Memory

In India we know the joint families’ norms are gradually getting belittled and singular family unit concept is growing very rapidly. So it becomes very difficult to face a bad situation when one is like this and unfortunately mind stops to work under such circumstances. Under such an influence and havoc, one evening I met a lady who was in her 40’s and had children and husband and all of them seemed tensed as the lady had the Celiac disease. Well with the lady I could understand the horror which had invaded her mind but this was further enhancing my problem as if I can’t smile and tell the patient that there is nothing to worry then how on earth one can feel good. She has to feel positive so matter what is her complication. No matter what will be her condition in future but her present is something that really matters as it can make or break everything. I saw her reports and her families’ report and luckily only she was affected by this. I tried to sound normally and naturally although I can say for sure that I was also under the influence of sadness and horror. Question was not the problem of diet but the arid situation that had hit the family and she was also my first patient with celiac disease. She wanted to inform her other family members but the question was how as there were many relatives with some their relation was not very good. That was the very moment I really believed internet can be the worst thing if it is with you at the wrong time. Her family was reading a lot about this disease and the deeper they were going the worse feeling was growing on their faces. I needed to stop them at once. It is fine that their probing the internet paved them to a dietitian but it was not good to go into the complex details of the disease. And most importantly you must understand the stage at which your complication is and try not to exasperate things. I needed to tell them that celiac disease is not the end. It only means you have to avoid food that has gluten which is wheat and wheat related families like rye, etc. Now she had to understand that she was susceptible to gluten and should not eat it even by mistake. So she should depend on the foods made in her kitchen which are fully under her control. It does not necessarily mean that if the patient has one bite it is the end. It all depends on how much intolerance one has. Some patient can have a small amount of gluten (of course by mistake) but for other it can lead to major severity like diarrhea or such symptoms. Yes, it is very important to stop taking gluten in any form. Stop wheat, rye and barley and other high breeds. One has to stop eating breads, cereals, pasta, crackers, cakes pies, cookies and gravies. In case of oat, one has to first get this cleared by their doctor as some patients can have and some can’t. This decision is majorly taken by your doctor but if you ask me then I never suggest eating oats as there is a good possibility of cross-contamination which can be dangerous for the patient.

Memory with celiac patient By Dietitian Sheela Seharawat

There is no way to go for any kind of processed food as it can have wheat. Wheat flour is a very common ingredient in many processed foods. Some examples are canned soups, Salad dressings, Ice creams, candy bars, instant coffee, meats, ketchup, mustard etc. It is also important to avoid milk and other dairy products that contain lactose. A very common reaction to this is: why milk and other dairy products? Research has found that untreated celiac patients are

also intolerant to lactose; however, they can start gradually consuming dairy products once they are well treated. It is also important to be careful before taking any medicine, capsules and vitamins as they can have gluten. As we know wheat starch is used in tablets and capsules due to its binding properties. It is good that in India society women are not so much fond of alcoholic drinks so they don’t need to face any challenge or many difficulties in avoiding them. These patients should not have beer at any cost however they can have wine, brandy whiskey and other alcoholic drinks provided they are sure that there is no barley in its ingredients. Especially for ladies, I would like to say that they have to pay extra attention to their lipstick and other cosmetic products as they can have gluten in them. The main thing with this disease is your precaution to be away from gluten. Don’t buy anything that has even iota amount of gluten. First be sure. There are many branded products that say no gluten in one country but can have it in another. Or the manufacturer has changed its manufacturing style and he is now using gluten which you may not be aware of. So be sure, be careful before buying and eating anything. One more important thing is that these patients face deficiencies of vitamins and minerals and need supplements which must be given under the knowledge of their doctor. Diseases are diseases and are never welcomed but if one has a disease then one should see how best to deal with it. Don’t get depressed and feel hopeless. Don’t give up. There is always some way to protect you and live better. It is very important to trust your dietitian and follow your gluten free diet without fail. It will give you the best results and soon within week or more you will feel almost normal. It is also noted that some celiac patients started to feel better within 48 hours of starting their gluten free diet. Children with celiac disease gave much better and quicker results after their strict gluten free diet intake. There is nothing to panic about, just first know the disease and if disease is there so find the best possible way to deal with it. I also suggest the same thing to each of my celiac patients and request them all to be thankful to god and live happily.

