Every Person Has His Own Mission In yesterday’s column we related R’ Meir’s dilemma about his unique davening abilities versus his rabbinical duties. In response, this is the story the Chortkover Rebbe related to him: During one of the tzaddik R’ Zushe’s many self-imposed exiles, he arrived at a certain town. There, he discovered a certain R’ Yoizef, an incredible Torah scholar who would deliver intricate Torah lectures. R’ Zushe soon attended one of his lectures and approached him afterwards to commend him on his shiur. “It is worth it for people to come here from all over the world to hear such words of Torah,” he told him. R’ Yoizef, sensing that the man standing before him was not an ordinary person, asked R’ Zushe about his identity. “I’m just a simple Jew,” R’ Zushe replied. But R’ Yoizef persisted. “Who are you. What do you know?” he asked. “I know how to daven,” R’ Zushe relented.

“Well, I can teach you what it really means to daven.” And so, the two great people spent a long time conversing, with R’ Zushe expanding on the depths and the powers inherent in prayer. When they were done, R’ Yoizef stood up and declared, “It is worth it for me to give up all of my Torah merely in order to experience a real davening.” But R’ Zushe objected. “Every human being was created with his own unique characteristics and talents. Why is that so? Because every person has his own mission to accomplish on this world, and he is given the personality and abilities that will allow him to do that. You Reb Yoizef,” R’ Zushe concluded, “have an incredible ability to learn and teach Torah. Because that is what you do best, that is what you must keep on doing.” And that was the message the Chortkover Rebbe wished to relay to R’ Meir Shapiro.

Supplementing Your Die t Is keeping to a healthy diet regimen enough to supply our body with all the nutrients it needs or do we need to supplement? Most conventional nutritionists will tell you that if you eat a “balanced diet” (whatever that means…) then there is no need to supplement. Just like us, the animals from which we take our meat also have to get thier nutrients from good quality food. But the reality is that, in their quest to save money and fatten up the cows, farmers feed them corn when cows really should be eating grass. This causes the cows to become nutritionally imbalanced and thus we get less of the right stuff. Plus there is also the issue of the cows being given antibiotics and hormones. • Toxins. Studies prove that we are all full of toxins. There are many reasons for this. The foods we eat are full of chemicals, and fruits and vegetables are sprayed with herbicides and pesticides. The meat we eat is full of hormones and antibiotics, the

cleaning stuff we use for our bodies, clothes and homes are full of toxins as well, and the environment is too, is full of toxins. The heavy toxic loads on our bodies cause us to become deficient of many nutrients. • Stress. Stress can also take a heavy toll on our bodies’ nutrient reserves, and who isn’t stressed today? These reasons plus the fact that, in general, people don’t maintain the healthiest diets and don’t exercise enough, should really lead you to consider if you are indeed not nutrient deficient.
