Perfect Unity
WE RECOMMEND
Throughout the Bible there are numerous scriptures that speak about unity. However unity doesn’t occur naturally, it requires a willingness to yield and an openness to set aside our own desires and opinions for the common good. Ephesians 4:3 says “make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace.” This scripture clearly explains that in order to keep the unity of the spirit it requires effort. Unity is worth pursuing and fighting for. The Amplified Bible expands it further “be eager and strive earnestly to guard and keep the harmony and oneness of (and produced by) the Spirit in the binding power of peace.” There will always be those within our world who will seek to sow discord and disunity, however true unity can only be found by surrendering to the work of the Holy Spirit. The more willing and obedient we are, will determine the degree to which we are able to walk in unity and continue to do so. Colossians 3:14 says “and over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.” God’s love is the ingredient that binds and keeps everything together in perfect harmony and unity. It is only when individual musicians in an orchestra come together under the direction of a conductor, that the sound of complete harmony and unity can be achieved. As you read through the latest addition of our magazine I hope you will be inspired to gain a greater understanding of the ministry of CBN Europe. Can I encourage you to visit our website and please call our UK Prayer Line. We would love the opportunity to pray with you and for you. Thank you and every blessing. Allen Carter, CBN UK Prayer Centre & Office Coordinator

What are you facing today? Maybe you are struggling through a rocky marriage or recovering from a difficult season. Life brings challenges. It’s a fact, but a fact even greater than that challenge, and a reality immeasurably more real than your adversity, is the faithfulness of God in your life. Our God is a loving Father and when you cry out for help, He hears you and He responds. He can’t help but act on your behalf. It might not be in the timing you want and His provision does not always come packaged the way we imagine, but our heavenly Father’s provision is a promise we can cling to as His kids. Be encouraged. In every season, your Dad is faithful and He is looking out for your best. Set your gaze on Him, and let Him speak His words of life into your heart. Do you need prayer? Our Prayer Centre team is here to pray for you. We are open Monday to Saturday from 8am to 8pm and Saturday from 7:30 am to 12:30pm. Call 0300 561 0700 (UK) or +44 207 101 7045 (Europe).

CBN Partners Stand With Israel Seeing prophecy fullfiled in the Holy Land In ancient Bible times, God made a promise to Abraham and his descendants: “I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you.” Genesis 12:3. Yet, less than 150 years ago, it was hard to imagine the Jewish people and the land of Israel could ever again have such a powerful global impact.
God has made a promise to the nation of Israel
Despite overwhelming odds, modernday Israel has become a blessing to the nations—leading the world in ground-breaking technology and solutions. CBN’s CEO Gordon Robertson observes, “Out of rocky soil, out of swamps, and even out of deserts, Israelis have created gardens, vineyards and farms, with some of the most innovative techniques in the
world.” In fact, even as Pat Robertson founded CBN and watched prophecy unfold in the Middle East, he remembers, “Somehow, I knew that the future of CBN was intertwined with the destiny of the nation of Israel…” It began with the Six Day War breaking out at the moment CBN began construction on

its studio headquarters June 5, 1967. It was sealed in his heart on Christmas Day 1974, while interviewing Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin in Israel. Moved by this tiny nation facing worldwide opposition, Pat vowed to the Lord that no matter the consequences, “I, personally, and those organizations I was in charge of, would stand for Israel, and we have not deviated.” Thanks to faithful partners, CBN has stood with the Holy Land through wars and terrorism, providing humanitarian aid in times of emergencies—such as portable bomb shelters for vulnerable neighbourhoods near the Gaza border, so that schoolchildren waiting for buses are protected in the event of a sudden attack. CBN News’ Jerusalem bureau provides on-the-scene reporting on Middle East issues and events. We are also forging strong alliances with lifechanging, Israeli-based agencies to reach the world’s suffering.
Alleviating suffering worldwide One example is CBN’s partnership with the organization IsraAid, which has sent Israeli medical professionals to save lives and treat survivors of worldwide catastrophes—including the

Nepal, Japan and Haiti earthquakes, the Myanmar cyclone and typhoons in the Philippines. Thanks to this connection, CBN and Operation Blessing International have been able to respond immediately to hurting disaster victims. You are also there in many ways for Israel’s most vulnerable—helping children, the poor, those caught in the crossfire when missiles fall, as well as elderly Jewish Holocaust survivors like Sophia. She escaped Kiev as Nazi warplanes destroyed the city, and years after the war, made her home in Israel. After a recent cancer surgery, she lost nearly 50 pounds, and her arm was extremely enlarged and painful. CBN’s Operation Blessing came to her aid by providing a machine to treat her arm at home, and bringing her prescribed food to regain weight. She exclaims, “I’m not alone anymore… it’s a miracle!” Bringing hope at home and beyond, your gifts are also reaching out to the hurting throughout the world, while broadcasting the Good News and offering hope daily to millions.

