Today is not yesterday By Yossy Gordon Today is not yesterday. Isn’t that pretty obvious? One of my favorite personalities among the great chasidic mentors is Rabbi Shmuel Betzalel Sheftel, known as Rashbatz (circa 1829– 1905). Rashbatz served as the childhood tutor of the sixth Chabad Rebbe, Rabbi Yosef Yitzchok Schneersohn (1880–1950). One of the stories he particularly enjoyed telling his young charge had an important lesson: In a small town in Russia lived a porter who made his living by transporting people and packages to and from the train station. The porter had a young son who assisted him with his work. Every morning the two would awaken very early, recite their morning prayers, eat breakfast, prepare the horse and wagon, and hit the road. During the summer months, when the sun often rose as early as 3:00 AM, the porter and his son awoke even earlier. The porter informed his son that today there would be no eating due to the fastA summer fast day arrived on the Jewish calendar. The porter roused his son at the usual time, and off to the synagogue they went. When they had finished

praying, the porter informed his son that today there would be no eating due to the fast. The day wore on. The son grew hungrier and hungrier. He began to ask his father incessantly when they would finally eat. Finally, the day ended and his hunger was satisfied. The following morning, the boy refused to budge when his father tried to wake him. With an air of indignation the boy told his father, “I do not want to get up, and I do not want to work. I am afraid that you will not let me eat anything today either!” “Ah, my son, have no fear,” replied the porter. “Today is not yesterday.” Whenever Rashbatz told this story, he would tap his listener on the shoulder, as if to exclaim, “Get up! Get up! Today is not yesterday!” BY YOSSY GORDON Rabbi Yossy Gordon was born in Worcester, Mass., and serves as Executive Vice President of the Chabad on Campus International Foundation. Rabbi Gordon makes his home in Miami Beach, Fla., with his wife, Rochel, and their six children.

The Ultimate Natural Cold Prevention Guide
Cold season is here. Are you prepared? The cold season usually starts around late August and ends somewhere close to April.
beforehand. In fact, a study showed that five months of zinc supplementation actually prevented the common cold.
Fortunately, if you haven’t caught whatever is lingering in your office yet, there’s still time to save yourself from that dreaded cold.
Zinc may prevent the attachment of coldcausing viruses to your nasal wall. It also activates your T-cells (immune fighting cells). As a result, your body is prepared to fight infection.
Don’t wait until the onset of your cold symptoms to take action. Instead, take the nutrients below throughout the cold season as a serious measure of prevention. . Vitamin D Lowers Your Cold Risk The first thing you need to consider is vitamin D During the cold season, your body makes less vitamin D depending on where you live. Due to the earth’s tilt, the sun’s UVB rays, which normally trigger vitamin D production, are blocked by the earth’s atmosphere. Several studies have shown that people with low vitamin D levels are more likely to get colds. In one study, children given 300 IU of vitamin D daily were less likely to become infected. Vitamin D boosts our innate defenses. It combines with Vitamin D receptors to trigger an immune response that may be effective against influenza infection. Your best bet is to take between 5,000 to 10,000 IU daily (depending on blood testing). This is the amount that is most likely to give you optimal levels.
Yes, Echinacea Really Does Work We’re pretty sure you’ve heard about echinacea, but the reason we mention it here is that there is strong evidence for its use. In fact, a recent doubleblind, placebo-controlled trial showed that four months of echinacea supplementation prevented people from catching a cold. Another study, but this time a review, showed that echinacea was effective in preventing colds in five out of six trials. The Bottom Line Prevention is your best defense against the common cold. Instead of taking a multitude of over-the-counter drugs or supplements when your symptoms kick in, take measures beforehand!
Take Zinc Before Cold Symptoms Arrive Taking zinc is usually advised upon the onset of a cold. But you don’t have to take zinc while you have cold symptoms. You

Crock Pot Honey Sesame Chicken A guaranteed success for a delicious, appetizing meal! Serves 4 Ingredients: 6-8 boneless, skinless chicken thighs or 4 chicken breasts (about 2 pounds) Salt and pepper to taste 1/2 cup diced onion 2 cloves garlic - minced 1 cup honey 1/4 cup ketchup 1/2 cup low-sodium soy sauce 2 tbsp vegetable oil/olive oil 1/4 tsp red pepper flakes 4 tsp cornstarch 1/3 cup water 2 packets minute rice (optional) 1/2 tbsp (or more) sesame seeds 3 scallions - chopped Directions: Place chicken in the Crock Pot and lightly season both sides with salt and pepper. In a medium bowl, combine onion, garlic, honey, ketchup, soy sauce, oil and red pepper flakes. Pour over chicken and cook on low for 3-4 hours/high for 2 hours. Remove chicken and place on a cutting board, leaving sauce in the Crock Pot. Shred chicken into bite-sized pieces; set aside. Prepare rice according to package instructions. In a small bowl, dissolve 4 tsp cornstarch in 1/3 cup water; add to crock pot. Stir to combine with sauce. Cover and cook sauce on high for ten more minutes/until slightly thickened. The Pyrenean ibex was a sub-species of the Spanish ibex, also known as the Iberian wild goat. They are endemic to the Iberian Peninsula. The Pyrenean ibex was most often found in Southern France and in the Northern Pyrenees mountains. In 2000, the Pyrenean ibex went extinct as a scientist tried to clone DNA from one of the last females. For seven minutes the Pyrenean ibex became un-extinct and then the clone died. It was the only species to ever become un-extinct, nonetheless. The last Pyrenean ibex was a female named Cecilia. She was found dead in 2000 next to a fallen tree. Her cause of death is unknown specifically. They are the second of the four sub-species of Spanish ibex to become extinct. They died off due to high hunting pressures apparently. Competition with domestic and wild ungulates contributed to the extinction of Pyrenean ibex, as well.
