THE HUNDERT // FOREWORD

MICHAEL MÜLLER © SENATS VERWALT UNG FÜR S TADT EN T WICK LUNG UND UM WELT BER LIN/MARC O URBAN

MICHAEL MÜLLER HAS BEEN GOVERNING MAYOR OF BERLIN SINCE 11 DECEMBER 2014.

The first edition of The Hundert was published in 2013. Since then, Berlin’s startup ecosystem made another huge step forward. Berlin entered the club of the top ten startup cities worldwide. It surpassed London as the most attractive aim in Europe for VCs and had some impressive exits, such as 6Wunderkinder or Octreopharm. Therefore, the title of the sixth edition is not a wish or vision anymore, but is getting real: “Berlin Startups reaching for the Stars”. The startup hub Berlin grows, in size and success. More and more of the young corporates, such as Zalando or Wooga, employ hundreds or thousands of people and create new jobs. Growing startups reinvest in the creative infrastructure and help the next generation of founders and inventors. Last but not least, the innovative founders’ spirit and the creative talent has become one of the most important reasons for established corporates to invest in the German capital. The Senate of Berlin supports this development wherever it is possible. The recently founded Berlin Startup Unit works towards ideal conditions for founders and investors and a better exchange between startups and established corporates. Berlin`s Investment bank obtained more VC for seed financing. On the national level, Berlin is fighting for a better understanding of the startup needs. During my visit to the Part-Time Scientists some time ago, I learned that Berlin could be part of a moon mission, so maybe the next edition’s title has to be “Berlin Startups reached the moon”.

Yours

Michael Müller Governing Mayor of Berlin

DEAR READER, Here we are again! One year and a half after our first issue of “the Hundert – Berlin Startups reaching for the Stars”, we are very proud to present the complete new 2015 edition. Just like last year, we introduce one hundred remarkable Startups from Berlin. This task could not be easier, yet it could not be more difficult. Easy, because the startup scene in Berlin surely is one of the fastest growing ecosystems in the world. It is in the process of overtaking London‘s reputation as the Online- Metropolis of Europe. Statistics show that there is a new startup founded daily in Berlin. Many of them are definitely “reaching for the Stars”! However, that is precisely the difficult part: Once more, we could certainly not choose all those that would have deserved it. As always, we were spoilt for choice. At „the Hundert“, the name speaks for itself!

This leads me to the most important part of this text. You are holding this magazine because Katarzyna Oldziejewska made its accomplishment her personal mission to Mars. She invested her utmost commitment, meticulous care, enthusiasm and passion. Dear Kata, you are our tower of strength and always the warrantor of an awesome creation. Enormous gratitude for this unbelievable, almost superhuman dedication. Many thanks also to the team that supported you in such a fantastic manner: Simona Luhova and Miriam Banerjee. Together, you took care once again that this issue of the Hundert is the best ever produced. Now, enough of the preamble. Curtain up for one hundred fabulous young enterprises in one hundred of Berlin‘s most beautiful places. Enjoy a lot and until next time, Yours, Jan Thomas

This is why we had to choose one hundred exemplary startups among countless recommendations, applications and personal favorites. A colorful bunch resulted from this which represents, in our view, the present generation of startups in Berlin. Of course, the level of innovation is quite varied among these companies. We purposefully did not concentrate upon the tech-scene, since our goal is to be a forum to all innovation sectors. We hope to have achieved this. As always in the Hundert, it must be remarked that the list is not a rating and the sequence of appearance is not a ranking. This time, we wanted something special to stage our startups: Street Photography is the watchword! We wanted to grab Berlin‘s atmosphere and show the world what it is that makes the city so special. Simply the Berlin flair. This is why we took one hundred startups to one hundred different locations, well-known or not. Hence, this issue of the Hundert is a sort of visual declaration of love to one of the world‘s most beautiful metropolis. Simultaneously, this issue is our most comprehensive one. With almost 300 pages, it is the most extensive one to date. It resembles, in a positive way, the telephone book of a mid-sized city. This can give an idea of the amount of work, sweat and passion that went into the production.

PS – If you are wondering how you can support this ambitious project: you can download the magazine for free at: www.the-hundert.com. We would appreciate your feedback and, in particular, your recommendations sent via E-mail, Facebook or Twitter. Make sure to inform your good friends and colleagues. Our kindest thanks in advance!

FIRST WE TAKE BERLIN WHAT SUCCESSFUL ENTREPRENEURS APPRECIATE ABOUT THE CITY AND WHY IT IS THE PERFECT LOCATION FOR THEIR STARTUP

JENS BEGEMANN

JOHANNES RECK

Founder and CEO of Wooga

CEO of GetYourGuide

At Wooga, more than 250 people from over 40 nations develop successful mobile games. Besides our company culture, the fact that we are based in Berlin plays an important role when international talents choose a career at Wooga. Berlin is a very open and creative city with a unique culture scene. This combines with the fact that it is also affordable compared to other cosmopolitan cities, making the Berlin games industry even more attractive to our employees.

There is no other European city where the tech scene is as alive and thriving as in Berlin. Ten years ago, no one would have dared to dream that this city will one day be home to such a big scene of young entrepreneurs. The city is a unique magnet for high calibre international talent, yet very affordable and with a high quality of living. I am very proud to be part of the budding ecosystem that is certainly going to shape Germany and Europe for the decades to come.

IJAD MADISCH Co-founder and CEO of Research Gate

Berlin buzzes with passion, creativity and an almost radical openness: to new ideas, partners and even competitors. Therefore, moving Onefootball from Bochum to Berlin in 2010 was a „nobrainer“. The atmosphere in Berlin is electric, drawing top minds from across the globe and creating an environment where creativity and innovation flourish. It seems that everyone in the city is working on something mindboggling. At Onefootball, we are proud to be part of such a talented community. The dynamics of Berlin inspire us and fuel our passion to build the best mobile football platform in the world.

In Berlin, I appreciate its people most of all. Back in 2010, when we first moved here, the city already had a budding startup scene that attracted talent from all over the globe. Yet, it lacked this one world-changing company to take it to the next level. That was and is a great advantage for us. People moving here are hungry to work on something big. This sets Berlin apart from Silicon Valley. There, many people had been part of successful businesses but had lost their eagerness. Berlin has a lot to offer to make these people stay here. In my case, I like sports, beach volleyball in particular, arts and culture and Berlin is great for that.

LUCAS VON CRANACH Founder and CEO of Onefootball

ALEXANDER KUDLICH

ROBERT GENTZ

Member of the Rocket Internet SE Board and Group Managing Director

Founder and Member of the Zalando Management Board As one of the most vibrant cities in Europe, Berlin attracts people from all over the world. Opening our business in Berlin was a highly strategic decision and, to be honest, one of the best my co-founder David Schneider and I made when establishing Zalando in 2008. We knew: Only in this unique ecosystem would we be able to find Europe’s most talented people in fashion, marketing and technology. Today, Zalando employs people from over 100 nations and this truly international team is the key to our success.

The constant growth and change in Berlin continually inspires us. When I think about Berlin’s entrepreneurial culture, I see a city that is open to new things, new ideas and new people. We are not wedded to one particular ideal or way of doing things. It is the mindset that gives this city its unique creativity. Berlin is perfect for us because it is the most exciting tech environment in Europe right now. There are so many reasons to base a company in Berlin, but the most important for us is the daily access to such a breadth of knowledge, skills, backgrounds and ideas.

