Candida’s Not Always Easy To Spot Candida is one of the most difficult conditions to correctly diagnose because there is no one particular part of the body it affects. You may read about white spots at the back of the mouth or an itchy vagina but there are plenty of other ways you can have it without knowing for sure and even doctors can misdiagnose and treat the symptom rather than the cause. A person may have candida without even knowing they have it but there are clues in many dozens of ways starting with the way you feel. A person normally good natured may suffer any emotion from anger to depression, panic attacks to extreme fatigue or even the opposite and hyperactivity. Other candida symptoms may involve a person’s digestion with any number of upsets from bloating to stomach cramps, indigestion and acid reflux. On the skin there may be an unexplained episode of psoriasis, eczema and nail fungus infection. The list goes on with urinary problems to weight loss or gain, headaches and heart palpitations, so it’s easy to see that an early recognition of the condition is very hard to spot as many of the above symptoms and more can be attributed to a number of other problems. If you suspect you may have candida you should discuss with your doctor and hopeful he or she will not start you off on a course of medicine to counter the wrong diagnosis such as IBS, Gastroenteritis or even Cohn’s disease. A misdiagnosis can actually make the candida worse as you may be prescribed cortisone and this means a boost of steroids into the gut and that can actually encourage further growth of the candida yeast. We probably all carry the Candida albicans microorganism on our skin and in our gut but it normally lives symbiotically with all the other bacteria that we host. Something triggers an outbreak of this yeast that as part of the fungi family can multiply very quickly.
Our warm and wet innards provides the perfect breeding ground for all these different bacteria that in many cases are highly beneficial to our digestion and in some ways it’s miraculous that there are not more instances of any of them breeding out of control. A sufferer of candida should do some research on suggested diets as well as taking the right medicine. Some sufferers swear by many of the natural supplements available but most of all avoidance is the best way if only we knew what started it. As yeast it’s also important to remember that sugar is a favourite food for these little organisms so clearly this is something to avoid as much as possible.