ADVT

The memories of a dietitian are not necessarily always sweet and beautiful. Sometime it is arid and sad too, mostly when it comes to a celiac patient. As celiac disease has affected 1% of the world population and we Indians are also touched by it so the memories seriously go from bad to worst. Before I go into the seriousness of the problem let me begin with other influencing factors that help in shaping the situation even more difficult.

4 opinion LET HUMANITY LIVE: Water scarcity a burning issue. NEGOTIATING AFSPA Does a parched future await us? Faridabad (NCR) 16-30 September, 2016

Sparsh Upadhyay Email ID -13bal055@nirmauni.ac.in What would one expect from a country founded on the principles of Liberty, equality and Democracy? At least, if not much, a set of pre-requirements ensured by the state for wellbeing of an Individual. But what happens when it fails to comply with the basic duty to protect its citizens from arbitrary actions of Law? Armed Forces Special Powers Act (hereafter, AFSPA). Often named a draconian law, certainly does away with any possibility of proliferation of an individual habituating in and around the area where it is imposed. The reason behind its imposition could be justified by employing vagueness in the arguments so given, the clear picture which seems to emerge is, that it is doing no good. The legacy which was inherited from the British was not only a country with dense population and diverse cultures along with expectations of the people for their upliftment, but it was also the responsibility to maintain the integrity of the country in a way that the country does not break into pieces. What Linlithgow did during Quit India Movement (in 1942), was repeated when Naga people tried to become troublemakers and that was when the AFSPA was introduced in the parliament with an intention that, for a smooth running of Democracy, the integrity must be maintained, and in view of the security as a primary Importance, the law was passed with no considerable disagreement. It was well thought that the Act would enable the Government to control the situation in Disturbed Areas through military actions. Amidst all this, it was assumed that all actions would turn out to be ethical, which did not at the end. AFSPA has continued to be in troubles and the debate regarding its removal is nowadays growing bigger. The sections as well as their implications under the Act are prima facie unreasonable, and to say this in a different way let me take the inquiry to a different level. While this act came in view of curbing the secessionist movement, across the nation in Disturbed Areas, the Act’s real motive was to ultimately secure the people habituating in and around such place, a sense of security and peace but the act has clearly failed in its attempt to create an atmosphere that is devoid of fear. The main inquiry stands as firm as it was in the past, do we need such Laws and how do we cope up with the atrocities being committed under the garb of such laws, if we turn towards our DPSPs, Article 38 of the Constitution would say that state needs to provide social Security to its citizens, I do not understand how in such an emergency state as of imposition of AFSPA, could a state strive for maintain social order. And even Article 51 of the Constitution could not be adhered to while making policies, it wouldn’t be an exaggerated statement to make that AFSPA is in itself an emergency state, irony is that it is supposed to normalize the pre-existing emergency condition in the area. It doesn’t allow for any remedy and protection from torture and cruelty and this coupled with Impunity to the army personnel make things worse, it wouldn’t be worth noting that Article 21 of The Indian Constitution totally loses its value. After the judgment in ADM Jabalpur came, hue and cries were made by the intellectuals that how could state take away the right to life? It clearly was unconstitutional on the part of executive to do that, later when 44TH amendment came, all looked well. Judgments like that of I.R Cohelo vs. State of Tamil Nadu and Ramdeo Chauhan vs. Bani Kant Das, to name a few have accepted that Jabalpur Decision does set a bad precedent and clearly isn’t reasonable. But the question that arises is how far have we come of that emergency era, where basic rights of Individuals weren’t considered to be as important as state survival? The AFSPA gives the answer that could surprise us, yes we still aren’t out of that era, here also in Emergency the basic rights are taken away and even the one who takes could go unpunished and presents in front of us a paradox where a nation which has always advocated the need to protect basic human rights and is a part of International Human Rights Treaties, keeps within its laws such a law which drives in the fear in the minds of people. AFSPA threatens the existence of Humanity itself; it is clearly an authoritative Law where Morality doesn’t find any place. The discretionary powers are unrestricted in nature and it seems that colonial rule is yet to go from the country. But we are stronger than ever, we could by strong political will, do away with such law or at least modify it to accommodate the concerns that have been raised recently. I hope to see the changes more so when Irom sharmila has decided to break her fast and take up politics after the Supreme Court took up the cases of atrocities done by the army personnel under the garb of AFSPA.

