OUR MESSAGE |
A BIG THANK YOU Ian Walton Director, CBN Southern Africa
Dear Partners It’s nearly Christmas time and once again we get to celebrate the arrival of Jesus Christ, Emmanuel, God with us. Despite the commercial side of Christmas, around the world it remains a very opportunistic time for God’s Spirit to move powerfully in people’s lives. And for us here in SA, isn’t it great getting to swim and braai in the sunshine with loved ones while we celebrate the birth of our Saviour? This is the perfect opportunity for me to express a very sincere THANK YOU to you as one of our CBN partners here in Southern Africa. Every time our staff gather in prayer, we are grateful to God for how He continues to enable and expand our ministry by stirring hearts across this region to give so generously despite the economic situation we all find ourselves in. By partnering with CBN this year, you helped to reach millions of people across the world with the Gospel. You have enabled the sharing of the redemptive Truth of Jesus through TV, Digital Media, Superbook, Prayer support and restorative Humanitarian projects of various kinds. Through your faithful support, you are sharing and demonstrating the Gospel in homes and communities all across this vast region. In this edition of Frontlines we bring you some exciting news of those projects, as well as a few testimonies from the ministry in our region. We also include a new schedule of CBN broadcasts in South Africa and a great teaching by our CEO, Gordon Robertson reminding us of the true meaning of Christmas. We would count it a great privilege to pray with you – about anyone or anything. Call us at +2721 701 1776, email us at prayer@cbnsa.org or WhatsApp us at +2771 763 3810. From me and the rest of the (growing) CBN SA team here in Cape Town - a very special and meaningful Christmas to you and your family! Yours in this life-giving mission, Ian CBN AFRICA | 01

A GIFT THAT
OVERCOMES THE WORLD By Gordon Robertson If we believe, we will see the glory of God
CBN AFRICA | 02
TEACHING |
This Christmas season, let’s ask God for the gift of faith - that we may grasp the exceeding greatness of His power toward us who believe (Ephesians 1:19). We want to attain everything God has prepared for us, all for His glory. There is literally no end to the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen (Hebrews 11:1). When we pray in faith, we hear His voice, know His will, and understand that we are in good relationship with Him. John was called the beloved disciple and enjoyed an intimate relationship with Jesus, so when he talks about prayer, we should pay close attention. He writes in his first epistle: If our heart does not condemn us, we have con dence towards God. And whatever we ask we receive from Him, because we keep His commandments and do those things that are pleasing in His sight (1 John 3:20-22). If our hearts condemn us, we have the promise of 1 John 1:9: If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us. He goes on to say: Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. And if we know that He hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we have asked of Him (1 John 5:14-15). John witnesses how Jesus demonstrates this principle at Lazarus’ tomb, recorded in John 11:40-44. Jesus asks Martha, “Did I not say to you that if you would believe you would see the glory of God?” This is a transcendent glory that has power over sin, sickness
and death. It overcomes everything in the world and answers each human need. Jesus lifts up His eyes and prays, “Father, I thank You that You have heard Me.” Then, because His will is so oriented to the Father’s will, He commands it: “Lazarus, come forth!” It’s a shout from His innermost being that Lazarus hears and obeys. One final key is in Revelation 12:11, where John hears a voice in heaven telling of Satan’s downfall: “And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony.”
“This Christmas season, letʼs ask God for the gift of faith - that we may grasp the exceeding greatness of His power toward us.” What we learn in our prayer closet becomes the word of our testimony which overcomes with the blood of the Lamb. Now more than ever, we need the gi of faith. And when we dwell in God’s love, declare our testimony, and proclaim His will, we will see the miraculous.

FORCED MARRIAGE IS HUMAN TRAFFICKING
Orphan’s Promise sponsors various school children.
This is the story of a 13-year-old victim of human trafficking. This young lady was forced into “marriage”. The terrible events that took place within three months changed the course of her life forever. “I was abducted by a boy from my school after a winter class. He grabbed me tightly by my hand and took me into his house and forced to stay there for 2 months. He took me to be his wife. I do not remember much of this time except that his mother would speak badly about me because I would not perform the duties of a wife. I was kept in one of the rooms where every night I was sexually assaulted. They were always there so I could not escape”. CBN AFRICA | 04
After two months the boy’s step mother took her from Lesotho to another country to buy clothes that symbolized that she was no longer a young girl but a woman who is married culturally to her stepson. During this time, she called her sister who lives in the area she was in, so she could visit her. She told her sister what was going on and what happened to her. The next month she escaped from the boy and his step mother and ran away to her sister. Later she learnt that her parents were in negotiations with the boy’s family to force her into an unwanted marriage against her will. Her sister phoned their parents and they did not deny the allegations. Instead they told her to

