MEN-TSEE-KHANG CELEBRATES 102 YEARS Dharamsala Men-Tsee-Khang (Sowa-Rigpa) grandly celebrated its 102nd anniversary at the college hall on 28 March 2018. The Chief Guest, Health Kalon Choekyong Wangchuk graced the event with other prominent guests from the Central Tibetan Administration CTA, Indian dignitaries, former officials of CTA, representatives of Tibetan NGOs and the media.

30 or 20 years of service were conferred awards by the Chief Guest. Men-Tsee-Khang launched six books on Tibetan Medicine and a book on the centenary report of Men-Tsee-Khang, Sowa Rigpa Book III. Ahmedabad The Ahmedabad branch clinic and Wellness Center in Gujarat celebrated Men-Tsee-Khang foundation day on 23 March 2018 at Sambhav conference hall. Mr. Manoj Bhai (Sponsor) was the Chief Guest of the event. Dr. Migmar Lhamo, Chief Resident Doctor, briefed the audience with an Introduction to Tibetan Medicine and the development of Ahmedabad branch clinic since its inception. Dr. Sonam Dorjee and Dr. Tenzin Choedon presented lectures on Tibetan Medicine and Astrology. After that, Mr. Manoj Bhai highlighted the effectiveness of Tibetan Medicine and encouraged the audience to take the most benefit from it. Around 10 patients shared their experiences with Tibetan Medicine at the event.
Mr. Tashi Tsering Phuri, Director of Men-Tsee-Khang updated the audience on the activities undertaken by the Institute. He also gave a brief account of MenTsee-Khang’s outreach tours and exchange programme with other universities abroad. Dr. Yeshi Dhonden was felicitated with an award for his relentless service and contribution to Tibetan Medicine. In his speech the Chief Guest applauded the accomplishment of Men-Tsee-Khang for its worldwide recognition in the field of medicine. He mentioned that the initiatives and schemes undertaken by the institute concerning preventive measures were commendable and encouraged the staff of Men-Tsee-Khang to continue with their virtuous work. Ladakh The Men-Tsee-Khang Cultural Centre, Leh, organized the 102nd Founding Anniversary on 30 March 2018. Mr. Karma Tsering delivered the Director’s speech on the charities, preventive measures and other activities initiated by the Institute. The Chief Guest Mr. Dhondup Gyalpo, acting CRO of the TR Sonamling Settlement and Dr. Padma Gyurmat, (Sowa Rigpa Research Unit), spoke on the importance of Sowa-Rigpa and its relevance in the present and future generations as well. The event was covered by the media, and the Director’s speech aired on the Gangri Norbu Programme All India Radio, Leh.