Speculation

There are many speculation over the years and one such is ‘Year 2070’ a powerful presentation by Dr. A P J Abdul Kalam, Former President of India and Missile man of India. ‘The outside appearance of the population is horrible: wrinkled, emaciated bodies, due to dehydration, full of sores caused by ultra violet radiation, now stronger without the protective shield of the ozone layer. Skin cancer, gastrointestinal infections and of the urinary tracts are the main causes of death. Due to the excessive drying of the skin young people of 20 look like 40. Water cannot be produced, oxygen is also degraded due to the lack of trees and vegetation, and the intellectual capacity of the new generations is severely impaired. Scientists investigate, but there's no solution to the problem. The morphology of spermatozoa in many men has changed. As a consequence, babies are born with deficiencies, mutations and physical deformities. “The wars of this century have been on oil, and the wars of the next century will be on water ... unless we change the way we manage water.” – Ismail Serageldin, Former Vice President, World Bank.

TAC Gurgaon: Haryana’s Chief Minister Shri Manohar Lal Khattar has said that the Swarna Jayanti Varsh will be dedicated to the youth of Haryana as its primary focus will be on providing more and more employment opportunities to the youth. CM’s statement came while addressing the press conference after unveiling the official logo for Swarna Jayanti celebrations. He said that the Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi will be present on 1st November, 2016 to commence the Swarn Jayanti Varsh from Gurgaon. He urged all the citizens of the state to come together and celebrate the Swarn Jayanti Varsh not as a festival but as a pledge. He also requested all Government and Non-government institutions to organize the Swarn Jayanti Varsh program for the entire year and to use its logo as much as possible. This year several programs will be organized in the villages as well as cities of Haryana to mark the occasion of Swarn Jayanti Varsh. Besides, plans are underway to organize the Geet Jayanti Samaroh in a grand manner from 6 – 10 December 2016. Yuva Utsav will be organized in the entire state from 1217 January, 2017. He also mentioned that a Khel Mahakumbh will be organized on the closing ceremony of Swarna Jayanti Varsh which will be at par with international standards. No scarcity of budget for 140 members in the Swarn Jayanti Committee

Private & public schools to help improve education standards in Haryana’s government schools

TAC: Bricks may soon begin to come off the walls of difference that separate private schools from government schools and their students in Haryana. A beginning has been made for sure, private players are being roped in to pull them down, and heads of government schools are being given a free hand in getting the needful done. Committed to scaling up the practices of learning in government schools and improving the standard of education, the Department of School Education, Haryana, has decided to take assistance of private public schools and other organisations under the ‘Muskan Programme’. The pilot project was launched by P C Meena, Director, School Education Department, in two government schools of Gurgaon namely, Government Middle School, Gairatpur Bass, and Government Primary School, Rosewood City. Speaking after the launch, Meena said the ‘Muskan Programme’ had been evolved to bring both government and private schools together. Each private school would voluntarily adopt at least two government schools in the proximity, and share their best practices in learning, innovative ideas and creativity. They would even ask senior students of their schools to interact with the students of adopted schools. This would give them exposure and inculcate in them a sense of responsibility towards the society. The students of private schools may donate books and toys for their counterparts in the adopted schools and decorate their walls with paintings to make the teachinglearning process more attractive. The heads of government schools have been empowered to collaborate with any organization, industry, private school or NGO in the interest of their schools, Meena said. The ‘Muskan Programme’ has three components—"Mera school, mera sunder school," "Meri pustak sabki pustak" and "Mere khilone hamare khilone’ (My School My Beautiful School, My Book is for all and My toys are for all).

