INAUGURATION OF THERAPY CENTER Mcleod Ganj, Dharamsala Men-Tsee-Khang inaugurated its Therapy Center at Mcleod Ganj Branch clinic on 22 July, 2013.

The chief guest on that occasion was Dr. Tsering Wangchuk, Health Kalon, CTA. He congratulated MenTsee-Khang for setting up the new therapy center, wished them success in benefitting suffering people through the therapeutic techniques of Tibetan medicine.

This is the first time that Men-TseeKhang has trained and given courses in therapy techniques according to the traditional Tibetan system of health care.

This institute does not encourage the use of mail consultation for those who have access to a Tibetan doctor graduated from Men-Tsee-Khang. Therefore we would recommend patients seek help directly from a properly trained medical doctor who uses the traditional Tibetan diagnostic procedures like reading the patient’s pulse, urine analysis and interrogations.

Owing to numerous suggestions and input received over the years from patients who hold strong trust and belief in our medical system and insist that this system remains the last hope of their recovery, we feel the necessity and responsibility to provide a mail consultation facility to fulfill their wishes. It is very necessary to provide us with the following information: Your name (in capital) Gender Age Clear Address Case History and treatments As and when the above information is received, senior doctors will review the personal case. Thereafter, a reply will be sent to the individual patient informing the recommendations of the physician. The therapy centers will be involved in reviving and preserving the external body therapies according to the Tibetan medical system practiced for thousands of years in Tibet.

The medical camp was led by three doctors and 2 astrologers aided by 5 dispensers and accountants.

Health care services, acupunture and mild therapies, and oral consultation in astrology were provided to a total of around 150 people.

The seminar was co-hosted by the Mongolian Academy of Sciences (MAS), in association with the National University of Mongolia (NUM).

A total of 160 interested people visited the medical camp and received health care service and oral consultations in astrology, from our doctors and astrologers.

The co-sponsors in Mongolia included the Centre of Mongolian Buddhists, the National Library, the National Museum of Mongolian History, the National Archives, and others. The meeting was held in the premises of the National University of Mongolia.

The medical camps have brought awareness to the tourists and locals as well as to the people who came from abroad for His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s teachings.

SEMINARS & CONFERENCES 13th Seminar of the International Association of Tibetan Studies, Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia Men-Tsee-Khang sent Dr. Tenzin Bhaye, deputy head of the Pharmacy department and visiting physician to His Holiness the Dalai Lama to participate in the 13th Seminar of International Association of Tibetan Studies in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia.

The 13th Seminar of International Association of Tibetan Studies (IATS) was held from 21-27 July, 2013.

In the seminar, 17 sub-meetings were held under 45 panels on different topics related to Buddhism, culture, literature, language, education, cultural and political relations between Mongolia and Tibet.

Dr. Tenzin Bhaye gave a presentation on the treatment of physical and mental imbalance according to the traditional Tibetan system of healing and a brief introduction on MenTsee-Khang on 25 July, 2013.

The joint convenors were Dr. S. Chuluum (Institute of History, MAS), Dr. U. Bulag (University of Cambridge), Dr. D. Bum-Ochir (NUM), and Dr. Ulrike Roesler (University of Oxford).

His talk was for a half an hour with a question and answer session. During the conference Dr. Tenzin Bhaye had an open discussions, sharing of experiences, and made clarifications on specific points raised regarding Tibetan medicine.

8th International Congress on Traditional Asian Medicine (ICTAM VIII) in South Korea Dr. Jamyang Dolma, head of the Research & Development Department, Men-TseeKhang attended the 8th ICTAM (International Congress on Traditional Asian Medicine) hosted

by IASTAM (International Association for the Study of Traditional Asian Medicine) held at Sancheong, HRD Center from 9-13 September 2013 in South Korea.

The doctor gave health consultations to around 30 people including professors from the Univeristy of Mongolia.

The

brought together around 600 scholars and researchers on Tibetan studies from over 40 countries.

On the whole the visit to Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia was successful.

Tibetan medicine course in English M e n - Ts e e - K h a n g College conducted the 15 days Tibetan medicine course in English from 16 Sept, 2013.

5 Day Basic Course 16-20 September, 2013 The 5 day basic course started from 16 Sept and there were around 15 interested participants who joined the course. The participants were from European and Asian countries such as Australia, Poland, Ukraine, Japan, Singapore and India.

The 5 day course consisted of 20 sessions with topics ranging from a brief history and introduction to the four Tantras (Gyud-shi), diagnostic techniques, treatment measures,

lifestyle, health and disease, diet and nutrition in Tibetan medicine, the relationship between Tibetan medicine and Tibetan astrology etc.

10 Day Advanced Course: Sept 21 - 1 Oct, 2013 The 10 day advanced course ran from Sept 21 to 1 Oct, 2013, and consisted of 40 sessions. Various topics were covered during the course such as an introduction to Tibetan materia medica, the management and treatment of the three humours, indigestion, cardiac, pulmonary, hepatic, renal, diabetic, and arthritic diseases, cancer and its causes, pulse diagnosis and urine analysis, external therapies etc.

Eight lecturers from Men-TseeKhang college were the resource people during the course.

DIRECTOR’S TOUR

From August 2-9, our Director made a tour of Manali, Jispa and Ladakh to meet and greet our staff, and offer words of encouragement. He was accompanied by Dr. Tsering Norbu, head of Materia Medica Department and Mr. Tenzin Dorjee, director for Special Tasks. They met Mr. Ravi Thakur, sponsor of our Jispa Clinic.

Executive Councilor of the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council, for the land allocation to cultivate medicinal herbs.

Our Ladakh branches convened a meeting of various groups of Amchis/doctors to receive feedback and also to assure continued guidance and support from Men-TseeKhang. Nearly 70 local doctors attended the meeting.

From August 11-14, our Director was in Delhi to meet and greet staff at our 5 branches there. He also met the Secretary, at the Bureau of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, Rabbi Ezekiel Isaac Malekar, and Mr. Jatinder Cheema.

Accompanied by Dr. Sonam Wangmo (R&D staff at Nizammuddin branch), he had a follow-up meeting concerning ongoing collaborations with Dr. Geetha Krishnan, Coordinator of Integrative Medicine at the Medanta Hospital.

Our Director, accompanied by Dr. R.M. Pandey of the All India Institute of Medical Science and Dr. Sonam Wangmo, had a meeting with the Director and concerned senior staff at the Defense Institute for Physiology & Allied Sciences.

From September 17-26, our Director toured Paonta, Dikyiling, Rajpur, Clement Town and Ahmedabad to meet and greet staff at these places and offer words of encouragement. In Dehra Dun, he visited Vana Retreats to meet with the senior officials, and also meet with Men-Tsee-Khang staff there (1 doctor, 2 male and 2 female therapists).

Dr. Tsultrim Kalsang, Deputy Head of our Materia Medica Department accompanied our Director to Ahmedabad, where they thanked the sponsors for many years of support, and discussed expansion projects. Appreciating the work of Men-Tsee-Khang, the sponsors readily agreed to fund Men-Tsee-Khang expansion projects in Ahmedabad.

Our Director and Dr. Tsultrim Kalsang also met with Dr. Mohammed Khalid Siddique at Hamdard University as well as with Mr. Michael Steiner, the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany.
