hat’s in a date? It all depends on your frame of reference and the significance of a particular day in time. Landmark life events such as birthdays and anniversaries can create special memories in our lives. More often than not, the greater the number of years, the more impressive the milestone. The date that AIM officially came into being is April 8, 1982, marking a milestone of 40 years for The AIM Companies™. This high point in AIM’s history will be acknowledged on May 18 at this year’s Corporate Virtual Event, most notably when Dennis and Kay Itami are interviewed by Carolyn Holly, the emcee of AIM LIVE. The 1982 launch of the AIM network marketing partnership with Members who delivered a juice powder derived from barley grass turned out to be a green opportunity that continues to this very day. The product list has expanded over the years, contributing to the growth of the AIM business model. AIM’s research and development department remains in full swing, and May’s virtual event will introduce innovative new products that

The Lows and Highs of
Essential Fatty Acids By Charlotte Meschede - Nutritionist
As nutritionists and other medical professionals interested in nutrition, we glibly refer to essential fatty acids without realizing that many people have no understanding of what these nutrients are, where we find them, and most importantly of all, why they are called essential! Essential fatty acids are called ‘essential’ because the human body cannot manufacture them from other compounds and are required for health. There are two families of EFAs, omega-3 and omega-6. From conception through to maturity the essential omega 3 fatty acids, eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) make unique and irreplaceable contributions to overall brain and nervous system functioning. The other essential omega 3 fatty acid is called a l p h a - linolenic acid (ALA) and occurs naturally in the oils of some nuts and seeds such as walnuts, flax, chia and sunflower seeds, whereas EPA and DHA occur naturally in fatty fish and other seafood as well as algae1. Therefore, ALA is a plant-based fatty acid, whilst EPA and DHA are predominantly found in fish (especially fatty fish such as
4

sardines and mackerel) as well as in the food that these fish eat, which is algae and plankton. Omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids make compounds called eicosanoids, which are important hormones that control the immune system, the nervous system and are a precursor to the formation and functioning of many other hormones in the body. However, it is important to note that omega-3 fatty acids function very differently from omega-6 fatty acids and, in fact, they may produce opposite effects which is why it is important to balance the ratio between the two. Eicosanoids from omega-3 fatty acids tend to promote heart health, whilst eicosanoids from the omega-6 fatty acids are more involved in the immune system, inflammation and blood pressure2. ALA serves as a precursor for EPA and DHA, so even vegetarians can obtain these EFAs in their food.
CELL FOOD
When is it most important to make sure that you consume enough EFAs?
As I have mentioned above, EFAs are important right from conception to old age. However, there are a number of vulnerable stages in which adequate intake of EFAs is crucial in order to prevent deficiencies resulting in abnormalities. • Whilst EFA deficiency is rare in adults who consume a varied diet, and especially one including all the healthy fats such as those found in avocados, nuts and seed oils and of course fatty fish. However, since many people eat an abundance of processed foods, excluding these healthy fats, a deficiency may develop. In these cases, supplementation could be beneficial. • People who suffer from a very dry skin AND are following a strict fatfree or low-fat diet may also benefit from adding these crucial fatty acids into the diet. • In old age, both men and women are vulnerable to cognitive decline. I have found in my practice that those people who take EFA supplements and/or eat fatty fish 3-4 times a week, tend to age less severely. It is my belief that the inflammation fighting effect of EFAs contributes greatly to an improvement in cognitive and mental wellbeing.
How does AIMega rate when it comes to EFA supplementation?
It is now clear, not only from my own experience and research, but from consensus amongst nutritionists worldwide, that eating enough EFAs is crucial for optimal health. However, many people do not have access to fish or do not like eating fish and therefore supplementation may be the only solution. AIMega provides a balanced ratio of 2:1 of omega-3 to omega-6 essential fatty acids (EFAs) from organic seed oils. A suggested dose of 2 -3 capsules twice daily is recommended. I always suggest taking oil supplements with food as I think they are assimilated and absorbed more efficiently. I urge everyone not to wait until a problem develops, but rather educate yourself on how to prevent problems before they occur. Please take your EFAs seriously! Time for a
Bath
These days, who couldn’t use more tempting tub time, especially with the added benefits of a CWR experience: relaxation from stressful times in magnesium-laden bathwater. Whenever you have the time to indulge, slipping into a hot bath is a calming submersion for your body. Pouring some Mag-nificence CWR bath additive into the already soothing water takes the experience to a deeper level by introducing magnesium to the mix.
Magnesium and Stress
Magnesium is a mineral that is required for a multitude of chemical reactions that keep the body functioning.1 Unfortunately, most people do not get enough magnesium in their diets due to the farming methods that deplete magnesium in soil and the widespread consumption of processed food.2 Magnesium deficiency is associated with a number of issues that affect health, including stress levels. Magnesium reduces stress, whereas stress drains your body’s magnesium levels. It becomes a vicious circle when you are under a lot of stress, making a soothing CWR bath saturated with 4,800 mg per 60 ml of elemental magnesium all the more appealing.