SEX AND THE CITY Flesh trade flourishes as minor girls are forced into prostitution everyday while the law bides time in a country with an insatiable appetite for sex

Dheeraj Kale

How ironical it is that activities which are banned or are illegal, flourish right under the very nose of our legal system and our administrative authorities, well within the public domain. Everyone, from the police, the administration, the law enforcement agencies and the people, are well aware of their existence and the deterioration they are bringing upon our society. We as a civilized society abhor the presence of such activities in our surroundings. Yet, it doesn’t matter. When the concerned authorities are not bothered then why should we be? So we prefer to just look away and walk off with a straight face until this menace grows enough to seep in through the cracks of our creaky lives and one

day devours everything. Prostitution or, in more explicit terms, flesh trade is an example of such a menace which is gradually nibbling on the backbone of our great nation. ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padao’ is a fine punchline for a social advertising campaign but it appears to be a mockery of a system under which 3 million daughters of the nation earn their livelihood as sex workers out of which over 35% are minors. Now it would be sacrilegious to say that one of these minors could have been your or my daughter, but how does it make a difference until we are unscathed from this evil lurking in our neighborhood. Surprisingly, prostitution is legal in India and why not? In a sex starved nation like ours, where 92 women

are raped everyday (out of which four in Delhi) as per statistics, legalizing prostitution is the least which can be done. But prostitution is legal only if carried out in private residence of a prostitute or others. A number of related activities, including soliciting in a public place, kerb crawling, owning or managing a brothel, prostitution in a hotel, pimping and pandering, are crimes. As per Indian laws, brothels are illegal. But in India, every city and town, aside from the capital city, has its own red-light area. India's largest and best-known red-light districts are Sonagachi in Kolkata, Kamathipura in Mumbai and G. B. Road in New Delhi. Thousands of sex workers work in these brothels. But where do these sex workers come from? The recent arrest of the kingpin couple, Afaq Hussain, 50, and his wife Saira Begum, 45 and the subsequent revelations made after their arrest, shed some light on this question. Afaq and Saira owned three brothels and ran one-third of the prostitution business in Delhi’s G. B. Road area. The couple along with their accomplices, driver Ramesh, chief manager Vasu and other aides Samshad, Shilpi, Mumtaz and Puja Thapa worked in a very organized manner. The couple traded around 5000 women from Nepal, Bengal, Jharkhand and Andhra Pradesh since

People easily get angry in India

TAC News: Rang de Basanti, Mumbai Meri Jaan, Khoya Khoya Chand actress Soha Ali Khan believes that people in India gets angry on petty issues. Many families were destroyed after the Sikh riots of 1984; she is coming with a film which has picked the story of one such family. It is due to release on 31st of October. but are people ready to see films based on such sentimental issues? When BBC had a talk with Soha, people get angry soon, they don’t even wait for the films to release. She said that she believes in having independent opinion, but that opinion should be based on good reasons. The film has not tried to take benefit of the riots. Soha clarified that she was too little when 1984 riots happened. She remembers that she had shifted from Bombay to Delhi because of her grandmother’s health issues. There was a Gurudwara in Pataudi, which was destroyed. She knows a sardar, who had witnessed all the incidences closely and has removed

hairs from his head. People from other sects had helped Sikhs and had given them shelter. She belongs to Pataudi family. This is a place in Haryana Soha feels that country should see films like 31 October. The turbulence in Indian politics is closely watched by Soha and says that films that show closeness of different people in India must come forward. She says that we are a very young Democratic country and that is why people take undue advantage of religion related matters and propagate hatred. People do come into the trap. This is solely for the purpose of becoming strong and it has nothing to do with religion. Soha considers herself to be a sensible citizen of this country and she has no plans to enter into politics. Film, 31 October, which is slated to be released on 7th October, has been directed by national film award winner, Shivji Lohan and Vir das is also in an important role in the film. She plays the role of a woman who is fixed in a serious situation amidst the riots.

