RUNNING THE RACE “Let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith.” Hebrews 12:1 NKJV Soon our TV screens will be showing live images from the Olympic Games in Rio. Already every country will have selected what they believe to be the strongest and most competitive team to compete in the games. However, each of these teams will have already been in training for many years and each person selected has one goal in mind, to fix their eye on the goal of attaining the prize and receiving a medal around their neck. As Christians, we are also called to run the race that is before us, which is different for each individual. In order that we might run purposefully there is a strict training regime and diet that needs to be implemented. We are called to lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and run with endurance the race that is set before us. (Hebrews 12:1) It only takes a wrong attitude or a bad habit that can come in to hinder and restrict us. When we fix our eyes on Jesus and learn not to allow other things to distract or cause us to drift, our vision and purpose in life becomes clearer. No matter what circumstance we may currently face, as we learn to fix our gaze on Jesus our problems seem to become smaller and the perspective clearer. If you are currently facing a challenge or overwhelming circumstances, please call our UK prayer centre 0300 561 0700. It’ll be an honour to pray with you. R|03

KEEP YOUR EYES ON THE PRIZE Gordon Robertson If you run with endurance, you receive the imperishable crown
Scripture is quoted from the New King James Version.

BLOOM |
Have you ever lost track of God’s plan for your life? His plan is always to give you a hope and a future. When I ran track in high school, I learnt that you must maximize every stride - and that only winners get medals. As 1 Corinthians 9:24 says, Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may obtain it. In this race called life, we’re looking to win! If you run with endurance, if you persevere, and if you’re purposeful with every step, you receive the imperishable crown. In Revelation 3:10, John records Jesus’ promise to the church in Philadelphia that they would be saved from a time of trial. Why? “Because you have kept My command to persevere.” In the original Greek, this means “because you have kept the logos of endurance.” We know this points to Christ because John writes in John 1:1, “In the beginning was the Word” - the “logos.” Jesus literally is the embodiment of all of God’s message for the whole creation for all time. He endured the cross, despising its shame for the joy set before Him. Jesus goes on to say in Revelation 3:11, “Hold fast what you have, that no one may take your crown.” What is your crown? Paul tells us clearly: For what is our hope, or joy, or crown of rejoicing? Is it not even you in the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ at His coming? For you are our glory and joy (1 Thessalonians 2:19-20). All that we take to heaven with us are the souls we win.
And Paul writes in Philippians 3: That I may know Him and the power of His resurrection, and the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed in His death, if, by any means, I may attain to the resurrection from the dead (vv. 1011). Through the fellowship of suffering, we get to know more about Jesus - the embodiment of truth and holiness, and the logos of endurance. I press on, that I may lay hold of that for which Christ Jesus has also laid hold of me (v. 12). It’s a two-way relationship: He lays hold of you and you lay hold of Him. I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus (v. 14).
“THROUGH THE FELLOWSHIP OF SUFFERING, WE GET TO KNOW MORE ABOUT JESUS.” We have Christ in us - the hope of glory (Colossians 1:27). So we run the race for a crown that will last for all eternity. This is why Galatians 6:9 says, Let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart. Endurance and reaping go hand in hand. And we know we win. For Jesus assures us in Revelation 22:12, “I am coming quickly, and My reward is with Me.” God bless you. R|05

CBN LIVE ON FACEBOOK
We are passionate to spread the Gospel through any media available, being able to share this message of hope with everyone and everywhere. We believe it is important to create media and resources that are culturally relevant and relate to people we are connecting with. For that reason we have been, for the past two months, using Facebook Live to engage and connect with our partners through our online show CBN Live. Every Friday we host a live informal show, that includes devotional and prayer time with our viewers, and the best thing is that all engagement happens simultaneously - people send their questions and prayer requests and we are able to pray and encourage them live. Tune in and watch CBN Live every Friday afternoon on our Facebook pages (CBN Europe and The 700 Club Europe). Like, follow, comment and share with friends.

