The Trouble Tree Mr A had hired a carpenter to restore an old farmhouse. The carpenter had just finished a rough first day on the job after a flat tire made him lose an hour of work, his electric saw quit, and now his ancient pickup truck refused to start. Mr A offered to drive the carpenter home and he sat in stony silence the entire while. On arriving home, he invited Mr A in to meet the family. As they walked toward the front door, the carpenter paused briefly at a small tree, touching the tips of the branches with both hands. After opening the door, he underwent an amazing transformation. His face was wreathed in smiles; he gave the family a nice warm hello and hugged his two small children. Afterward, he walked Mr A back to his car. They passed the tree and Mr A’s curiosity got the better of him and he asked about what he had seen him do earlier.
on the job, but one thing for sure, troubles don’t belong in the house with my wife and children. So I just hang them up on the tree every night when I come home. Then in the morning, I pick them up again.” “Funny thing is,” he smiled, “when I come out in the morning to pick them up, there aren’t nearly as many as I remember hanging up the night before.”

Cream Cheese Brownies Time to indulge with these super deluxe Cream Cheese Brownies combining your favorite brownie bar with a soft cheesy relish! Ingredients: • 2/3 cup unbleached all-purpose flour • ¼ tsp table salt • ½ tsp baking powder • 2 oz unsweetened chocolate • 4 oz bittersweet chocolate or semisweet chocolate • 1 stick unsalted butter (4 oz) • 1¼ cups granulated sugar • 2½ tsp vanilla extract • 3 large eggs • 8 oz cream cheese at room temperature • 1 egg yolk Directions: 1. Adjust oven rack to lower-middle position and preheat oven to 325 degrees. 2. Whisk flour, salt, and baking powder in a small bowl; set aside. 3. Coat an 8-inch-square baking pan with cooking spray and fit an 8-by-16-inch sheet of aluminum foil in bottom of pan. (NOTE: Foil overhangs both sides of the pan; use as handles to remove baked brownies from pan.) Coat foil with cooking spray. 4. In a medium heat-proof bowl set over a pan of almost simmering water, melt chocolate and butter, stirring occasionally until mixture is smooth. (Alternatively, melt chocolate and butter in microwave oven.) Remove melted chocolate mixture from heat; whisk in 1 cup sugar and 2 tsp vanilla; then whisk in 3 eggs, one at a time, fully incorporating each before adding the next. Continue whisking until mixture is completely smooth. Add dry ingredients; whisk until just incorporated.

5. In a small bowl, beat cream cheese with remaining ¼ cup sugar, ½ teaspoon vanilla and egg yolk until of even consistency. 6. Pour half the brownie batter into prepared pan. Drop half the cream cheese mixture, by spoonfuls, over batter. Repeat layering and swirling with remaining brownie batter and cream cheese filling. Use blade of a table knife or a spoon handle to gently swirl batter and cream cheese filling, creating a marbled effect. 7. Bake until edges of brownies have puffed slightly, center feels not quite firm when touched lightly, and a toothpick or cake tester inserted into center comes out with several moist, fudgy crumbs adhering to it, approximately 50 to 60 minutes. 8. Cool brownies in pan on a wire rack for 5 minutes. Use foil sling handles to lift brownies from pan. Place brownies on wire rack; allow them to cool to room temperature. 9. Refrigerate until chilled, at least 3 hours. (To hasten cooling, place brownies in the freezer for about 1½ hours.) Cut into squares and serve. (Do not cut brownies until ready to serve. Whole bar can be wrapped in plastic wrap, then foil and refrigerated for up to 5 days.) Yields: 16 2-inch brownies

Do Soft Drinks Cause Cancer?
We know that soft drinks aren’t healthy for many reasons — one of which is triggering weight gain. However, a study conducted in Singapore has us even more concerned. According to the study, drinking two or more sodas a week increased the risk for pancreatic cancer by 85% compared to nondrinkers. Scientists discovered this after tracking more than 60,000 middle-aged people for 14 years.
it’s used as an energy source. Unfortunately, cancer cells need insulin too. In fact, many cancers have insulin receptors which transport glucose to cancerous cells, helping them to grow, divide, and multiply. Studies show insulin encourages pancreatic cancer cells to grow in a dosedependent manner, meaning that higher amounts support increased growth. The Singapore scientists think this may be a reason why soft drinks are linked to pancreatic cancer.

Soft Drinks Cause Blood Sugar Spikes Why are soft drinks linked to cancer? Well, it may have to do with their high sugar content. A single soft drink may contain up to 41 grams of sugar, which is a lot to put into your body at once. This can cause your blood sugar levels to spike and your pancreas to release large amounts of insulin.

Los Angeles is the first major city to synchronize all their traffic lights! It’s no secret that Los Angeles has a major traffic problem. The heavy traffic can cripple commerce and quality of life, so the city has been actively looking for solutions to combat it. Things like car pool and toll lanes are supposed to help, but traffic is still a problem. Their newest attempt at the solution is something that no other major city has done. They’ve synchronized 4,500 traffic signals across 469 square miles. This means than you could theoretically drive across the city without ever hitting a red light. This has reduced the average time it takes to drive across the city from 20 to 17 minutes.