1999 and made an incredible 100 Crore till date. They own several luxury cars, a dozen properties, including a farmhouse in Delhi and a property in Bengaluru which was sold recently for Rs. 4 Crore. It is difficult to fathom that this husbandwife duo became the kingpins of a 100 Crore sex racket, which flourished for 20 years during which they sold, purchased and forced thousands of innocent girls into this trade. While our police and legal system bided time during these last 20 years, these young girls, mostly minor, were beaten up mercilessly, confined in tunnel shaped cells without food like animals and subjected to indescribable tortures before their spirits shattered and they gave up before these monsters by exchanging their bodies with freedom from their atrocities. Afaq and Saira have not been arrested for the first time and it won’t be the first time either, if they are released to walk free again, continuing to destroy the lives of many other women and minor girls, who may still even not be born yet. It will not be the first time when several others like Afaq and Saira are arrested and released to pursue their nefarious activities. But as citizens of this great country, we all are waiting for the first time, when people like Afaq and Saira will not be spared to walk free again but will be given the capital punishment so that no one dares to follow their example.

Shahnaz Husain Celebrates the Year of Indian Girl Power!

2016 is the year of Indian Girl Power! Girls have made India proud at Rio, bringing home Olympic medals, along with the assurance that our girls can match up to the world’s best. Sakshi won the bronze in wrestling, a so-called male domain. Sindhu bagged the silver medal in a hard fought match with a historic performance, while gymnast Dipa Karmakar got 4th position in death-defying feats. The Government of India has conferred the prestigious Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award on the girls. It is ironical that the unwanted girl child, who is still subjected to atrocities, has brought glory and pride to India. It also proves that a country like India, with such a large population, must be having enormous untapped talent. The need of the hour is upliftment of women in rural areas and education of the girl child. We also have to deal with gender bias and patriarchal mindsets. Also, the quality of life needs to improve in terms of basic health care and fitness. Special attention should be given to extra-curricular activities for girls and women in rural areas. An exercise and diet regime would help both mental and physical health. Every mother should be empowered with education and financial independence, so that she can educate her girl child and inculcate the values of good health, nutritious diet and education. Good health and top level fitness are necessary for excelling in world sports events, like the Olympics. This is exactly what I had emphasized, when I lectured on woman empowerment at MIT, USA. Indeed, the woman must realize her own potential and strength as an equal member of society. The family has to fight for change. Father and mother must value the girl child and give her equal opportunities. Changes cannot come from outside and by force. It has to come from within the society and within the family. A woman was created to blossom and bloom, in the colours and fragrance of her choice. The way an unwatered plant becomes parched and dies, so does the personality of a woman, who is struggling to break through the shackles of social conditioning, to achieve recognition as a separate individual, with a distinct identity. The change will be complete when society recognizes that it cannot benefit from preventing the emergence of the pearl from the oyster. Then we will also see the emergence of more Sakshis, Sindhus and Dipas!

