COURAGEOUS FAITH The theme of this issue is ‘Courageous Faith’. When thinking about this theme, the Lord put on my heart the story of Ruth. Her life story began in Moab where she married at a young age. They moved to Moab as there was a famine in the land of Judah. Then, both Ruth’s husband and his brother tragically died, leaving Ruth and Orphah as widows. Ruth’s motherin-law, Naomi, also a widow, was the only one of the original family still alive. Having lost her husband and her two sons, Naomi decided to return to Judah, as the famine was over and urged Ruth and Orphah to return to their families in Moab. Orphah decide to follow Naomi’s advice, but Ruth took a courageous decision, “but Ruth replied, “Don’t ask me to leave you and turn back. Wherever you go, I will go; wherever you live, I will live. Your people will be my people, and your God will be my God.” Ruth 1:16. This was not an easy decision. I am sure that she would have considered Naomi’s advice and the idea to return to her family in Moab and familiar territory. Yet, she left everything behind to lead a new life in a land where she knew she would be a stranger. She decided to trust Naomi’s God, the God of Israel as her own God, trusting that He would provide. Are you in a Ruth situation right now? Are you at crossroads in your life in one way or another? If that is you, be encouraged as the God whom Ruth put her faith in, is the very same God today. He will provide you with the direction and provision you need, and lead you to the field of Boaz, who is a picture of Jesus. Ruth saw restoration after demonstrating courageous faith. Trust Him – He will do the same for you! R|03

BLOOM |

God has called us into all the world - to every nation, culture and language. As His children, this is our inheritance. The Lord shows us fruitful fields where He wants us to go, whether it is over the ocean or across the street. He also shows us the best ways to farm those fields. As we seek Him, God will provide the resources and techniques to impact a generation. However, don’t let negative self-talk defeat you. When the Israelites were afraid to take the Promised Land, Joshua said: “Only do not rebel against the Lord, nor fear the people of the land, for they are our bread;...and the Lord is with us” (Numbers 14:9). Joshua was encouraging the people to act on the promises of God. The Lord tells us, “I speak, and the word which I speak will come to pass” (Ezekiel 12:25). All we have to do is agree with His word. Paul writes in 2 Thessalonians 1:11, therefore we also pray always for you that our God would count you worthy of this calling. We are not worthy of God’s blessings, but He makes us worthy! That was decided on the cross. The verse continues, and fulfill all the good pleasure of His goodness and the work of faith with power. God’s good pleasure is to accomplish His plan through us, and He equips us to do the work of faith with power. As Ephesians 3:20 says, He ... is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us.

We can achieve breakthroughs when we spend time in prayer, praise and worship, focusing on His goodness. Jesus promises in John 7:37-38: “If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink. He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.”

“GODʼS GOOD PLEASURE IS TO ACCOMPLISH HIS PLAN THROUGH US, AND HE EQUIPS US TO DO THE WORK OF FAITH WITH POWER.” So what is God telling you to do? Pray in the Spirit to receive His word, then expect Him to act. We want to be not only hearers but also doers of His word. So let’s go into all the fullness and goodness that He has for us - mighty works of faith and power - for He is the God of breakthroughs. And Jesus assures us, “Do not fear, little flock, for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom” (Luke 12:32). God bless you. R|05

RISKY FAITH

Believing No Matter What ‘And it is impossible to please God without faith.’ Hebrews 11 v 6 NLT The tricky thing with faith is that it’s risky. When you believe for things - for breakthrough in a certain area of your life perhaps - the cold, hard fact is that you may not get what you seek. Here lies the risk. You might be disappointed. You might feel let down. You might get hurt. Think about the woman who had the issue of blood (see Luke 8 v 43-48). For twelve years this woman had suffered with constant bleeding with no cure. She had had enough. After twelve years of bleeding and seeing doctor after doctor, spending all her money on trying to get well, she wanted to see results. This woman was a woman of risky faith. She heard that Jesus was passing by and so she pushed her way through the crowds (which would have been significant) and reached out and touched the hem of Jesus’ robe. Immediately she was healed. Immediately the bleeding stopped. It was a miracle. Breakthrough. R|08

