En la última edición del año, queremos agradecer a los cómplices de viaje que nos acompañaron por Comondú, Mulegé, La Paz y Loreto. Conocimos personas increíbles que nos guiaron, nos dieron entrevistas, hospedaje y abrieron su corazón con anécdotas memorables. Siempre regresamos a Los Cabos pensando que estos lugares están tan cerca y que deberíamos visitarlos más seguido.

Pero en Los Cabos, no nos quedamos atrás. A pesar de lo complicado del año, nos mantuvimos muy creativos, ¡una felicitación para quienes trabajan incansablemente para seguir posicionándonos como una de las mejores ciudades para visitar!

Deseamos que estas fechas, en las que tomamos unos minutos para hacer recuento de nuestras acciones, el aprendizaje predomine por sobre todo y haya metas cumplidas. ¡Brindamos porque así sea!

In our final edition for this year, 2023, we would like to express our gratitude towards the travel accomplices who accompanied us on our journey through Comondú, Mulegé, La Paz, and Loreto. We had the pleasure of meeting incredible people who provided us with guidance, inspiration, interviews, lodging, and unforgettable stories. We always return to Los Cabos with a renewed sense of wonder and gratitude, knowing that these incredible places are so close and waiting to be visited more often.

In Los Cabos, we have exhibited extraordinary creativity and resilience despite this year’s challenges. This complicated year has made us resolute, united, and more tenacious to make 2024 even better. So “Congratulations!” It is indeed commendable to witness the unwavering efforts of those who have worked tirelessly to maintain our status as one of the most desirable cities to visit!

Los Cabos es sinónimo de sol, playa y vacaciones envidiables, pero también de sorpresa y naturaleza, aventuras e imágenes inolvidables. Este municipio, enclavado en el sur del Estado destina nuevas oportunidades una y otra vez.

Haciendo de lado el turismo de lujo, por el cual Los Cabos ha adquirido fama y premios, la zona rural tiene opciones entre montañas y desierto, alejados del mágico azul del mar para dar paso al verde, al amarillo, al rojo y una gama de colores que, combinados, sostienen un verdadero espectáculo en todos los sentidos.

​Para los aficionados al senderismo y al turismo sostenible, entendido como aquel cuya responsabilidad hacia la naturaleza es prioritaria, los parajes que rodean los poblados relativamente cercanos a San José del Cabo y Cabo San Lucas deparan aventuras, y con un poco de suerte, la oportunidad de probar algunas recetas regionales.

Los Cabos is well-known for its sun, beaches, and enviable vacations, but it also offers surprises, nature, adventures, and unforgettable experiences. This municipality, located in the south of the state, provides new opportunities time and time again.

Apart from its well-known luxury tourism industry, Los Cabos offers a rural area with options for exploring mountains and deserts. This area is far from the magic of the blue sea and golden sunsets but instead provides a colorful spectacle of green, yellow, red, and other shades that combine to create a beautiful sight to behold.

For those who love hiking and prioritize responsible tourism towards nature, the landscapes surrounding the small towns relatively close to San José del Cabo and Cabo San Lucas offer a variety of adventures. With a bit of luck, this area also provides the opportunity to try out some of the regional recipes.

Se recomienda contratar los servicios de guías, porque conocen tesoros que enriquecen la travesía cultural. Los recorridos pueden ser caminando, a caballo, en vehículos 4x4. También hay que recordar que la comunicación telefónica e internet es intermitente, por lo que los mapas y radios son indispensables.

Viajando hacia Boca de la Sierra entre Caduaño y Miraflores podrás seguir el cauce del arroyo y explorar sus rincones que son el mejor lugar para alejarse de la cotidianidad y apreciar la naturaleza desde una perspectiva absolutamente diferente, los atardeceres son particularmente hermosos. Una opción más es explorar desde el Cañón de la Zorra hasta San Dionisio, en las faldas de Sierra de La Laguna.

Por el norte de Cabo San Lucas, pasando el aeropuerto, se llega a La Candelaria, un lugar definitivamente fuera de serie por lo alejado de la comunidad con 168 habitantes. El regreso puede efectuarse por el cauce del arroyo que llega a Migriño: lugar de insospechada belleza natural con vistas hacia el océano Pacifico.

Are you looking for an adventure? You could consider exploring from Zorra Canyon to San Dionisio, located in the foothills of Sierra de La Laguna.

To the north of Cabo San Lucas, you will find La Candelaria just after passing the airport. This place is unique due to its remote location, with only 168 inhabitants. While visiting, you can take a scenic route back through the stream bed that leads to Migriño, a beautiful spot that offers breathtaking views of the Pacific Ocean.

Con increíbles campos de golf, Los Cabos ha sido elegido para presentar en México el evento premium del PGA TOUR en México: World Wide Technology Championship. En esta edición, campo “El Cardonal”, en Diamante, es la sede para recibir a profesionales del deporte.

A través de una ceremonia inaugural —en presencia de Jim Kavanaugh, CEO de World Wide Technology; Tyler Dennis, presidente y EVP de PGA TOUR; Mike Abott, Sr. VP de operaciones en Diamante y Joe Mazzeo, director del torneo World Wide Championship—, el equipo organizador emitió la emoción de realizar este evento en un destino caracterizado por el lujo, hospitalidad y amenidades de primer nivel, destacando el enfoque en crear grandes experiencias y generar un impacto significativo en la comunidad local. Estos ideales son compartidos por el torneo, lo que ha permitido que la ciudad sume otro evento de clase mundial a su calendario, sumado a los valores naturales que emergen del deporte.

Los Cabos has been selected to host México's premier PGA TOUR event, the World Wide Technology Championship, featuring incredible golf courses. The magnificent El Cardonal at Diamante will host the professional sport's edition.

An opening ceremony was attended by Jim Kavanaugh, CEO of World Wide Technology, Tyler Dennis, President and EVP of PGA TOUR, Mike Abbott, Senior Vice President of Operations at Diamante, and Joe Mazzeo, World Wide Championship Tournament Director. The organizers expressed their excitement about hosting the event in a luxurious destination with hospitality and world-class amenities. They emphasized their focus on creating exceptional experiences and significantly impacting the local community. This tournament shares the same values as the city and adds another world-class event to its calendar, complemented by the natural values associated with the sport.

En representación de 16 países diferentes, 132 jugadores profesionales del PGA TOUR, incluyendo 38 golfistas internacionales, se enfrentarán a los desafíos de un campo diseñado por Tiger Woods, quien acompañó la ceremonia inaugural, donde debutó como diseñador de esta clase de espacios. A group of 132 PGA professional golfers from 16 countries, including 38 international players, will compete in this tournament. The silver trophy, which depicts the Arch of Cabo San Lucas, will be awarded to the winner, giving them a representative image of the tourist port.

Los mexicanos profesionales, Roberto Díaz, Sebastián Vázquez, José Cristóbal Islas e Isidro Benítez fueron los encargados de ejecutar el golpe inicial de la ceremonia de inauguración, que incluyó actos cívicos y ambientación de mariachis.

A lo largo de esta semana, las cuatro rondas serán transmitidas globalmente, a través de la extensa red de distribución televisiva mundial del PGA TOUR, incluyendo Golf Channel en Estados Unidos y Golf Channel Latin America en México y toda Latinoamérica. Internacionalmente, la cobertura del PGA TOUR está disponible en más de 200 países y territorios en 26 idiomas a través de 44 socios de transmisión y digitales.

Roberto Díaz, Sebastián Vázquez, José Cristóbal Islas, and Isidro Benítez, all accomplished Mexican professionals in their respective fields, were entrusted with the responsibility of orchestrating the opening shot of the opening ceremony. The event featured various civic acts and mariachi music, and the team executed their duties with precision and finesse. Their efforts set the tone for the ceremony and contributed to its success.

Throughout this week, the PGA TOUR will broadcast all four rounds worldwide through its extensive television distribution network, including Golf Channel in the United States and Golf Channel Latin America in Mexico and throughout Latin America. The PGA TOUR coverage is available internationally in over 200 countries and territories, in 26 languages, through 44 digital and broadcast partners.

An admirable effort on the part of World Wide Technology is the commitment to strengthening its bonds with the Los Cabos community by contributing to various philanthropic initiatives.

La Entrevista INTERVIEW

Juan Antonio Carbajal Figueroa

Comandante del H. Cuerpo de Bomberos y Rescatistas de Cabo San Lucas, Juan Antonio Carbajal Figueroa es una destacada figura de filantropía práctica y una fuente de motivación para quienes le rodean. Con su inquebrantable pasión por la educación continua y su participación en diversas instituciones de seguridad, da ejemplo de excelencia e inspira a otros.

A los siete años presenció la actuación de los bomberos que llegaron a rescatarlos tras un terrible accidente automovilístico en el que acompañaba a su padre. En ese momento nació su admiración por la profesión y sintió, por primera vez, el llamado a su vocación actual.

Debido a su corta edad, Juan Antonio, mejor conocido en Los Cabos como comandante Carbajal, tuvo que esperar a convertirse en adulto para entrar a un equipo de trabajo en el Cuerpo de Bomberos a los 19 años. Realizó todas las funciones que implica la dinámica laboral desde el mantenimiento de las unidades, hasta el entrenamiento profesional.

Juan Antonio Carbajal Figueroa, the Cabo San Lucas Fire Department's leader, is an outstanding figure of practical philanthropy and a significant source of motivation for those around him. With his unwavering passion for continuing education and active participation in various security institutions, he sets an example of excellence and inspires others to follow in his footsteps.

At the age of seven, he witnessed the actions of the fire department that arrived to rescue them after an awful car accident in which he was accompanying his father. At that moment, his admiration for the profession was born, and he felt, for the first time, the call to his current vocation.

Due to his young age, Juan Antonio, better known as "Commander Carbajal", had to wait until he turned 19 to join a work team in Los Cabos. He went through all the tasks involved in the work dynamics, including maintenance of the units and professional training, and emerged as a skilled and accomplished worker.

Como parte de su carrera, estudió y completó la licenciatura en Derecho en la Universidad UNIVER Los Cabos (ahora Universidad del Golfo de California) para gestionar eficazmente los aspectos legales en los que se involucra la institución que dirige.

“La unidad es una de las fortalezas más destacables en Los Cabos. Esto nos ha permitido generar planes de trabajo sólidos y un desempeño que ha sido reconocido dentro y fuera del país”.

