details on how to develop discipline and self control, traits that are crucial in our walk as Christians and godly women.

H

ello, godly women! I hope and pray that you all are doing fabulous! I know I am. God is good! Yet, I do not say that lightly. Last year was a very hard year for me and so far, this year is going along so much better and I am grateful to God for it. The reason I say that is because I lost some of my faith last year and have been working hard to gain it back. I know I am not alone. Keeping our faith up is not always easy yet it is so worth it. When we lose our faith, we lose so many other things along with it including self-control, a fruit of the spirit. Yet, I refused to give up and quit. Not too long ago, I was able to fast a full day and that is saying a lot because I was not able to do so for a few months due to my faith waning. However, my faith is up and I am so elated about it. I know we all struggle with trust and faith issues because we are human and that is one reason God sent Jesus as a sacrifice for us. Keeping this in mind, that we are only human, should encourage us to never give up on God and his wonderful plan for our lives as Christians and godly women.

In Radiant Vessel, I share with you tips from my book The Godly Woman’s Guide to Inner & Outer Beauty on having pretty hands and feet, to help prepare you for the summer months. Before I go, I would like to ask you to please pray for me and my husband. We are preparing to plant (Lord willing) a church of Christ and an outreach center in the city that I live. Both are greatly needed in our community. We are also accepting donations and seeking volunteers and supporters. So, if you love God and are interested in helping the lost find Jesus, call me. Please contact me and let me know if you have any prayer requests or are in need of biblical counseling. For those who may not know, I offer free (donation supported) Bible-based counseling to women in need via my women’s ministry. All information shared is held in strict confidence. My contact information is on my website at www.thegodlywomansguide.org. May God our holy Father in heaven continue to bless you so that you may always be a blessing wherever you go. I love you! Genuinely,

INSPIRING PROVERBS AND QUOTES All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the [wo]man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work. ~2 Tim. 3:16-17 NKJV God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore will not we fear, though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea. ~Psalm 46:1-3 KJV

And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might. And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart: And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up. And thou shalt bind them for a sign upon thine hand, and they shall be as frontlets between thine eyes. And thou shalt write them upon the posts of thy house, and on thy gates. ~Deuteronomy 6:5-9 KJV

The man replied, “Teacher, you are certainly right to say there is only one God. It is also true that we must love God with all our heart, mind, and strength, and that we must love others as much as we love ourselves. These commandments are more important than all the sacrifices and offerings that we could possibly make. ~Mark 12:32-33 CEV

A LOVELY SPIRIT/INNER BEAUTY

HOW TO DEVELOP DISCIPLINE AND SELF CONTROL Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize. ~1 Cor. 9:24

T

he Webster’s New World Dictionary defines discipline as a branch of learn ing, training that develops self-control, efficiency, etc. Strict control to enforce obedience or self-control. The Oxford American Desk Thesaurus describes discipline as the same as control, restrain, regulate, limit, check, or curb. I personally define discipline as something I do such as Bible study, daily prayer, and worship and I define self-control as something I don’t do such as resisting temptation to curse, gossip, overeat, etc. What good or benefit are we really to ourselves, the church, or the world without discipline or self-control? Yes, we are loved and worthy to God yet a lack of discipline and self control prevents us from fulfilling God’s good and perfect will for our lives and being all he desires of us as Christians and godly women. Self-control is a fruit of the spirit (see Galatians 5:23-24) yet at the same time it is a spiritual gift given to some by God. This is one reason some of us have more self-control or discipline than others.

12

No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it. ~Heb. 12:11 NIV

WHY IS SELF CONTROL AND DISCIPLINE NECESSARY AND VALUABLE? v

To help us to reach our goals such as to lose weight, pass a test, or to study the Bible. v To live a life pleasing to God. v To help us enter the kingdom of God. v It helps us to live righteous and peaceful lives. v So that we are not left defenseless and vulnerable.

Self control and discipline is something I have strived for since committing my life to God. However, not only did it not come easy for me, it is something I always have to work at or maintain. I am sure many of you can say the same. Therefore, I am going to share with you some tips on how to develop these valuable traits. The first step to develop discipline and selfcontrol is to realize why you want it and why it is necessary. (See side bar). The second step is to pray about it. Prayer is really the first step in everything that pertains to our lives, especially spiritual matters. The third step is to read your Bible and study God’s Word with diligence. The fourth step is to learn to control your thoughts. My book The Godly Woman’s Guide to Daily Affirmation’s was created to help you do just that. I sincerely encourage you to get a copy from my web site at thegodlywomansguide.org.