Imagine if this woman had not had the faith to believe that Jesus could heal her. Imagine if the disappointment and the delay that she had experienced over the twelve years of infirmity had beaten her down so much that she stopped trying. Stopped believing. But faith urged her on. The Bible explains it this way: ‘Faith is the confidence that what we hope for will actually happen; it gives us assurance about things we cannot see.’ It even says in the Bible that at the end of it all, only three things will remain: FAITH, hope and love (see 1 Corinthians 13 v 13). Do you believe that God has the power to change your circumstances? Do you believe that He is for you? My prayer is that we will all have the faith of the woman with the issue of blood. That when we feel disappointed or let down or are tired of the delay, we will reach out one more time and believe. It is impossible to please God without faith so lets be a people who amaze God, not with our lack of faith, but with our abundance of it.

CBN STORIES |

FIGHTING CANCER It had been six years since Jordan Lawhead had surgery to remove the malignant melanoma on his neck. At 23, he learned the cancer had returned. Doctor’s felt Jordan’s only hope was a drug, that when used, could be fatal. One night at the hospital, as Jordan lay in bed awake and his Father was sleeping in the same room he says “I looked up and I said to God, I don’t really feel like you love me, at that moment I had to sit up; I had to wake my dad and say ‘Get the bucket’. I lay back and at that moment, while he was wiping my face and chin, I opened my eyes and realised that the love of God isn’t just a fuzzy feeling from the sky, but it’s as real as the people in our lives, those meeting us in the darkest places. A bucket held out for you, sick being cleaned from your mouth, someone saying ‘I am here for you’. It’s that place, that moment, those hands, that heart, that messiness, that love. It has to come from somewhere.”

“ IT TAUGHT ME TO SEE HIM AS HE IS AND AS I AM. THAT IʼM NOT IN CONTROL. THAT HE IS.”

Jordan and his parents had been fervently praying for his recovery. “I had so many people praying for me,” Jordan said. Then, the tumors began to shrink after the first treatment, taking Jordan out of immediate danger. “It was a confirmed, complete response to the drug, to the power of God intervening by all the people praying,” Jordan said. It’s been eight years since Jordan was given six months to live. With only 2% recovery rate for these cases, his doctor says Jordan beat the odds. Today, Jordan is a songwriter and musician and runs YouInspire.org, a website to encourage others who are facing similar trials. But most of all, he is grateful to a God of mercy who can be trusted.

INTO ALL THE WORLD

CBN Partners Minister to The Nations From CBN’s early years, Pat Robertson saw the potential to use TV and satellite broadcasting to bring the Gospel to the world’s unreached people, and demonstrate God’s love through compassionate aid. It was a revolutionary way to help fulfill Jesus’ command, Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation (Mark 16:15 NIV).

These indigenous teams create and broadcast powerful biblical programs, and offer crucial humanitarian aid. Projects include feeding the poor, drilling wells, providing life-changing surgeries, offering disaster relief, caring for orphans, microenterprise efforts, and more. And it’s transforming millions of lives, both now and for eternity.

In the same way Jesus launched the apostles to plant churches in other nations, CBN has launched directors and teams outside the United States, establishing offices and studios in Canada, Africa, Asia, Europe, Latin America, the CIS, and the Middle East.

In 1994, Gordon Robertson was there when CBN Asia was launched in the Philippines. The response was absolutely amazing! Gordon was in awe, and it changed his life forever.

his law practice in Virginia that year and moved to the Philippines, saying, “God showed me in a dream that I needed to train missionaries.” Soon after Gordon’s arrival, CBN Asia tried a bold experiment. They switched from a 20-year-old practice of using overdubbed programs, produced in Virginia Beach, to creating their own original broadcasts. “Filipinos were producing it; they were coming up with the ideas. It was all done in Tagalog [the dominant language], and all produced in Manila and suddenly, it was theirs. It wasn’t some foreign program,” Gordon explained. “It was about what Jesus was doing in their country today, not some faraway place.” The result? “Our ratings went through the roof,” Gordon said. “So it became the model for everything we do around the world... Every country needs their own CBN.” The vision was now to replicate CBN’s ministry in each country, and train Christians to share the Gospel where they lived - through TV, Internet, and major relief efforts. It brought CBN’s international ministry to a new level.