15

LEA-SOPHIE CRAMER Founder and Managing Director of Amorelie

Berlin is a never ending playground! You find inspiration and adventures anywhere you look. The city’s dynamic startup and creative scene attracts talented people from all over the world that come to work here. That is great for us since we cater to men in eight different countries and we always look for new recruits for our very international team. Another incentive is that the standard of living is rather high: Compared to other European capitals, it is still inexpensive; there are plenty of cultural offers and it is the greenest city in Europe.

Berlin is the perfect city to be in for Amorelie: it is open-minded, international and creative. It also has reasonable living expenses, attracts great young talent and is still down to earth. Due to the large number of varied startups, there is easy access to further learning and development through lunch dates, networking events and more. The high density of incubators, VC’s and startups indicate the vibrant and growing entrepreneurial spirit of Berlin.

FLORIAN MEISSNER

JAN BECKERS

Co-founder and CEO of EyeEm

Founder and CEO of Hitfox Group

My co-founders Gen, Ramzi, Lorenz and I always knew Berlin was the perfect place to start our company. We think everything from the creative vibe and supportive and thriving ecosystem, to the talented workers and the great cost of living make Berlin a great choice when it comes to starting a business. Recently, we opened an office in San Francisco and we also spend a lot of time in the UK. However, Berlin is very much our home, and we could not have picked a better starting point for our global community.

There is always a bottleneck that is encountered when building great products and successful companies: Talent. Berlin is the place to attract some of the greatest minds of our generation: smart founders, tech masterminds, experienced entrepreneurs and young talent. It is known that great people attract even more great people. HitFox is receiving over 1000 applications per month. The ecosystem has grown strong over the years, and this is just the beginning. The potential for tech innovation is huge and the city is exciting, always changing and looking out for what comes next.

GARY LIN CEO of glispa

Back in 2007, we founded Babbel in Berlin with just four people. Eight years on, we have an international team of over 350 working on a truly global product from offices in Berlin and New York. We grew up in Berlin. The style, diversity and overall vibe of the place had a huge impact on Babbel, and had we set up anywhere else, I think we’d be a very different company today. We also gained a lot in those early days from an emerging ecosystem of successful startups – both in terms of inspiration and infrastructure. In turn, we hope that the next generation of startups can follow our lead in turning Berlin’s unique climate into real innovation and international success.

Berlin was the perfect city in which to launch glispa, and is still the best place to continue to grow the company. This is a global nexus of highly educated professionals, culture and creativity, so it is not surprising that Berlin is also home to one of Europe’s most dynamic economies. With a much more diverse community than Silicon Valley, Berlin has emerged as a melting pot of international cultures and innovative industries — and these attributes contribute together to the ideal ecosystem for discovering top talent. Today, glispa employs 150 amazing people representing 40 nationalities and speaking 24 languages. Still, we look forward to hiring the best Berlin has to offer as we continue to grow our team.

ERIC WAHLFORSS

CHRISTIAN REBER

Co-founder and CTO of SoundCloud

Founder and CEO of 6Wunderkinder

Berlin is a very creative space with a diverse pool of talent, both in terms of developers as well as in arts and design. We sometimes refer to the general attitude as ‘Punk meets Tech’, to describe the alternative lifestyle feel of ‘going your own way’ that is present in the city. This is one of the elements that make Berlin different from other start-up communities and a perfect location for our company. We are proud to be a part of this infectious air of optimism and determination.

Berlin is perfect in many ways for tech entrepreneurs because of its low costs, high living standards and fantastic infrastructure. If you want to start something in Europe, Berlin is the place to be. The city has gained an impressive reputation over the last 10 years. The community has also greatly matured over the last years, it is very easy to get help from other designers, developers and founders. However, there is still room for growth. I believe Berlin is in its early days while the next 10 years will see big and positive changes in the ecosystem.

ALEXANDER ZACKE Founder and CEO of Auctionata

Berlin is a vibrant and dynamic city, enticing talented international people from around the globe to embark here upon a new career journey. At Delivery Hero, we pride ourselves in being a multicultural workforce with employees from over 53 different nationalities and more than 20 different languages spoken. We employ people from different cultures, perspectives and approaches to shape our business and help lead our mission of: ‘the easiest way to your favorite food’. This makes us special and a success to this day. The creative and lively spirit of Berlin, rich in culture and continuously transforming are also qualities that inspire and shape the spirit of our company.

The spirit of Berlin and its start-up environment are extraordinary. No other European city attracts more creative, smart and energetic people – the most important resource for a successful start-up. Moreover, the art scene in Berlin is dynamic, diverse and there is everything from antiques to young, contemporary artists. This variety allows you to make the right contacts and serves as an inspiration for Auctionata as an organization. We are more than happy that we decided to pick Berlin as a location for our company. Without Berlin, Auctionata would not be the same.

NIKLAS ÖSTBERG Co-founder and CEO of Delivery Hero

THEN ...

FLORIAN HEINEMANN Co-founder and CEO of Project A Ventures The Berlin startup ecosystem is constantly growing. First, the city still attracts ever more talented and creative people from all over the world. The same is true for (new) startups and investors from other ecosystems. The whole startup industry is becoming increasingly interconnected, especially in Europe. In addition, the costs for operating a company remain at a very competitive level. Finally, there is a growing interest on the part of the government and the Old Economy on the digitalization and startups trend. This might further improve the current situation of Berlin as one of Europe’s digital industry “hot spots”. For us as an early-stage investor and company builder, it is important to be an integral of this ecosystem and to provide our startups with the best platform to develop into sustainably successful businesses. 18

MAKERS A COMMUNITY OF PEOPLE THAT ENJOY BUILDING STARTUPS

Makers is one of Berlin‘s most active company builders. Founded in 2013 by serial-entrepreneurs Friedrich A. Neuman and Marius Schulze, Makers has already tested 42 ideas and started 8 companies including IconPeak, Cashboard and Run a Shop which count more than 80 employees and have generated revenue of 37 million during the first two years. When asked about the secret of their success, Neuman or Schulze will certainly emphasize two things: acting as a community and their methodical, iterative way of building companies. Makers understands itself as a community of founders, experts and investors that are hands-on and love to share best practices, invest in a vision, sketch ideas, work on product strategy and fight for customer traction. Founders benefit not only from seed capital, but also get access to startup incorporation and accounting, office space, press relations, online marketing and product designs. WWW.MAKERS.DO

APP

Applanga automates all steps of app localization. It was founded in 2014 by Christian Stanke and Steffen Rรถmer who have been working together in leading positions at several mobile app, gaming, payment and marketing startups. They managed to secure funding from Axel Springer and HTGF. Contrary to the outdated and often messy file-based approach commonly used in software translation, Applanga offers automated text extraction, on-device testing and over-theair updates paired with powerful online editing features. The platform enables even basic users to manage, test, and fix localizations in live apps. This drastically improves app quality while reducing time to market as well as developer and QA time spent on otherwise manual and repetitive tasks. Today, it is already in use by known developers and game publishers. Applanga is currently expanding its reach by adding more customers and platforms to become the go-to solution for modern app localization. WWW.APPLANGA.COM

FOREVERLY ONLINE MARKETPLACE AND SERVICES OFFERS FOR BRIDES-TO-BE

Launched in March 2015 by Jen Browarczyk, Foreverly has grown to display the products and services of over 1,000 vendors and seen over 70,000 brides enter its searchable pages every month. Although wedding-planning can be an enormous headache, brides can now blissfully browse through more than 1,000 relevant and vetted options about wedding trends and tips. They can also get support from a surprisingly active brideto-be community. Couples search by cities and easily turn inspiration into reality, finding and securing the local suppliers best suited to their tastes, price level, and whim. A fun fact: Did you know that in Germany, over 1,000 people get married per day! With each couple spending an average of € 15,000 on “the best day of their lives”, that amounts to over € 15 mil generated daily in Germany by the wedding industry alone. Foreverly operates in the DACH region – giving brides (and their better halves) access to everything they need for that perfect day, in one simple place. WWW.FOREVERLY.DE