“Celiac disease is an autoimmune disorder that results in damage to the lining of the small intestine when foods with gluten are eaten.” Dietitian Sheela Seharawat. It is also known as celiac sprue or gluten-sensitive enteropathy. It is a very rare kind of disease. Many researches are going on in this field and scientists are trying to get better solution. Gluten is a form of protein found in some grains like wheat, Barley, Bulgur, Durum, Farina, Graham flour, Malt, Rye, Semolina, Spelt (a form of wheat) and Triticale. “As the blood test report says about anyone as a patient of celiac disease the doctors are soon sending the patient to a dietitian.” Says dietitian Sheela Seharawat. It is the first and the most important step to plan a gluten free diet then gradually inflammation from the small intestine starts to reduce, patient starts to feel relieve. It takes a few weeks but as patient starts to feel better then he gets back to normal within a few days. “It is also very important to note that gluten free diet comes out from gluten free kitchen.” Says dietitian Sheela Seharawat. This celiac disease demands gluten free diet and the best way to avoid gluten is to stop its entrance at home. It is also important for the rest of the family to show support and understanding as cross contamination can make situation critical. The worst thing is that this disease has no cure and diet is the only way to deal with it. If diet is not regulated, then difficulties will further increase and like any other fatal disease it can also surely lead to death. Precaution is the only way. Keep yourself gluten free. Researchers have found that there are several risk factors that increase the chance of getting celiac disease like having multiple doses of antibiotics during early years of life. It is also found that infant feeding pattern, early infections, gut microbiota and the amount and timing of initial gluten exposure also plays an important role in exposure to this celiac disease. We have also noted that Celiac disease can develop in genetically predisposed children (HLA DQ2 and/or DQ8 positive) at any point from 9 months of age through adulthood. We have several tests that help in knowing this disease. Our body carries certain antibodies like - Anti-tissue transglutaminase (tTG) - Anti-endomysium (EMA) Anti-deamidated gliadin peptides (DGP). A positive antibody test suggests that a person might have celiac disease; it is accurate to a good extent however an endoscopic biopsy of small intestine can confirm with certainty. It is also important that during these tests patient must not stop taking gluten free diet as it can further complicate the process of testing. As celiac patients eat any gluten foods then their immune system gets invaded. Their antibodies fight with gluten and that result into intestinal lining that causes inflammation in the intestines and damages the villi. Villi are the most important part of intestine as all the nutrients are normally absorbed by the villi. If the villi are damaged, the person cannot absorb nutrients properly. That means that patient will have nourishment problems; generally, such patients find it hard to absorb nutrients like fat, calcium,

iron and folate, no matter how much one eats.

A Celiac patient (name withhold) says: “When I first came to know about it, I got a mixed kind of feeling. I felt now all is over and I’d better die soon, second I felt why I? I was very depressed and sad thinking how I got this disease and what can help me now. The real fear was my children, husband and other family members. I needed to inform them and ask them to get screened. Things didn’t seem easy so thinking was gradually destroying me. But it was the very moment I needed to stop all and focus to believing as at the end of the tunnel there is light, there is hope. Dietitians were the only hope. I felt like exploding with all my emotions and to beg for help. Indeed, having gluten free diet helped me in some ways but the fear that it can grow in my family tree is next to impossible to word.” Indeed, it is also important to have a genetic testing as the entire family is now at risk of this celiac disease as it is possible that they can have this disease sometime in their life. A simple genetic test can say whether further screening is required or not. If needed, then everyone must have regularly their antibodies screening. Genetic test can be done by blood test and will assure whether the person is carrying the genes which are responsible for the development of this disease. If this test says person or individual doesn’t carry any genetic predisposition then that person does not need to have regular antibodies test, else it is required. These genes are found in the HLA-class II complex and are called DQ2 and DQB. It is very important to note: The gene test does not diagnose celiac disease. It only tells that an individual has the possibility and carry a risk and needs to be closely monitored with antibody testing in the future. Indeed there are other factors which also play an important role in the development of this celiac disease. In fact, up to one-third of the US population has the genes for celiac disease. This means that people with DQ2 or DQ8 can develop celiac disease at any time. “Now I would also like to say that there is a link between celiac and type 1 diabetes disease as both carry the same genes. They both are autoimmune diseases. It is also found that approximately 4 to 9% of people with Type 1 diabetes will also have coeliac disease. There is no such risk associated with type 2 diabetes patients.” Says Sheela Seharawat. As we can see this disease has its roots very deep inside as it directly affects our DNA so finding cure is not so easy. If you have celiac disease it is very important to save yourself and others in your family too. If one child has it and the parent doesn’t have, even then there is a possibility that siblings may have this disease and it is important for parents to know which children need more attention.

