RAV AHARON’S BLESSING World War Two was raging; its fire consuming all of Europe. Twenty four Rabbanim were held in Italy and faced being returned to Nazi-occupied Europe where certain death awaited them. Rav Aharon Kotler was determined to save these Rabbanim and he contact Irving Bunim, the well known Askan and pleaded with him to do something about the matter. Irving Bunim told Rav Kotler that the only one who could intercede was the Italian Mafia. Rav Kotler urged Mr Bunim to make contact with them immediately. After contacting the Mafia, Mr Bunim asked Rav Kotler who will be going to the meeting. Rav Kotler responded that they both would attend. They went to meet with Joe Bonnano, the head of the Italian Mafia. As Rav Kotler did not speak English, Mr Bunim clarified the problem for Mr Bonnano. The Mafia head questioned Mr Bunim as to who Rav Kotler is. Mr Bunim said that he is the Godfather of the Jewish nation. Mr Bonnano was astounded and requested a blessing. Rav Kotler promptly responded, “Zog eim eher zol leiben lang un shtarben in bet” (He should live long and die in bed). Irving Bunim translated the blessing for Joe

Bonnano and the Mafia head was pleased and promised to arrange the freedom of the twenty four Rabbanim which he indeed accomplished. Many years later, in 1964, a black limousine pulled up in front of Lakewood Yeshivah. Two fancy dressed men entered the Yeshivah and asked for Rabbi Kotler. Rav Shneur Kotler introduced himself and one of the Italian men said that they are looking for an older man. The Rosh Yeshivah explained that that was his father who passed away a few years ago. The men presented themselves as the Bonnano brothers and related that their father always attributed his long life to Rav Kotler’s blessing. They explained that upon their father’s retirement, they are taking over the business and they came for a blessing. Rav Shneur Kotler deferred and said that his father could do that but not him. The brothers were disappointed but understood and left. For saving the lives for the twenty four Rabbanim and with Rav Aharon Kotler’s blessing, Joe Bonnano lived to 97 years old.

Soft and Chewy Chocolate Chip Cookies Looking to use up your last packet of flour before Pesach? You cannot go wrong with these melt in the mouth chocolate chip cookies! Ingredients: • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour • 1/2 tsp baking soda • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, room temperature • 1/2 cup granulated sugar • 1 cup packed light-brown sugar • 1 tsp salt • 2 tsp pure vanilla extract • 2 large eggs • 2 cups (about 12 oz) semisweet and/or milk chocolate chips Directions: 1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. 2. In a small bowl, whisk together the flour and baking soda and set aside. 3. Using an electric mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, combine the butter with both sugars and beat on medium speed until light and fluffy. 4. Reduce speed to low; add the salt, vanilla, and eggs and beat until well mixed, for about 1 minute. 5. Add flour mixture and mix until just combined and then stir in the chocolate chips. 6. Drop heaping tablespoon-size balls of dough about 2 inches apart on baking sheets lined with parchment paper. 7. Bake until cookies are golden around the edges, but still soft in the center, approximately 8 to 10 minutes. 8. Remove from oven and let cool on baking sheet 1 to 2 minutes. 9. Transfer to a wire rack, and let cool completely. 10. Store cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 1 week. Yields: 3 dozen cookies

He would fail at one part and start again. He welded and painted and measured and slowly the car began to take shape. He originally estimated that it would take him five years to finish. It ended up taking him much longer. He did, however, achieve his goal of finishing the car by his 50th birthday. Imhoff then had to knock down a wall of his basement in order to get the car out. Now that he’s finished the Countach, Imhoff wants to sell it. He thinks that the building was the journey, and now he’s reached his destination. He’d like to pass it on to someone who would take good care of it. Any takers?