THE STARTUP ENGINE IN BERLIN IS REVVING UP – WITH THE BEST OF BOTH WORLDS AT THE FOREFRONT OF EUROPE The startup scene in Berlin is pulsating. The capital’s startup motor is energizing Berlin with more and more momentum every day. Berlin or London? This is the question insiders, observers and investors are all asking. Both startup cities in Europe are running a tough head-to-head race, and for the first time Berlin is ahead in investments: according to an analysis by the industry service Dow Jones VentureSource for Die Welt, Berlin has collected significantly more venture capital than London in the last year with $2.2 billion. The British competitors only reached $1.5 billion. “Berlin is already a leading location of the digital economy in Germany and Europe with a booming startup scene, innovative medium-sized companies and internationally established players. The number of ICT companies and employees in the IT sector has allowed the State of Berlin to take a dominant position in Germany,“ said Cornelia Yzer, Senator for Economics, Technology and Research. This greatly benefits the business location of Berlin as a whole: growth is above the national average, employment figures are rising and about 40,000 people come from outside the city every year.

The Berlin toolbox offers young entrepreneurs everything they need to successfully establish their business: the necessary startup capital, an exemplary research landscape and experienced entrepreneurs who are open to partnerships. “The best part of two worlds comes together in Berlin: both new and established industries and creative founders with digital expertise. This mixture attracts companies from around the world to the German capital,” says Dr. Stefan Franzke, CEO of Berlin Partner for Business and Technology. The fact that the success stories of the Berlin founders cannot be told in a few quick sentences is demonstrated by the initial public offerings (IPO) of startup stars Zalando and Rocket Internet. They have shown how Berlin startups can forge their way to the top. The topic of “startups and founding a company” is one of the top priorities on the political agenda: the climate in the capital region is very positive for startups. The Senate Department for Economics, Technology and Research optimizes the general framework for entrepreneurial activity, develops strategies, and provides numerous types of support for funding, networking, collaboration, marketing and internationalization. Berlin Partner for Business and Technology supports successful inward investment in the c apital region, consults new companies on a range of subjects including applications for funding, recruiting talent and finding suitable real estate. The Berlin Partner network also provides outstanding opportunities for networking among startups, established local companies, businesses and policy makers. The state of Berlin initiated the Berlin Startup-Unit together with partners from business, science and the startup scene. The unit is based in the premises of Berlin Partner for Business and Technology. Its members are from local and national politics, business support agencies, science, associations and company founders. The Berlin Startup-Unit’s mission is to develop and implement startup initiatives and projects as partnerships with all of the players involved. IT DOES NOT WORK WITHOUT A VENTURE NETWORK By Eric Leupold and Stefan Leisner, Issuer and Primary Market Relations, Deutsche Börse AG It is still quiet when Matthias enters the office in Wildau at 8 a.m. Just like every day, he checks the marketing activities from the day before, reviews statistics and tries to find ways to further improve performance. Besides the daily call with his partner in Asia, the teams of “brillen.de” will give their updates today. Matthias is involved in all business areas – a crucial factor for every startup company. In 2012, he and his partner Daniel founded “brillen.de”, a company that sells glasses online in cooperation with local opticians. The company is performing well and growing fast. Therefore, cash flows need to be maintained. “Until now, we were able to finance our business with the help of family and friends. But who knows how long that will be enough in view of the growth rate we are seeing? When we heard about this interesting network, it was clear to us that we needed to be part of it from the get-go,” Matthias explains.

and São Paulo, among others. Matthias Kamppeter is CEO at brillen.de. Both e.ventures and brillen.de are part of Deutsche Börse Venture Network, an initiative that was launched in June this year by the exchange organization and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (Bundesministerium für Wirtschaft und Energie). It is a program designed to help finance young and qualified growth companies from various sectors by offering them a platform to get together with international investors. All participants bring their individual expertise, opinion and connection to promote solutions and transactions. With its Venture Network, Deutsche Börse AG created a comprehensive ecosystem. Deutsche Börse Venture Network encompasses an exclusive online platform to facilitate financing rounds as well as various networking and training events. In summary, it provides improvement for growth companies when it comes to financing possibilities.

Christian has spent the morning negotiating an investment with the team of a young startup company and after a short lunch break, he has half a dozen calls ahead of him with several US investors from both coasts. It is crunch time in the next financing round of a very promising startup company from Berlin and together with its CEO he is trying to build a strong investor syndicate. “When financing rounds pick up in size, we reach our limits here in Germany because there is not enough venture capital to finance and encourage all the good ideas. That is why we like to look for co-investors outside the country when it comes to bigger financing rounds. In this regard, the network enables fast and easy communication between the company that needs financing and the potential investor,” Christian says.

The first “Investor Talks”, an initial encounter between the members of the program, already took place on 16 June in Frankfurt/ Main. Companies and investors were invited to meet face-to-face in pitch presentations and one-on-one meetings. David Blyghton from Highland Europe summarized the event as follows: “The inaugural ‘Investor Talks’ workshop provided a unique platform for growth investors like us to engage with an exciting selection of innovative entrepreneurs seeking expansion capital. Participating in the high-quality presentations and actively engaging in the one-on-one networking sessions introduced us to a number of interesting investment opportunities. Highland Europe is proud to be a launch partner of Deutsche Börse Venture Network.”

“There will soon be over 4 billion smartphone users worldwide. How can we leverage this vast potential to get better and faster insights on consumer trends and public opinion?" This was the question that inspired Nico Jaspers and Fernando Guillen to found Dalia Research in October 2013. Today, Dalia distributes hundreds of thousands of micro surveys across a vast network of mobile publishers in more than 80 countries and collects millions of answers per day. The platform is used by some of the world’s leading market research agencies, technology consultancies and universities to better understand future trends in mobile shopping: what Europeans think about the Euro-Crisis or how diabetes is spreading across China. Dalia recently won the prestigious IIeX Europe Award for the "most innovative startup" in the market research and consumer insights space. It aims to become the leading source for real-time infomation on market and opinion trends across the world. WWW.DALIARESEARCH.COM

THE MARKETPLACE FOR STARTUP-FRIENDLY OFFICE SPACE IN BERLIN

80

Startups in various stages need office space – let it be after the establishment of the company or after a round of growth funding. Most of the time, they need office space fast and without bureaucracy. In tough times, startups need to get rid of their office space quickly as well to keep the burn low and not spend their last cash on a 3-year office lease. BerlinStartupOffices is the marketplace that makes it easy for startups and small companies to either quickly find subtenants or to pass on their office lease to another startup. BerlinStartupOffices started small and established itself in a niche market in Berlin. The project was started by Florian Purchess and Daniel Frese in March 2015. Flo and Daniel met back when they were two of the four co-founders of Dreamflat, which sold to Immowelt. This fall, the team plans to enter new market segments with BerlinStartupOffices as well as new cities in Europe, specifically Munich, Hamburg and London. It may be that they need then a new name.

