For many years The Beachside Resident has taken a strong stance in educating the residents of our community regarding the quality of our oceans and waterways, not just locally, but globally. We, as a beachside community, feel a deep connection to the ocean. It flanks our homes and commutes, misting us with it’s salty spray and beautifying our travels to and fro. The importance of its virtue resonates with us on a cellular level, as our very own bodies are mostly comprised of it. Why, then, do we continually struggle to improve our water quality issue? As a combat veteran I have seen and experienced many distressing events, however I won’t soon forget the days I watched thousands of fish suffocate to death in the Indian River lagoon.
Our lagoon is in serious trouble folks, and it’s going to take a tremendous effort in environmental stewardship to make a change.