El comandante Carbajal es una fuente vital de motivación para los miembros del Cuerpo de Bomberos y Rescate de Cabo San Lucas, y un componente crucial en la capacitación en la industria pública y privada en temas relacionados con la seguridad. A lo largo de su trayectoria, siempre ha enfatizado la importancia de soñar en grande y para hacerlo realidad.

“Generar una cultura de prevención nos permitirá encaminarnos a un estado de seguridad comunitaria y de concientización que nos beneficia a todos. La cultura de la prevención debe permear en la familia.”.

Cuando define el éxito de bomberos, cree firmemente que los valores familiares han sido los responsables de forjar el respeto y admiración por esta loable labor de compromiso social.

“A nivel personal, mi familia me inspira. En el ámbito profesional, el amor por mi profesión me motiva a contribuir con pasión y compromiso para ser parte de un mejor futuro, buscando incidir de manera positiva en las personas a mi alrededor”.

Su compromiso por ser un factor de cambio en la niñez lo ha llevado a promover múltiples actividades centradas al servicio social: rescate — acuático y de montaña—, sanidad, primeros auxilios e, incluso, banda de guerra. Los talleres se imparten cada sábado y están afiliados a la Secretaría de Educación Pública. Ha llevado la enseñanza un paso más allá con el Curso Bombero Profesional, en el que se imparte un sistema escolarizado de conocimiento técnico.

“Instituir una sociedad autónoma, independiente y resiliente es fundamental para el desarrollo de nuestro país. Cada aportación cuenta, los jóvenes son la promesa del mañana”.

Asimismo, es autor de obras como “Odile: la noche de las camisetas blancas” y, próximamente, un libro enfocado en liderazgo: tema que le apasiona y que ejerce de manera admirable, con un entusiasmo contagioso e inspirador que, inclusive, le ha llevado a crear grandes amistades por su carismática personalidad.

As part of his career, he pursued and completed a law degree at UNIVER Los Cabos University (now Universidad del Golfo de California) to effectively manage the legal aspects of his leadership position.

Commander Carbajal is a vital source of motivation for the Cabo San Lucas Fire and Rescue Corps members, and a crucial component in training agents from both public and private industries in safety-related topics. Throughout his journey, he has always emphasized the importance of dreaming big and making it a reality.

"Education must permeate the family. Generating a culture of prevention will allow us to move towards a state of community safety and awareness that benefits us all".

How can one define the success of firefighters? Commander Carbajal firmly believes that the family values of firefighters have earned them respect and admiration for their commendable social commitment.

"On a personal level, my family inspires me. On a professional level, my love for what I do motivates me to contribute with passion and commitment to create a better future, seeking positively to impact the people around me."

He is dedicated to making a positive impact on children's lives. He has organized various activities focusing on social service, aquatic and mountain rescue, health, first aid, and even war banding. These workshops take place every Saturday and are affiliated with the Secretariat of Public Education. Additionally, he has brought education to the next level by offering a Professional Firefighter Course, which teaches technical knowledge to its members through a school-based system.

"Creating an autonomous, independent, and resilient society is fundamental to the development of our country. Every contribution counts in integrated risk management, and young people are the promise of tomorrow".

He has also authored works such as "Odile: The Night of the white T-shirts" and soon, a book focused on leadership: a subject he is passionate about and which he practices admirably, with a contagious and inspirational enthusiasm that has even led him to create great friendships due to his charismatic personality. He will soon publish a book focused on leadership.

Juan Antonio Carbajal Figueroa is a true inspiration and mentor to many individuals. His dedication to continuing education is a testament to his unwavering desire and energy to improve himself and others.

El jueves 09 de noviembre se llevó a cabo la ceremonia de premiación de la 4ª edición de Culinary Awards Los Cabos, la cual se distinguió por celebrarse en la prestigiosa sede de Nobu Hotel Los Cabos: un escenario que cautivó a los invitados desde el momento de la llegada, acompañada de una lujosa exhibición de autos, montada por Mercedes Benz. La atmósfera fue espectacular, con cócteles exquisitamente preparados y una coordinación impecable que hizo que cada momento fuera inolvidable. No podemos dejar de mencionar a los extraordinarios anfitriones que contribuyeron a que la noche fuera única. Sin lugar a duda, Nobu Hotel Los Cabos proporcionó el telón de fondo perfecto para esta gala.

Culinary Awards, organizado por PR Solutions y Tendencia, celebra lo mejor de la propuesta gastronómica en el destino. En un proceso que se inició en marzo de este año, se evaluaron 169 restaurantes. Los ganadores en 36 categorías fueron revelados: siendo 17 determinados por el voto en línea del público, 17 determinados por un jurado compuesto por 70 expertos locales, más una nueva categoría propuesta por el Comité de Jurado: 'Restaurante Nominado por Jurado'. En esta última, el ganador fue el restaurante Talay ubicado en Montage Los Cabos, reconocido por el Comité de Jurado por su destacada contribución a la escena culinaria local.

On Thursday, November 9th, the 4th edition of Culinary Awards Los Cabos took place at the prestigious Nobu Hotel Los Cabos. The feeling of enchantment began the moment guests arrived at this venue and was enhanced by a lavish car display sponsored by Mercedes-Benz. The ambiance was nothing short of spectacular, featuring meticulously crafted cocktails that delighted the palates of attendees, all seamlessly orchestrated for an unforgettable experience. A special acknowledgment goes to the exceptional hosts who played a pivotal role in making the night truly one of a kind. Undoubtedly, Nobu Hotel Los Cabos provided the ideal canvas for this gala.

Culinary Awards, hosted by PR Solutions and Tendencia, celebrates the best in local cuisine. This journey started in March of this year, evaluating 169 restaurants. The winners in 36 categories were then revealed; 17 through public online votes, 17 chosen by a jury of 70 local experts, and a unique addition proposed by the Jury Committee—"Restaurant Nominated by Jury”. Una de las sorpresas más emotivas de la noche fue cuando el Comité Organizador, compuesto por Linda McHatton y Claudia del Pino, extendió un reconocimiento muy especial al 'Crítico Gastronómico', dedicado a Claudia Velo por toda su experiencia como crítica independiente, contribuyendo con sus reseñas al crecimiento continuo de la excelencia culinaria.

Asimismo, la empresa Reserva de la Familia José Cuervo y patrocinador de esta cuarta edición, entregó dos premios especiales a los restaurantes inscritos en Culinary Awards. Aldo Torres, ejecutivo de cuenta de Casa Cuervo, fue el encargado de nombrar a los ganadores en estas dos categorías especiales: el primero ‘Agave + Chocolate’, que consistió en elaborar el mejor maridaje con Tequila Reserva de la Familia Extra Añejo y un postre a base de chocolate y el segundo ‘Signature Cocktail RDF Platino’. El ganador de ambos premios fue Bar Esquina | Bahía Hotel & Beach House.

The award for 'Culinary Achievement,' presented by the Organizing Committee, was given to Nicksan. This recognition acknowledges three decades during which time Nicksan has enriched the culinary landscape of Los Cabos with its original culinary concept.

The event was marked by a special award for “Food Critic”. The award was presented by the Organizing Committee, consisting of Linda McHatton and Claudia del Pino. Claudia Velo was honored with this prestigious award, acknowledging her extensive experience as a critic and her contributions, through reviews, to the continuous improvement of culinary excellence in our destination.

Additionally, the company Reserva de la Familia José Cuervo, sponsor of this fourth edition, presented two special awards to the restaurants participating in the Culinary Awards. Aldo Torres, Casa Cuervo's account executive, announced the winners in these two special categories: the first one, 'Agave + Chocolate,' involved creating the best pairing with Tequila Reserva de la Familia Extra Añejo and a chocolate-based dessert, and the second one, 'Signature Cocktail RDF Platino.' Bar Esquina emerged as the winner in both categories.

Cabe resaltar que, en esta edición, se logró un total de 34,540 votos emitidos por el público, a través de la Aplicación Culinary Awards, marcando un aumento del 20% en comparación con el año anterior. Además, 12,933 usuarios votaron en línea por sus restaurantes favoritos, lo que representa un impresionante aumento del 80% en participación, con respecto al año pasado.

En este prestigioso evento, se dieron cita representantes de los 95 restaurantes que lograron al menos una nominación. La anfitriona de la noche fue Amparo García, quien amenizó una velada espectacular, y divertida.

El cóctel de recepción durante la Red Carpet fue una experiencia única, ambientada por el grupo musical de Gramusik; al ingresar, los invitados fueron recibidos con una envolvente interpretación, a cargo de Cosmic Trick. Más tarde, para celebrar la clausura de la gran gala, los invitados se dirigieron a The Mbar, ubicado en Nobu Residences donde el DJ invitado, Alejandro Rivas, y Moisés Pozos, DJ residente.

Una vez más, Culinary Awards Los Cabos contó con la destacada participación de la firma de auditoría, Crowe México. El director general, Iván Bautista, desempeñó un papel fundamental al entregar personalmente los sobres que contenían los resultados del meticuloso conteo y la validación del proceso de evaluación. Más de 18 empresas se unieron para hacer de este evento, no solo una celebración, sino "la noche más importante de la gastronomía en Los Cabos, Todos Santos y El Pescadero”.

Culinary Awards reafirmó su compromiso como empresa socialmente responsable al firmar un convenio con ASA Alimentaria y el Banco de Alimentos de México, con el objetivo de difundir información valiosa sobre sus acciones, buscando generar un impacto positivo para nuestra comunidad. Esta iniciativa busca fomentar la participación de un mayor número de restaurantes en Baja California Sur en el programa “Al Rescate”. Es importante mencionar que esta fue la primera edición donde se disminuyó el uso de plásticos, cumpliendo uno de los objetivos de desarrollo sustentable que marca la agenda 2030 de la Asamblea General de las Naciones Unidas.

Como cada año, se hace la maquetación de la Guía Gastronómica de Culinary Awards Los Cabos, una importante herramienta de consulta, a través de un directorio con los 169 restaurantes inscritos que se distribuye en el municipio de Los Cabos, para promover la gran oferta gastronómica disponible.

¿Qué representa la octava edición del Mifel Tennis Open by Telcel Oppo?

Para nosotros llegar a la octava edición, es irreal, se siente muy reciente del día que se inició este proyecto. Se tenía una idea sobre como serían las diferentes etapas. La respuesta de la gente y patrocinadores ha sido maravillosa y eso nos mantiene vigentes. Ahora tenemos un gran evento que, incluso con el movimiento a una nueva fecha al mes de febrero, incluye en el programa 4 jugadores del Top 10. Hay torneos que solo tienen un jugador, incluso torneos con más tiempo que el nuestro, llegan a dos jugadores del Top 10.