MEMORABLE UNDERWEAR FOR MEN

GET AMBER

THE HUNDERT // FASHION

Get Amber is a Berlin-based men’s underwear label founded in February 2015 by Marius Stäcker and Gennadi Tschernow. The company launched their first undergarments collection in June 2015 and is planning to add further products within the course of the year. Shopping for their own underwear has long been regarded as a chore by most men – an arduous act of necessity and one begrudgingly carried out several times a year. Get Amber believes that shopping for underwear should provide men with as much pleasure as women get shopping for theirs. This belief led the two founders to create a new and exciting brand dedicated to providing their customers with premium undergarments in eye-catching designs, modelled by equally eye-catching women. Made from materials of the utmost quality at an affordable, yet exclusive price, their aim is to awaken a sleepy industry and provide their customers with the perfect underwear for any situation. MYNIGMA SAFE E-MAIL MADE SIMPLE

Mynigma is the self-proclaimed future of e-mail encryption. The project began in 2012, long before the NSA revelations brought IT security to the forefront of attention. Its purpose has always been straightforward: simple e-mail encryption that anybody can use. Out of frustration with existing software like PGP, the three mathematicians Dr. Roman Priebe, Lukas Neumann and Dr. Marco Schreiber created a program that does not interfere with the normal workflow and still offers a very high degree of security. By making the app 'M' free for personal use, the team aims to stem the tide of total digital surveillance. This year, Mynigma received the CeBIT Innovation Award for its groundbreaking combination of usability with end-to-end security. Buoyed by this success, the team is rapidly expanding its sphere of influence from a Mac and iOS app to an Outlook add-in and upcoming releases of an Android app and a Thunderbird add-on. A B2B solution is also being developed in partnership with SAP. WWW.MYNIGMA.ORG

Digitization has changed today’s customers shopping behavior. While the total turnover in the retail sector is stagnating, online trade is growing. Locafox wants to preserve the diversity in inner cities by helping stationary retailers to connect their business to the Internet successfully. Through a link to the respective merchandise management system, Locafox displays the assortment, product descriptions, prices, and the current availability of products in the local retail sector. Customers can get online information, reserve items and buy from a shop around the corner. The subsequent store visit provides an opportunity to test and receive professional consulting. Locafox was founded in June 2013 by Karl Josef Seilern (CEO), Michael Wendt, Lukas Zels, Rob Morgan, and Fabian Friede and is supported by Holtzbrinck Ventures, Payback founder Alexander Rittweger, entrepreneur Dr. Max Iann, and the German Printing and Publishers Society ddvg. SHAPING THE BANK OF TOMORROW TOGETHER IN DEUTSCHE BANK‘S CUSTOMER LAB, JULIANE HÄNTSCH, HEAD OF THE BUSINESS CLIENTS TEAM IN Q110 AND LUCAS VON CRANACH, FOUNDER OF ONEFOOTBALL, DISCUSSED HOW BEST TO IDENTIFY AND RESPOND TO CLIENT NEEDS. Lucas von Cranach was rather surprised when he entered Q110 in Friedrichstrasse. Even though the founder of Onefootball goes into his branch on a fairly regular basis, this was the first time he had seen the Customer Lab, which opened to Q110 visitors in May. „I think it‘s great that there‘s always something new to discover here,“ he said. „It‘s really refreshing and it also encourages clients to explore the bank‘s products and services.“ Indeed, the 38-year entrepreneur had already touched upon the topic that Business Client Advisor Juliane Häntsch wanted to discuss with him that day: market research and client needs. For Deutsche Bank, the Customer Lab has an important role to play here. Juliane Häntsch: The aim of the Customer Lab is to help us discover how our clients imagine the bank of the future so that we can align our portfolio accordingly. With this in mind, everyone who comes into Q110 is approached by a member of staff, who shows them around the branch and introduces them to the newest products. All feedback, whether it is praise, criticism or suggestions for new services, is then passed on internally, allowing us to continuously improve our products and services. We also invite clients to different workshops and use their input to help develop new approaches in banking. Lucas von Cranach: As I see it, the Customer Lab concept is not just innovative, it is also really important. It is time for banks to start focusing on the needs of their customers. Any business that just concentrates on its existing customer base will fail to attract the customers of tomorrow. That is why it is important that the

bank ask itself, „How do we actually want to shape our business in the future?“ Häntsch: That is exactly what Deutsche Bank is doing, and not just since the Customer Lab was created. Innovation has long had a priority place in our client business, especially here in Q110, where we have been experimenting and testing different models for a number of years. Some of these find their way into other branches while others are abandoned. We do a lot of testing, which allows us to continuously develop our products and services. The Customer Lab gives us the opportunity to engage in a more in-depth exchange with our clients. Von Cranach: The key to any good user experience is, above all, to make it self-explanatory and ensure it provides added value to the user. Obviously, you have to know your customers and their needs. At Onefootball, we analyze the usage data of our app very closely. When does the customer access which service and how much time does he spend on it? We call this data-informed product development. You have to be informed about user behavior, to analyze it and then make decisions. New features are the result of a combination of strategy and vision. Our new features are tested on 10,000 users. If they prove successful, they are introduced across the board for all users, but it we do not see the desired effect, we discard the feature. Startups need a strong partner to lighten their load so that they can focus on their product. The Startups@Berlin Team, to which

Juliane Häntsch belongs, was set up by Deutsche Bank precisely for this purpose. How does the team approach this task? Häntsch: We aim to make the processes as simple as possible for startups. Time is a key issue. Our experience has taught us that rapidly growing businesses need swift assistance when they approach us. Startups need to be able to work right away with the solutions we provide. Therefore, we try to make solutions available smoothly and in a non-bureaucratic manner. Von Cranach: Obviously as a startup, I have a range of different needs. I might have a question about property one day, and then a question about overseas accounts the next. It is good if you do not have to start from scratch every time, if you are already in touch with your next contact. Thanks to the Startup Team, that works really well at Deutsche Bank. However, it also means that the startup has to be transparent for its bank. For example, we have several US investors and the bank advised us to set up a dollar account

to reduce our costs. You can only achieve these types of things in a timely manner when you see the bank as your partner and get them involved in the process. Häntsch: Both sides need to be on the same wavelength. The challenges of working with startups are very different from those of the old economy. That is what is so exciting about the Startup Team: it is about finding solutions to accompany startups in the best possible way as they move into the future, even if it means departing from tried and trusted paths. Von Cranach: That has certainly been my experience. If something is not functioning at a certain level, then it is taken up a level or two so that a decision can be reached. Häntsch: If there is one thing we have learned from working with startups, it is that nothing is impossible.

CUSTOMER LAB Deutsche Bank learns from its customers: since May, when it opened its Customer Lab in Q110 in Berlin, the bank has been setting a new tone in market research. Here, in close liaison with its clients, Deutsche Bank is developing the branch and advisory service of the future. Clients are invited to try out a selection of digital services in the Customer Lab when they come into the branch. Their feedback, complemented by traditional market research formats, such as focus group surveys, helps the bank to optimize its portfolio of products and services. Startup services Startups are invited to use the rooms in the Customer Lab for meetings and presentations. For more confidential meetings, Deutsche Bank offers separate conference rooms. Sellers should get their house in order as soon as possible. That is easier said than done, in particular for startups with their limited resources and notoriously empty pockets. On the other hand, a few simple steps and the application of common sense serve a low budget alternative: How do I organize our contract management? Where do I save which documents? Where do I keep original documents? Have all intellectual property (IP) and information technology (IT) related documents, which I have signed and sent, been returned to me? Do I have all notarized documents electronically and as certified copies at hand? Do agreements which are material to my business contain clauses relating to an acquisition or,

in particular, do they negatively affect such an acquisition? When was the last time I looked at our terms of service? SINCE THE MAIN FOCUS OF A BUYER IN A DIGITAL ACQUISITION SEEMS TO BE ON THE IP AND IT OF THE SELLER, WHAT ARE YOUR RECOMMENDATIONS IN THAT RESPECT? As far as IP or software have been developed in-house, the seller must ensure at all times that the company is entitled to all such relevant rights. The IP/software status should be established at regular intervals: Did all individuals participating in the development transfer their respective rights to the seller? Did the founders transfer all their respective rights when the company was established? In the case of external development and other forms of outsourcing, written agreements with such providers of services or with freelancers are required. Open source software adds some complexity: Do I have a detailed documentation of relevant open source components? Do I utilize such components in accordance with the relevant license terms? May I be forced to publish our entire source code, if we are in breach of the relevant open source license term?

