver un espectáculo súper divertido.

Al grito de los artistas más jóvenes nos enterábamos en el barrio o colonia que la gran carpa había llegado. El público se emocionaba al seguir a los gritones para conocer a los artistas, que tenían nombres muy peculiares, como Palillo (el rey de la carpa), Mantequilla, el Panzón Soto, Resortes, la Guayaba, Tin Tan, Clavillazo y, el más grande artista de México, Cantinflas.
At the scream of the younger artists the neighborhood knew the tent had arrived. The public was excited to follow the shouters to meet the artists, who had very peculiar names, such as Palillo (the king of the tent), Mantequilla, el Panzon Soto, Resortes, la Guayaba, Tin Tan, Clavillazo, and, the greatest artist in Mexico, Cantinflas. ¿Te imaginas un espectáculo hecho especialmente para ti? Woooow, magia, malabares, payasos, saltimbancos… ¡circo, maroma y teatro para todos nosotros!
En las carpas no había límites. Se podían disfrutar espectáculos de ópera, zarzuelas, dramas, comedias y cabaret. ¿Quieres saber algo más? Este tipo de teatro fue el primero en permitir la entrada a los niños. De hecho, la primera función del día era para divertirlos y entretenerlos.
There were no limits in the tents. You could enjoy opera, zarzuela, drama, comedy, and cabaret. Do you want to know something else? This kind of theater was the first to allow kids in. As a matter of fact, the first performance of the day was to entertain them.