The CWR Effect
CWR gives you the most beneficial form of this mineral, magnesium chloride, delivered in one of the most effective methods of absorption: through the skin. Magnesium chloride happens to be the most common form of magnesium in seawater. People feel so good after spending time in ocean waters. Having a CWR bath is like soaking in the sea, absorbing beneficial magnesium as you relax. It’s a great combination of elements: downtime, warmth and magnesium. Mag-nificence! References: 1 bit.ly/Mag_Stress 2 bit.ly/SanjayGuptaMagnesium
CWR can also be applied directly to the skin. Add some to a spray bottle for a convenient way to travel with Mag-nificence!

Soothing Bath Additive
One of the most efficient ways to supplement your intake of magnesium is by absorption through your skin. Each time you pour 2 oz (60 ml) of Mag-nificence CWR into your bathwater, you add 4,800 mg of elemental magnesium to soak in.
No Time for Baths?
The beauty of Mag-nificence CWR is that it can be applied directly to your skin, so you don’t have to be in a bath to benefit. Gently rub some on your skin anytime you need it: after a shower, before bed, following exercise, etc. For convenience, pour CWR in a spray bottle – a handy way to apply it, whether you’re at home, at work or traveling.
Swimming in the sea makes a body feel good. The absorption of magnesium chloride plays a likely role in that good feeling. Soaking in bathwater containing CWR’s magnesium chloride provides a similar positive effect.
If It’s Good Enough for the Ocean . . .
Of all the water on planet Earth, 97 percent is ocean. A minimum of one million tons of magnesium is found within one cubic kilometer of sea water, making it one of the greatest sources of this essential mineral.1 The most common form of magnesium found in the ocean is magnesium chloride, the AIM choice for Mag-nificence CWR: a bit of the ocean in a bottle. 1 bit.ly/MagChloSea

HEALTHY ATTITUDE
I no longer wear a “mask” -
This is the REAL me
By Amanda West - AIM Director
If you know me, you will probably agree that I always smile and always laugh. And yes, I am louder and larger than life! My personality and body can fill and light a space instantaneously. I am that girl in the song: “Amanda, you light up my life!” Is this me? Yes and no! For years, and way before the pandemic entered our world, I have been wearing a “mask”. Amanda’s “mask” of fabulously fantastic bubbly fun. However, deep inside I was desperately crying out to God to save me from myself. Here’s the thing, I struggle with my weight and the truth is, I may never be the socially acceptable, slim and trim, as depicted by women’s magazines and social media. And that’s ok. After all, my personality makes up for that, doesn’t it? In truth, I was in turmoil and agony! I was unhealthy, bloated and at dis-ease with myself. I was riddled with pain and literally sick and tired of feeling sick and tired. Together with my wonderful and supportive husband, I raised four teenagers whom I home-schooled whilst also working as a nail technician. My life was and often still is, an undeniably crazy, full-time juggling act. And then, at the very depth of my despair, I received an invitation to an event that would literally change my life! At the age of 40, in May 2021, 8