Tim Maiorino and Christian Musfeldt, both with Osborne Clarke in Cologne and Berlin, Germany, had a chat with us on investments in the digital sector. They see an increasing activity both from national and international buyers and told us, how sellers do things right.

PAULCAMPER PRIVATE CAMPER SHARING IN THE MOST AUTHENTIC AND PERSONAL WAY

PaulCamper is a private carsharing for motor homes and campervans. Increasing amounts of people want to travel independently with a motor home but find commercial motor home rentals expensive, non-transparent and impersonal. They are also fully booked during the summer. On the other hand, there are many privately-owned motor homes which often remain unused. PaulCamper solves these problems by connecting users and owners, offering a tailored infrastructure which includes insurance, community relations and advice. Their profession excels by offering a personal, secure and transparent service. The company was founded in 2013 by passionate and CEO Dirk Fehse. He started the platform out of nothing by renting out his very own campervan. Since then PaulCamper has become the market leader with a sizable customer base generating real revenues. As the demand for campervans outweighs supply by far, the company is now looking for investors to support further growth.

More and more strategy consultants and industry experts choose to work as freelancers, on their own terms. However, there is not much transparency in this top class freelancer market and companies do not know how to find the perfect match for their projects. Comatch helps: The platform is a marketplace to find a top consultant or an entire team. Currently there are about 400 consultants in the Comatch pool, covering various fields of expertise. Most of them worked for the big top tier consultancies, all were individually interviewed to pick only the best ones. The founders Jan Schächtele and Christoph Hardt are former consultants themselves and know the business. Consultants benefit from a comfortable, cost-free way to acquire new projects, companies quickly find support – the lean startup structures guarantee financial advantage for both sides. The idea works: The consultant pool grows faster than expected, the clients are numerous and happy. The Dutch and Swedish markets will be the next to explore. WWW.COMATCH.COM

ShareTheMeal enables people to „share their meals“ with children in need. Each donation of 40 cents makes it possible to feed 1 child for 1 full day. The meals are distributed by the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP). Sebastian Stricker and Bernhard Kowatsch founded ShareTheMeal as a startup. A number of voluntary supporters were essential to the further development of ShareTheMeal. The starting point for ShareTheMeal is that it is actually very „cheap“ to feed 1 child (who would otherwise not have enough to eat) for 1 full day. The founders believe even more people would be willing to help and donate if there were a simple and straightforward way of doing so. ShareTheMeal is now an innovation project within WFP. Thousands of video clips are being produced daily. Most of these clips are soon forgotten. It would be exciting to give them a new purpose – a new dimension. For this reason, Fabian Wolfart, Axel Braun and Semir Chouaibi founded ClipDuell in the end 2014. ClipDuell combines video content with the mechanic of a quiz game, which transforms a passive medium into an active channel. The first product is a free app based on the idea of guessing commercials. Two players compete against each other and whoever guesses the clip first, wins the round. ClipDuell is particularly interesting for advertisers because through the game advertising is not perceived as a nuisance and can be played at a defined target group. Extensive analysis data provide information on the advert’s efficiency, regardless of the completion rates. In addition, new forms of advertising, such as branded video can be embedded and different versions of clips can be tested on their suitability for the market, before releasing. WWW.CLIPDUELL.DE

BUILDING BERLIN’S FUTURE Berlin is one of Europe’s most successful and well-known cities for startups. The city boasts big names such as Zalando, Rocket Internet, Soundcloud, Researchgate, EyeEm and Delivery Hero. It is a hive buzzing with the entrepreneurial spirit of an entire generation, while the affordable cost of living, the city’s young atmosphere, and the free-thinking mindset attract countless entrepreneurs and founders from both Germany and abroad. They are driving progress and giving Berlin remarkable social and economic momentum.

We at KPMG are proud to take part in this process in Berlin and are excited by its incredible potential. This is what makes us exactly the right partner to put all these great ideas into action. Our Smart Start team has been supporting startups through every stage of their company for years –the foundation, rounds of funding and right up to a possible IPO. We have been active in this scene for a long time and consider ourselves a vital part of the startup ecosystem. A strategic cooperation with the hy! platform for founders and business networking ensures that we stay abreast of the latest trends and are able to seize opportunities for innovation as they present themselves, working both for and with our customers. CONNECT WITH OUR STARTUP EXPERT Frank Wiethoff Regional Head East KPMG AG Wirtschaftsprüfungsgesellschaft Klingelhöferstrasse 18 10785 Berlin Direct +49 30 2068-4800 Fax +49 30 2068-4619 Mobile +49 173 5764848 fwiethoff@kpmg.com

The Berlin startup scene has an impressive track record. Industry analysts at Dow Jones VentureSource recently carried out a study for ‘Die Welt’ which revealed that venture capitalists invested a total of $US 2.2 bn in Berlin in 2014. According to this study, Berlin has now overtaken London, which itself saw $US 1.5 bn of investments in 2014. The question now is how do we go about systematically ensuring the city’s continued success in the future? We believe three things are needed: 1.  SET AMBITIOUS GOALS Where does Berlin want to be in 2020? There needs to be broad cooperation between the various players in the city. Startups, political actors, associations, traditional companies, investors, universities and research institutes must work together much more closely to create a unified whole – a fertile environment for innovation and success. 2.  STRONG LINKS MUST BE FORMED BETWEEN BERLIN’S GROWTH CLUSTERS AND LEADING EXPERTS We need to promote cross-sector synergies. We must create the structures to connect innovators in growth areas such as fintechand e-health to specialized experts and collaboration partners that will help them succeed. 3.  WE MUST CONFIDENTLY SHARE THE CITY’S SUCCESS STORIES We must beat the drums louder. We must find followers. We need more real entrepreneurs who are committed to the future of our city, because we know it is so very deserving. Berlin already has all the ingredients it needs to cook up one outstanding future.

The Lockbox idea took shape in 2013 in Berlin, when Thomas had rushed home once again in order to receive a delivery in person. Waiting for the delivery guy to show up, he thought of a better way: Why not simply lock deliveries to the doorstep? With this idea in mind and a basic concept, he and Daniel started developing the Lockbox system. The company was founded in May 2013, the first test deliveries took place in April 2014. The logistics startup received seed funding in November 2014 from the High-Tech-GrĂźnderfonds. The system is now patented, Lockbox has made more than 2500 deliveries and the company is operational in 5 cities in Germany. Looking ahead, Lockbox is planning to expand its service Germany-wide to all major cities in 2016. In order to do so, the startup is currently working on closing a seriesA funding round.