Whoever heeds discipline shows the way to life, but whoever ignores correction leads others astray.~Prov. 10:17 NIV

Apply your heart to discipline And your ears to words of knowledge. ~Prov. 23:12 NASB Basically, and lastly, self-control is obtained by following Jesus’ example and trusting in God then by having the holy spirit inside of us becoming stronger than our flesh. (According to Acts 2:38 we receive a measure of the holy spirit when we are baptized). When our spirit gets stronger, then we will be able to control our flesh. Our spirit, or rather God’s spirit within us, becomes stronger by praying, studying, and listening to the Word of God each day and by abiding by it which becomes easier the more we study, read, pray, and obey the Word of God. In a nutshell, this is how to develop discipline and self-control. TGWG

He says, “I can remember that, you want a bowl of ice cream with strawberries.”

When they arrived at the doctor’s, they explained to the doctor about the problems they were having with their memory. After checking the couple out, the doctor tells them that they were physically okay but might want to start writing things down and make notes to help them remember things. The couple thanked the doctor and left.

She replies, “Well, I also would like whip cream on top. I know you will forget that so you better write it down.” With irritation in his voice, he says, “I don’t need to write that down, I can remember that.” He then fumes into the kitchen. After about 20 minutes he returns from the kitchen and hands her a plate of bacon and eggs.

S

pring and summer is upon us and now is the time of the year where many of us look forward to wearing sandals and showing our feet. Well, just like any other part of our body we want to look our best. Here are some tips on how to keep our hands and feet looking pretty and neat throughout the summer months. v

MANICURE AND PEDICURE

v

ITEMS NEEDED v Curved nail clipper v Nail brush v 4 Way Emery board v Neutral nail polish (optional) v Ped Egg v Nail buffer v Nail file v Natural lotion or oil v Polish remover v Warm sudsy water v

AND

FEET

While in tub, brush nails with a nail brush on top and underneath to get deep down clean. v

Afterward, pat dry especially between toes and nail beds. Now push back cuticles with a wooden board while nail beds are still moist. Clip nails straight across or use a curved nail clipper making sure all nails are even in length. When nails are dry use the 4-way emery board with a file and a buffer. Buff and file each nail until they are smooth and shiny. Wipe off with a towel. After your feet are completely dry, use a Ped Egg to remove calluses and rough skin from the bottoms of your feet and around your toes. (You can find a Ped Egg at most drugstores.) v

PERFORMANCE v First, remove all nail polish from feet and hands. v Start with moist cuticles by soaking your feet and hands in warm soapy water for fifteen to twenty minutes. Or even better, perform while taking a bath or immediately after.

If you like, cover each nail with one to three coats of clear or neutral polish. v

Wait thirty to sixty minutes for polish to dry thoroughly. v

Massage lotion or oil into hands and feet until well absorbed. Let dry. (Or apply before polishing, then wipe nails off with a Q-Tip dipped in polish remover.

HOW TO KEEP YOUR HANDS LOOKING AS YOUNG AS YOUR FACE As we age we want our face to look youthful yet we want the same for our entire body including our hands. Here are some tips to keep them looking youthful. n Wash your hands with the same cleanser you use on your face. n Apply night cream throughout the day and at bed time. n Exfoliate them once a week or when you exfoliate your face. n Let them rest. Try not to overwork them on the computer or when cleaning your home.

MAINTENANCE Perform your mani and pedi weekly or every two weeks, depending on need. v Keep hands and feet moistened by applying lotion or oil daily. v File nails straight across, or curve on ends if desired, if they become jagged. v Each night, or two to three nights a week, massage vitamin E oil or cuticle cream into cuticles. v Apply top coat if polish begins to chip or wear. v

If you go to a salon to get a manicure or pedicure, make sure the technician uses items that are sterilized or bring your own. Otherwise, you’re taking a risk of getting fungus, which can cause you to permanently lose all of your nails. TGWG

NATURAL/HERBAL GOD-GIVEN REMEDIES Fruit trees of all kinds will grow on both banks of the river. Their leaves will not wither, nor will their fruit fail....Their fruit will serve for food and their leaves for healing. ~Ezek. 47:12

PEPPERMINT

P

eppermint is also known as brandy mint, balm mint, curled mint, and lamb mint. It is used medicinally as an aromatic, stimulant, stomachic, carminative, and rubefacient. It is excellent used as a remedy for chills, colic, fevers, dizziness, flatulence, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, cholera, heart trouble, influenza, and other ailments. Applied externally it is good for rheumatism, neuralgia, and headache. Although peppermint is known worldwide particularly as a popular ingredient in tea, toothpaste, and candy, it is not used as much as it should, especially for health reasons. I personally chew on peppermint candy when my stomach is weak and feels nauseated and it helps almost instantly without any negative side-effects. Many people rush to the doctor when they feel nauseated or purchase over the counter remedies that include harmful ingredients including aluminum that is now reported to cause dementia and other ailments. Therefore, it is much wiser to reach for peppermint.