Estamos muy contentos por la emoción y participación de los aficionados, y por nuestra sede en Cabo Sports Complex.

¿Tener a estos cuatro jugadores podría considerarse uno de los desafíos?

Tener una clasificación de 250 torneos con 4 de los 10 primeros es complicado. Es raro, pero sin duda fue un objetivo que nos propusimos. Estos grandes jugadores del Top 10 juegan cada vez menos torneos. Este es un gran logro para nosotros.

¿Cómo han visto el impacto del Abierto de Tenis en la económica local?

What has it been like to reach the eighth edition of the Mifel Tennis Open by Telcel Oppo?

Reaching the eighth edition is surreal. It feels very recent. When this project began, we had an idea about the different stages. The response from the people and sponsors has been fantastic, giving us the motivation to move forward. (It should be noted that the ATP 250 Los Cabos Open is the classification for the Mifel Tennis Open by Telcel Oppo.)

Now, we have a great event that has been rescheduled for the month of February. We have 4 of the Top 10 players in the program, something that would never have been anticipated previously. Usually more established tennis tournaments have only 2 top players, so we are quite honored to have 4 of the Top 10 players participating in our Mifel Tennis Open by Telcel Oppo.

We are pleased about the excitement and participation of the fans, and our venue at the Cabo Sports Complex.

Could having these four players be considered one of the challenges, or are there more challenges?

Having a 250-tournament classification with 4 of the top 10 is difficult. It's rare, but without a doubt, it was a goal we set for ourselves. These great players in the Top 10 are playing fewer and fewer tournaments. This is a great achievement for us.

How have you seen the impact of the Tennis Open on the local economy?

Yes, the impact of this event on the economy has been very positive. It has created numerous employment opportunities, as we directly employ approximately one thousand people and work with six hotels exclusively for ATP players without sponsors or internal equipment. So far, we have generated 4,650 rooms per night during the event. The most recent tournament alone generated a revenue of 117 million MXN from national and international visitors.

Ahora que la fecha del torneo se cambió a febrero, ¿estás considerando nuevas estrategias de comunicación?

Es un mercado distinto, sin duda alguna la comunidad local es vital para nosotros porque arropan el torneo y estamos muy agradecidos. Ahora, nos estamos enfocando en tener más presencia en quienes serán nuestros posibles espectadores y hay una estrategia dirigida para esta nueva audiencia.

Además, estamos en pláticas con la representante de FITURCA en Los Ángeles, Susie Albin Najera y también trabajando en una estrategia con Rodrigo Esponda, director general de FITURCA que nos ha abierto las puertas para trabajar con su gente, por supuesto es algo fundamental para nosotros y aprovechar sus alianzas.

¿Cuál es la experiencia que se llevan los jugadores de Los Cabos?

Les encanta Los Cabos. La verdad es que son jugadores que viven el momento. Tienen 30 torneos a lo largo del año y para ellos venir a un juego con tanta hospitalidad y sincera amabilidad les hace sentir como si estuvieran volviendo a casa y es maravilloso. Se ha convertido en una de sus ciudades favoritas en muy poco tiempo. Incluso han agendado su regreso a Los Cabos de vacaciones.

¿Crees que Los Cabos se está ganando el corazón de los aficionados nacionales?

Pues mira, te puedo compartir que, a lo largo de los siete años, hemos visto muchísimos fanáticos de la Ciudad de México y del Estado de México en Los Cabos porque han encontrado un evento extraordinario, en un lugar espectacular con características distintas. La respuesta de la gente ha sido muy buena.

El crecimiento del torneo se ha dado de una manera importante. El primer año tuvimos 12.000 personas, este año tuvimos 33.000, pero hay que llevarlo con calma y responsabilidad. Por supuesto, nosotros priorizamos un evento sumamente familiar basado en el entretenimiento.

Now that the tournament date has been changed to February, are you considering new communication strategies?

It is a different market, but without a doubt, the community is vital to us. Specifically, the local community has played a significant role in making our event successful, and we are very grateful for their support. Moving forward, we focus on reaching potential spectators outside our immediate community. We have developed a targeted strategy to reach this audience and are excited to see the results.

We are discussing this with FITURCA's representative in Los Angeles, Susie Albin Najera. What is the experience that the Los Cabos players take with them?

They love Los Cabos. The truth is that they are players who live in the moment. They have 30 tournaments throughout the year, and for them to come to a game with such hospitality and sincere friendliness is a welcome change. It makes them feel like they are returning home, and it is wonderful. It has become one of their favorite cities. In the short time they have been here, and even though they come to work, it is evident that they have valued their visits. They have even rescheduled on occasions to return to Los Cabos for vacation.

Do you think Los Cabos is winning the hearts of the national tourists?

Over the past seven years, we have observed many fans from Mexico City and the State of Mexico visiting Los Cabos for our extraordinary event, held in a spectacular location with unique features. The audience response has been excellent.

The tournament has seen significant growth since its inception, and the first year had 12,000 attendees, while this year's attendance reached 33,000. As organizers, we prioritize creating a family-friendly and entertaining event.

Provino con la fundación de una misión establecida por el padre jesuita, Ignacio María Napoli en 1721. Santiago es un pueblo histórico, caracterizado por una amable comunidad dedicada, principalmente, a actividades agrícolas y comercio de producto local. La abundancia de agua y la fertilidad de sus tierras dotan esta zona de Los Cabos con un brillo particular, donde la naturaleza se escucha, se respira y se abraza.

En una travesía transformadora, Santiago es la prueba fehaciente de que el bienestar está en el lujo simple. Para llegar, tan solo se necesita dirigirse 55.1 km al norte de San José del Cabo por la Carretera Federal 1 de México. ¡Aquí es donde la aventura comienza!

Appeared with the foundation of a mission established by Jesuit Father Ignacio Maria Napoli in 1721, Santiago is a historic town, characterized by a friendly community dedicated mainly to agricultural activities and trade of local products. The abundance of water and the fertility of its lands endow this area of Los Cabos with a particular glow, where nature is heard, breathed, and always embraced.

In a transformative journey, Santiago is proof positive that well-being is in simple luxury. To get there, head 55.1 km north of San José del Cabo on Mexico's Federal Highway 1. This is where the adventure begins!

Fundada originalmente en agosto de 1721 en la Bahía de las Palmas, la misión de Santiago fue trasladada posteriormente al lugar donde se ubica la actual población, siendo el primer establecimiento hispano en Los Cabos. Con una historia arraigada en la obra misional, la industria de la caña fue el motor económico de la población desde mediados del siglo XIX. En la década de los sesenta, el expresidente Dwight D. Eisenhower, retirado de la vida militar y política, visitaba frecuentemente Santiago para cazar palomas en la laguna.

Originally founded in August 1721 in Bahía de las Palmas, the Santiago mission was later moved to its current location, becoming the first Hispanic settlement in Los Cabos. With a history rooted in missionary work, the sugar cane industry has been the primary source of economic activity for the town since the mid-19th century. In the 1960s, former President Dwight D. Eisenhower, retired from military and political life, frequently visited Santiago to hunt doves in the lagoon.

Luego de cruzar el ramal en dirección a Santiago —desde donde se vislumbran prístinos arroyos de arena clara en los que, posterior a las lluvias, se observa el agua que baja desde la serranía, en un recorrido que destella con los rayos de luz—, este espacio está dedicado a la cultura y la recreación familiar.

A su alrededor, existen pequeños puntos de comercio en el que vegetales, queso, machaca y dulces regionales se encuentran a la venta, en una proyección de la oferta de producto regional.

Es un sitio tranquilo, en el que, sentado en pequeñas bancas, se aprecia el acontecer diario de la vida en esta delegación, así como el sonido de los numerosos pájaros que habitan en los árboles.

Una caminata, permitirá observar los murales, coloridas fachadas antiguas y monumentos que atesoran la historia. Haz el itinerario sin olvidar detenerte a platicar con la gente de Santiago.

After crossing the branch road in the direction of Santiago —from where pristine streams of clear sand can be glimpsed in which, during the post-rainy season, threads of water can be seen flowing down from the mountain range, in a path that sparkles with rays of light and welcomes visitors—, this space is dedicated to culture and family recreation.

All around, there are small points of commerce where vegetables, cheese, machaca, and regional sweets are for sale, in a projection of the product offer.

It is a quiet place, where, sitting on small benches, you can appreciate the daily events of life in this delegation, as well as the sound of the many birds that live in the trees.

A walk will allow you to observe the murals, colorful old facades, and monuments that treasure the history of the community and that must be in the itinerary to reference the memory.

EL MIRADOR

Como la contemplación es una actividad que inevitablemente emerge al visitar Santiago, El Mirador permite una vista desde las alturas al oasis que influyó en el establecimiento misional de la región y que, hasta la actualidad, continúa siendo hogar para aves endémicas y migratorias, así como un importante punto de abastecimiento acuífero para el ganado y los seres vivos de este fascinante ecosistema.

Independientemente de la época, es un espacio cautivador y un colorido telón de fondo para capturar el recuerdo de la visita.

As contemplation is an activity that inevitably emerges in practice when visiting Santiago, El Mirador is a place that allows a view from the heights of the oasis that influenced the missionary establishment of the region and that, to this day, continues to be home to endemic and migratory birds, as well as an important point of water supply for livestock and the beings of this fascinating ecosystem.

Regardless of the time, it is a captivating space and a colorful backdrop to capture the memory of the visit.

RANCHO ECOLÓGICO “EL REFUGIO”

Ecological Ranch "El Refugio"

Con un estilo de vida muy particular en las serranías sudcalifornianas, Rancho Ecológico “El Refugio” conserva usos y costumbres en un espacio de retiro y aprendizaje ubicado en las faldas de Reserva de la Biósfera Sierra La Laguna. La actividad rural comienza con los primeros rayos de sol y el delicioso olor del café de talega, elaborado en las hornillas de la cocina al aire libre, techada con palma como muchos otros tejados realizados por conocedores de ese arte.

Las tradicionales tortillas de harina hechas a mano, recién salidas del comal, acompañaran el café de talega. Los integrantes de la familia formada por el matrimonio de Catarino Rosas Espinoza y María Luz López Torres son quienes iniciaron este proyecto para recibir viajeros. El rancho está cercado por enormes árboles, incluyendo un gigantesco higo silvestre de aproximadamente 500 años de antigüedad.

Los oficios de: talabartería, elaboración de dulces y platillos regionales atraen a numerosos estudiantes también, así como a viajeros que gustan de vivir y conocer la cotidianidad rural. Los amantes de la aventura también encuentran un abanico de actividades, tales como senderismo, rapel, escalada, avistamiento de flora y fauna local.