PERSEVERANCE
Keeping your Eyes on God There is an old Hymn called ‘Count your Blessings’ by Johnson Oatman Jr (1856-1922). The first verse sets the tone of the hymn, ‘When upon life’s billows, you are tempest tossed, when you are discouraged thinking all is lost, Count your many blessings, name them one by one, and it will surprise you what the Lord has done’! Difficulty and challenge is all part of being human – even as Christians! Indeed, difficulty and challenge were just two of the hallmarks of the early church and it’s just the same today, whether we like it or not! “Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. (...) more than that, we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.” Romans 5:1-5 ESV. Although Paul was writing about suffering for the Gospel, he still applied the same principles to his life R|08
of faith. When he wrote about ‘peace with God’, it was not in the context of everything going well for him in the natural, he was speaking about the assurance of the redeemed, eternal relationship that he had with Jesus Christ and the power of the Holy Spirit that was with him. When we go through various difficulties and challenges, just like Paul, it is that same peace, that same assurance of salvation that leads us into a position of hope instead of helplessness, and into a place of victory instead of defeat. It’s only in the power of the Holy Spirit that we can truly keep our eyes on God and persevere to see His kingdom come in any and every situation we may face in our lives. If you are going through one of life’s ‘challenges’, think about this and be thankful for all that God has already done. Bring that situation to Him in prayer and hold onto the ‘peace that goes beyond all understanding’ and let it ‘guard your heart and mind in Christ’ (Phil 4:7 ESV) and persevere to keep your eyes on the Lord as you wait for God’s hand to move in your situation.
CBN STORIES |
THE GREATER DOCTOR When a car accident left Diane Pielmeier with permanent muscle damage in her back, doctors told her she would have to live with pain and limited range of motion the rest of her life, but Diane trusted God for her healing. “I know,” she explained, “I have a great physician in Heaven who’s my Father and who takes care of me. I had to learn patience. I just had to wait on His time.” Diane says she prayed for years until one day, God healed her back pain, and restored most of her range of motion. By then, however, she had also been having frequent headaches. “I just had to rely on the Lord…getting through the moments of pain, getting through the headaches, waiting patiently for his time to move.”
“I ATTRIBUTE ALL THAT HEALING TO THE GREAT PHYSICIAN, MY GOD, MY SAVIOUR, JESUS.”
A few years later, she learnt from a chiropractor that her spine was still under stress, which was causing the headaches. Treatments offered temporary relief, but she knew only God could completely heal her. Then, in June 2015, she was watching The 700 club. “This one particular day,” she remembers, “Terry had a word of knowledge. “There is someone else – you have a spinal issue,” Terry said. “I don’t know what it is but you have some block to the impulses that need to connect down your spine. God is healing that condition for you.” “I felt a chill,” she describes. “I felt a warmth, and I was getting so excited. I knew that that healing was for me. Immediately, I could tell that 100% of healing had taken place. I just felt on top of the world.” For the first time in years, Diane was completely pain free. As far as she is concerned, it is all thanks to God.

HOPE AFTER TERRORISM
CBN Partners Help Victmis of Violence You hear gunfire and shouting, it’s 3 a.m and you’re suddenly wide awake and scared. A neighbour frantically pounds on your door, warning you to leave - terrorists have just invaded your community. You gather your family and run - there is no time to pack. Left behind are your home, job and possessions. And you have no idea if or when you can return. Tragically, in recent years, this has been the situation faced by thousands of innocent men, women and children in the Middle East, Africa, and beyond. Many are persecuted Christians. In fact, brutal Islamic extremist groups like ISIS, the Taliban, and Boko R|10
Haram are driving entire populations out of their homes and cities. These helpless victims are running to escape beheadings, torture, rape, murder, and human trafficking - and seeking asylum in other countries. Yet how will they survive with no resources? Thanks to compassionate friends, CBN is on the front lines. Our outreaches are partnering on the ground with local churches and ministries, offering a lifeline of hope to these refugees. We are providing them with food, emergency relief, medical care, and assistance to start over, while sharing Christ’s comfort and love. CBN News

