COURSES/CONFERENCES Sancheong, Korea: International Congress on Traditional Asian Medicine (ICTAM VIII) Dr. Jamyang Dolma, head of Research & Development Department, Men-Tsee-Khang attended the 8th ICTAM (International Congress on Traditional Asian Medicine) hosted by IASTAM (International Association for the Study of Traditional Asian Medicine) held at Sancheong, HRD Center from 9-13 September 2013 in South Korea. The Conference was held along with the ‘World Traditional Medicine Fair

and Festival in Sancheong, Korea 2013’ commemorating the 400th year since the first publication of Donguibogam (Korean Medical Textbook). The conference, entitled “Beyond

Integration: Reflections on Asian Medicines in the 21st Century” featured academics, exhibitions and official tours to the World Traditional Medicine Fair and Festival, Haeinsa Temple and the Korea Institute of Oriental Medicine, KIOM.

The five days conference dealt mainly with the subject of traditional medicine, from Korea, Tibet, China, India etc. through various plenary and concurrent sessions. A clinical demonstration session was also included in the conference. Sowa-Rigpa practitioners and the researchers meeting was also held to establish a “Sowa Rigpa Desk” in IASTAM.

COURSES Dharamsala: Tibetan medicine course in English Men-Tsee-Khang College conducted the 15 days Tibetan medicine course in English from 16 Sept, 2013. 5 Day Basic Course: 16-20 Sept The 5 day basic course started from 16 Sept and there were around 15 interested participants who joined the course. The participants were from European and Asian countries such as Australia, Poland, Ukraine, Japan, Singapore and India. The 5 day course consisted of 20 sessions with topics ranging from a brief history and introduction to the four Tantras (Gyud-shi), diagnostic techniques, treatment measures, lifestyle, classification, health and disease, diet and nutrition in Tibetan medicine, the relationship between Tibetan medicine and Tibetan astrology etc. 10 Day Advanced Course: Sept 16 - 1 Oct, 2013 The 10 day advanced course ran from Men-Tsee-Khang

MEDICAL CAMPS

on the Stages of the Path to Enlightenment (lamrim dudon) & An Overview of Tantra from Tsongkhapa’s Stages of the Path of Mantrayana (ngakrim chenmo chishe) to the Korean group. The medical camp was led by three doctors and 2 astrologers aided by 5 dispensers and accountants. Health care services, acupunture and mild therapies, and oral astrological consultation was provided to a total of around 150 people. Tsuklag Khang: Main Temple (6th-7th Sep, 2013) From 6-7 Sept, a two day medical camp was held during His Holiness teaching to the South East Asian group on Chapter 8-Shantideva’s A Guide to the Bodhisattva’s Way of Life (chodjug). A total of 160 interested people visted the medical camp and received health care service and oral astrology consultation from our doctors and astrologers. The medical camps have brought awareness to the tourists and locals as well as to the people who have come from abroad for His Holiness the Dalai Lama teachings.

Dharamsala Tsuklag Khang: Main Temple (28th-29th Aug, 2013) A two day medical camp was held at Tsuglak Khang during the teachings of His Holiness the Dalai Lama (25-27 August) on Tsongkhapa’s Concise Treatises 2