I stepped into a room full of angels. Each and every person I met, was filled with grace, inner beauty, knowledge and wisdom. That day marked a divine moment, which radically altered my life. This amazing event created, not only an opportunity to heal my body, but, after listening to all the testimonials of those wonderful people, I realised that there was also an incredible business opportunity. My salon is a beehive of activity and chatter where I daily get to have intimate conversations with my clients-turned-friends. It was the perfect platform to share my newfound knowledge and wisdom. God had presented me with a choice to take responsibility for me and my family’s health. The least I could do was to share it with everyone in my path. This also motivated me to dive right in and use the products religiously so that I could be an example of someone who walks the talk! Using the AIM products not only helped me and my family feel better and healthier, it also saved me from myself and all the default bad habits

and unhealthy daily choices I have been making all my life. My greatest desire is to leave a legacy of health and wellness for my children and their children and their children’s children. I want to be the one who breaks the cycle in our family, the one that was willing to take the road less travelled. Change is the currency of growth and I decided to radically break free from the generational comfort zone our family had been stuck in for so many years. It was not only my physical health that improved with the AIM products but also my financial health. The pandemic created havoc with my business and mental wellbeing. Many clients became sick or did not want to be exposed to Covid and cancelled their regular appointments. To top that, my husband and children also caught the dreaded virus and I had to care for them. Every new day dawned without a ray of hope.
money to provide for a week and even had some change to spare! Month after month my rebate grew and this motivated me to work even harder and set new goals, not just for us as a family, but also for my business. Through AIM, with my amazingly supportive upline and my new downline, I was able to take us on a first-ever family holiday to a resort at the coast. I was able to enjoy a stressfree holiday with my family knowing that there was enough to provide for the holiday and beyond. The cherry on my AIM smoothie was that, I had a downline on fire! How can one girl get to be so lucky?
However, when one finds yourself in a place of darkness, God sends His angels to show you the way, even if it is only enough to take the next step. The invitation was like a headlight that showed me the next step: start using the AIM products and share it with others. I did not even have enough money to purchase all the products I so desperately needed. Yet again, my friend helped by sponsoring me to get started. Fast-forward a few months and suddenly an alert on my phone informs me of a deposit into my bank account. My AIM rebate payment came through at just the perfect time. I had enough

Women and the
Calcium Balance Bones are continuously turning over in a cycle of building, growing, excavating and rebuilding. Calcium is the primary building block in this cycle. This essential mineral cannot be manufactured by your body, so it must come from dietary intake every day. Only one percent of all the calcium stored in your body is found outside of your bones and teeth. This tiny percentage is used for many vital functions, including the widening and narrowing of blood vessels, the moving of muscles and the secreting of hormones. Adequate amounts of dietary calcium maintain balance, supporting necessary body functions and keeping bone material dense and strong. Women tend to be more susceptible to issues with bone density, which can be impacted by pregnancy, breastfeeding and menopause.
10
May - Jun 2022 / to order call 011-675-0477
As an example, for the healthy development of a growing child during pregnancy and breastfeeding, calcium is in high demand. If a mother’s calcium intake is insufficient, then this mineral will be taken from her bones (resorption).1 This is why it is important for moms to increase their intake of calcium-rich nutrition. But before supplementing with CalciAIM, a mom should consult with her health care practitioner.
CELL PROTECTION
The CalciAIM Difference
CalciAIM helps to meet your daily requirement, and it is best taken with food. For efficacy and safety, each serving delivers an amount of calcium that your body can take at one time: around 400 mg. If you have two or three servings daily, take them at separate meals.
Calcium is simply a difficult mineral to absorb supplementally unless it is delivered in a free-ionic form, which happens as soon as you add CalciAIM powder to water.
References: 1 bit.ly/ResorptionPregnancy 2 bit.ly/CalciumIntake
Many women supplement their calcium intake to ensure they get a sufficient amount. Those who choose CalciAIM know the difference between its 98 percent absorbable calcium powder and only 20 percent absorbability from capsules and 30 percent from tablets.
Additionally, nutrients that support calcium absorption and bone health are also fundamental ingredients in the formulation: vitamin D, magnesium, zinc, L-lysine HCL, vitamin C, vitamin A and copper.
The Right Amount
For women over the age of 19, the recommended daily amount for calcium is 1,000 – 1,200 mg. Women require the higher amount when they reach the age of 51, around the start of menopause. For adults 19 to 50, the recommended upper limit is 2,500 mg of calcium a day. If you are 51 or older, the upper limit of daily calcium is 2,000 mg.2
The CalciAIM Difference
1. Supports health bones 2. Maintaining a healthy body weight 3. May reduce PMS symptoms 4. Keeps teeth strong 5. Aids gum health 6. Great for maintaining alkalinity