reporters are risking their lives to share the stories of these brave survivors. Here is a powerful example: Samir, Ilhan and their 1-year-old son fled Syria the night before ISIS overran their town. “I thought they would capture my wife and enslave her,” Samir said. “The helplessness makes you feel crazy.” They arrived in Kurdistan, where Samir found a construction job, but he developed tetanus after stepping on a nail. With extreme leg pain, he could no longer do manual labour, the only work available to refugees. Meanwhile, Ilhan had developed a typhoid infection she couldn’t afford to treat. Having no income, they worried about how they would survive. Fortunately, CBN was there, bringing them food and medicine. Since Ilhan had worked as a hairstylist in Syria, we bought her a chair and supplies to start a home salon! And a local church we partner with is sharing Christ’s love with this family. Ilhan says, “We appreciate all that you and the church have done. (...) We will never forget this!”
“WE APPRECIATE ALL THAT YOU AND THE CHURCH HAVE DONE.”
CBN partners are reaching out to so many others who are in crisis situations - both in the UK and worldwide - with food, medical care, disaster relief, job training, and more, while pointing millions to Christ every day through programmes like The 700 Club and Superbook. This ongoing support continues to bring hope to the hurting.

Mother and her son were living in an uninhabitable home until CBN stepped in.
RUNNING FOR HER LIFE Fled From Abuse and War
23-year-old Tanya grew up as an orphan in Ukraine, she knows the pain of abandonment. “Life was very hard. I had nothing and no one to love me. I don’t want such a life for my children,” she says. Tanya married young and had a son. She hoped for a better life, but then discovered her new husband was a violent alcoholic. Eventually, Tanya escaped from her abusive husband. With her small savings, she bought an old, run down house for her son and her new baby to come. She thought she was finally safe, then the Russian insurgents invaded her village and Tanya had to run for her life again. When she returned, her home was uninhabitable. “The roof was broken and the walls began falling down,” she explained. Tanya had no money R|12
to repair her home and no one would provide help. For several months, she wandered from neighbour to neighbour looking for shelter. “I asked God to provide us with the proper house so that we would no longer have to wander we are so tired from this,” she shares. The prayer of this weary mother was soon answered. A team from CBN’S Orphan’s Promise heard about Tanya and decided to rebuild her house. The renovation was complete just in time to welcome Tanya and her new baby home from the hospital. We also gave her a new pushchair and a cot. Tanya says, “I never imagined that anyone would ever help so much as you did. You changed my life a lot. Thank you for helping people like me.”

Rahul’s parents worried constantly about their young son. From the time he was a baby, Rahul had a whitecoloured patch in his eye. As he got older the patch grew, and became very painful and sensitive to sunlight.
When her husband died, the young widow struggled to support her three children. Zhyparkul loved to sew, but earned little money working 12-hour days in a sewing shop. “I feel sad that I don’t have the ability to take care of my children”, she said. Thanks to caring partners, CBN’s Orphan’s Promise fulfilled her dream and bought her a new sewing machine! Today, Zhyparkul runs a successful business from home.
But soon, the generosity of partners made it possible for a CBN medical camp to visit Rahul’s remote village in India. There, the doctors confirmed that the child had a severe cataract and would soon lose his vision. So they performed the surgery, free of charge, saving his eye. Today, his parents are thrilled that he can see so clearly, and his future is bright. His mother said, “He is so happy! It is such a remarkable change!”