El Refugio

The very particular lifestyle of the southern Californian highlands with its uses and customs is projected by this space of retreat and learning, located in the foothills of the Sierra la Laguna Biosphere Reserve. The activity begins with the first rays of sunlight and the delicious scent of the Talega coffee, prepared on the stoves of the open-air kitchen, roofed with palm like many other roofs made by connoisseurs of this art in the area.

Here you can enjoy the traditional handmade flour tortillas, made by members of the family formed by the couple Catarino Rosas Espinoza and Maria Luz Lopez Torres, who started this project, surrounded by huge trees, including a giant wild fig approximately 500 years old.

Workshops such as saddlery, candy production, and regional dishes attract numerous students and national and international travelers to this sustainable ranch. Adventure lovers will also find a range of activities, such as hiking, rappelling, rock climbing, and local flora and fauna sightings.

En Los Cabos se encuentra uno de los sitios más ricos en restos paleontológicos. En 1964, César Osuna, delegado de Santiago, llevó a los científicos de la Academia de Ciencias de California a este sitio para estudiar fósiles. Durante su análisis, descubrieron fósiles de una especie de ostra del Plioceno llamada Ostrea califórnica osunai. Hans Lenz escribió: “Abundan las conchas, los caracoles, crustáceos y moluscos, pero también hay vertebras y huesos que por el tamaño pueden ser de ballenas; dientes de tiburones gigantes o de orca; una cabeza petrificada como la del delfín, habrá pertenecido a algún animal hoy extinto; el cuerpo fosilizado de un pelicano”.

In Los Cabos, there is one of the richest sites for paleontological remains. In 1964, Cesar Osuna, the delegate of Santiago, led the scientists of the California Academy of Sciences to this site to study the fossils. They discovered fossils of an oyster species from the Pliocene era named Ostrea califórnica osunai during their study. According to Hans Lenz's journal: “the site contains an abundance of shells, snails, crustaceans, and mollusks. There are also vertebrae and bones, which could belong to whales, teeth of giant sharks or killer whales, a petrified head resembling that of a dolphin, possibly belonging to an extinct animal, and the fossilized body of a pelican.”

SAN JORGE

Con poco más de 20 casas, San Jorge es un calmo poblado en el que, desde la llegada, la atención se centra en una pequeña iglesia dedicada al santo homónimo de la subdelegación. Al ingresar, coloridos vitrales dirigen la mirada hacia un altar de mármol, acompañado de figuras y elementos religiosos que embellecen este pintoresco recinto donde los feligreses manifiestan su devoción, de manera continua.

With just over 20 houses, San Jorge is a quiet village where, upon arrival, attention is focused on a small church dedicated to the namesake saint. Upon entering, colorful stained-glass windows lead the eye to a marble altar, accompanied by figures and religious elements that embellish this picturesque space where parishioners show their devotion, continuously.

SANTA RITA 5.

Por generaciones, el uso del agua termal ha sido promovido como un método beneficioso para la salud debido a las propiedades antinflamatorias y antioxidantes que se le atribuyen. En Santa Rita las familias suelen pasar su día disfrutando del abundante paisaje mientras chapotean entre piscinas naturales de agua tibia, donde algunos pececillos nadan curiosamente; incluso, si se guarda la suficiente calma, puede sentirse su toque en los pies.

Además, este lugar dentro de su lujo simple tiene instalaciones necesarias para prolongar la excursión con un picnic: palapas, asadores y espacios para sentarse. Para acceder, es necesario cumplir con una serie de medidas para conservación del ambiente y pagar una cuota de mantenimiento al ser una zona protegida por la Comisión Nacional Forestal (CONAFOR).

For generations, the use of thermal water has been promoted as a beneficial method for health due to the anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties attributed to it. In this sub-delegation, families often spend their day enjoying the abundant scenery while splashing among natural pools of warm water, where some little fish swim curiously; even if you are calm enough, you can feel their touch on your feet.

In addition, this place, which can be considered a relaxed luxury, has palapas, barbecue grills, and seating areas. To access it, it is necessary to comply with a series of environmental conservation measures and pay a maintenance fee as it is an area protected by the National Forestry Commission (CONAFOR).

LAS MANITAS

(Santa Anita)

UNA JOYA DE ARTE RUPESTRE EN LA SERRANÍA DE LOS CABOS

Precious Rock Art in the Los Cabos Mountain Range

Cuando se habla de pinturas rupestres en Baja California Sur, el norte de la península es reconocido por las muestras del gran mural en Sierra de San Francisco o la cueva de San Borjitas (también llamadas San Borja o San Borjita) en la Sierra de Guadalupe por ser las más grandes representaciones de arte prehistórico.

Sin embargo, la subdelegación de Santa Anita en San José del Cabo también presenta vestigios de arte sobre piedra que data de al menos 3000 años de antigüedad. Las huellas de pequeñas manos, líneas largas, puntos y algunos animales monteses como lagartijas adornan la superficie de una enorme roca ubicada al interior de Ramal de Los Naranjos, en una ubicación de lo más extraordinaria.

Con un magnetismo prodigioso, el lugar atrae por la obra de los edues o coras, grupo indígena que habitó el sur de la península hasta su extinción. Al visitarlo es inevitable imaginar la cotidianidad de las poblaciones que alguna vez caminaron por estos arroyos y veredas.

A medida que curioseas por cada sendero, las cascadas, la vibrante vegetación y las enormes rocas blancas llenan de asombro e inspiran para apreciar la belleza de la serranía, es inevitable sentirte diminuto ante la grandeza del mundo natural que te rodea.

When discussing cave paintings in Baja California Sur, the northern part of the peninsula is renowned for its outstanding examples of murals, such as those found in Sierra de San Francisco, or the cave of San Borjitas (also known as San Borja or San Borjita) located in the Sierra de Guadalupe for be the largest representations of prehistoric art.

The Santa Anita suburb in San José del Cabo features some impressive stone art that dates back at least 3,000 years. On a large rock inside Ramal de Los Naranjos are small handprints, long lines, dots, and images of wild animals, such as lizards, which decorate its surface. This location is truly extraordinary and worth a visit for anyone interested in ancient history.

The place has a certain magnetism that draws people in with the work of the Eduas or Coras, an indigenous group that used to live in the southern part of the peninsula until their extinction. When visiting, it's hard not to imagine daily life for the native populations who once walked along these streams and paths.

As you venture along each trail, the majestic waterfalls, vibrant vegetation, and massive white rocks fill you with wonder and inspire you to appreciate the beauty of this mountain range. You can't help but feel humbled by the grandeur of the natural world surrounding you.

AL NOROESTE DE SAN JOSÉ DEL CABO, LA RIBERA

Northwest of San José del Cabo, La Ribera

Con una población de menos de 8,000 habitantes, La Ribera es una delegación que comprende las comunidades de Cabo Pulmo, La Capilla y Santa Cruz desde 1999. Para llegar, existen dos vías: una tomando la carretera Transpeninsular, San José del Cabo-La Paz en 107.6 km por México 1 o por la zona costera al noroeste de la cabecera municipal de Los Cabos; esta segunda opción, y nuestra favorita, permite presenciar una serie de paisajes costeros por la terracería.

La población de La Ribera se originó con una población de pescadores y algunas rancherías dedicadas a la ganadería y a la agricultura. Eventualmente, con la apertura de algunos complejos turísticos, la comunidad creció en un segmento de población itinerante por los colaboradores y huéspedes.

Actualmente, residentes de otras zonas de Los Cabos y viajeros atraídos por las actividades en contacto con la naturaleza visitan la delegación, para nadar en la tranquilidad de sus playas, practicar esnórquel, windsurf y kitesurf en invierno, pesca deportiva, acampar, senderismo, entre otros.

La región es famosa por la frescura de los mariscos que se venden en pequeños puestos. Los productos regionales como miel, machaca, queso, empanadas y tamales son una muestra de los sabores locales.

Este viaje hacia al noroeste hasta La Ribera desde San José del Cabo vale la pena. ¡Habrá numerosas oportunidades para tomar fotografías!

With a population of less than 8,000, La Ribera has been a delegation comprising Cabo Pulmo, La Capilla, and Santa Cruz communities since 1999. There are two options to reach La Ribera. Both take approximately 2 hours to drive. One is by taking the Transpeninsular highway, San Jose del Cabo-La Paz, which is a fantastic way to get there, spanning 107.6 km through Mexico 1. Alternatively, our favorite is the dirt road that winds along the Los Cabos municipal capital's (La Paz) northwest coast. You will take delight in a breathtaking series of coastal landscapes.

La Ribera's population originated with local fishermen and some ranches that were dedicated to cattle ranching and agriculture. Over time, the community expanded with the arrival of tourists, who were served by local resorts. As a result, an itinerant population segment grew in the area, thanks to the guests and staff of these resorts.

Today, both locals from other regions of Los Cabos and travelers who enjoy outdoor activities come to the delegation to relax on its peaceful beaches, snorkel, windsurf, and kite surf during winter, go sport fishing, camping, and hiking, among other activities that bring them in contact with nature.

The region is renowned for its fresh seafood products, sold at small stands that allow you to explore the local flavors. Here, you can savor dishes like honey, machaca, cheese, empanadas, tamales, and other delicacies that showcase the unique seasoning of locally prepared recipes.

This northwest drive to La Ribera from San José del Cabo is worth it. Remember to take your camera, as there will be numerous photo opportunities that you do not want to miss!

La Ribera

Fue fundada en 1869 como una villa de pescadores y agricultores. “La Eureka” fue una importante hacienda donde se cultivaban frutas, hortalizas y pasturas que eran comercializadas por vía marítima, por lo que contaba con su propio embarcadero. En las inmediaciones del pueblo tuvo lugar una de las batallas más recordadas de la revolución, al enfrentarse el 14 de mayo de 1914 las tropas federales contra los orteguistas, falleciendo en medio del fuego el cabo Leocadio Fierro, quedando grabado este capítulo en el popular corrido del “Cabo Fierro”.

The town was established in 1869, initially as a fishing and farming village. "La Eureka" was an important hacienda in the area where fruits, vegetables, and pastures were cultivated and sold by sea. As a result, it had its pier. One of the most memorable battles of the revolution occurred in the town's vicinity on May 14, 1914. The federal troops faced off against the Orteguistas, and amid the gunfire, Corporal Leocadio Fierro lost his life. This event was documented in the popular corrido of "Cabo Fierro."