The Good Kind of Strain Lactobacillus gasseri
Bifidobacterium bifidum
Bifidobacterium longum
They might be a bit hard to pronounce, but the three strains of bacteria in FloraFood are good ones. Choosing this trio of probiotics to repopulate your microbiota does your body good by maintaining digestive and overall health. Lactobacillus gasseri happens to be one of the main species
of good bacteria in your gastrointestinal tract. This means ingesting more of this specific strain eases the strain that these good bacteria are under to keep you healthy. One of this strain’s abilities is creating an unhealthy environment for bad bacteria that would otherwise cause intestinal issues.
Bifidobacterium bifidum works especially well with your immune system to enhance the all-important immune response. Studies of this strain of good bacteria reveal that it plays a role in lowering inflammation. Bifidobacterium longum has also been shown to enhance
the immune response and reduce the damaging effects of inflammation. It helps to produce vitamin C (ascorbic acid) and both strains of Bifidobacteria are involved in the synthesis of B vitamins.
A healthy, dominant population of good bacteria is integral to having good health. What's more, the activity and composition of microorganisms that make up the gut microbiota can negatively or positively affect your health. Taking FloraFood contributes greatly to the number and diversity of beneficial microorganisms: three billion good bacteria per capsule. And FloraFood’s glass bottle keeps these three probiotic strains effectively active without the need for refrigeration. References: bit.ly/B_Anti-inflammatory bit.ly/GoodStrain bit.ly/B_Benefits