OUR GREATEST ENEMY Christine McGivern| CBN UK Communication Team When we think about our world’s enemies, we think of groups like Boko Horam, ISIS, and Al Qaeda. Every day, the reports on TV and comments on our Facebook feeds seem to focus on some new controversy, another outburst of violence, or generally disrupting news of the atrocities these terrorist groups are committing. It’s easy for us to get upset, heartbroken and incredibly angry at these groups. R|14

“Our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.” Ephesians 6:12 NIV
How can men do this to each other? To children and women. To innocent people. How can humanity stoop so low? While these groups do mean us harm, they are not our greatest enemy. Ephesians 6:12 tells us, “...our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.” Our greatest enemy, Satan, seeks to
kill, steal, and destroy, but Jesus came to bring life to the fullest (John 10:10). Life to the fullest is found in loving others, not hating them. When we focus on hate, we lose an opportunity to show the love of Jesus to those who need it most. Paul describes the spiritual fight this way: “For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. The weapons we fight with are not the R|15

weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ” (2 Corinthians 10:35 NIV).
When Paul says “take every thought captive and make it obedient to Christ,” to respond to tragedy, injustice, or persecution with anger, and helplessness, we are to take those emotions and feelings, lay them before Jesus, and ask how He would like us to act.
“JUST LIKE THE MILITARY HAS A DUTY TO FIGHT OUR NATIONʼS BATTLES, WE ARE CALLED TO FIGHT SPIRITUAL BATTLES.”
Any time people are harmed and the innocent are taken advantage of, God notices and cares. What can we do from halfway around the world? Can we make any kind of difference? We can have confidence in our God as not only the just Judge and righteous Ruler of the earth but also the compassionate Creator and Father. Micah 6:8 says God wants people “to act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.” Christians are called to make a difference.
R|16
Just like the military has a duty to fight our nation’s battles, we are called to

fight spiritual battles. These fights are not won with guns or tanks. Spiritual battles require a different kind of weapon — love. Here are some ways to love those who hate us: Pray for them Jesus says, “love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you.” Prayer is a powerful weapon. It changes others, and it changes us. By praying for people who oppose us, we are reminded that the person is no different than we once were. He or she was made in God’s image and desperately needs a relationship with Him. Trust God to change their hearts The Gospel can solve the problem. When we submit our lives to Jesus, He changes hearts the same way God describes in Ezekiel 11: “I will give them an undivided heart and put a new spirit in them; I will remove from them their heart of stone and give them a heart of flesh” (Ezekiel 11:19). Only God can change hearts, and when He does, it creates a lasting change in behaviour. Expect God to move We can expect God to do what seems impossible, because Jesus promised us that, with God, all things are possible. God will make everything right in His time, and we can trust God to do what only He can do. We all have spiritual battles to fight today — co-workers who know how to bring out our worst, children who test our patience, spouses with animosity toward Jesus. The key to overcoming these challenges lies in remembering who the enemy is. Our greatest enemy is Satan, and we can fight back with
confidence knowing that Jesus has already won (1 Corinthians 15:54-57). Pray for world leaders They need God’s wisdom and discernment to make tough decisions that will affect millions of lives. Leaders and authority figures need understanding beyond themselves to navigate difficult situations. We can especially pray for them to make decisions that are both good for their own people and for all people (1 Timothy 2:1-4).
“SPIRITUAL BATTLES REQUIRE A DIFFERENT KIND OF WEAPON — LOVE.” We celebrate one who, despite being hated and despised by humanity, still loved humanity. They beat him and eventually killed him but He rose again declaring that love can never be defeated by darkness. Maybe temporarily it may feel like it can, but light destroys darkness 10 times out of 10 and love destroys hate every time. Today we must gather around love as the only response to such atrocities. Love has to be our heartbeat in times of such pain and uncertainty. Whatever you do tomorrow, if you choose love over hate then bit by bit you are driving out the hatred that can come to try and entangle us.