Flor de Maria and her family live in a poor, remote area and used an open well that was contaminated. The family suffered with malaria, diarrhea and their two young children had high fevers. We thank God for this blessing.”

For Miracles
CBN partners help a family and a village The long, daily trek for water over India’s steep, jagged rocks left Madhubala bedridden with painful knees. Now her husband Balavanth had to care of the family. The children were often late for school after getting water and Balavanth was often late for work. However life changed when a visiting pastor shared the Gospel, advising them, “Pray to Jesus, and your problems will be solved.” They decided to try it. Suddenly, Madhubala felt better and could walk again. Encouraged, they prayed for a closer water source. Soon after, CBN’s team drilled a well in their village, helping nearly 150 families! The family then began attending church, and received Christ! Balavanth is grateful, saying, “Our faith in Jesus Christ made all of this

Urai is happy to be back to work again
Grandma Urai came running, after her neighbour told her about a crying baby in the street! It was her grandson, Kob, sitting in the dirt, his legs covered with ant bites. His mother had abandoned him. “He was crying and trying to get away from the ants,” said Grandma Urai. “I picked him up and comforted him. It broke my heart to see him that way.” Kob’s mother never returned. So Grandma Urai and her husband Kaew raised Kob as best they could, until grandpa suffered a stroke. Grandma Urai had to start supporting the family. She had a small market stall with a leaky roof. “I felt so tired and alone. I didn’t have
the money fix the stall. I had to borrow money from our relatives just to buy food,” she said. CBN’s Orphan’s Promise helped Grandma Urai support her family. First, we built her a new stand in a safe location. Then we set it up with lots of groceries, along with a stove, kitchen utensils, and a cooler so she can prepare meals to sell. Grandpa’s condition has improved so much that he’s now helping at the store too! “Since Orphan’s Promise helped us, we have been earning six times more than I used to make! Business is so good that sometimes we run out of things to sell!” said Grandma Urai with a big smile. “Thank you, Orphan’s Promise!” added Kob.

Expovida Kids
SUPERBOOK
This last September, CBN Europe was part of Expovida London, a bilingual (Spanish and English) conference that aims to bring churches together to worship, and training for Evangelism and Discipleship of the nations. On the second day of the conference, our Superbook team ministered to children up to 11 years old at Expovida Kids, a time of teaching and worship designed specifically for the children whose parents were attending the conference. During their time with the Superbook team, the children watched ‘Roar’, the story of Daniel at the lion’s den and learned about the importance of prayer. They also played games about the story and the Bible, the winners had a big prize that included a Superbook t-shirt and different Superbook DVDs. It was a great time interacting with the children and teaching them about God. The Superbook team also suprised everyone with a very special guest: Gizmo! He danced and engaged with the kids who smiled and laughed with our favourite robot. Would you like to help us reach out to children through the Superbook Bible stories? Unity That
Reveals God’s Glory All people will declare: The Lord is One Just before Jesus went to the Garden of Gethsemane, He celebrated the Passover with His disciples. He ended the Last Supper with this wonderful prayer for them, and for us: “I do not pray for these alone, but also for those who will believe in Me through their word; that they all may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us, that the world may believe that You sent Me” (John 17:20-21). Just as Jesus and the Father are one, He prayed that we would be one. The Shema, the main statement of the Jewish faith, begins in Deuteronomy 6:4: “Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one!” Zechariah’s end-time prophecy describes how Jews and Gentiles will come to Zion together: The Lord shall be King over all the earth. In that day it shall be: “The Lord is one, and His Name one” (Zechariah 14:9). In that day He will be Lord over all the earth. He will be King, and all people will declare the Shema: “The Lord is one.” That will be our declaration at the end of time. This is what Jesus is talking about in John 17. He is praying it at present reality for His followers, and He is
14 www.cbneurope.com
also declaring that it will happen at His Second Coming, when the people declare, “You are one.” The Shema continues in Deuteronomy 6:5: “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul and with all your strength.” We hear Jesus say this when answering a question about which commandment is the greatest: “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and great commandment (Matthew 22:37-38). He adds, “The second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbour as yourself” (v. 39). The key to unity is the degree of our love, when we actually obey that commandment and truly love Him with all our heart, soul and strength, our entire focus is on Him. We trust Him with our problems as we seek His Kingdom and His dominion, and we submit entirely to Him. That is when we achieve the unity that glorifies Him. God bless you.
Gordon Robertson, Chief Executive Officer of CBN.