Let’s all have
Beautiful Skin By Charlotte Meschede - Nutritionist
The truth is that beautiful skin comes from what you put IN not what you put ON! Most people tend to forget how important it is to look after your skin until such time as it presents a problem. We tend to take it for granted and yet skin health is every bit as important as the health of every other part of your body. In fact your skin is the body’s first line of defense against physical invasion of foreign organisms. Just think how a cut or wound can allow pathogenic bacteria to enter the bloodstream and cause major diseases? If we don’t treat wounds appropriately, infections can be very detrimental to the point that gangrene can occur and amputations may be the result! I will never forget my first exposure to gangrene when I was doing my internship! The patient was a young boy, who had previously been admitted to hospital due to an illness. Once he was better, the doctor discharged him. However, this poor young boy had never slept on a bed or been given 3 meals per day so being discharged was literally the last thing he wanted! Once he was home, his main goal was to be re-admitted to hospital. After claiming fruitlessly that he was still sick and needed to go back to hospital, he put his feet and lower limbs into a bucket of boiling water! Needless to say, he was admitted with severe third degree burns from his knees 16
May - Jun 2022 / to order call 011-675-0477
down. Owing to his poor nutritional status, the burns turned gangrenous very quickly and he ended up losing most of the muscle tissue around his calves, but through careful nursing and major nutritional supplementation, we managed to prevent amputation. Whilst this is an extreme case, it is a grim reminder of how important skin health can be. None of us like to have scars or marks on our skin and let me not even discuss the effect of ageing on the skin! That topic requires a chapter all of it’s own! Skin is the largest organ in the human body. Strictly speaking, it is an endocrine organ as it controls both internal and external metabolic processes. The skin will reflect internal imbalances such as malnutrition, digestive issues, and deficiencies. Therefore it goes without saying that the integrity of the skin and mucous membranes (Internal skin) is vital as it forms the protective coating for internal organs and tissues. Nutritional factors can affect hydration of the skin, sebum (oil) production and elasticity. The most common skin conditions associated with nutrition are the following:
CELL FOOD
• •
Dryness, dehydration and/or loss of elasticity Acne
Dryness & Dehydration
Water, water, water! Most people
simply don’t drink enough water, especially in the winter months. We don’t get as thirsty in cold weather as we do in warmer temperatures and our skin will feel the deficit. You should drink at least 1 ½ to 2 litres of water per day, and more if you are exercising or playing sport. Other liquids such as tea and coffee have a diuretic (encourage urination) effect, so drinking more tea and coffee to make up the excess can, in fact, do exactly the opposite and cause more dehydration. Recommended AIM supplementation: Peak Endurance to ensure adequate hydration through electrolyte homeostasis.
Acne
The devastating effect of acne on teenagers is tangible. Most young adults have enough issues to cope with, let alone having physical manifestations such as acne, which can seriously undermine their confidence and emotional stability. Many of the teenagers I treat have absolutely NO idea how much nutrition plays a role in acne and general skin health. Either parents are ill advised or they are not getting the message across. I have also had many instances in which the parents’ diets are so bad that the role model they present to the children is one in which nutrition is not important and only genetics are to blame for bad skin. General nutritional advice for people suffering from acne is summarised below: • Avoid saturated fats such as visible fat on meat, ‘hard’ cheeses (Parmesan, Cheddar, etc.), processed
• •
• • •
• •
meats such as biltong, sausages and salami as well as butter Limit red meat intake to once a week Increase intake of ‘good’ fats such as avocados, olive oil, raw tree nuts and seeds Eat fish, especially fatty fish as often as you can Avoid fried foods of any description, but especially deep fried Do not use other vegetable oils and margarine for cooking as this produces more trans fats Reduce the intake of sugar Increase consumption of fresh fruits and vegetables, especially those of colour such as blueberries (any berries are really good), pawpaw, oranges, mangoes, butternut, peppers and green leafy vegetables
Recommended AIM products:
Garden Trio – not only because of the plant pigments but also because of the natural source of vitamins, minerals and trace elements. AIMega - to provide suitable essential fatty acids to help maintain the integrity of the outer layer of skin, as well as strength and elasticity. Essential fatty acids (the ‘good’ fats mentioned above) also have a strong inflammation fighting effect on the body. IN CONCLUSION please remember that it is NOT necessary to go on very strict elimination diets such as dairyfree, gluten-free and/or vegetarian diets unless specifically indicated. Such diets can in their own capacity, lead to multiple nutritional deficiencies through food group avoidance and these deficiencies will only serve to add confusion and severity to symptoms. Try and identify a condition accurately before taking Dr Google’s advice. Sound nutritional principles should prevail.

It’s a fact of life that achieving healthy nutrition is a challenge for many people. Guys tend to be among those even more challenged given the popularity of processed foods and snacks as well as fast foods that frequently end up as their go-to nutritional choices. Of course, this goes against the best advice for maintaining good health. Missing out on recommended amounts of essential nutrients as well as beneficial phytonutrients negatively impacts health, so boosting intake from plantbased whole food as well as supplementation is simply good for guys. Dads who take these nutritional steps for themselves are also doing something beneficial for their children: being there as healthy examples. Looking at the AIM lineup reveals quite a selection of supplemental nutrition that supports men of all ages and lifestyles. To narrow the field a bit and hone in on specific nutrients that men should not miss, here are five manly choices.
1.
Greens
It’s easy for men to increase their plant-based nutrient intake by making BarleyLife a go-to daily supplemental food. If the taste of the powder is a factor, capsules