KLAUS SIEGERS CEO AT WEBERBANK, A BERLIN-BASED PRIVATE BANK OFFERING A BROAD RANGE OF FINANCIAL SERVICES FOR SUCCESSFUL ENTREPRENEURS. As a Berlin-based private bank, Weberbank has a basic interest in the prosperity of the city. It has always seen itself as a partner to entrepreneurs in the German capital. Weberbank specializes in asset management and investment consulting and has a particular focus on the individual needs and requirements of entrepreneurs. This is a crucial point since the circumstances which result from owning a company or being a partner in a company must be considered when allocating and managing assets. The bank is primarily focused on the financial objectives of entrepreneurs in their private sphere. Only those who have made robust private plans and obtained the corresponding level of security can act freely in the world of business, equipped to face all possible risks. It is necessary to consider many individual facts, from the amount of available resources to general stage of life, family background, career plans and so on. After all, those who dare do not always win. There are varying factors that connect the private and professional spheres. Therefore, tailored solutions are important and will always provide the best results for clients. Keywords in this context include, for example, the legal form of the company, a testament or will and powers of attorney to exercise ownership rights in case of illness. Weberbank offers

support and advice in a wide range of these and many other important fields. In addition, the individual relationship between Weberbank client advisers and entrepreneurs is essential because the necessary level of trust can only exist between people who understand each other. As a result, banking relationships take on a special significance for professional cooperation: On the one hand, there is greater willingness of entrepreneurs to engage in various investment instruments in principle, which often entails a deeper pool of experience. On the other hand, entrepreneurs are accustomed to making their own decisions and are careful to select relationships only with people they can trust. The team at Weberbank acknowledges this and always considers the personal preferences of clients to achieve an optimal fit when selecting a client adviser.

Best regards,

Klaus Siegers

FAIRR RETIREMENT SAVINGS SOLUTIONS FOR THE MODERN CUSTOMER

Built around 1845 parallel to the Spree as a transport path, the 11km long Landwehrkanal now meanders as a green band through a populous urban space, constituting one of Berlin’s most precious local recreational areas. The historyfilled waterway flows under many bridges, including the Dovebrücke.

fairr.de offers innovative retirement savings solutions for the modern customer. Fed up with the high cost, the outdated investment philosophy and the lack of transparency associated with their own retirement products, the founders of fairr.de, Jens Jennissen, Dr. Alexander Kihm and Ambros Gleissner, decided to structure and offer their own pension products. They founded fairr.de at the end of 2013 and launched it in July 2014. The first product, called fairriester, is a fully licensed “Riester” product, which uses all available tax incentives. Its costs are one-third of the cost of comparable products and it is based on state-of-the-art asset management. The product is available online and through independent financial advisers. Every woman in the world wants to look attractive, and in a saturated market of hairstylists and make-up artists it is extremely difficult to find a trustworthy professional. “We launched Savvie in mid-2014 to give women access to a curated roster of proven beauty professionals who are already in demand for fashion shows, TV and high-class clients.“ A prospective client is faced with a wedding, gala or rendezvous, goes to our website, chooses a look and hairstyle and books it. Savvie instantly connects the professional and the client to set up a meeting at home or in a hotel. Currently, Savvie can be booked in Berlin and Munich and will fully serve clients in five major German cities in late 2015. In 2016, Savvie will be bookable in every major German city. The same year, a website dedicated to Savvie‘s corporate clients will be launched followed by an expansion into major European cities. Savvie Corporate will also serve trade shows, press conferences, live TV events and board meetings. WWW.SAVVIE.DE 165

Early last year, Philipp GĂśtting had the vision of bringing community spirit back to neighborhoods. Consequently, he and AndrĂŠ Dieling founded WirNachbarn. com last summer. Neighbors and neighborhood communities use WirNachbarn to interact and to support each other. More precisely, they ask for recommendations (good plumber? trustworthy babysitter?), share observations (playground demolished: have you seen something?), support each other (who can lend me a drill?) and give away the things they no longer need. In addition, neighbors can utilize platform functions like groups and event creation to organize street feasts or share announcements. Most important and unique: users have to validate their identity. This feature allows WirNachbarn a rightful claim to having "real neighbors, with real names" and not only face accounts. A matching algorithm brings together the perfect tandems. The idea came up in the last job held by Anna Kaiser and Jana Tepe as recruitment consultants. A „tandem application“ with two candidates applying for one full-time job together totally changed their perspective. INNOVATIONLABS.BERLIN ‌ FIRST FULL SERVICE STARTUP INCUBATOR TO RENT

HOW STARTUPS AND ESTABLISHED BUSINESSES BENEFIT FROM DEEP ENGAGEMENT, AND BOTH WIN by Klaus G. Kammermeier

KLAUS G. KAMMERMEIER Intrapreneur, entrepreneur, consultant, coach, mentor and innovation expert, Klaus is pioneering a unique innovation eco-system that connects innovators, freelancers and startups with established businesses to create sustainable new ventures. Startups need tangible problems with customer access to iterate their ideas into valuable solutions. This enables them to capture small markets and gain positions for growth. While they have unique capabilities and expertise, many need funding and implementation competence to improve their chances for success. Today, many startups bootstrap, get on with small amounts of private or public funds or apply for funding from high caliber programs, often repeatedly. Tomorrow, they will work closely with established businesses to solve real problems and create thriving new ventures.

InnovationLabs.Berlin is the link between startups and SMEs, for all players to benefit. Startups gain funding, customer access, solutions for problems as well as the space, framework and connections to develop successful businesses. SMEs gain access to untapped domain expertise and unique entrepreneurial talent. They also get many impulses to advance their innovation capabilities and culture. Last but not least, they obtain preferential access to cutting edge products, services, processes or business models needed to deliver growth aspirations or solve strategic challenges, like Industrie 4.0.

Established small and medium size enterprises (SME) do not have the resources to start innovation centers, startup accelerators or incubators. Nevertheless, they also aim at developing and establishing new products, services, processes or business models and search for value adding solutions, transformative processes and a sustainable innovation culture. Often, their goal is to position new products or services faster than anyone else into their global markets, enabling profitable growth built on strong existing supply positions. Today, their innovation success is mostly based on specific expertise, their ability to closely listen to and serve their customers, and on the manner in which they encourage the ideas of highly talented employees. Tomorrow, they will invest in promising new ideas provided by startups.

InnovationLabs.Berlin manages the complete incubation process leading towards the rapid development of promising ideas: application, selection, onboarding, and their transfer to existing structures.

InnovationLabs.Berlin, the first full service provider of startup incubation and open innovation

To enable startups to quickly develop, test, iterate and validate their business models, InnovationLabs.Berlin creates the infrastructure and provides an advanced framework that unifies the best of today‘s innovation methods. TestObject was founded in 2012 by the Berlin Business School graduates in Business Computing Hannes Lenke and Andreas L端deke, who wanted to make the life of app developers and testers easier. The company provides a SaaS platform with hundreds of real devices, accessible directly from any browser, where developers can upload their apps onto devices and see if and how they perform. Along with the devices, the company offers several testing tools to check the app functionality from all angles. The idea started to take hold after the founders began working for different companies like SAP, IBM and Lufthansa, noticing the lack of suitable mobile app testing tools. Then and there, they decided to join their technical superpowers and make a difference in the mobile app world. TestObject customers include startups like komoot and 6Wunderkinder, but the big leagues as well, like Bosch, Philips and Creditreform, trust this startup with their mobile app testing.

THE HUNDERT // SMART HOME

The beautiful King’s Colonnades were completed in 1780 to be used as a roofed hall for the King’s Bridge. In 1910, the bridge was sacrificed for the construction of the Alexanderplatz station, and the colonnades were later moved to the Heinrich-von-Kleist Park, where they can still be seen today.

