The Value of Knowledge The engine of a colossal ship was failing. The ship’s owners went from one expert to another. Yet, it seemed like none of them could figure out how to repair the faulty engine. Time elapsed and still the problem remained. Finally, someone recommended an old man who apparently was into the business of fixing ship engine’s since he was a young boy. The man came upon board lugging a large bag of tools. He immediately set to work and inspected the engine very carefully, his eyes scrutinizing every part. Two of the ship’s owners were present and as they watched the man they desperately hoped that he would be able to fix the engine. After some time, the old man reached into his bag and pulled out a delicate hammer. He gently tapped at something and instantly the engine powered up. He carefully put his hammer away. The engine was fixed! A week later, the ship’s owners received the invoice from the old man. They were simply astounded at the fee the old man requested. It stated ten thousand dollars. The owners exclaimed that the old man hardly did anything. They wrote him a note asking for an itemized bill. The bill arrived and it read: Tapping with a hammer…… …… ……… $ 2.00 Knowing where to tap……… …… ……… $ 9,998.00 Effort is important, but knowing where to make an effort, where to put in work, that makes all the difference! Keep working hard and never give up!

Are Eggs Healthy?
With the help of new research eggs are shaking off their bad reputation and reclaiming a spot on your healthy grocery list. Few foods have been subject to as much misguided bad PR as the humble egg. For decades we were told that the cholesterol in eggs clog our arteries, and that good nutrition meant sticking to egg white-only breakfast dishes, or cartons of egg replacement products—certainly whole eggs had no place on a healthy grocery list! But ordering an egg white-only omelet is so last decade! A new study in the British Medical Journal examined the data of 263,938 people and found no evidence that eating an egg a day increased the risk of heart disease or stroke at any age. This doesn’t surprise us, because we’ve learned a lot over the past few years

about how much of what we’ve been told about cholesterol is wrong. Eating foods high in cholesterol doesn’t automatically equal high cholesterol in our bodies (and high cholesterol levels in our blood aren’t always a bad thing, but that’s a topic for another article). And cholesterol aside, eggs are packed with good nutrition (especially the yolks). They contain choline, selenium, B vitamins and essential fatty acids. But some eggs are far healthier than others—eggs from chickens raised in small cages on factory farms and fed an unnatural diet of pesticide-laced, GMO soy aren’t going to provide the same diversity of nutrients as eggs from chickens left free to pasture and eat what nature intended. If you ever compare a pastured egg with a generic supermarket brand you’ll notice that the yolks of the pastured egg are a rich, bright yellow and the factory farm eggs are a pale imitation.

D.I.Y. Glimmer Paints Add food coloring to a simple mixture of flour, salt, and water and you get puffy, glossy paints that sparkle with salt crystals when dry. Use on finger-paint paper or other heavy paper and allow your paintings to air-dry overnight. Store leftover paints in the refrigerator in airtight containers for up to three days; stir or shake before using. Materials: ½ cup salt ½ cup all-purpose flour ½ cup water Food coloring Directions: • Mix together the salt, flour, and water; the mixture should be the consistency of pudding. • Add food coloring until the desired shade is reached, then use a funnel to transfer the paint to a squeeze bottle. You can also transfer the paints to a zip-lock bag and then snip off one tiny corner of the bag for a make-it-yourself applicator.

Over Your They say... Happiness is not something you postpone for the future; it is something you design for the present. Did you know...? Noise pollution can cause stress-related illness, hearing loss, sleep disruption, lost productivity, and high blood pressure. The EPA estimates that millions of people in the U.S. adversely suffer from noise pollution. Humor ;-)

The Kola Superdeep Borehole was a super hole drilled by Soviet scientists in the Soviet Union on the Kola Peninsula, hence the name. The project’s purpose was to see how deep they could drill into the Earth’s crust. They began drilling on May 24 of 1970 using the Uralmash-4E and then the Uralmash-1500 series drilling rig. They drilled a hole and then drilled several holes branching off from the main one. The SG-3 was the deepest hole from the branches drilled reaching 40,230 feet. To this day it is the deepest artificial point on Earth. The SG-3 was completed in 1989. They had to stop drilling, because the SG-3 hole became much too hot for the equipment to handle. The Earth’s crust radiated 356 degrees Fahrenheit at the 40,230 foot depth. The project was officially shut down in 2005 due to lack of funding. Everything from the site was scrapped and the site has been abandoned since 2008.