“In 2007, Italian investigators reported that 75% of the patients in their study who took peppermint oil capsules for four weeks had a major reduction in irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) symptoms, compared with just 38% of those who took a placebo. A second study in 2010, conducted in Iran, found similar results. 2011 research showed that peppermint acts through a specific antipain channel called TRPM8 to reduce pain sensing fibres. The authors feel that this study provides information that is potentially the first step in determining a new type of mainstream clinical treatment for Irritable Bowel Syndrome. According to the German Commission E monographs, peppermint oil (as well as peppermint leaf) has been used internally as an antispasmodic (upper gastrointestinal

tract and bile ducts) and to treat irritable bowel syndrome, catarrh of the respiratory tract, and inflammation of the oral mucosa. Externally, peppermint oil has been used for myalgia and neuralgia. ”. ~Wikipedia, the free (on-line) encyclopedia.

W

hen I first became a Christian, I was extremely spiritually weak and my emotions frequently went up and down like a rollercoaster causing much trouble in my life and in my relationships with others. But when I finally got what being a Christian was all about, and learned how to commit my life to God, I started reading God’s Word more intently and began using it to help me stay spiritually and emotionally balanced.

“Do not drink coffee or tea, which are harmful. Coffee weakens the heart muscle. Peppermint tea is delicious and strengthens your heart muscle. Coffee hinders digestion, is a cause of constipation, and poisons the body. Peppermint tea cleanses and strengthens the entire body. Give it a fair trial and see how much better you feel when you leave

One important thing I did was to jot down thoughts from the Bible and to summarize them in a journal. I then would recite them daily to help me stay balanced mentally and spiritually. Not too much later, and since I am a Christian author, God put it on my heart to write a book with these same words of affirmation in them that have dramatically changed my life for the better. Because of this, today I am a godly woman and a devout Christian wholeheartedly devoted to God and I am able to successfully minister to countless women around the world.

off coffee and tea and drink peppermint tea”. ~Excerpted from Back To Eden by Jethro Kloss, page 166.

Today, you can receive a free copy of this book, The Godly Woman’s Guide to Daily Affirmation’s, by making a small donation to my women’s ministry whose mission is to empower women around the world and to help widows and orphans in extreme poverty situations.

Personally, I love drinking coffee, perhaps too much. Yet I know it is not good for overall health. Therefore, I have tapered off and only drink it once or twice a week while the other times I drink peppermint tea. We all do well to do the same.

PLEASE NOTE: Do your own research on herbal medicines and check with your doctor before ceasing or beginning any prescribed or over-the-counter medications, especially if you have any type of health ailment. I am not a medical doctor but I prefer, and utilize herbal medicines after taking care to research them. Also, some herbal medicines may cause the blood sugar level to drop so be careful with them, especially if you have diabetes or low blood sugar. As for those herbals that do cause my blood sugar to drop, I take them sparingly or with food. TGWG

WOMEN OF THE BIBLE Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies. Many daughters have done virtuously, but thou excellest them all. Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the Lord, she shall be praised. ~Prov. 31:10; 29-30 GOMER was a girl with a reputation yet whom God blessed with a faithful husband. We don’t know if she was already a working prostitute or was simply a promiscuous young woman by the time she met Hosea, a prophet. But she was clearly a high risk for a lasting relationship. She must have been surprised and confused when, instead of propositioning her, Hosea arranged to marry her. Hosea loved Gomer. Gomer seemed ambivalent toward her husband. Apparently, marriage simply changed the label on her behavior from promiscuity to adultery. She got pregnant three times giving birth to two sons and a daughter. Hosea couldn’t be sure if the children were his or had been fathered by other men, but he claimed them and named them as God instructed. Sometime after the birth of their third child, Gomer became enslaved in prostitution. Hosea had to literally buy her freedom.