Difícilmente, las personas entusiastas por los océanos, les ha pasado desapercibida la comunidad de Cabo Pulmo. Área Natural Protegida, declarada como Patrimonio Natural de la Humanidad por la UNESCO, que ha atraído a un sinfín de viajeros a explorar el mundo ecosistémico de este gigantesco acuario natural.

Aunque puede accederse por la carretera transpeninsular San José del Cabo - La Paz, México 1, es altamente recomendable tomar la carretera por la zona costera, partiendo en dirección noroeste desde San José del Cabo para presenciar escenarios rústicos, coloreados con atisbos de flora y caminos dignos de aventura off road.

Durante sus inicios, los buzos perleros —quienes componían a la comunidad que apenas emergía— enseñaron a sus hijos a pescar. Sin embargo, con el tiempo la actividad dejó de ser sostenible y optaron por un cambio en el que, poco a poco, este oficio quedó erradicado.

Con la asesoría de buzos experimentados y científicos adquirieron conocimientos acerca de la importancia de los jardines marinos que formaban parte de su mar, descubriendo la trascendencia ecológica del único arrecife de coral en el golfo de California.

People from all over the world flock to Cabo Pulmo to experience the incredibly diverse ecosystem of this vast natural aquarium.

It may be tempting to take the Transpeninsular highway San José del Cabo - La Paz, Mexico 1, but trust us, you won't regret venturing northwest from San José del Cabo. The rustic scenery and colorful flora glimpses are a sight to behold, and the off-road adventure will leave you with unforgettable memories capturing the essence of this destination.

During its early days, the community consisted of pearl divers who passed on the fishing tradition to their children. However, over time, this practice became unsustainable, and the community had to adapt to a new way of life. As a result, fishing gradually became a thing of the past for them.

After consulting with experienced divers and scientists, they discovered the ecological significance of the only coral reef in the Gulf of California, learning about the importance of the marine gardens in their sea.

Cabo Pulmo is strictly governed by a culture of conservation, sustainability, and awareness of all activities practiced in the sub-delegation since 1995. The focus has been on promoting responsible tourism practices, which have been adopted to protect the environment.

• It is an excellent observation point for garropas (large species of Grouper), cabrillas, sharks, turtles, and many other species

• There are over 300 different species of fish

• It belongs to the Gulf of California (or Sea of Cortez) and is commonly referred to as the "Aquarium of the World" by Jacques-Yves Cousteau, a French naval researcher and explorer

• There are several impressive shark species found here, including bull, tiger, hammerhead, blacktip, and great white sharks

Durante los años cuarenta, el antropólogo William C. Massey exploró el área de la bahía y encontró algunos vestigios arqueológicos que consideró pertenecían a un grupo muy antiguo, él denominó, “Cultura de las Palmas”, debido a la tradición funeraria de pintar los cadáveres de rojo y colocarlos en envoltorios de hojas de palma. Después, el 6 de junio de 1995 el área fue declarada Parque Marino Nacional con el fin de proteger los arrecifes coralinos y la diversidad biológica del Golfo de California.

In the 1940s, anthropologist William C. Massey conducted research in the Bay Area and discovered some archaeological remains. Massey believed that these remains belonged to an ancient group he called the "Culture of the Palms". The name referred to the group's funerary tradition of painting the corpses red and placing them in palm leaf wrappings. Later, on June 6, 1995, the area was declared a National Marine Park. This was done to protect the coral reefs and biological diversity of the Gulf of California.

Como un abrazo de naturaleza, Miraflores es una delegación, a poco menos de una hora de San José del Cabo, que espera a los viajeros que buscan alejarse de la rutina y los espacios urbanos. Tras surgir como una región que emergió en el periodo misional, tiene una mezcla de espacios naturales y la esencia remanente de su historia. Conserva algunos oficios que se mantienen vigentes desde entonces como la elaboración de conservas, artículos de madera, cuero, entre otros. ¡El viaje continúa!

Miraflores

Miraflores is a beautiful place, located less than an hour away from San José del Cabo, that offers a perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of city life. It is a perfect blend of natural surroundings and rich history, dating back to the missionary period. Fundado bajo el nombre de “Rancho Viejo”, los pobladores se han dedicado a la ganadería y agricultura, también han conservado el oficio de la talabartería, elaborándose de manera artesanal sillas de montar, cinturones, sombreros y la tradicional cuera, abrigo empleado por los rancheros para protegerse de las espinas durante las labores en el campo. En junio de 1929 se inauguró en la calle principal el Monumento a la Madre, convirtiéndose en el primer reconocimiento a las madres levantado en Hispanoamérica.

This town was originally called "Rancho Viejo" and was primarily focused on cattle raising and agriculture. The town has a long-standing tradition of preserving the craft of saddlery, producing saddles, belts, hats, and the traditional leather coat that ranchers wear to protect themselves from thorns while working in the fields. In June 1929, the Monument to the Mother was inaugurated on the main street, becoming the first recognition of mothers to be erected in Latin America.

BOCA DE LA SIERRA 1.

Situado a las faldas de la Reserva de la Biósfera Sierra la Laguna, esta subdelegación de menos de 200 habitantes, posee una belleza que es pequeña muestra de la biodiversidad que representa al hogar del único bosque de pino-encino en Baja California Sur. Las imponentes montañas rodean translucidos cuerpos de agua en el Arroyo de San Bernardo, donde algunos peces se asoman curiosamente y donde amigos y familia se reúnen, especialmente durante el fin de semana. Visitar con respeto y cuidado es fundamental para minimizar el impacto ambiental y preservar el entorno.

Located at the foothills of the Sierra la Laguna Biosphere Reserve, this small sub-delegation is home to less than 200 inhabitants. Despite its small size, the area boasts immaculate beauty, which is a testament to the biodiversity of the only pine-oak forest in Baja California Sur. The Arroyo de San Bernardo is a picturesque setting, surrounded by imposing mountains and a translucent body of water. Small fish curiously peek out of the water, and it's a popular spot for friends and family to gather on weekends. Visiting the protected area with respect and care is essential to minimize environmental impact and preserve the surroundings.

EL RANCHITO 2.

Esta comunidad cuenta con abundantes espacios repletos de vegetación silvestre, zonas de cultivo y una atmósfera tranquila. Para los amantes de actividades como el senderismo o recorridos en ATV aquí encuentran veredas y caminos para explorar, extendiéndose incluso hasta Las Casitas, donde es posible vislumbrar furtivamente a las especies ganaderas propias de la región. Después de la lluvia, también es posible encontrar cauces que se suman a las experiencias en contacto con la naturaleza.

This community is blessed with an abundant wilderness and areas for cultivation, creating a peaceful atmosphere. Hiking enthusiasts and those who enjoy ATV tours can take advantage of the various trails and roads to explore the region, extending to Las Casitas. Catching a glimpse of the local livestock species is also possible while exploring the area. After rainfall, it is also possible to find streams that enhance the experience of being in nature.

CADUAÑO 3.

Actualmente, uno de los puntos destacables de la comunidad es la iglesia dedicada a Nuestra Señora de Fátima, ubicada frente a la plaza pública de Caduaño. Sin embargo, en el pasado fue popular debido al cultivo de caña de azúcar; esta actividad permitió que se produjera panocha de gajo, piloncillo, melcocha y guarapo o jugo de caña.

Por una vereda cercana, vive José María Ojeda Castro, mejor conocido como “Don Chema”. Hornea un panecillo llamado pan bache, espolvoreado con azúcar. Se dice que la receta tiene su origen en las tradiciones culinarias de los misioneros franciscanos que habitaron en la California del Sur. El pan bache es muy popular y Don Chema lo elabora de forma artesanal.

El recorrido hasta su horno, al interior de la zona de rancherías, es toda una experiencia. La charla con él y su familia que también participa en la elaboración del pan bache, son momentos muy amenos. Ser testigo del proceso es una experiencia encantadora que muestra una de las tradiciones sudcalifornianas.

Currently, one of this small community's most noteworthy features is the church dedicated to Our Lady of Fatima. It is situated in front of the public square of Caduaño. However, the area was well-known for cultivating sugar cane in the past. This activity produced various sweet delights such as panocha de gajo (a sweet made from cane juice and grapefruit and bitter orange peels), piloncillo (an unrefined whole cane sugar differentiated from Brown sugar which is refined white sugar that has molasses added back to it to achieve its darker color), melcocha (a sweet toffee/ taffy candy), and guarapo (cane juice).

A man named José María Ojeda Castro, also known as "Don Chema", lives near a trail. He bakes a bread roll called Pan Bache, sprinkled with sugar. The recipe for this bread roll is said to have originated from the culinary traditions of the Franciscan missionaries in the region. Pan Bache is very popular in the southern part of the Baja California peninsula. Don Chema makes this bread roll by hand in an artisanal way.

Visiting the interior of the ranchería zone and taking a tour of the oven is an incredible experience. It's fascinating to talk with the owner and his family, who all participate in making Pan Bache. Witnessing the process is a delightful experience, showcasing one of the Southern Californian rancher's enduring traditions.

EL CHAPULI

Luego de las lluvias, el arroyo que da paso a la comunidad se abastece con agua, convirtiéndose en otra zona donde los visitantes pueden presenciar el recorrido debajo de una abundante vegetación, compuesta por árboles frondosos como huamúchiles, palo verde y mezquite. Es una excelente opción para conocer una cara diferente de Los Cabos.

Following the rains, the community of the same name is blessed with a beautiful stream that flows through it. The stream is surrounded by various lush vegetation, including leafy trees like huamúchiles, palo verde, and mesquite, which create a picturesque and breathtaking scene. This spot offers a unique and alternative way to experience a different side of Los Cabos.

SAN VICENTE DE LA SIERRA

Como si de un hechizo magnético se tratara, esta zona montañosa perteneciente a la delegación de Cabo San Lucas atesora un paisaje que, durante el invierno, pareciera ser sacado de las florestas descritas en los cuentos de hadas. Contrario a lo que esperarías en la serranía de Baja California Sur, San Vicente de la Sierra posee una abundante vegetación, acompañada de coloridas flores, que es hogar de insectos, aves y otros animales.

Desde que tomas la ruta que conduce a este pequeño poblado de 27 habitantes es un estímulo a la exploración y la contemplación. Encaracolados caminos hacen la ilusión de estar en la cima de las montañas en completa desconexión con la dinámica de la ciudad.

El lugar se enriquece con frescas esencias propias de la herbolada de los montes, es perfecto para acampar y, por la noche, contemplar un destellante cielo cargado de estrellas brillantes, debido a la falta de contaminación lumínica.

