Why Lincoln Was Called ‘Honest Abe’ In managing the country store, as in everything that he undertook for others, Lincoln did his very best. He was honest, civil, ready to do anything that should encourage customers to come to the place, full of pleasantries, patient, and alert.
weighed out a package of tea for a woman the night before, he saw that he had given her too little for her money. He weighed out what was due, and carried it to her, much to the surprise of the woman, who had not known that she was short in the amount of her purchase.
On one occasion, finding late at night, when he counted over his cash, that he had taken a few cents from a customer more than was due, he closed the store, and walked a long distance to make good the deficiency.
Innumerable incidents of this sort are related of Lincoln, and we should not have space to tell of the alertness with which he sprang to protect defenseless from insult, or feeble children from tyranny; for in the community in which he lived, the rights of the defenseless were not always respected as they should have been.
At another time, discovering on the scales in the morning a weight with which he had

Kitchen Tips and Tricks 1. Peel a banana from the bottom instead of the top and you won’t have to pick the stringy things off of it. That’s how primates peel their bananas!
you want a strong taste, add it at the end.
6. Cheese: If you store your opened chunks of cheese in aluminum foil, it will stay fresh much longer and not mold.
2. Banana Ripening: If you leave Bananas connected at the stem, they ripen faster than if you take them apart. 3. Peppers with 3 bumps on the bottom are sweeter and better for eating raw.
7. Reheating Pizza: Heat leftover pizza in a nonstick skillet on top of the stove. Use low-med heat until warm. This keeps the crust crispy unlike soggy pizza that results from microwave heating. 8. Easy Deviled Eggs: Put cooked egg yolks in a zip lock bag. Seal and mash till they are all broken up. Then, add remainder of ingredients, reseal and keep mashing it up until mixed. Then, cut the bottom corner of the bag to make a tip and pipe mixture into the egg. Throw away bag for easy clean afterward.
4. Peppers with 4 bumps on the bottom are firmer and better for cooking. 5. Garlic: Add garlic immediately to a recipe if you want a light garlic taste and if

Whole Milk Or Skim?
Study Links Fattier Milk To Slimmer Kids A new study of preschool-aged children published in the Archives of Disease in Childhood, a sister publication of the British Medical Journal, finds that low-fat milk was associated with higher weight. That’s right, kids drinking low-fat milk tended to be heavier.
Hospital in Boston, which also looked at preschool-aged children, found that higher intake of whole milk at age 2 was associated with a slightly lower BMI (body mass index). The researchers concluded that switching from whole milk to reduced-fat milk at 2 years did not appear to prevent weight problems in early childhood.
“We were quite surprised” by the findings, says Dr. Mark DeBoer. He and his co-author, Dr. Rebecca Scharf, both of the University of Virginia, had hypothesized just the opposite. But they found the relationship between skim-milk drinkers and higher body weights held up across all racial/ethnic and socioeconomic groups. DeBoer says their data also show that low-fat milk did not restrain weight gain in preschoolers over time.
TIP!
The study included about 10,700 children in the United States. Parents were interviewed about their child’s beverage consumption on two occasions: once when the children were 2 years old and again at 4 years. Direct measurements of height and weight (to calculate body mass index) were taken by researchers.

this is not the first study to point in this direction. In a 2005 study, researchers at Brigham and Women’s Hospital reported that skim and 1 percent milk were associated with weight gain among 9-to-14year-olds. And a 2010 study by researchers at Children’s T:347.927.4ADS(4237) F:718.799.9188 E: mail@thecoffeepaper.com

A pilot ejected his seat over a thunderstorm and survived a 45-minute fall! William Rankin is the only person known to have survived a fall from the top of a cumulonimbus thunderstorm cloud. Rankin was a pilot in the US Marine Corps and participated in both World War II and the Korean War. One day in 1959 he was flying from Massachusetts to South Carolina when he encountered a massive thunderstorm. He began to climb, attempting to fly over the worst of the storm, yet at 45,000 feet he heard a loud thump. The engine stopped, and a fire warning light flashed, and he was forced to eject his seat into the -58 degree Fahrenheit air. Frostbite hit immediately and the decompression was so intense that his eyes, ears, nose, and mouth started to bleed. Rankin began to fall to the ground and severely panic after five minutes had passed and his parachute still hadn’t deployed. With almost zero-visibility and surrounded by a massive thunderstorm, Rankin was extremely confused why he had still not hit the ground after ten minutes. Carried by updrafts and being pelted with hail, he realized that he was being dragged up and down in the wind, which lasted over 45 minutes! He says that although it sounds amazingly cool after the fact, during the event he was absolutely terrified.