He then insisted on her faithfulness. After Hosea redeemed her, she isn’t mentioned again. Yet her final appearance in the book leads to hopeful silence that she repented. Probably the closest we come to feeling what Gomer felt are those times when we act unfaithfully toward God yet he continues to faithfully lavish his love on us. Gomer’s shameful story turns out to be a thinly veiled version of our story. We know her better than we might think at first, for she was what we are--sinners who are offered overwhelming grace. (Portions excerpted from the Life Application Bible study notes).

STRENGTHS, ACCOMPLISHMENTS, AND LESSONS FROM HER LIFE

• Married to a God-ordained prophet. • May have traded a shameful past for a faithful future as a result of her husband’s sacrificial love. • Unfaithfulness damages our integrity but does not prevent someone else from loving us in spite of our failure. • God’s love commits to us even though he knows our waywardness and bent toward sin. “When the LORD began to speak through Hosea, the LORD said to him, Go marry a promiscuous woman and have children with her, for like an adulterous wife this land is guilty of unfaithfulness to the LORD.” ~Hosea 1:2 NIV TGWG

MOMENT OF FAITH OBEDIENCE VS SACRIFICE Anyone who does not love me will not obey my teaching. These words you hear are not my own; they belong to the Father who sent me. ~John 14:24 NIV

G

od says in his Word, on numerous occasions that he wants obedi ence from us and not only sacrifice.

I was so guilty of this in my past life especially as a new Christian. I used to give money and attend worship service regularly yet I had a hard time obeying God consistently. My life was up and down like a roller coaster. But when I realized God loved me no matter what and wanted the best for me, I was finally able to commit my life to him. Yet I struggled for a very long time, for more than a decade, and it was no picnic! Today, I have learned that it is so much easier to obey God out of love rather than obligation and that is what Father God wants from us more than anything, heartfelt obedience motivated by love. When we do that God showers us with blessings beyond our belief. Is that not what we all truly want? Of course it is. Like any good child, we all want God to love us and to be pleased with us. Although he will always love us no matter what we do, or don’t do, we make God proud of us and are a true blessing to others when we obey him. TGWG

WHAT DOES THE BIBLE SAY: v

Obedience is far better than sacrifice. (1 Samuel 15:22-23) v God doesn’t want burnt offerings; he wants our lifelong service. (Psalm 51:16-19) v God isn’t interested in penance; he wants a broken and contrite heart. It isn’t sacrifices God wants; he desires our obedience and promises that he will be our God and we will be his people. (Jeremiah 7:21-23) v

God doesn’t want sacrifices, he wants our loving loyalty. (Hosea 6:6) v He doesn’t want offerings; he wants us to acknowledge him. (Amos 5:21-24) v God hates pretense and hypocrisy; he wants to see justice. (Micah 6:6-8) v God is not satisfied with offerings; he want us to be fair and just and merciful and to walk humbly with him. v God doesn’t want sacrifices; he wants us to be merciful. (Matthew 9:13)

Eldoret is a ghetto or slum area in Kenya, where over fifty-percent of the population lives far below the poverty line and many of the children die of starvation due to lack of food, and job opportunities, for its citizens.

We are helping and empowering the widows there by providing the women in Eldoret, Kenya with work opportunities so that they can help provide for their children, many of

The more donations we receive the more women can be employed. Photos below are of the women and children living in the slum area of Eldoret, Kenya, most of whom live in shacks and sleep on dirt floors.

T

he US Desk Thesaurus describes temptation similar to lure, pull, or persuade. According to James 1:13, we are going to be tempted and by our own desires. Yet, the good news is that God will not allow us to be tempted beyond what we can bear and even allows a way for us to escape. Isn’t that great news? God is love and loves us, ladies. Like any good father, he only wants the best for us and for us to be happy. When we follow these biblical guidelines we will triumph everytime. “Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him. Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man: But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed. Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death”. ~James 1:12-15 KJV Please Note: I covered this topic on my television show, The Godly Woman’s Guide and go into greater detail in it. PLEASE HELP! Terri Temple, The Godly Woman’s Guide, recently exhibited a booth at the 12th Annual Women’s Life & Style Expo at the Santa Fe Station Hotel in Las Vegas. She was able to offer some Bible counseling and to raise much needed funds for her non-profit ministry. However, we are still in need of financial help to keep this much needed ministry operating. If you are able to make some type of donation, no matter how small, please do so. Many times we expect others to take the lead when they are expecting us to do so, thus the need never gets fulfilled. So please reach out and help us. Your help is greatly needed and appreciated. You may learn more at www.thegodlywomansguide.org
