This is just one example of the fruit from your partnership with CBN! Pages 10 and 11 explain partnership levels and the vision for this new season. I hope you are as excited as we are, and pray you will continue to walk this journey with us - under His blessings and direction. GROWING IN GODLY WISDOM Gordon Robertson Experience teaches us who we are in Christ

R|04

BLOOM |

Vividly I recall the first time I ever spoke in a courtroom as an attorney for a paying client. I had won the Trial Award at my law school graduation, so I thought I was ready—until I stood up in that courtroom and suddenly realized that all my book learning was useless without the actual experience of trying a real case. There is only one way to get that experience, and it was through my mistakes that I learned some very valuable lessons. We can also grow in wisdom through dificulties. Paul had been shipwrecked, beaten, stoned, and left for dead. Yet he writes in Romans 5:3-4: We also glory in tribulations, knowing that tribulation produces perseverance; and perseverance, character; and character, hope. In Greek, the word character means “tested and approved.” You have gone through trying times and didn’t wilt under fire. You came back proven and solid, and you understand who you are in Christ. Whatever circumstance you face, you know nothing can stand against you. That’s why Paul goes on to say in Romans 5:5, “Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit.” It is the voice of experience. This is the voice of someone who knows he can trust God, no matter what happens. Faith is spelled R-I-S-K. You are out of your comfort zone. The only thing you know is that God said it. And He wants His people to say, “That’s all I need, God. If You have said it, I will go.” Then

we trust God to see us through. James 1:5 tells us, “If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.” We need to humble ourselves and say, “God, I don’t know what I’m doing; please guide me like a child.” He won’t get mad when we ask; instead, He promises to give us wisdom liberally.

“IT WAS THROUGH MY MISTAKES THAT I LEARNED SOME VERY VALUABLE LESSONS.”

Finally, we find this key in Proverbs 11:30: “He who wins souls is wise. God has chosen and appointed us to preach His Gospel to every nation, tongue and tribe.” By winning souls we prove our wisdom, showing that our true treasure is heaven. God bless you. R|05

MYNT FILMS The newest project for our CBN Europe media team is the development of an exciting new branch of the ministry reaching the millennial onlinefocused generation. As viewers move away from their television sets for media and entertainment consumption, CBN Europe felt a need to include itself in the trend to share the Gospel in a fresh way. Conversations around this new project resulted in what is now known as MYNT Films. MYNT is a media collective who create short films with an emphasis on lifestyle, spirituality and culture. All content is designed to open a conversation about these themes and how their implications influence our lives. We want to bring a new flavour to our world and give viewers a chance to step away from their busy, over-stimulated lives, get refreshed and simply consider the views we present. Our MYNT videos will link viewers to CBN Europe where they can hear about the hope offered through Jesus. We will also provide some devotional material which will be made available to resource churches and small-groups. This is just the beginning for MYNT Films and we are very excited about the ideas God continues to give us for the project. To keep up with MYNT Films, visit us at www.myntfilms.co, find us on Facebook or follow @myntfilms on Twitter and Instagram. When you support CBN Europe and our CBN UK Studio project, you are also supporting MYNT! To make a special gift, visit www.cbneurope.com/donate or call us at 0300 561 0700 (UK). PURPOSE-FILLED LIVING Lives Shaped by God

I wake up with purpose every day. I really do! I have plans and projects, duties and responsibilities, and of course there’s breakfast, which is always high on my list of reasons to get out of bed! Our day-to-day purpose is relatively easy to find; we mix a bit of what we need to do, with however much we can get away with of what we want to do, and are left with some things we wish we didn’t do, and perhaps a bit more to do tomorrow. The story of Jesus and the Samaritan woman at the beginning of John 4 shows how our purpose can come out of any (and every) situation. The woman has gone to the well to draw water, which must have been a mundane daily task, when she meets Jesus who asks her for a drink. After a brief conversation and a huge revelation, this woman becomes one of the first evangelists; as she immediately tells her whole village about Jesus! See how Jesus places divine purpose within the most ordinary of meetings? One thing that strikes me, is that collecting water was not an ungodly purpose. Sometimes the things that give us purpose are not bad for us, but R|08

they aren’t the very best. Jesus says, “If you only knew the gift God has for you and who you are speaking to, you would ask me and I would give you living water”. What do we pursue in our own lives that Jesus wants to refresh and renew with His living water? When we are caught up in our to-do list, we can easily miss the God-given purpose that is in each and every day. When we can’t see who Jesus is or what He offers, we often get side-tracked and miss the opportunities He gives minute by minute. Our real purpose does not run dry, and it doesn’t wear us down. It never becomes routine and it isn’t a hidden or abstract dream, waiting to be woken within us. Jesus is our purpose; when we spend time letting Him fill us each day, His living water fills us and flows throughout our lives. According to John’s gospel, this woman was the first person to whom Jesus revealed his identity as the Messiah. This is the key; when we spend time with Jesus and let Him reveal Himself to us, we will never be thirsty for purpose again.