return the victim to the alleged motherin-law because they said she was married. They couldn’t do anything. When she tried to talk the parents out of the forced marriage they told her that if she takes the victim away from that family then she would be responsible to pay for the victim’s fees. “After speaking with my family, my sister took me to the police station. The police station referred me to the social workers who took me to a place to stay for some time. I was moved to another centre where I stayed with my sister”, but the alleged mother-in-law kept threatening her sister. Because of the threats, the social worker referred the case to the Lesotho Embassy. They brought her back to Lesotho. This young lady was brought into the care of Beautiful Dream Society in Lesotho (supported by Orphan’s Promise) where she received love, medical care, food, clothing, counselling and psychological care. When she came to BDS she was timid and undernourished. She was very frightened and had trouble sleeping at night because she would have dreams about what she experienced. She was shy and did not speak much. She was
numb to her experience and would not talk about it because she did not want to remember anything that happened to her. She believed that by not talking about it, the thoughts would disappear. Over time, she regained weight and strength. She began to sleep better, laugh more, and performed very well in her trauma program. She became more open and friendly when she was around other women allowing her outgoing personality to show. Her dream was that she desperately wanted to go back to school so she could one day become a teacher. Now, two years later, she is back in school, thriving, and working hard to achieve her goal of finishing school and making her dream come true!

CBN SA STAFF FEATURE: TALLENT ZVIDZAYI Tallent is an amazing lady who works with us part time. When she comes into the office, the whole place lights up! She brings her loving heart and big smile along with her everywhere she goes. She loves the Lord and lives for Him and the fruits of the Spirit shine through her. Here is some of her story of faith: “I looked to God and I prayed, God forgive me for all the wrong I did to you. I read the verse in Psalms which says - Call unto me in time of troubles and I answer you. I fasted and prayed telling the Lord that I know, I will not go back to Zimbabwe like Moses did with the Israelites. He said he will not go back to Egypt to the land of slavery. I continued telling God that my son will go to school. I will find the new job and pay rent. People who were seeing me by that time they could see that there is no hope in me. But I kept on praying, when I started praying things became worse, most people saying it’s better to go back home but they didn’t know that Jesus had better plans for me. Like His word in Jeremiah 29:11 says - I have plans for you, plans to prosper you not to harm you. In those days friends became few, life wasn’t easy for me. I even said to myself, does Jesus care? I don’t think there is a God. That time I couldn’t even afford to put food on my table. I thank God for my friend Gallen, she was there for me, she encouraged me not to stop CBN AFRICA | 10

praying. One day God answered my prayers with a phone call offering me work every Wednesday. I told myself I will survive with just that one day. I didn’t stop praying and fasting until I got five days of working. All the things I prayed for God gave to me. I say, Ebenezer, the Lord has taken me to where I am today. Have faith in God no matter what situation you are facing today. God answers prayers.”

A NEW HOME FOR A FAMILY IN NEED
Gugu’s house was burnt down
On the 8th of June 2016, Gugu Ngema and her 4 children were in a desperate situation after their 2 roomed house in Ekwazeni burnt down. Gugu Ngema and her children are recent followers of Jesus and attend Inkosinathi church at the Crossroads Hope Centre. When our project manager (Leonie Nortje) went to see her, Leonie was devastated to see how everything was destroyed by the fire. Gugu recalled that as the flames engulfed her home she had to watch helplessly and allow her hard earned money be reduced to ashes. At Ekwazini there is such a huge shortage of water, their community has turned to the river for their water supply. At the time of Leonie’s visit she was very encouraged to see that amidst the despair and their loss, their faith in God was not lessened in any way. Gugu was rest assured that God will provide. Crossroads staff rallied around and provided new uniforms for the children so that they will continue to go to school. Their beds, bedding, clothing and food were restored too. CBN is also so grateful to God and Crossroads supporters who were able to start building her a new home. With every passing day there is more progress and soon there will be a roof on the building, and Gugu and her family will have a house that they could call home. Thank you 700 Club Partners! PATʼS MESSAGE |
TO KNOW HIM BETTER Pat Robertson
“This eternal life, that they may know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent” (John 17:3). This prayer of Jesus before He returned to the Father should be in the heart of every Christian - that we might know God better; that we might understand His presence and His power and His excellence. Once we understand that, then nothing is impossible. The Apostle Paul echoed this prayer when he wrote to the church at Ephesus. I offer it to you as we anticipate a new year. “I have not stopped giving thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers. I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better. I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people, and his incomparably great power for us who believe. That power is the same as the mighty strength he exerted when he raised Christ from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms. ... God placed all things under his feet and appointed him to be head over everything for the church, which is his body, the fullness of him who fills everything in every way” (Ephesians 1:16-23). As we celebrate the birth of our Saviour, I pray that God will open the eyes of our understanding to know Him more intimately as the God of all creation and experience His resurrection power in our lives. May God bless you. Yours in Christ,