CONFERENCE Delhi The 7th Body, Mind and Life Conference was held from 2-3 April 2018 at the India Habitat Centre in New Delhi on the topic, “Treatment of Mental Disorders.” The event was jointly organized by the Foundation for Universal Responsibility of H. H. the Dalai Lama (FUR) and the Body, Mind and Life Department (BML) of Men-Tsee-Khang. A speaker each from the perspectives of Buddhist Psychology, Western Medical Science, Tibetan Medicine, Tibetan Astro-Science, Yoga Therapy, Siddha Medicine, Unani Medicine and Homeopathic Medicine were invited to present and delegate on the given topic. The Chief Guest Dr. Chandrakant Pandav, Former Head of the Community Medicine Department at All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Delhi, shed light on the prevalence of mental disorders in India and the challenges faced by the people suffering from them. Geshe Tenpa Tashi, Head of the BML Department, underlined the need to tackle the issue of mental disorders from different fields of knowledge and develop practical measures of prevention and treatment. Kasur Ngodup Dongchung, Representative at the Tibet Bureau Office of H. H. the Dalai Lama in Delhi honored the speakers and moderators with an event memento. The two-day conference brought together around 163 participants. Dharamsala Second Dialogue between Russian Scientists and Buddhist Scholars was held at Thekchen Chöling, Dharamsala from 3-4 May 2018, in the gracious presence of H. H. the Dalai Lama. Dr. Namdol Lhamo, lecturer of Tibetan Medical and Astro. College gave presentation on ‘Understanding the World’ in the context of the Tibetan medical tradition on the second day of the dialogue. Her presentation covered some of the interesting points discussed on the first day such as conception, fetal developments, concepts of the three principal energies bodily components, physiology of loong (wind) energy, life or vital channels (vessels) and their classifications, brain and nervous system, and prevention of the diseases through adopting wholesome diet and lifestyles. MEDICAL CAMP Ladakh Men-Tsee-Khang Leh organized a medical camp in collaboration with Pegon Phagspa Nastan Bakula Institute on 21 April 2018 at Spituk village, Ladakh. It was organised to celebrate the birth centenary of His Eminence Bakula Rinpoche who had played an important
role in shaping present-day Ladakh, and was also known as an architect of Modern Ladakh. The Men-Tsee-Khang team comprised of a doctor, 2 intern doctors and 5 support staff. The doctors consulted around 90 patients, the majority of whom were senior monks at Spituk monastery, and the villagers. Men-TseeKhang provided free consultations and medicine was sponsored by Pegon Phagspa Nastan Bakula Institute. The programme was aired on the All India Radio Programme. AWARENESS PROGRAMME Mussoorie Mountain Festival Dr. Tenzin Lhanzey, Chief Resident Doctor of the MenTsee-Khang branch clinic in Paonta, was invited to give lectures on Traditional Tibetan medicine at the Mussoorie Mountain festival held from 15-17 March 2018 in collaboration with the Hanifl Centre and Woodstock School.
April-May 2018 Local Assembly, was the Guest of Honor. Dr. Sonam Dekyi, Chief Resident Doctor, spoke on general well-being in accordance with the Four Tantras (gyud shi) of Tibetan Medicine. More than 500 people attended the event, and it was telecast on the local cable by the co-operative society of Choglamsar. Hyper Connected Museum: New Approach, New Public Men-Tsee-Khang participated in a two-day event themed “Hyper Connected Museum: New Approach, New Public” organized by the Department of Information and International Relations Tibet Museum to observe 41st International Museum Day held from 18-19 May 2018 at Tsuglakhang, Dharamsala.
The forum featured speakers from Bhutan, Shimla, Leh, Darjeeling and Kathmandu who spoke on the different arts and living culture of the Himalayas. Dr. Tenzin Lhanzey gave talks on Introduction to Tibetan Medicine, the fundamentals of Tibetan Medicine, and Diagnostics and treatment in Tibetan Medicine to the 300 attendees, followed by a question and answer session. Cultural Festival of Tibet Men-Tsee-Khang participated in a 3-day “Cultural Festival of Tibet,” hosted by the Central Tibetan Administration from 2-4 April 2018 at the India International Center, New Delhi. The event was presided by the Chief Guest Smt. Sheila Dixit, former Chief Minister of Delhi. The festival was part of the 15th Kashag’s yearlong “Thank You India 2018” campaign to mark the 60th year of His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s arrival in India, and express gratitude to the people of India for their hospitality. Men-Tsee-Khang rendered free Health and Oral-Astro consultations, and displayed exhibition on Tibetan Medicine and Astro-Science. The doctors provided 80 health consultations and 50 Oral-Astro Consultations were given by Tibetan Astro-Science Practitioner. World Health Day Men-Tsee-Khang in collaboration with the Primary Health Care Centre, Choglamsar, observed World Health Day on 7 April 2018 at Sonamling Hall, Ladakh. Mr. Dhondup Gyalpo, acting CRO Leh & Jangthang, was the Chief Guest, and Mr. Dhondup Tsering, President of the
Kalon Ven Karma Gelek Yuthok, Department of Religion and Culture, CTA, inaugurated the event with the lighting of the butter lamp. Men-Tsee-Khang team showcased Thangkas (Tibetan scrolls) and other display items used in the treatment of diseases and calculating the zodiac signs in accordance with Tibetan Lunar calendar. The event witnessed more than 200 visitors.

HEALTHY BODY, HEALTHY MIND: CELEBRATING 102 YEARS OF MEN-TSEE-KHANG’S SERVICES” Our Centenary outreach tours to Australia, USA East Coast/Canada, Singapore, Russia, Europe, Taiwan, USA West Coast and South America conducted between March 23, 2016 to March 23, 2017 had been a great success due to the efforts of various support groups. Above all, the encouragements we received and the experiences we gained, contributed to our initiating another world tour. Our tours to various places in India had also been a great success. Our outreach tour to USA West Coast (September 15-October 17), USA East Coast & Canada (October 1-November 6) and Europe (October 5-November 16) in 2017 was a great success. We plan to conduct similar outreach tours (health consultations, oral-astro consultations, lectures/ workshops on Tibetan Medicine & Tibetan Astroscience, exhibition, sale of sorig & health products) every year.