CBN STORIES |

SEEING CLEARLY Sandra says, “I began to feel like there was some kind of a cloudiness that was interfering with my ability to read relatively easily. It felt almost as if I was looking through a dirty window. No matter how much I tried to clean, it wasn’t going to be completely clean. I even put warm washcloths on my eyes thinking that would help. It just didn’t seem to help at all. My husband had a stroke and he has been needing my care. It’s extremely difficult for him. So when we would have our prayer time and devotional time, I took it upon myself to read to him. I felt like I was getting robbed of those nice moments with my husband. It was very frustrating. Nothing seemed to help. It was a persistent thing. So I said ‘Lord, I don’t know what else to do but I really need You to touch me.’

“ I AM EXTREMELY THANKFUL TO THE LORD FOR HIS STEADFAST LOVE.”

We were watching The 700 Club and Terry Meeuwsen had a word of knowledge saying, ‘There is a fog in your eye and it’s difficult to see. Close your eyes now as Jesus heals your eyes completely.’ I just said, ‘I’m going to claim that.’ It’s not like I felt anything. It’s not like some warmth came over me, but I knew it was God. The next day I woke up—it was so crystal clear! I said, ‘I want to see what this day holds.’ I went through the day and no cloudiness. God saw how much that meant to me, not just to me, but to my husband. I am extremely thankful to the Lord for His steadfast love and His mercies that never come to an end. We sometimes think God only wants to hear the big stuff, but I can testify that is not true. He wants to hear even the small things.”

What is your story? Send your testimony to us: PO Box 700, Hereford, HR1 9EW, UK or email us at testimony@700club.tv R|09

WORLD CHANGERS CBN Partnership Explained

Did you know there are various levels of giving to the ministry of CBN? You may have heard of them whilst watching The 700 Club, our flagship television programme. Of course, you can give any amount, single or monthly, as you decide in your heart. We are grateful for all gifts, regardless of the amount. For many partners, the giving levels provide a framework that helps them to define at which level they can support the global ministry of CBN. On a regular basis we receive calls from our partners who express the desire to increase in giving. We often pray with partners like yourselves for financial breakthroughs and offer Biblical advice on giving. Ultimately, the Lord loves a cheerful giver (2 Corinthians 9:7). He loves to see His children invest in His work – and it pleases Him to bless us! Here at CBN, we even encourage our staff to be 700 Club partners and give to the ministry. Giving is an exciting adventure with God! As we learn to trust Him in small steps, He builds our faith by blessing us - encouraging us as we step out further.

CBN partners provided a life-changing surgery for this baby.

A GIFT FROM GOD

BRINGING JOY TO A FAMILY Every time Phindile or Sylvester fed their baby, they remembered the first day they held her in their arms, and saw that the baby was born with a cleft lip and pallet. “My first thought was that I had done something wrong and God was punishing me,” says Phindile. Phindile worried about what Sylvester, would think about the child, but his reaction wasn’t what she expected. Sylvester says, “I told myself that even if she is crippled, there’s a lot of children that are crippled, and their parents just accepted them the way they are, so me too. I have to accept my child the way she is.” They named her Ntando, which means ‘Beloved’, “because she was given to us by God,” says Phindile. R|12

Both parents did what they could to help her. Sylvester went online to find out more about her condition, while Phindile talked to God. “I asked my church to come pray for her,” says Phindile. “I believe God was waiting for us to pray, because when we did, we soon found our help.” Not long after, the couple was excited to learn about the possibility of a lifechanging surgery for their daughter. CBN sponsored Ntando’s corrective surgery, completely free of charge, through Operation Smile; they knew that their prayers had been answered. “Thank you CBN,” says Phindle. “I am so grateful, I cannot repay you for what you have done. I pray you will be able to continue helping other children.”

Two-year-old Adia suddenly stopped playing and began crying non-stop. His mother Siti found an eggsized lump on his lower abdomen, and rushed him to the hospital. Doctors said Adia had developed a hernia and needed surgery. Siti’s husband earned little at the factory in their remote Indonesian village, so he took extra construction work to save up. With no health care assistance, the couple desperately tried to stop their son’s pain with their own remedies—but nothing helped.

Pastor Malachi raced to save an infant girl from tragedy. Her mother had died in childbirth, and it was custom in their Thailand village to bury the newborn alive with her. However, the father consented to let Malachi and his wife adopt her. They had already adopted 20 orphans— and had three children of their own. When the owner suddenly took back his field, Malachi feared he would have to shut down the children’s home. Desperate, the family began to pray. Thankfully, CBN was there and provided them with food and even a new kitchen. Plus, partners helped them breed fish to eat and sell, and also start a weaving business.