“GO INTO ALL THE WORLD AND PREACH THE GOSPEL TO ALL CREATION.”

Just as the Apostle Paul prayed thankfully for his supporters in Philippians 1:5 (NLT), saying, for you have been my partners in spreading the Good News about Christ, we at CBN are grateful for your generous partnership in bringing Jesus’ love to the lost and hurting.

Thank you CBN Partners!

CBN partners provided care for little boy.

A BETTER LIFE

Daycare for Little Boy Each morning, Ababalwe prays with his classmates at this Orphan’s Promise sponsored daycare centre. He thanks God for friends. Just a few months ago, he didn’t really have any friends. “Every day when he saw the other children go to daycare he would ask, ‘Mommy, why can’t I go?’ It broke my heart to tell him I didn’t have enough money for it,” his mother told us. “He was so lonely.” Ababalwe’s father abandoned him and his mother when he was just six months old. When his mother couldn’t find work, she begged the neighbours for some porridge. “I felt embarrassed,” she told us. “I knew they didn’t even have enough R|12

food for themselves. At times like that, I felt like God didn’t exist.” Then, a local church found out about the family’s situation and invited Ababalwe to join their daycare centre. He gets two meals a day and a good education in a safe environment. Today, Ababalwe and 23 other kids are sponsored by CBN’s Orphan’s Promise to come to this centre for free. Since she had more time to look for work, Sinki found a new job and now has a steady income. These days, people come to her and ask for food, and she always gives it to them. “Now I know God exists,” said Sinki. “Everything has changed because of you. Thank you CBN!”

THROUGH YOUR SUPPORT: #Germany A grateful viewer wrote, “Whenever possible, I watch Club 700. Thank you for allowing God to use you to be His hands in places of great need. May the Lord continue to bless this ministry, and may He provide the needed finances and strength for the work you are doing, to bring the salvation message to the world.”

#Guatemala Nine-year old Luis and his little sister, Ingrid, would drink 12 glasses of water a day to keep from getting hungry. He said, “It didn’t take the hunger away.” Abandoned by her husband, mother Gregoria struggled to find work where they lived in Guatemala. Sometimes she was unemployed for months. Luis often went to school without breakfast, watched classmates eat their lunches, and fainted once from malnutrition. Thanks to generous partners, CBN’s Operation Blessing helped this family by setting up a convenience store at their home where Gregoria can work and stay near the children. Today, Luis and his sister have enough food, and new shoes.

#India Vanitha was left destitute in India, with her little boy Adithya. She had to borrow a sewing machine and tailor clothes to earn an income. They had little. “I usually don’t have anything to eat,” Adithya expressed. “I don’t have any toys...” With no livelihood, she prayed with a pastor and something amazing happened. Thanks to generous partners, CBN drilled a well in Vanitha’s village and gave her a sewing machine, as well as toys for Adithya! Vanitha can now provide for her son. She says, “Thank you so much!” R|13

ACT IN FAITH Paula Marrett | CBN UK Communication Team It always amazes me thinking how big our God is. The creator of everything I see and the things I can’t. Just think for a minute. He created the microscopic beings that are all around and the planets far away in other galaxies. He was the one who determined how the rain would fall and how the sun would shine on R|14

own house here on earth. And this is amazing. When I think about this incredible gift God has given us it compels me to act. Act in faith.