El sonido del agua que corre por los arroyos, donde se alimenta el ganado, produce en el cuerpo una sensación de bienestar. Se dice que, en el pasado, habitantes de comunidades aledañas como San Felipe, El Sauzal y San José del Cabo arribaban San Vicente de la Sierra para la compra de ejemplares como chivas, cerdos y otros animales.

San Vicente de la Sierra cuenta apenas con una pequeña tienda, con horario limitado, que provee de artículos básicos de consumo, por lo que es recomendable planificar los insumos necesarios para la excursión. Con planificación, el subdelegado Félix Agúndez y su familia pueden organizar recorridos, ¿y por qué no?, alguna muestra de auténticas recetas sudcalifornianas, –como los chimangos con queso que nos invitaron en nuestra visita– para explorar la sazón regional. Otra visita obligada es conocer a Marcos Agúndez Ceseña fabrica recipientes de barro.

El verdadero lujo está en dejarte sorprender por la naturaleza y las personas que vas encontrando a tu paso por los senderos.

San Vicente de la Sierra, a mountainous area within the delegation of Cabo San Lucas, offers a mesmerizing winter landscape reminiscent of the forests described in fairy tales. Unlike what one would expect in the mountains of Baja California Sur, this region boasts abundant vegetation and a variety of colorful flowers, which serve as a home to a diverse range of insects, birds, and other animals.

San Vicente de la Sierra has a meager store with limited opening hours, which sells essential consumer items. Therefore, planning and bringing the necessary supplies for your visit is advisable. With careful planning, you can enjoy tours organized by subdelegado (representative) Félix Agúndez and his family. During our visit, we were invited to try some authentic Southern Californian dishes, such as the chimangos with cheese, to get a taste of the local cuisine. Visiting Marcos, who crafts and sells clay pots, is also part of the experience.

Visitors can experience the true essence of luxury by exploring nature's hidden and unexpected wonders along the trails.

María Faustina Wilkes Ritchie

Nació en Cabo San Lucas, Baja California Sur. En su profesión de docente y defensora de la identidad sanluqueña, se ha convertido en un reconocido personaje para la comunidad. Es sobrina de la destacada maestra Amelia Wilkes Ceseña.

Faustina atesora historias, anécdotas y vivencias en las que fue testigo de la evolución de un Cabo San Lucas, que pasó de ser un pequeño pueblo de alrededor de 40 familias de pescadores y empacadores de pescado, a un puerto turístico tan afamado.

Sus actividades infantiles, especialmente su amor por el baile, transportan a la maestra al pasado. También recuerda con cariño las actividades que realizaba con sus tías, entre ellas la tía Melucha, a quien cariñosamente llamaban "Amelia".

Es realmente notable cómo ha capturado la esencia de la comunidad de Cabo San Lucas en su libro: El Cabo San Lucas que yo conocí. Su increíble memoria le permitió recordar cada detalle, desde las historias de sus padres, tíos y amigos hasta las grandes personalidades que dieron vida al puerto pesquero. El libro está lleno de anécdotas, lugares, personajes, barcos, peces, olores, travesuras y aventuras que generan nostalgia. Transmite su pasión por la comunidad en cada página del libro. Es un tesoro de información.

La profesora es reconocida por su incansable trabajo en la difusión y conservación de la historia cabeña. Además, es considerada historiadora del municipio de Los Cabos y ha recibido reconocimientos por la difusión y conservación de la historia otorgados por la Sala de Lectura Hermanita de Ysabela, Yenekamú, A.C., y Café Cabo, en coordinación con el Instituto Sudcaliforniano de Cultura.

A través de su incasable labor y amor para preservar sus raíces, María Faustina Wilkes Ritchie se ha convertido en una figura muy querida y respetada. Inspira a otros a seguir sus pasos e impactar positivamente en la identidad de Los Cabos. En el futuro, "Profe. She was born in Cabo San Lucas, Baja California Sur. As an accomplished educator and devoted advocate for the “San Luqueña “culture, she has significantly impacted the Los Cabos community. Beyond her professional achievements, she is also the niece of the renowned teacher Amelia Wilkes Ceseña, a celebrated educator in her own right.

Faustina cherishes stories, anecdotes, and experiences that witnessed the evolution of Cabo San Lucas. The town transformed from a small fishing village with around 40 families consisting of fishermen and fish packers to a worldrenowned tourist destination.

Her childhood activities, especially her love of dancing, take the teacher back in time. Fondly, she also recalls the activities she participated in with her aunts, including Aunt Melucha, who was affectionately called "Amelia."

The professor is highly regarded for her tireless efforts in disseminating and preserving the history of Los Cabos. She is also considered an expert historian of the municipality of Los Cabos. Cariñosamente apodado como “Chucho Montaño” en la comunidad de Los Cabos, Jesús es oriundo de San José del Cabo y, desde joven, su espíritu inquieto, animado y aventurero, lo ha llevado a participar en múltiples disciplinas deportivas, culturales y artísticas.

​Se define como un comunicador con gran responsabilidad; amante de Sudcalifornia, de las pinturas rupestres y ávido promotor de la cultura cinematográfica y culinaria, así como defensor de las especies marinas y promotor de la pesca deportiva.

Durante años, su conocida participación en programas de radio, como “Despierta Pariente”, lo han llevado a acompañar a numerosos radioescuchas durante su rutina mañanera. Su presencia ha ayudado a innumerables oyentes a comenzar el día con alegría y optimismo. En la emisión radiofónica comparte sus gustos musicales, conocimiento y experiencias para contribuir positivamente a la sociedad al comienzo del día. Sintoniza su programa y descubre el efecto edificante que pueden tener tus mañanas.

El amor que mantiene hacia el séptimo arte lo llevó a fundar Cine Club Documental: iniciativa que dio origen para que se realizará el 1er foro de proyección, divulgación y debate de este género cinematográfico en Los Cabos. Cada martes, en punto de las 8pm, hay una cita en la Casa de la Cultura "Prof. Alfredo Green González", ubicada en San José del Cabo para la proyección semanal de documentales y participar en debates sobre el tema.

Otro de los proyectos personales que más le apasiona es Sashimi Fest: evento que fundó inspirado en la versatilidad que hay en la preparación de este popular platillo. Se realizará la 7ª edición en el marco de las fiestas tradicionales de San José del Cabo 2024, con la participación de invitados especiales. Restaurantes de hoteles, cocineros locales e, incluso, estudiantes formarán parte de esta competencia que pone a prueba la creatividad y la sazón de los participantes en sana convivencia.

Chucho Montaño es un fanático de la lectura, especialmente sobre temas de historia y filosofía. El gusto que mantiene por compartir su conocimiento y momentos con las personas con las que interactúa en su día a día, le ha ayudado a contagiar con su carácter jocoso, alegre y animado al público sudcaliforniano.

PRONÓSTICO DEL DÍA: UN MAR DE EMOCIONES EN MILÁN FASHION WEEK

Después del rotundo éxito en New York Fashion Week 2023, en el que Indira&Isidro Jewelry Design presentó la colección Espíritus del Alma, Primavera-Verano 2024 y tras presentar su pasarela el 11 de septiembre en el evento, el talentoso equipo se dispuso a recorrer al viejo mundo para participar en una de las pasarelas más importantes en las que, se dice, nace la moda: ¡Milán Fashion Week!

Su presencia en la plataforma “Fashion Vibes Milano” fue toda una odisea: el itinerario marcaba su presentación el día 22 de septiembre y la prueba de vestuario estaba pensada para el 18 de septiembre. Después de un riguroso proceso de selección, de entre más de 300 modelos, se hizo la elección de 20 chicas y 5 chicos que debían cumplir con ciertas características para que luciera la joyería en la forma más cautivadora posible.

Los colores de la vestimenta para la ocasión fueron: naranjas, terracota, marrón y chocolate que son la propuesta para el próximo año, así como unos monos blancos para apreciar la colección. Más de 150 piezas, entre exóticos bolsos de piel, aretes, brazaletes, collares, anillos con piedras preciosas y semipreciosas conquistaron al público que se asombró con llamativas creaciones.

Al llegar el gran día de la pasarela —un día nublado y con probabilidad de lluvias e, incluso, de tormenta eléctrica— los nervios propios de la ocasión se hicieron presente y, mientras elevaban una plegaria para que el evento no se cancelara. Desafortunadamente, recibieron una llamada telefónica informándoles que el lugar estaría cerrado debido a la alta probabilidad de tormenta eléctrica.

La celebración del Milán Fashion Week en el Palazzina Appiani, situada en el Castillo Sforzesco, implicaba un riesgo importante debido a los numerosos árboles en los alrededores. Al cerrarse el complejo, el municipio de Milán otorgó un permiso especial y a los participantes se les permitió entrar por una de las puertas laterales.

Inicialmente, se habían escogido 150 modelos para todos los diseñadores; sin embargo, solo se presentaron 80, mismas modelos que fueron compartidas por los ocho diseñadores de diferentes países, generando un caos detrás de los bastidores. A la anécdota del momento se sumaron las personas corriendo, cambiándose de ropa, vistiendo la joyería y vestuario, así como la adrenalina de saber que Indira & Isidro cerrarían el desfile.

La cereza en el pastel fue cuando, finalmente, la caminata se desarrolló, ganándose los aplausos y vítores del público, siendo las felicitaciones de pie la mejor recompensa de la noche, así como los comentarios positivos de los medios de comunicación.

Simplemente, una pasarela emocionante e inolvidable.

Today’s Forecast: Milan Fashion Week

Promises to be a Rollercoaster of Emotions

Indira&Isidro Jewelry Design had a resounding success at New York Fashion Week in 2023 with their Spirits of the Soul Spring-Summer 2024 collection. After showcasing their runway show on September 11, 2023, the talented team embarked on a journey to participate in one of the most anticipated catwalks where fashion is said to be born - Milan Fashion Week!

However, their presence on the "Fashion Vibes Milano" platform was quite an odyssey. Their wardrobe fitting was scheduled for September 18, 2023, followed by their presentation on September 22, 2023. After a rigorous selection process, twenty girls and five boys with specific characteristics were selected out of more than 300 models to showcase the jewelry in the most captivating way possible.

The clothing for the occasion featured colors such as orange, terracotta, brown, and chocolate. These colors were chosen as a proposal for next year, along with white overalls to highlight the jewelry. The attendees were impressed by the 150 pieces on display, which included exotic leather bags, earrings, bracelets, necklaces, and rings with precious and semi-precious stones. The striking creations left the audience in awe.