Then one day, CBN visited their village and offered free corrective surgeries. One of our surgeons successfully repaired the boy’s hernia. Days later, Adia was running and playing!

“THANK YOU. THIS HAS BEEN THE BEST THING THAT HAS EVER HAPPENED TO US!”

THE CALLING Bridget Vogel | CBN UK Writer & Host What is your calling? It is a question that strikes every Christian to their core at least once during their faith walk. It’s one that can cause us to reconsider everything we’ve ever done and everything we might do. Generally speaking, the heart of humanity itself cries out for a reason why we occupy this planet. We search everywhere for answers, often determined that this calling is fulfilled in a line of work, in having a family, or in attaining some kind of recognition R|14

FEATURED |

“Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men.” Colossians 3:23

or success. Yet when all of the things we do are boiled down, I would argue the majority of us still find ourselves dissatisfied. We were all created for something. As Christians, we know that we serve a God whose very essence is creativity. He speaks something unique into each of us. In his second letter to Timothy, Paul reminds us that we were created because of God’s almighty purpose and grace. God colours in the outline of your form with dreams,

hopes and desires straight from His heart. However, as we move through our lives, we forget the innocence and purity of those things that make us unique and begin a never-ending game of comparison and questioning. We sink into feelings of inferiority or inadequacy if we aren’t making enough money, haven’t achieved any kind of recognisable award, or don’t make it swiftly through the levels of the rat race. In a recent RELEVANT Magazine R|15

article entitled Your Calling is Closer than You Think, Karen Yates wrote, ‘we have an expectation that our calling is discoverable...we’ll find it one day, eventually, and our lives will never be the same.’

one who can answer that question, but immediately start to qualify the why and why not’s, put those thoughts on pause.

I believe many of us wish this process looked like Veronica Roth depicted it in her noted Divergent series. We could take a test to determine where we belong in the world, gather in a room and make our choice, though not immune from societal, familial or economic pressures.

Why have I asked you to do this? Because the answer you give is one of the many colours God created you with. That dream is a desire of your heart and Psalm 37:10 clearly tells us that it is God who gives us those heart desires. That Psalm also says that we must delight in the Lord to see those desires actualised.

“WE WERE CREATED BECAUSE OF GODʼS ALMIGHTY PURPOSE AND GRACE.” Indeed, who decided that our calling must be some kind of profession, title or role? We’ve clothed the term in an idea that it’s about what we do with our lives, rather than seeing that, beneath the layers, calling is entirely about who we are. I want you to stop for a moment and consider this question: what stirs your heart? If money was no object, and family expectations held no weight, if you were completely free to do whatever you wanted in this world, what would it be? When posed with that question, many of us have difficulty being honest. And if you are R|16

Hang on to the dream.

The point that God made through Jesus, and continually reinforces as He strips away our religion emphasising relationship with Himself, is that it isn’t about what we do. The Gospels make it clear that Jesus had two nonnegotiables: loving the Lord God with His entire heart, soul and mind and loving people as Himself. Jesus could’ve been preaching in a synagogue, having dinner with tax collectors, healing a blind man, or taking a boat trip across a lake. It didn’t matter what he was doing; His calling was always the same: love God, love people. Come back to that dream that’s in your heart, or the thing you’ve always wanted to do, but set aside because life got in the way. If you have been delighting yourself in the Lord, He’s given you a desire to pursue that thing, whatever it is. However, that thing is not your calling. Your calling is loving God and loving people through whatever it is that you do.

FEATURED |

Don’t stress about an unnecessary quest to find this enigmatic calling.

So long as we are loving God and loving people, we can ask God to grant us those desires and fulfill those plans as David prayed in Psalm 20:4. We can be assured that all things work together for the good of those who love God, or who are called according to His purpose (Romans 8:28). Things that you enjoy doing can serve the purpose of God! It’s a crazy thought, I know, but it is truth. We have to keep in mind that all things might be lawful, but not necessarily helpful (1 Corinthians 6:12), but if we are truly pursuing a relationship with God, set in great community, and seriously following after Him, we won’t desire to go after things that are outside of God’s heart. If you are struggling to choose a direction afraid of being outside the will of God, or a calling you thought you had changes direction, take a breath and relax. Are you loving God? Are you loving people? What makes you feel alive? Jesus stated in John 10:10 that His

plan was also for us to enjoy life and have it in abundance. Find a new job, hobby or learn something you’ve always wanted to learn if it will bring you joy! Then give glory to God doing it wholeheartedly (Colossians 3:23).