While some aspects of our daily life already live up to what was considered sci-fi only two decades ago, others disappointingly lag behind. When the two friends Rin and Angelo realized smart home was one of these unfulfilled promises, they decided to get to work. Combining their skills in hardware engineering and software development, they built their first prototypes in the back room of a Berlin hackerspace. With Dilan taking care of business and Nadine developing the UX, what started as a pet project soon became a fully-fledged successfully funded startup. swocket’s mission is to make the smart home fun – by providing a chat-based interface for smart devices. The idea came up during a trip to China where chatbased services are becoming increasingly popular. When ordering pizza can be as simple and fun as texting a friend, why not set up your smart home the same way? The idea not only appeals to smart home enthusiasts: swocket is one of four teams in the Deutsche Bahn accelerator.

BuddyGuard believes that home security should be intelligent, easy and affordable. It should protect you and your home all by itself, without compromising your privacy. Most of all, security should be hassle-free: Gone are the days of endless cables, seven digit codes and unappealing hardware. Based on these convictions, BuddyGuard was founded in 2014. Herbert Hellemann, Wouter Verhoog and George Platon made it their mission to gap the bridge between old-school security solutions like Abus and lifestyle devices like Canary. According to Wouter, their COO with a background in Marketing and Business Development: "Security should not be complicated nor time-consuming. This is why we designed Flare to do all the surveillance, prevention and follow-up on its own. Flare is stacked with powerful hardware and advanced artificial intelligence." BuddyGuard recently raised â‚Ź160.000 in pre-orders on Kickstarter and are now talking with major partners and resellers in Europe and the United States. WWW.BUDDYGUARD.IO

In January 2015, five founders started Teamplace with the mission of making file sharing and collaboration among teams easier than ever before. From their headquarters in Berlin’s Moabit district comes a new and practical approach to the classic file sharing concept. In addition to permanent 10GB of personal storage, the solution provides boundless storage for short-term team projects to unlimited numbers of members. The clear separation of personal from shared storage and the fact that the shared content is later completely deleted from the cloud, are among the solution’s many highlights. With the founding of the spin-off in June 2015, the team behind Teamplace focused on the core business and launched apps (web, iOS, Android) for live operation aimed at end users and SMEs. Already with a five-digit user count, Teamplace is shaking up the cloud storage market by breaking new ground. WWW.TEAMPLACE.NET 213

Make booking an intercity bus ticket as easy as booking a flight, this is the vision of the B2B travel tech startup Distribusion. Founded in November 2012 by Julian Hauck and Johannes Thunert, the company raised a seven-digit seed round in December 2014. Since then, Distribusion has brought more than 100 intercity bus operators on board throughout 25 European and Asian countries. Comparable to Global Distribution Systems such as Amadeus and Sabre, Distribusion’s technology enables intercity bus operators to partner with travel resellers, such as agencies, travel websites and mobility apps worldwide, without the effort of acquiring and managing them mutually. Based on its scalable technology and the keen interest of travel resellers and bus operators abroad, Distribusion aims to continue its rapid growth and enter the top 20 intercity bus markets outside of Europe in 2016. THE HUNDERT // ADVERTORIAL

“FOUND AS A TEAM AND LOVE WHAT YOU DO“ Ten years ago, Martin Brüggemann, Jan Christe and Andreas Lenz founded yeebase media and published the first edition of the t3n magazine for digital business. Ten years later, the company is still managed by the founders. 35 employees work for the publisher now. Which tips would these three provide for other founders? WHICH GROWTH HACKS WERE THE MOST VALUABLE IN THESE TEN YEARS AS ENTREPRENEURS, AND WHY? Andreas Lenz: In order to create an extended range for our brand and our first print edition, we started a blog and newsletter via t3n.de on May, 1st 2005, supplying our target group with news on a daily basis. The blog rapidly gained popularity via mailing lists and the then-popular „Google Alerts“ via specific keywords, and became our prime onboarding method. Today we would probably call the blog a growth hack, but the most effective hack took place around one month later. We used our established range together with press releases to give away around 1,000 free copies of the t3n magazine No. 1. The response was intense. Also thanks to articles such as those from our esteemed colleagues from Golem.de who, back then, headlined „T3N – TYPO3 gets a print magazine“. This all meant that our database was filled up very quickly. DID YOU RECEIVE A BUSINESS GRANT OR OTHER SUBSIDIES IN THE BEGINNING? Jan Christe: Yes, we did. We won a total of four start-up prizes, some of which were money and some contributions in kind such as cheap office spaces or coaching. But of course they weren‘t simply given to us – we had to make a pitch and present our business concept in detail. DO YOU THINK YOU WOULD HAVE FOUNDED THE BUSINESS OR CONTINUED WITHOUT A SUBSIDY? Jan Christe: Absolutely. We only got the subsidy after we had started and after the first edition of the t3n magazine was published. Besides that, only companies that are capable of surviving without any subsidies are supported. This kind of support basically just accelerates the start and makes it easier.

YOU‘RE NOT ONLY JOURNALISTS BUT ENTREPRENEURS. WHAT EXPERIENCES HAVE YOU GONE THROUGH IN THIS SECTOR? WHAT ADVICE CAN YOU GIVE TO FUTURE FOUNDERS? Andreas Lenz: 1.   Do everything with a sense of passion and love what you do. 2.   Create an environment that you enjoy every day – for example friendly colleagues, a cool office or flexible work times. 3.   Always welcome feedback and keep a close eye on role models and mentors. 4.   Perfection is a time killer – concentrate on what‘s important and also be satisfied with 90 %. 5.   Create an authentic, friendly brand that people can easily relate to. Key terms: openness, community, transparency, likeability, love brand. 6.   Found as a team and not on your own! Our founding team with various sets of skills consisting of Martin (CTO), Jan (Chief Editor) and myself (Sales and Marketing guy) is probably the most high-performance motor you could desire. 7.   Face risks, have the courage to make mistakes and learn from them. 8.   Create as much space as possible for your employees and a surrounding where mistakes are allowed. 9.   Don‘t forget to celebrate success, respect your partners and compliment your colleagues as much as possible. 10.   You make progress in the niches and in grey areas. Always keep your eyes open for innovations, new gaps and growth hacks. You can find the complete interview (in German) here: http://t3n.me/1gzbw1y

Leinentausch (eng.: LeashSwap) is the online marketplace where dog owners can book peer-2-peer dog sitting services: dog walking, daycare and holiday accommodation. The problem often arises: Dog owners cannot provide adequate care 24/7 all year round. Neighborly help or nailing a note in a park tree used to provide solutions but it is becoming increasingly difficult with the changing times. Relocations, employment changes and family constellations create a new situation from one month to the next and the dog may not be brought along. The solution is to match dog loving households with the dog owners who need help via Internet, the ideal technology in this quest. The advantages: P2P accommodation is cheaper and a home environment is cozier than the standard dog hotel. The added value: the puppy gets a lot of individual attention. Leinentausch was founded in 2013 and has been part of Axel Springer Plug And Play since spring 2014. Leinentausch is the market leader in DACH and is looking forward to expand its services to other countries. WWW.LEINENTAUSCH.DE

Cagebot designs modular robotics systems for industrial, educational and personal use. The product line includes a large variety of components such as sturdy bricks, powerful motors and precise sensors to support creativity and provide an educational tool for current and future generations. After working in the industrial automation business, Ringo and Kai developed Cagebot in late 2011 and founded the company in 2014. Later, the number of team members increased and the product was kickstarted to the final stage. The result was a comprehensive software framework for robotics with a manageable graphical user interface for all major mobile and desktop operating systems. Presently, Cagebot is used at workshops in schools to teach children about next generation technologies. At the same time, Cagebot started to develop industrial robots. Driven by the modular nature of their system, this technology can be exchanged between industrial, educational and personal products.

Berlin’s flak towers were built during World War II in 1940. Three pairs of towers were erected in public parks, one of them built in Humboldthain with a connecting bunker in 1942. Since the Ringbahn closely passes by the location, not everything could be demolished and can still be visited.