On the day of the big catwalk, the models were nervous because of the importance of the event. The weather was cloudy, with a possibility of rain and even a thunderstorm. They prayed that the show would not be canceled. Unfortunately, they received a phone call informing them that the venue would be closed due to the high probability of a thunderstorm.

A significant risk was involved in holding the event at Palazzina Appiani, which is situated within Castello Sforzesco, due to numerous trees in the vicinity. However, the municipality of Milan granted special permission to hold the show after closing the complex, and the participants were allowed to enter through one of the side gates of the Castle.

Initially, 150 models were chosen for all the designers. However, only 80 models were presented, and eight designers from different countries shared the same models. These circumstances caused chaos behind the scenes. The moment was filled with anecdotes of people rushing around, changing clothes, putting on jewelry and costumes, and feeling the adrenaline of knowing that Indira & Isidro Jewelry Designers would be closing the show.

Finally, after all the hard work, perseverance, and determination, the icing on the cake was when the walk finally unfolded. The best reward of the evening was the audience's applause and cheers, with standing congratulations and positive media comments.

This catwalk was nothing short of extraordinary - it was simply exhilarating and unforgettable.

Los sigilosos conductos subterráneos de la Plaza

“Antonio Mijares” en San José del Cabo

La historia comienza en el año de 1847, fecha de la intervención estadounidense a México. Se dice que las tropas de Estados Unidos enviaron a San José del Cabo un navío de la armada llamado “Portsmouth”, que era capitaneado por John M. Montgomery. Contaba con una tripulación compuesta por 14 hombres, quienes se apoderaron del pueblo, instalándose en la Casa Cural (ahora Casa de la Cultura "Prof. Alfredo Green González"). Desde esa sede pidieron la rendición de las autoridades locales y la entrega de toda propiedad pública a los Estados Unidos.

Ante la inconformidad, hubo personalidades locales que se organizaron para levantarse en armas y luchar contra los invasores. Durante el mes de octubre se organizó en San José del Cabo una manifestación en contra de los invasores estadounidenses; arrancaron la bandera norteamericana y expulsaron a los americanos civiles que vivían ahí. El entusiasmo popular había crecido entre los josefinos después de la victoria en Mulegé contra los mismos oponentes.

Los registros históricos relatan las fascinantes peripecias del comandante Shubrick, jefe de las fuerzas navales estadounidenses en el Pacífico. Dejó una tropa de 24 hombres a las órdenes del teniente Charles Heywood con provisiones para un mes. Sin embargo, Heywood se resguardó en la Casa Cural murando las puertas y ventanas, dejando solo troneras (muro o muralla desde donde se disparan con protección armas de fuego); también levantó un barandal en los techos y abrió un túnel para comunicarse con los edificios que le servían de apoyo, como la casa de la familia Moüet y la parroquia de San José del Cabo Añuití. Curiosamente, tuvo interés en mantener el contacto religioso, a pesar de que en ese momento la iglesia permanecía cerrada por la guerra.

Y ahora, alrededor de la plaza central, teniente José Antonio Mijares, en San José del Cabo, corre la leyenda de que existen conductos subterráneos que conectan algunos de los inmuebles josefinos. Algunos incluso afirman haber visto entradas. ¿Crees que estos túneles permanezcan?

The Mysterious Underground Tunnels of the "Antonio Mijares" Plaza in San José del Cabo

The year was 1847, and the United States had intervened in Mexico. American troops were dispatched to San José del Cabo as part of this intervention. On their arrival, they anchored their navy ship, the "Portsmouth", which was under the command of Captain John M. Montgomery. The ship's crew consisted of 14 men who quickly took possession of the town and made their base in the Casa Cural. This building is currently called Casa de la Cultura "Prof. Alfredo Green González". As part of their mission, the American troops issued a demand to the local authorities, insisting that they surrender all public property to the United States.

Local community leaders armed themselves to resist the invasion and combat nonconformity. In October, a protest was orchestrated in San José del Cabo, during which protesters brought down the American flag and expelled American civilians. The locals, commonly referred to as "the Josefinos," were ecstatic following their triumph over the same opponents in Mulegé.

Historical records recount the fascinating tale of Lieutenant Charles Heywood and his troupe of 24 soldiers left by Commander Shubrick, chief of the U.S. naval forces in the Pacific, with a month's supply of provisions. Instead of marching ahead, they found refuge in Casa Cural, a fortified structure. Heywood fortified the structure by walling up the doors and windows, leaving only narrow arrow slits (wall or rampart from which firearms can be fired with protection. He also raised a railing on the roofs and built a tunnel, which allowed him to communicate with nearby buildings like the Moüet family house and the parish of San José del Cabo Añuití. It's worth noting that Heywood remained curiously committed to maintaining religious connections despite the church's closure due to the ongoing war.

Today, a local legend in San Jose del Cabo claims some of Josefino's most prominent properties are connected by mysterious subway conduits (underground tunnels). Lieutenant Jose Antonio Mijares is believed to be the source of this tale, but there is no concrete evidence to support it. José Antonio Mijares (1819–1847) was a Mexican Army Lieutenant who led the Mexican resistance against the Americans in the Battle of San Jose Del Cabo, where he was killed leading the assault. Today, Lieutenant José Antonio Mijares’ monument stands proudly in San José del Cabo. However, there is no official record of the tunnels’ existence, and it remains unclear whether they were ever constructed.

Despite the lack of evidence, locals and tourists alike are fascinated by the idea of these mysterious underground tunnels. Some even claim to have seen entrances to the tunnels while exploring the town. Whether the tunnels remain or not, the legend lives on and continues to intrigue visitors to this day. Ha llegado el invierno y la ciudad de La Paz se ha adornado con nuevos matices para recibir a aquellos aventureros que desean explorar y descubrir las maravillas que rodean a la capital de la península de Baja California Sur, particularmente las relacionadas con la vida marina. Antes de iniciar, sugerimos tomar en cuenta las siguientes actividades marítimas a incluir en su itinerario:

Lobos Marinos

Estas amigables criaturas son una especie protegida en México. Aunque habitan durante todo el año en el golfo de California, es recomendable realizar esnórquel junto a los lobos marinos en la fecha de septiembre a mayo. Excursión para el Avistamiento de Ballenas Grises

En invierno es la temporada ideal para realizar excursiones y conocer a estos cetáceos que visitan las cálidas aguas de Baja California Sur de diciembre a abril para aparearse y dar a luz a sus ballenatos. En el municipio de La Paz, Puerto Chale es el único santuario de ballena gris y, debido a las condiciones geográficas, los pequeños crías pueden observarse desde la embarcación en un espectáculo asombroso y conmovedor.

During The Winter

Winter has arrived, and La Paz has adorned itself with new hues to welcome those adventurous individuals who are eager to continue exploring and discovering the marvels that surround the capital of the Baja California Sur peninsula - particularly the ones related to marine life. Before starting, travelers should consider the following various maritime activities to be included in their itinerary:

Sea Lions

These friendly creatures are a protected species in Mexico. Although they live year-round in the Gulf of California, snorkeling with sea lions from September to May is advisable. In San Rafaelito, a part of the Natural Protected Area, Balandra Beach has an impressive sea lion rookery where you can observe the species' behavior in its natural habitat, following the guidelines established by CONANP and SEMARNAT.

Bird Watching

There are large colonies of migratory birds, which can be observed and photographed from a boat. It is an ecotourism experience that involves knowledge and understanding of the different species.

Grey Whale Watching Excursion

It is the ideal season for excursions to meet these cetaceans that visit the warm waters of Baja California Sur during the winter (December - April) to reproduce and give birth. In La Paz, Puerto Chale is the only grey whale sanctuary, and due to the geographical conditions, the small whale calves can be observed from the boat in an impressive and moving spectacle.

Snorkeling in Virgin Beaches

Swimming under the crystal-clear water of the Gulf of California is a beautiful glimpse into a world with a wide variety of colorful fish that you can find on beaches such as Punta Arenas de la Ventana, El Tecolote Beach, Ensenada Grande Beach, and Pichilingue Beach.

The name "California", in Mexico, has an interesting origin, as it has been mentioned in various ancient legends. One such legend dates to the 15th century when a book called "Las Sergas de Esplandián" was written. It referred to an island called California, which was said to be populated only by women led by their queen, Calafia.

According to Hernán Cortés' imagination, a land in California existeda desert terrain where he arrived on May 3, 1535, in the bay of La Santa Cruz (now known as Bahía de La Paz)). Cortés launched an assault on this first encounter, years later known as the spiritual conquest.

For centuries, writers have penned tales of ships and conquests, and this activity has been especially prominent in the peninsula that poetically resembles a firm arm, boasting enchanting spaces such as islands, a gulf, the Pacific Ocean, and the sierras. These elements harmonize perfectly, blending the sun, the sea, and the desert, creating California's unique landscape.

The rich history of Mexican California, filled with pirates, Jesuits, and Conquistadors, has forged an inspiring region. It has been chiseled by the resilient Californios of the past and reimagined in the present as it looks towards a bright and promising future.

Californidad: a History, Roots, and Identity Initiative

¿Qué es Californidad? Para responder a la pregunta, tenemos que retroceder en la línea del tiempo hasta el origen de la palabra “California”, que aparece en 1510 por primera vez en la novela de caballería “Las Sergas de Esplandían” de Garci Rodríguez de Montalvo.

El acercamiento a la Mar del Sur

Se dice, que, en 1536, cuando Hernán Cortés llegó a península, los españoles percibieron que era “Cálida Fornax”, es decir, una tierra caliente como horno. Hernán Cortés influenciado por las historias de caballerías y mitologías fantásticas lo animaron siempre a ir en busca de tierras para conquistar más allá de lo conocido. Entonces, se nombró a la nueva tierra descubierta al extremo sur de la península –hoy Cabo San Lucas– como “California”, en referencia a la fantástica isla de “Las Sergas de Esplandían”. Cortés observó elementos que revelaban cierta similitud con los fabulosos relatos.

The Approach to the South Sea

In 1536, when Hernán Cortés arrived on the peninsula, the Spaniards perceived it to be a land as hot as an oven and referred to it as "Cálida Fornax". The stories of chivalry and fantastic mythologies that always encouraged Cortés to explore lands beyond influenced him. Thus, when the southern tip of the peninsula, today known as Cabo San Lucas, was discovered, it was named "California", after the fantastic island of "Las Sergas de Esplandían". Cortés observed elements in this new land like those in the fabulous tales.