CHRISTY BEAM
Interview from The 700 Club and 700 Club Interactive
“IT WASNʼT ANYTHING WE HAD DONE WRONG, IT WAS ALL PART OF GODʼS PLAN.”
Annabel Beam spent most of her childhood in and out of hospitals with a rare and incurable digestive disorder that prevented her from ever living a normal, healthy life. One sunny day when she was able to go outside and play with her sisters, she fell three stories headfirst inside an old, hollowed-out tree, a fall that may well have caused death or paralysis. Implausibly, she survived without a scratch. While unconscious inside the tree, with rescue workers struggling to get to her, she visited heaven. After being released from the hospital, she defied science and was inexplicably cured of her chronic ailment. Her mother, Christy Beam, tells the whole story on the book “Miracles of Heaven”, recently adapted as a film. Underneath all of this, it seems to be an absolute miracle of healing. How was it like for you to have your daughter come to you and say “Mum the pain is so bad, I want to die. I don’t want this anymore”? I will never forget that day. Ever. I will never forget Annabel saying those words to me. We were in the hospital when it happened. I just crawled in bed with her R|18
INTERVIEW |
and just wrapped my arms around her and we both cried. What else do you do when your baby wants to die? You just love them. And I prayed. Did you get mad at God? Have you ever thought what did you do to deserve this? I asked all those questions. Why Anna? Why us? Why me? What have we done? And what can we do to fix it? If I have done something wrong, then I will do it right. You begin to get to a place where you almost don’t bargain with God, but you say whatever I have done wrong tell me and I will make it right. Your child’s suffering is probably the worst thing you can endure. Eventually, we got many answers. It wasn’t anything we had done wrong, it was all part of God’s plan. When did you find out that she had had an encounter with Jesus? The next day when we got out of the hospital, we were driving and she just turned to me and said “You know mummy, I went to heaven when I was in the tree.” And I wish I had said something brillant and profound, all I said was “Really?” But she was so articulate about things that Annabel would not have known. The things she said and the way she said them. She shared a fair amount that day, but as the days passed she would just come and give me tit-bits. I would write them down everywhere I could, on a napkin, on my phone. I began to compile all of the memories she shared. She lived it, there was no denying she lived the story she was sharing.
“NOW I LOOK AROUND, WHERE ARE YOU GOING TO BE FAITHFUL TODAY, GOD?”
What do you hope people get from the book and the film? There is such a message of hope and encouragement. I feel like if people can walk away with new lenses in their eyes to see things differently, that God has a plan. That things may not always be perfect - we will always have struggles but it is in His control. Do you approach struggles with a different view now? I do, and I also learnt not to look down, like I did before. Now I look around, where are you going to be faithful today, God? What miracles are you going to perform in my life? Because they are there and I don’t want to miss them. R|19

Faithful fans Rev. Martin and Maddy Dale.
The UK Superbook team visited Norfolk at the beginning of June and had a fantastic time introducing Gizmo to children in two schools there. Faithful fans Rev. Martin and Maddy Dale have been taking Superbook into their local primary schools, leading assemblies and running an afterschool club, which is attended by 30 children each week. Our team held assemblies for children from Reception to Year 6, and taught them about David and Goliath, from the episode ‘A Giant Adventure’. We played games, taught the Salvation Poem dance, and prayed with the children and offered them the chance to ask Jesus into their hearts. It is an incredible privilege to be able to go into schools and share our faith; our American counterparts are not able to do so with such freedom. Is there a school near you that could use Superbook? Could you speak up in boldness of faith and see what God will do? Please prayerfully consider this and get in touch by emailing info@superbook.org.uk.

A STEP OF FAITH What does it look like to take a step of faith? Faith always requires an action. Sometimes that looks like handing a troubling situation over to God. Other times, it looks like making a bold move by the leading of the Holy Spirit. Whatever form it takes, faith delights the heart of God. In fact, Scripture goes so far to say that we cannot please God if we do not have faith. Faith is like a bridge that connects our present earthly circumstances to heavenly encounters and breakthroughs. Trust in Him today. Take a step of faith! He will work all things for the good of those who love Him and are called according to His purpose. Do you need prayer?