Celiac disease is autoimmune disorder By Dietitian Sheela Seharawat

health Celiac disease is a diagnostic challenge It is a diagnostic challenge as it doesn’t have one or a few symptoms so that doctor could directly say it is due to celiac disease. Symptoms are very common so it can be mistaken for a problem due to small reason so the disease goes mostly unnoticed. Earlier it was assumed that it is only in European countries as they are very cold and the people there lack vitamin D which most Asian countries receive directly from the Sun but such belief has no legs. Celiac disease is also found in India. Study found that like anywhere else Indians are also suffering from this disease and need more awareness and tests so they can also live better life. A recent study found that more than one percent of Indian population is suffering from this disease like in any other country. This disease is very complicated in nature as it doesn’t give you anything such as clear indication that you can say one is ill badly but yes one continuously feels that there is something which is keeping one unhinged and unhealthy. Patient suffers from headache, fatigue, body aches and abdominal pains. Such vague symptoms can be due to a minor problem too so mostly patient feels that it is all just in their head and they can be fine if they do not think much about all these things. But in fact they are sick and need medical and dietary help.” Says dietitian Sheela Seherawat. They can be facing some other things too

“Majority of Celiac disease patients first read some or another articles then decided to go for a test and the test supported their doubt and finally they consult any dietitian. This is the situation in all over the world. ” By Dietitian Sheela Seharawat like low concentration, diffused joint pains and swelling, irritable bowel syndrome, slow nail and hair growth, intermittent chest discomfort and cystic acne. These problems are again often seen separately and doctors also do not consider it as a big issue. Some people go in another direction with treatment like antidepressants, stress management, and some sort of exercise but all this effort just runs down the drain with no positive results. Studies have found that Celiac disease can develop at any time during life. A person can have this disease right from 9 months to 99 years of age. Age is not an issue. The biggest challenge is that it can happen to infant babies too where it is hard to detect. There is a clear indication that Celiac patient can be overweight. Studies have found that 20% of people who had Celiac disease had constipation and 10% were suffering from obesity, however any body shape person can have this disease. Even thin person can have it. Celiac disease is a dangerous one and it is not something that one can just ignore as it can affect any part of the body like brain, reproductive system, bones, liver, joints, skin, and teeth. It is also seen that that patients of celiac disease have a higher risk of headaches than the general population. It is good to have a test of celiac disease if one is suffering from chronic headaches. It is also seen that patient of celiac disease do not necessarily have any digestive problem but they have other problems and they are suffering from diseases like arthritis, nerve inflammation (neuropathy), headaches, difficulty getting pregnant, and elevated liver enzymes. Some researchers are of the view that there is a link between celiac disease and headaches as

this disease makes inflammation that may spread to the brain and nervous system. There is also a possibility that it is due to deficiencies of vitamins B12, D, E, folic acid and pyridoxine or due to some bacterial imbalance in the body. Hence, it is not very easy to say by seeing some reports whether one has celiac disease or not. You can see all these diseases above don’t indicate or leave any clue even to a doctor that patient can have Celiac disease and these are its symptoms. That is why the actual diagnosis is very difficult and it can take year or decades to firmly diagnose. The test like endoscopy and small bowel biopsy definitely help in detecting this disease. As one patient is diagnosed with this Celiac disease then it is very important to take test of the other family members including children as there is a higher chance of having this problem in the family including aunts, uncles, cousins and grandparents. “These patients have to be very careful about their alcoholic intakes and so they have to know that they cannot drink any ordinary beer available in the market. In India I don’t think there is any beer which they can have. Yes, outside there are. They have some beers which are glutton free.” Says dietitian Sheela Seharawat. Patient finds a lot of problems in eating during their first 2 years or more as the whole range of food is changed. Indeed there are also some patients who get diagnosed with Celiac disease and have started taking gluten free (GF) diet and even after months still the symptoms and complications continue; this usually happens only due to cross- contamination. This is known as Non – responsive celiac diseases, (NCRD). New researches are also being done for celiac drugs that can prevent the NRCD. The best way to stay healthy after being diagnosed with Celiac disease is to stay away from gluten. It is necessary to eat gluten free diet and keep your kitchen clean of any gluten containing food.