Pray for us Here at the CBN UK Prayer Centre, we pray daily for the needs of our partners and ask our Heavenly Father to pour out His blessings upon their lives. God is calling us to be a people of prayer and “through prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let our requests be made known to God”, according to Philippians 4:6. As CBN is daily on the front-lines of sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ around the world, we really need your prayers too! Below are some current topics you could join with us in prayer for. Thank you for standing with us!
Let us pray for unity in our families and our churches so that the world will recognise Jesus Christ through us, shining bright as a city on a hill.

Unity Can
Change The World
The world recognizes that unity underpins peace and prosperity and this was the driving force behind the formation of League of Nations nearly a hundred years ago and then more recently the UN, the EU and NATO. Instinctively people know that for there to be peace, mankind has to be unified. Without even acknowledging God, they know the truth of the scripture “How good and pleasant it is when brothers dwell in unity, for there the Lord commanded the blessing, even life for evermore” (Ps 133: 1,3). However, as can be seen from the chaos and warfare that ravages the world, this man-made attempt to bring peace always fails. Enforcing unity from above without changing the hearts and minds of people will not work. The fallen nature of mankind means that greed and selfishness always rise up, so that the strong will dominate the
18 www.cbneurope.com
weak for their own advantage. There really is no peace for the wicked. Within the life of the church we so often mirror the world. History and our own experience show us that all too easily we fall out with each other, people get hurt, relationships are broken and we become even more fragmented. The world just looks at us and laughs and our witness is completely undermined, and even’ though we know Psalm 133 to be true and of the blessings that are promised when we live in unity, there still doesn’t seem to be enough motivation for us to be ‘‘eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace”(Eph 4:3). Before we throw in the towel, I think we should be encouraged that at least this is not a new phenomenon. The church from it’s earliest days struggled with factions and squabbling, people
identifying themselves with this or that strong leader, rather than simply following Jesus. This is shown so clearly in the content of many of Pauls’ letters to the rapidly growing ‘successful’ churches, which were springing up all over the ancient world. A church may be preaching the Gospel, seeing the Holy Spirit move in power, but be lacking the most important glue to hold it all together.
don’t know Him. Living in unity should be a by-product of our living together in love.
How can we do this, we are all individuals, each with our own preferences, tastes and beliefs, having experienced God’s grace in individual ways. It is all too easy for pride to raise its head, leading us to believe our way is best or even the only way. I am not talking about the basic unchangeable doctrine as set out in the creeds, but the arguments that often happen when we confuse these with our preferences and practices, some based in long traditions, but not things which are necessary for salvation. We could all too often, be easily identified with the Philippian church, “For they all seek after their own interests, not those of Christ Jesus” (Phil 2:21).
Many people will only learn of what God is like, by the way His people behave. If the Gospel is going to penetrate the hard ground we live in, we have to demonstrate in real life, that unity driven by love actually works. It is not just an optional extra, but of vital importance. Our living together as the body of Christ, is the physical expression to the world of God’s love and character. Jesus said “If you love one another then everyone will know that you are my disciples” (emphasis mine).
Paul’s answer to the Corinthian church was to put love as the foundation behind everything and his command to the Ephesians, so that they would remain unified was to live “with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love”(Eph 4:2). As we deal with each other with forgiveness and long-suffering, those outside the church will see that we are different, that a miracle has taken place in our lives. Last month I talked about us being God’s representatives on earth, displaying his character to those who
The importance Jesus placed on unity can be seen in his final prayer time, recorded in John 17. He prayed four times that His disciples would be one, so that the world may believe that the Father sent Jesus and loves us, just as the Father loved Jesus (John 17:21,23).
“Our living together as the body of Christ, is the physical expression to the world of God’s love and character.” What if we could live together, with noone seeking “his own good, but that of his neighbour” (1 Cor 10:24). If we could live humbly, showing each other forgiveness, putting others first. People will be changed, society altered and the kingdom grown. The rewards, not just for us, are enormous! Living in love driven unity could change the world. John Bezant works at CBN Europe in the Prayer Centre.