El historiador español Francisco López de Gómara mencionó la "Isla de California" en su libro "Historia General de las Indias" publicado en 1552. En ese momento, se creía que la península era una isla, además así convenía a los intereses de Hernán Cortés. Más tarde se descubrió que estaba unida al continente. En 1535, la región hoy conocida como La Paz fue nombrada "Isla o Bahía de la Santa Cruz".

Con el paso del tiempo, California empieza a surgir en mapas geográficos, unida al macizo continental y su nombre resuena en etapas históricas peninsulares, pasó por procesos misionales, invasiones, urbanizaciones y descubrimientos territoriales; por lo que el nombre, “California”, se dividió en Alta California y Baja California. En un episodio de la historia en 1846, Alta California, se unió a Estados Unidos y Baja California continúo formando parte de México.

Después de una exhaustiva investigación liderada por escritores, el cronista municipal e Instituto de la Cultura y las Artes de Los Cabos quedó establecida la conmemoración del "Día de la Californidad" el 14 de noviembre. Esta celebración es un precedente a la conciencia histórica y cultural sobre el significado del nombre California.

En el Día de la Californidad es imprescindible recordar que los soldados de Hernán Cortés —en una expedición exploradora, sufragada por él mismo— bautizaron la zona con el nombre de “Cabo California” a lo que hoy se conoce como Cabo San Lucas.

Spanish historian Francisco López de Gómara mentioned the "Isla de California" in his book "Historia General de las Indias" in 1552. At that time, it was believed to be a separate island located at the southern tip of the peninsula, but it was later discovered to be attached to the mainland. In 1535, the region now known as La Paz was named "Isla o Bahía de la Santa Cruz" (Island or Bay of the Holy Cross).

California became a part of the mainland on geographical maps as time passed. Previously, topographers did not acknowledge this perspective. Its name is closely associated with the rich history of the peninsula. California went through different phases of history, such as being colonized by missionaries, invaded, urbanized, and explored. Consequently, the name "California" was divided into Alta California (Upper California) and Baja California (Lower California). In 1846, Alta California became part of the United States, while Baja California remained a part of Mexico.

The "Día de la Californidad" commemoration was established on November 14th after a thorough investigation led by writers, municipal chroniclers, and the Los Cabos Institute of Culture. This commemoration marks the first step towards creating historical and cultural awareness of the significance of the name California.

On the Day of the Californidad, it is essential to remember that the soldiers of Hernán Cortés' exploratory expedition, which he funded himself, baptized the area with the name "Cabo California" to what is now known as Cabo San Lucas.

Descendencia del jesuita: Lorenzo Carranco

Descendants of the Jesuit Father, Lorenzo Carranco

Son diversos los aspectos históricos que pueden atraparnos del carácter misional de Santiago. Uno de ellos, es la vida de Lorenzo Carranco Barrientos, originario de Cholula, Puebla –en aquel entonces, Nueva España—. Este misionero jesuita fue enviado a la península en 1727 para suceder al jesuita siciliano, Ignacio María Nápoli, en la Misión de Santiago de los Coras. Desafortunadamente, fue asesinado por los pericúes, luego de ser atado y arrastrado por las inmediaciones. Años más tarde, de forma similar, el misionero jesuita Nicolás Tamaral sería también ejecutado el 2 de octubre de 1734.

Lorenzo Carranco hizo prosperar esta misión gracias a su perseverancia en la evangelización. Muchos habitantes se convirtieron al cristianismo bajo su dirección. Les enseñó a construir viviendas, cultivar la tierra y domesticar animales. A pesar de su labor, había algunos nativos que dudaban en abandonar sus costumbres, como, por ejemplo, la poligamia. Esto trajo como consecuencia levantamientos en contra de los misioneros y desató violencia.

Santiago's missionary character is marked by several historical events, one of which is the story of Father Lorenzo Carranco Barrientos. Father Lorenzo was a Jesuit missionary from Cholula, Puebla, New Spain, who arrived in the peninsula in 1727 to take over from the Sicilian Father Ignacio María Nápoli in the Mission of Santiago de los Coras. Unfortunately, Father Lorenzo was killed by the Pericúes with arrows after being tied up and dragged through the vicinity, like Jesuit missionary Nicolás Tamaral, who suffered the same fate on October 2, 1734.

Lorenzo Carranco made this mission thrive thanks to his unwavering dedication to evangelizing. Many inhabitants converted to Christianity under his guidance, as he taught them how to build homes, farm the land, and domesticate animals. Despite his success, there were still some natives who were hesitant to relinquish their customs like polygamy. This instability resulted in uprisings against the missionaries.

A 300 años de la fundación de Santiago de los Coras

La cruz personal del jesuita Lorenzo Carranco, a pesar de ser de madera, sobrevivió a la hoguera y fue enviada a sus familiares a Cholula, ellos por generaciones la han custodiado. En la sacristía de la iglesia parroquial de San Pedro Cholula se encuentra ahora un cuadro en memoria de su legado.

Con esta historia detrás, los parientes de Lorenzo Carranco viajaron desde Cholula, Puebla hasta Santiago, Baja California Sur, para recopilar más información sobre vida y obra del misionero, de esta manera, iniciar una investigación que documente las virtudes que sean admitidas para el proceso de beatificación. Su compromiso por preservar es inspirador, habla del sincero amor y respeto por el legado de la familia Carranco.

300th Anniversary of the Founding of Santiago de los Coras

Despite being made of wood, the father's cross survived the bonfire. It was later sent to his relatives in Cholula, who have kept it for generations and remain with them today. A painting now stands in the sacristy of the parish church of San Pedro Cholula in memory of his murder.

It is heartwarming to hear that the loved ones of Father Lorenzo Carranco have set out on a journey from Cholula, Puebla, to Santiago, Baja California Sur, with such unwavering dedication to gathering information for his beatification. Their commitment is inspiring and speaks to their sincere love and respect for Father Carranco.

The State System for the Integral Development of the Family (DIF) aims to promote the integration and development of individuals, families, and communities in Los Cabos. This objective is achieved through policies, strategies, and actions that prioritize preventing risk factors and providing essential support to families in need.

The Honorary President of SMDIF Los Cabos, Flora Aguilar de Leggs, supports family projects and events for the benefit of the community to continue offering a better service to the city of Los Cabos.

• El Programa de Atención y Prevención a Menores y Adolescentes en Riesgo (PAMAR) es un programa integral que tiene como objetivo apoyar a los menores de bajos ingresos en situación de riesgo. El programa brinda una gama de servicios, que incluyen talleres y charlas que se enfocan en educar a estos menores sobre sus derechos, buen trato, prevención de la violencia, trata de personas y prevención del trabajo infantil. Estos talleres y charlas están diseñados para ser atractivos e informativos, y son impartidos por profesionales experimentados que conocen bien los problemas que enfrentan los menores en riesgo. El programa se compromete a proporcionar un entorno seguro, de apoyo y fortaleza para que todos los participantes desarrollen habilidades y conocimientos necesarios para una buena calidad de vida.

• Tras concluir el X Torneo de Pesca Orsan, el área de Discapacidad del Sistema Municipal DIF Los Cabos, recibió un cheque simbólico con el donativo de 20 sillas de ruedas para beneficiar a la población.

• The Attention and Prevention Program for Minors and Adolescents at Risk (PAMAR) is a comprehensive program that aims to support low-income minors who are at risk. The program provides a range of services, including workshops and talks that focus on educating these minors about their rights, good treatment, violence prevention, human trafficking, and child labor prevention. These workshops and talks are designed to be engaging and informative, and they are delivered by experienced professionals who are well-versed in the issues facing at-risk minors. The program is committed to providing a safe, supportive, and empowering environment for all participants so that they can develop the skills and knowledge they need to succeed and thrive.

• Following the conclusion of the 10th Orsan Fishing Tournament, the Disability area of the Municipal System DIF Los Cabos received a symbolic check. The check included a donation of 20 wheelchairs that will benefit the population of Los Cabos.

• The Municipal DIF System is a nutrition team that assists the elderly individuals at the San Jose Day Care Center by conducting physical activities based on geriatric exercises. These exercises have been designed to help strengthen bones and muscles, improve the ability to perform daily activities, prevent falls, and, most importantly, increase the likelihood of leading an active and healthy life.

• El personal de nutrición del Sistema Municipal DIF, a través de actividades físicas basadas en ejercicios geriátricos ayudan a los adultos mayores de Casa de Día de San José. Estos ejercicios fortalecen huesos, músculos, mejorar la habilidad para hacer actividades diarias, previenen caídas y principalmente les aumentan la posibilidad de tener una vida activa.

• La coordinación de Prevención y Atención a Menores y Adolescentes en Riesgo (PAMAR), realiza entrega de despensas a madres de familia que se encuentra integradas al padrón de Cabo San Lucas.

• Un desfile de moda llamado "La Choca" se llevó a cabo en beneficio de DIF LOS CABOS. El evento fue organizado para recaudar fondos para Casa Hogar, una organización benéfica que apoya a niños y jóvenes desfavorecidos. Todas las ganancias del evento realizado por AMA Foundation en Tamarindos Mexican Farm to Table apoyarán la misión de la Casa Hogar.

• El programa “DIF en Tu Colonia” es una iniciativa que se acerca a las colonias para la asistencia. Recientemente, más de 100 familias residentes en la colonia "El Rincón de La Playa" en San José del Cabo fueron beneficiarias de este programa. La asistencia incluyó: chequeos médicos, sesiones de consejería y talleres educativos.

Eventos como estos demuestran que la unidad de Los Cabos permea, hasta las causas sociales, recordándonos que un paso, aunque sea pequeño, nos acerca a grandes metas.

• The Coordination of Prevention and Attention to Minors and Adolescents at Risk (PAMAR) delivered groceries to mothers of families (with at-risk minors) integrated into the Cabo San Lucas registry.

• A glamorous and exciting fashion show named "La Choca" took place at the local community center. The event was organized to raise funds for Casa Hogar, a charitable organization that supports underprivileged children and youth in the local community. All the proceeds from the event will support Casa Hogar's mission of providing better education, healthcare, and living conditions for the children and youth it serves.

• The "DIF en Tu Colonia" program is an initiative that provides free assistance to the population. Recently, over 100 families residing in the "El Rincon de La Playa" neighborhood in San José del Cabo were beneficiaries of this program. The assistance provided included various services, such as medical check-ups, counseling sessions, and educational workshops. The program aims to improve the residents' quality of life by addressing their basic needs and helping them overcome challenges.

The unity of Los Cabos shines through in events like this, showing us that even small steps can lead to great goals. Let's keep pushing forward together!
