Saying Good Bye There was once an elderly Chashuva Rosh Yeshiva who had difficulty walking due to excruciating pain in his legs. His Gabbai would pick him up each day and escort him to Shul by foot. The walk was an arduous journey for the Rosh Yeshivah and took him a long time to complete. One day, in the midst of walking, the Rosh Yeshivah motioned to his Gabbai and explained that he needed to go back home because he forgot something very important. The Gabbai tried to dissuade him and explained that maybe the matter could wait. Yet, the Rosh Yeshivah was insistent and headed back home with the Gabbai. Upon reaching his house,

he went over to his wife and said, “Good Bye” with a big smile on his face and then turned around and left. The Gabbai was in shock and asked the Rosh Yeshivah for clarification. The Rosh Yeshivah explained that he never left home without saying Good Bye to his Rebbetzin and on this occasion he had forgot. It’s the little acts, those little sparks of chesed that make our Gedolim so great!

Are Plastics “Microwave-Safe”?
Less than 0.1% of people can identify which plastics are (supposedly) safe for microwave cooking. In general, some plastics are reported safe for use in microwave cooking. If you use plastics in the microwave, identify the plastic and look for an indication that the particular container is microwave-safe. Do not use plastics which you have not identified and Do not use plastics which are not identified as “microwave-safe”. If it doesn’t clearly say “microwavesafe”, it probably isn’t. Even if marked as “microwavable”, the plastic should not be allowed to come into direct contact the food during the microwave cooking process. Background - What types of plastics are microwavable? Obviously, plastics vary in their chemical composition. What they have in common is that they are formed by chemical reaction. If used with food in a microwave, • they must not further react; • they must not decompose into the food; and • they must not leach out components into the food. The important thing is to identify those plastics which are microwave-safe. NSF, which certifies food-safe items, states: • Only use cookware that is specially manufactured for use in the microwave oven. Glass, ceramic containers, and all plastics should be labeled for microwave oven use.
• Microwave plastic wraps, wax paper, cooking bags, parchment paper, and white microwave-safe paper towels should be safe to use. Never use thin plastic storage bags, brown paper or plastic grocery bags, or aluminum foil in the microwave. Never microwave unidentified plastic wrap with food because some are PVC. But they seem to have gotten it wrong: 1. Glass does not cause food safety problems in a microwave, and is generally safe for use in a microwave. This includes such items as leaded glass. Glass is rarely labeled. 2. Ceramic is generally not labeled. There are some ceramic dishes which cause problems, either because of metal or because the glazing will become hot, but these do not decompose into food. Ceramic does not present food safety problems. 3. Many white paper towels are fabricated with plastics, and are not microwave safe. 4. Glass and ceramic are the preferred materials for use in a microwave oven. 5. They forgot to mention to keep plastics separate from the foodstuff. 6. They totally ignored paper plates. Plain paper is safe, but plastic coated paper is generally not microwave-safe. 7. They fail to mention bisphenol A (BPA), diisononylphthalate (DINP), and other plasticizers.
• Never use plastic storage containers such as margarine tubs, take-out containers, whipped topping bowls, and other one-time use containers for cooking or reheating food in your microwave. These containers are not heat resistant and can melt, possibly leaching harmful chemicals into your food.

Lasagna Roll Ups Yields: 8 servings Ingredients • 8 lasagna noodles, uncooked • 14 oz Mozzarella cheese, divided • 3/4 cup Ricotta cheese • 1 large egg white • 1/3 cup shredded Parmesan cheese • Freshly ground black pepper • 3 - 4 medium Roma tomatoes; thinly sliced (about 1/6 inch thick slices) • 1/4 cup chopped fresh basil, plus more for garnish • 1 cup marinara sauce • Simple Marinara Sauce • 2 Tbsp extra virgin olive oil • 1/4 cup finely chopped yellow onion • 2 cloves garlic finely minced • 1 (28 oz) can crushed tomatoes • Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste Directions • Preheat oven to 350 degrees. • Cook pasta according to directions listed on package to al dente. Drain pasta (DO NOT rinse with water) and align lasagna noodles in a single layer on a large sheet of parchment or wax paper. • In a large mixing bowl, whisk together ricotta cheese and egg white until well blended. Stir in Parmesan cheese. Mix in 12 oz of the Mozzarella cheese and season with black pepper to taste (seasoning with salt is not recommended as cheese has enough salt) • Place 1/4 cup of the cheese mixture over each lasagna noodle and spread into an even layer, going from one end of the lasagna to the other. Align 4 thin tomato slices over cheese mixture then sprinkle
fresh basil over top. Snugly roll lasagna noodles to opposite end. • Spread about 1/4 cup pasta sauce in the bottom of an 11 x 7 inch baking dish. Align lasagna roll ups, seam side down. Top each roll up with about 2 Tbsp of pasta sauce (covering edges of pasta so they don’t dry out while baking). Sprinkle top with remaining 2 oz. shredded Mozzarella. Bake for 30 minutes. Remove from oven, plate pasta and garnish with plenty of basil ribbons. Serve warm. Directions for Simple Marinara Sauce • Heat olive oil in a medium saucepan over medium high heat. • Add onions to hot oil and sauté for about 3 minutes until soft, adding garlic during last minute of sautéing. • Pour in crushed tomatoes and season with salt and pepper to taste. Bring mixture to a boil and then reduce heat to a simmer and allow sauce to cook for about 25 - 30 minutes (allowing some of the water in the crushed tomatoes to evaporate) while you prepare pasta and lasagna filling (you can freeze or refrigerate left over sauce in a small airtight container for later use, adding fresh basil if desired).

Over Your They say... Mistakes are always forgivable, if one has the courage to admit them. Did you know...?

In 1932, Ole Kirk Kristiansen was a master carpenter and joiner in Denmark and established his business in the village of Billund. He manufactured stepladders, ironing boards, stools, and wooden toys. His son, Godtfred began working for the business at age 12. In 1934, the company adopted the name LEGO, which was formed from the words “LEg GOdt” meaning “play well.” It wasn’t until later that it was realized LEGO means “to put together” in Latin. The firm only had six or seven people at that time. Godtfred cut Ole Kirk’s motto “Only the best is good enough” and hung it up in the workshop in 1936. In 1937, Godtfred was 17 and he began making his own models. The business grew to a whopping ten employees in 1939, but it continued to grow with time.

The Earth’s moon is 240,000 miles away. Earth’s next closest neighbor is Venus, which comes as near as 24 million miles. After the moon and Venus, Mars is our next closest neighbor at 34 million miles away—though when Mars and Earth are at the opposite sides of their orbits around the sun, they are separated by 249 million miles.
The word LEGO had a secret meaning that the makers didn’t know about!

SALVAGED THE SALE
“It’s not the first time that I’ve had a sale in my store” related the “Kollel Chatzos” partner. “Once a year I make a large sell-off which usually brings in lots of revenue and helps sustain the business for a long time.”
BRILLIANT|845-782-7988
“This year, as in the past, we once again announced our big annual sale. We invested in a huge marketing campaign with prominent ads and large discounts, and looked forward to a profitable week”. “But a halfway through the sale week,” he continued “things were not going as planned…It was as if we were standing in a desert without a person in sight…..the merchandise lay untouched and we were afraid that we would be “losing” money, let alone making any”. “When my son saw my predicament, he urged me to contact “Kollel Chatzos”, an organization consisting of a group of honorable men who immerse themselves in the task of helping people in crises by Torah and Tefillah at chatzos, and one that had personally benefited him already”.