Juice Dudes is a Berlin-based startup founded in October 2014 by Robert Rüter, Malte Gützlaff, and Dominik Lalla. Its mission is to provide an honest and fair product that contributes to your healthy lifestyle. The three dudes were exposed to cold pressed juice during their studies in the UK and upon their return they were surprised not to find them in German supermarkets. Aware of its various benefits, they decided to take it upon themselves to introduce the product to the German market. Cold-pressing is a technique which allows extracting liquid from leaves or roots not commonly known in juice. The result is distinct: unique flavors, maximized nutrition and a small basket of fruits and veggies in just a bottle. But – Don’t panic, it’s organic! You currently find their products in biomarkets such as Bio Company and Denns or in their online shop. In the near term, they will add selected cafes as distribution partners and will continue spreading that dudeishness among us all. WWW.JUICEDUDES.DE

HEY STARTUPS! THIS TIME THE HUNDERT GOES FAR BEYOND PRINT... AT WWW.HEY-STARTUPS.COM YOU WILL FIND

100 OFFICE TOURS AND VIDEO INTERVIEWS WITH ALL THE BERLIN STARTUPS FEATURED IN THE CURRENT ISSUE OF THE HUNDERT. TIME TO SAY HEY ; ) eywalk.com wants to become the platform and market place where people create and share authentic videos about locations from a selfie-perspective. The format provides a fun and cost-efficient alternative to text and photo-based location reviews as well as to traditional image and film advertising. Andreas Ebert and Dirk M端ller-Dornieden founded eywalk in March 2015 and are currently bootstrapping eywalk, working to produce videos for corporate clients, publishers, organizations and agencies. Simultaneously, eywalk is looking for seedfunding to launch eywalk.com and the eywalk app.

Our small publishing house is growing. The team photos appearing in the various editions of the Hundert are good indicators of that. While in the first issue two years ago you could see two people on the team photo, there are now 14 people in this sixth edition. Two years ago, there was only the Hundert. Meanwhile, Berlin Valley News, a monthly news magazine, and Berlin-Startup.Events, our website for events joined in. That is great! Yet, even greater is the fact that this team has found each other and is working dedicatedly on these projects day after day. For this, a big thank you to (from left to right): Jan Thomas, Carolina Menendez Trucco, Yaron Lewin, Miriam Banerjee, Claudia Lunscken, Daniel Andriani, Aleksandra Czekalska, Florian Stein, Magdalena Krygielska, Malgorzata Czubak, Massimo Pisati, Corinna Visser, Katarzyna Oldziejewska, Simona Luhova & Robert Hinsch, who is currently basking in the sun. 284

TEAMWORK MAKES THE DREAM WORK

THANK YOU! We really enjoyed producing this issue of the Hundert. Of course, to accomplish such a project, it is necessary to have a lot of support. Therefore, we do not forget to say thank you to the many people who helped us and stood by our side during the entire process: our incredible photographers Ana Santl, Saskia Uppenkamp, Franz Grünewald and Martin Waltz. They make us see Berlin and the Startups in Berlin through their eyes... and we love (or like) what we see. Our most sincere thanks also to Balázs Tarsoly and his team from Operation Butterfly for wonderful collaboration and the brilliant design they have once again offered us. It is always a pleasure to have the opportunity to work with you guys! Natascha, you have achieved the perfect connection between photos and content. The magazine is, most of all, your work of art. Thank you for your perseverance and patience. You did a great job! Thank you! Riccardo Volpato for the great cover, Lilian Eßer, Lena Zimpel, Dominik Pfaff, Bianca Rother and Afrodite Gaki for their design, Johnnie Clapper for his watchful eye and steady hand – it is (as always) a pleasure to work with you all. The same goes for Steffen Setzer, Manuela Wachs and Tobias Hesse from our printing partner Laserline for the reliable cooperation; Hilda Ortiz for the editing, translations and hours of overtime. Our big gratitude also goes to Dirk Müller-Dornieden from Eywalk. Dirk and his team, Stephan Kalinski and Isabelle Merillet, visited all the hundred startups to carry out video interviews or video office tours with them. The results may be seen in Hey-Startups.com. We also thank the experienced entrepreneurs for their contributions and for providing us with their “first we take Berlin” insight. Jens Begemann of Wooga, Anna Alex of Outfittery, Lucas von Cranach of Onefootball, Robert Gentz of Zalando, Johannes Reck of GetYourGuide, Alexander Kudlich of Rocket Internet, Ijad Madisch of Research Gate, Lea-Sophie Cramer of Amorelie, Eric Wahlforss of SoundCloud, Markus Witte of Babbel, Florian Heinemann of Project A Ventures, Florian Meissner of EyeEm, Jan Beckers of Hitfox Group, Gary Lin of glispa, Alexander Zacke of Auctionata, Niklas Östberg of Delivery Hero, Christian Reber of 6Wunderkinder: we are very excited about your perspectives! For the first time, this issue of the Hundert was produced in 100 locations. We therefore want to express our gratitude to the contact persons who facilitated our use of the premises: Rieke Edelhoff from Zoo, Nicole Hahl from Zitadelle Spandau, Tobias Graf from Hotel Zoo, Linda Schentke from Fluxbau, Alexander Golya from CWC Gallery, Peter Ullrich from Café Pförtner, Kerstin Bock from Tech Open Air. We also thank all those we could not personally meet but who helped us execute the 100 photo shootings. As always, we would most notably like to thank our media partners, sponsors and advertising partners without whom we would not have been able to realize the Hundert. For this issue, we would like especially to point out: Tim Dümichen, Marius Sternberg, Sabiha Chergui, Philipp Glock, Matthias Hiller from KPMG; Klaus Siegers, Luzi Teber and Maike Valentin from Weberbank; Christian Ramme, Andreas Thümmler, Daniel Schenk, Johannes H. Lucas from ACXIT Capital Partners; Olaf Nissler, Lena Dinter, Ignatz Schatz from SAP; Christian Herzog, Henning Ravn, Beatrice Vogel and Sebastian Holtgrewe from Berlin Partner. Special gratitude also goes to the Governing Mayor of Berlin, Michael Müller, Tim Brandt of IHK, Tilo Bonow of piabo, Andrea Peters of media.net, Julian Riedelbauer of GP Bullhound, Sabine Stengel of Cartogis, Thomas Letz for your anti-bureaucratic ways, Alice Romeril for the make-up by our team shooting, Konstantin Iwanow (you are the best), the team von Vertical Media, Alexander Hüsing of Deutsche Startups, Florian Blaschke of t3n, the two and only Candy Behunin and Robin Haak, Markus Kuehn of Flux FM, Volker Schütz of Horizont and, of course, the complete NKF Team for the sustained cooperation and support. Massimo Pisati for the event coordination, Florian Stein for his technical assistance, Carolina Menéndez Trucco for coordinating the video shootings and the content for the website, Aleksandra Czekalska for her assistance in most photo shootings. And not to forget Claudia, Corinna, Gosia, Robert, Daniel, Yaron and Magda. One can count on you! We do not forget the very many assistants and helpers from the startups for the relentless management of your founding teams (keyword: “a sack full of fleas”); and last but not least, we want to thank all the participating startup entrepreneurs who embarked on this crazy idea (and, almost without exception, were punctual for the shootings). Thanks for your great statements and for smiling for the camera. It has been a pleasure working with you all. With such entrepreneurs, Berlin can honestly succeed at something big. Most importantly, we would like to thank you, our readers. You have made the Hundert what it is today. Kata, Simona, Miriam and Jan