“YOUR CALLING IS LOVING GOD AND LOVING PEOPLE THROUGH WHATEVER IT IS THAT YOU DO.” Don’t stress about an unnecessary quest to find this enigmatic calling. God isn’t out to make this life complicated. Love God first and let Him remind you of the beautiful dreams He created you with. Love people second, and do so while on the journey of actualising those dreams. Herein you’ll find you’ve found your calling. R|17

KATIE DAVIS MAJORS

Interview from The 700 Club Interactive.

“IF JESUS SAID WE HAVE TO CARE FOR THEM, WE HAVE TO CARE FOR THEM.”

Katie Davis Majors had her life turned completely inside out after a short mission trip to Uganda. She found herself so moved, so broken by the people and the children that she knew her calling was to return and care for them. She has gone on to adopt 14 children there and to further her reach into the needs of Ugandans, Katie established Amazima Ministries, which helps children to receive education, nutrition, medical care and discipleship. She shares her story in her book ‘Kisses From Katie’. What was it about your experience in Uganda that made you feel God wanted you to serve there? I fell in love with the people and the country immediately. The people are joyful and gracious, even if they don’t have material things, and that was new to me, as happiness without material things was not something I grew up knowing. I fell more in love with Jesus there, and as He stripped me of the things I had in the U.S., I began to rely on Him more, which I liked. I liked feeling close to Him in that way. I was also overwhelmed with this huge need, and I thought, “If Jesus said we have to care for them, then we have to care for them.” And I needed to R|18

INTERVIEW |

give my life to that. What drew you into adoption? It entered my life without me knowing it was adoption. A house along the street fell down, and I went to the hospital to pray for the little girl that had lived there. I discovered she was nine years old and was raising her seven and five year old sisters alone. Their father had died and they’d been living on their own in the house. So I said, “If they don’t have anywhere to go then they can stay with me”, because that seemed like the obvious thing to do. They didn’t have a house, and I did. Then, as I searched for their biological family, I found no-one. Orphanages weren’t an option as they were all overcrowded. The more I prayed about it and looked for their family, God confirmed to me: “You are the family that you are looking for in these little girls’ lives.” It’s not only children you’re taking care of, as you tell a story in your book about an elderly woman in the village who had TB. As she cried out to God “Please, send someone to help”, you walked through her door. How do you care for the dying, and what gives you a heart to care for them? It’s hard not to let your heart become hurt as you pray for these dying people over and over, and them see them die, but I see them coming to Christ, and see them feel loved right before their death which makes it worthwhile. Any time I hesitate to bring someone to our home, my children are my encouragement. They don’t want

“GOD PLACES NEEDS IN FRONT OF US AND IT IS OUR JOB TO OBEY.”

others to have nothing, and this is very encouraging. What makes you bring people to your home and share life with them? I believe Christ causes us to live in community like that, and I think there is a huge blessing that comes as a result. We’ve had homeless families, foster babies and grandmas staying with us. It has been a blessing to bless them with our physical belongings, and they have blessed us with their joy in our home. It’s all about obedience. God places needs in front of us and it is our job to obey and meet those needs. It’s about saying yes to what God places in front of us, and watching His faithfulness taking place. R|19

HEARING GODʼS VOICE Have you watched the new Superbook episode ‘Samuel And The Call of God’? It is a great reminder that you can never be too young to be called into God’s service. For years, Hannah wanted to have a child. One year, she broke down crying. She turned her cries into prayers. She prayed to God and made a promise to Him. She promised to dedicate her son to godliness. God blessed Hannah with a child named Samuel. He grew up to be a mighty prophet for God. The boy Samuel served the Lord by assisting Eli, the priest of the tabernacle. Now in those days messages from the Lord were very rare, and visions were quite uncommon. One night Eli, who was almost blind by now, had gone to bed. The lamp of God had not yet gone out, and Samuel was sleeping in the Tabernacle near the Ark of God. The Lord called out to Samuel, starting him on a journey to redeem Israel. It’s an incredible story of obedience and faith. We hope you have an amazing month and that this Easter you had the opportunity to share about Jesus with your friends and family that don’t know him! R|21

A STEP OF FAITH What does it look like to take a step of faith? Faith always requires an action. Sometimes that looks like handing a troubling situation over to God. Other times, it looks like making a bold move by the leading of the Holy Spirit. Whatever form it takes, faith delights the heart of God. In fact, Scripture goes so far as to say that we cannot please God if we do not have faith. Faith is like a bridge that connects our present earthly circumstances to heavenly encounters and breakthroughs. Trust in Him today. Take a step of faith! He will work all things for the good of those who love Him and are called according to His purpose. Do you need prayer?
