The Farmer Yankel, the farmer resided in a little Russian village and possessed an old horse for the use of tilling his fields. One day, the horse escaped into the hills and the farmer was left without his trusted horse. Word got out amongst the village that the horse had escaped and the entire neighborhood came to offer their condolences and sympathized with Yankel over his misfortune. The farmer did not seem to be too fazed and answered, “Who said this happening is for the bad? Perhaps it is for the good? Who truly knows?’ A week later, the horse returned with a herd of wild horses from the hills and this time the townspeople congratulated Yankel. His reply was, “Who knows about this happening? Who truly knows?”

Yankel’s son attempted to tame one of the wild horses and while at it, he fell off its back and broke his leg. The townspeople once again offered their sympathies. However, Yankel the farmer replied, “Who said this happening is for the bad? Perhaps it is for the good? Who truly knows?’ Several weeks later, the army marched into the village and conscripted every able-bodied youth except Yankel’s son with his broken leg. The farmer smiled RivkyWeber Bus Car4_RL.ai 1 7/14/10 4:51 PM and said, “Who truly knows?”

Health

Saturated Fats Or Trans Fats?

You’ve no doubt noticed that for about the last 60 years the majority of health care officials and the media have been telling you saturated fats are bad for your health and lead to a host of negative consequences, like elevated cholesterol, obesity, heart disease and Alzheimer’s disease. Meanwhile during this same 60 years the American levels of heart disease, obesity, elevated serum cholesterol and Alzheimer’s have skyrocketed compared to our ancestors, and even compared to modern-day primitive societies using saturated fat as a dietary staple. Did you know that multiple studies on Pacific Island populations who get 30-60 percent of their total caloric intake from fully saturated coconut oil have all shown nearly non-existent rates of cardiovascular disease?

the opinion that hydrogenated vegetable and seed oils should be avoided. These unsaturated fats, artificially manipulated into saturated fats, are also called trans fats, and no doubt you’ve heard about them lately. Some cities and states have now outlawed their use. There is no controversy anymore regarding the health dangers of these artificially saturated fats. And guess what? These are the same damaged trans fats that have been touted as “healthy” and “heart-friendly” for the last 60 years by the vegetable and seed oil interests! But the truth finally came out. Trans fat was rebuked, debunked, and revealed as the true enemy to good health that it has always been.

TIP!

Unfortunately, this rightful vilification Clearly, a lot of confusion and of hydrogenated saturated fats contradictory evidence exists has created a lot of confusion on the subject of saturated regarding naturally occurring Buyer beware: trans-fat fats, even among health care saturated fats, including coconut is often marketed as professionals. But the fact is, oil. If one form of saturated fat is partially hydrogenated all fats are not created equal. bad for you, the argument goes,

oil. Check your labels!

The operative word here is “created,” because some saturated fats occur naturally, while other fats are artificially manipulated into a saturated state through the man-made process called hydrogenation.

then all saturated fat must be bad.

Right? Nothing could be further from the truth. Natural saturated fat is a healthy fat unlike the man-made trans fat.

Hydrogenation manipulates vegetable and seed oils by adding hydrogen atoms while heating the oil, producing a rancid, thickened oil that really only benefits processed food shelf life and corporate profits. The medical and scientific communities are now fairly united in T:347.927.4ADS(4237) F:718.799.9188 E: mail@thecoffeepaper.com

Why we swing our arms when we walk A new study explains why people swing their arms as they walk, a seemingly unnecessary movement for which researchers have tried to find an explanation. The results showed that arm swinging, either normally or in the opposite direction, required little effort from the muscles. Instead of being muscledriven, arm swinging appears to arise from the natural dynamics, or passive dynamics, of the body as it walks. The experiments also showed that keeping the arms steady increased the effort of walking by 12%, the equivalent of walking 20% faster or carrying a 10 kg backpack. When the arms were bound at the sides, not as much effort was needed, which suggests that holding the arms down requires more exertion that letting them swing. Why would anyone spend their time researching this, you ask? Well, they hope that these findings will help develop better walking robots and also aid in physical therapy.