It is even more incredible trying to understand who we are in Him. This big, awesome God chose to create us to reflect who He is, and when we failed He came up with a plan to help us live even closer to His glory. Jesus is the reason, we are now holders of the presence of God, we are His

I love reading the Bible and all the different stories, to see God interacting with His people and how their faith brought them so close to seeing and understanding Him. However, every time I read a story, I think about mine - my story with God. How is my faith helping me to see more of Him? And to R|15

“Every time I read a story, I think about mine - my story with God.”

see more of Him? And to see His glory being brought to people through me?

“WE ARE NOW HOLDERS OF THE PRESENCE OF GOD, WE ARE HIS OWN HOUSE HERE ON EARTH.” There is a time in Jesus’ ministry when his disciples were trying to free people from evil spirits. The disciples struggled, and couldn’t free these people. When they asked Jesus why not, He replied: “Because you have so little faith. I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you,” Mathew 17:20. R|16

This is a reminder that when we have a greater faith in God, we can see Him move immeasurably more than we can even imagine. Think about David’s story. As a young man he knew that through God he was able to fight an enormous, very strong soldier no one else could defeat. His faith led him to volunteer to do what, in their human eyes, no one could. Our faith should drive us to act. It reminds me of the story of Heidi Baker, the missionary who founded the Iris Global ministry. She has been interviewed many times on The 700 Club. She was 16 when she had a vision and heard the Lord tell her to be a minister and missionary to Africa, Asia and England. Together with her husband, she left with simple instructions from the Lord, one way tickets and thirty dollars in their pockets. They spent 12 years in Asia, 3 years in England and more than

30 years and counting in Africa, and are seeing thousands coming to Jesus. God may not be calling you to become a missionary in another nation, but He is calling you to act in faith. What are the situations in your life or in the lives of people around you where God’s love and power can be brought into action? Divorce. Illness. Loss. Fear. It’s all around us. We live in a fallen world in desperate need of God, we just need to open our eyes to see different opportunities for us to act in our faith. Jesus said in John 14:12-14: “Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father. And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it.” God wants to use us to bring the joy and freedom Jesus gave. The same power that healed the sick and multiplied the bread and fish lives in us. He wants us to have the courage to act in faith, declaring He is bigger than our human struggles and more than capable to fulfil our needs.

“OUR FAITH DOESNʼT HAVE TO BE PERFECT OR FEEL MASSIVE, BUT IT NEEDS TO BE PRESENT.”

Our faith doesn’t have to be perfect or feel massive, but it needs to be present. If you read the Psalms you will find many times David was worried, troubled, and facing struggles; yet he kept his eyes focused on God, and His promises not on the circumstances. He was sure that, through the unfailing love of the Most High he will not be shaken, Psalms 21:7. Today, I want to encourage you to believe. Have confidence that the creator of the universe can and wants to use you in a powerful way, to change situations and bring back to life what was dead. When you feel led by God to talk, talk! When you feel led by God to pray, pray! When you feel led by God to go, go! Just act in your faith and let God move through you. Remember who He is and who you are in Him. Heidi Baker

CHAD VEACH

Interview from The 700 Club

“I DIDNʼT REALISE OTHER PEOPLE WERE IN PAIN UNTIL I HAD PAIN.”

Chad Veach is the Pastor of Zoe Church in Los Angeles, California. He remembers April 10 of 2012 as if it were yesterday. He and his wife, Julia, refers it to it as ‘Diagnosis Day’, the day they were told their 4-month-old daughter Georgia would never develop past 3 months - she would never walk or talk. However, they chose to hold on to hope, and they share their journey on the book ‘Unreasonable Hope’. Take us through ‘Diagnosis Day’ and how this was like for you and Julia: Well, Georgia was our first born so for us there wasn’t anything wrong, my mum was the one who noticed something and she thought we should check it out. I thought something was wrong with her eyes, I thought maybe they will correct - put a patch over it. We never expected them to say, “Your daughter’s brain didn’t form”. Lissencephaly, this word - I’ve never heard of it. ‘Diagnosis Day’ is a day I will never forget. It’s been four years. I will never forget the feeling of asking God “What am I going to do as a father? How do we face it?” Right from the beginning, we had to make a decision: We are going to put our trust in God. We’re going to take all of this pain and we’re going to praise God through it, we’re going to find hope through it. Hope sometimes can be elusive, it can be a second cousin of faith...I find hope to be this confident expectation not that my daughter would be healed alone, but I have hope in a better place - Heaven, I have hope in a person - Jesus, and it’s why, I think, the BIble says that hope can’t R|18