are a handy option. Either choice will give a guy a diverse, natural source of beneficial antioxidants, chlorophyll, enzymes, vitamins and minerals as well as the unique phytonutrients found in barley leaves. There’s even a gram of healthy plant protein in each serving.
2.
Calcium
To build and maintain bone structure, men require a daily source of calcium, a major mineral that is also essential for the optimal function of their hearts, muscles and nerves. An effective way for men to supplement their daily calcium requirements* is with CalciAIM, a powder that becomes a free-ionic source of this mineral when mixed in water. *1,000 mg for men ages 19 – 70 1,200 mg for men ages 71+

3.
Fiber
One of the most easily avoided essential nutrients from having a poor diet is fiber. This indigestible plant carbohydrate cleans the intestinal tract, so missing out leads to fecal and toxin buildup in the colon. Taking Fit ’n Fiber is an easy way for a man to avoid missing out on wasteeliminating fiber. And it’s a great source of prebiotics that feed the good bacteria that help a guy stay healthy.
4.
Protein
Meat is a major protein source for most men. Burgers, steaks and chops are succulent standards on a man’s menu. But animal protein has its drawbacks, including increased saturated fat, bad cholesterol and acid production.2 Adding ProPeas to the menu helps to alkalize a guy’s body with low-fat pea protein. It’s just the way that plant-based nutrition from whole food works. Additionally, this “green” protein can help to boost a man’s metabolism and lean musculature.
Phytosterols
Plants provide a plenitude of beneficial compounds, including phytosterols, which are remarkably similar in structure to cholesterol, and, interestingly enough, may maintain a healthy serum lipid profile. The phytosterols in ReAssure SP have been shown to help with the symptoms associated with an enlarged prostate, a common occurance in men over the age of forty. Research indicates that phytosterols can increase peak urinary flow and decrease residual urine volume after a man relieves himself.3 Of course, some guys may doubt the benefits of supplementing their nutritional intake, but keep in mind that the old saying “An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure” got to be so old because it still rings true to this very day. BarleyLife
Friend of the Furry and the Feathered By Adélle van der Merwe - AIM Member
A year ago, my dog and only companion, Sammy, developed a serious cough in the mornings. The vet diagnosed her with what they call kennel cough. However, after several x-rays and series of antibiotics we discovered that she in fact, had an enlarged heart. I was given the shattering news that there is not much we can do. Sammy’s sand in her hourglass was running out. It broke my heart. I shared my sorrow with my friend and sponsor and she advised that I try giving Sammy some BarleyLife every day. After all, what did I have to lose? Nine months later, she has a healthy wet nose, is full of energy and has even lost some excess weight. Sammy’s time on earth may be limited due to her age but against all odds, her health and overall wellbeing changed dramatically and I can only attribute it to the daily tablespoon of BarleyLife that she gets with her food. Thank you AIM for allowing my companion and friend to be with me for a little longer. Longer than anticipated! I am humbled and grateful. In December 2021, while Sammy and I were peacefully sitting in our living

room, a newly hatched little dove fluttered in. She was frail and could not fly properly. I searched for the nest and her mother, but to no avail. So, what do I give this little feathered creature to eat and drink? I could not just leave her outside to fend for herself. Once again, I shared it with my friend and sponsor who said: “Adélle, you know what to do. Back to basics, back to Barley!” And so this broken and beautiful little dove started her diet of daily Barley in her water together with some seeds. For days she just walked and flapped around in my room. I religiously oversaw her diet and just over a week, she started happily flying around. With a sad heart, Sammy and I let her loose. I miss her but know that with the help of The AIM Products and some tender loving care, she is “flying” her life, as God created her to do.