INTERVIEW |

disappoint us. How has this changed the way you see other people? I didn’t realise other people were in pain until I had pain. And once we faced this, my eyes were opened, I started to look around and think “People are suffering.” It changes your sense of compassion, sympathy, empathy, your relatability. It changes you on the inside. I wouldn’t trade this for anything. It made us better people.

“HOW ARE WE GOING TO ALLOW GOD TO TAKE THIS PAIN AND TURN AROUND TO PURPOSE?”

Talk to us about ‘Seizure Day’, because that’s what started to change your life: We had to continually face our storm. The seizure started to come - ten, some days up to 50 seizures in one day. We had to realise life is not going to be normal for us all the time. We’re going to have to learn to combat this, and smile through this and help her. How did you do this? It so easy to quote scriptures about faith but when you are in the storm, that is another story. I think the first thing we had to do was say ‘Hey, the struggle is real”. I don’t think God can’t work with the fake us, I think He wants to work with the real us. God desires truth in our innermost part, so we have to be honest: This is frustrating, this hurts, this is not easy. You also had to work out how you as a couple would be able to handle this. What I’ve learned throughout this is that God is honest. He loves our honesty. He embraces it. He has room for it. He is not intimitated by it. And

Julia and I have learned to be honest with each other and to be honest with God. And that brings a peace in itself. I don’t want to just quote a bunch of scriptures or motivational quotes for social media, I’ve got to be honest with how I feel, because then I can really resolve it in my heart, even though I feel this way, I know the truth - God is real. He is here even though I can’t see Him, and He didn’t cause this. I don’t believe sickness is from God. We live in a fallen world, these things happen, and that’s why we wrote the book. A sick daughter can happen, a divorce can happen. These things happen. How are we going to overcome? How are we going to allow God to take this pain and turn it around to a purpose? R|19

DAVID AND SAUL

In this new Superbook episode, Chris vows to take revenge on some teenagers that have done something bad to him. To teach Chris about how to react when angry, Superbook whisks the trio off to meet David. David has become a great warrior and foe to an angry and jealous King Saul. David had more than one opportunity to repay Saul for his evil deeds. Saul had even tried to kill him more than once! Yet, when David’s chance for revenge came, he chose to leave judgment in God’s hands. David said, “May the LORD judge between us. Perhaps the LORD will punish you for what you are trying to do to me, but I will never harm you.” (1 Samuel 24:12). Saul was amazed. “And he said to David, “You are a better man than I am, for you have repaid me good for evil.” (1 Samuel 24:17). David had great respect and honour for King Saul because God’s anointing was on him. God does not want us to repay evil with good. In fact, we are to do the opposite! After seeing David’s act of mercy, Chris decides against vengeance, and leaves judgement to God. As 1 Peter 3:9 says, “don’t repay evil for evil. Don’t retaliate with insults when people insult you. Instead, pay them back with a blessing. That is what God has called you to do, and he will bless you for it.” Order your copy at www.superbook.tv or call 0800 6520 5095 (UK). R|21

TRUE LOVE EXCELS Love is both a feeling and an unchanging reality. It can be pretty, yet sacrificial. It can be spoken, and it can be shown through action. It’s easy to accept the initial sense of love - the fuzzy feelings and lovely words. Real love does not stop there, though. True love excels in the valley as well as the mountain top. It never ever fails. Real love is Jesus. No human could ever replicate His untainted love on their own. Nevertheless, the charge to love others as Christ loved us is still given. The best way to start showing God’s love to others is by first receiving the Father’s love into your own heart. Open your hands, look towards heaven, and receive His love. As you do this, the overflow will pour out onto the lives of those around you. Do you need prayer?
