Colostrum: It Isn’t Just for Babies

• Colostrum is produced by the mammary glands in females in order to provide their young with nutrients and antibodies to give them the best start. In humans, colostrum is a high source of protein for newborns as well as having a high amount of vitamin A and sodium chloride. It acts as a very mild laxative in order to help the little one pass their first stool and it contains antimicrobial factors, such as antibodies, that boost their immune system. It also contains growth factors which promotes the development of the gut, thus creating good bacteria and a healthy digestive tract; this is the child’s first level of protection against viruses and other pathogens.

Colostrum has an endless amount of health benefits for young ones and, thanks to modern day science, adults can also reap the benefit of this amazing elixir. So, what is colostrum calming complex? It is sourced from bovines, which are a type of cow, and has more immuno-factors than humans, giving the body’s immune system a boost; it is also known to elevate moods, eliminate fatigue, have immense anti-aging properties, allow the body to heal tissue and wounds quicker and support the nervous system.

With over 90 nutritional components, colostrum is incredibly effective at fighting off invaders of our body, such as viruses, funguses, bacteria and yeast. Of the 90 antibodies, 20 of them are specially formulated to combat certain pathogens such as rotavirus, staphylococcus, E.Coli, Candida, salmonella and cryptosporidia, while the PRP, Proline-rich Polypeptide, is key in supporting both an overactive and underactive immune system which occurs in autoimmune diseases. With this support in place, healthy tissue is able to grow, the immune system is boosted and the body is kept well guarded from illnesses.

• The growth factors that are contained in colostrum are incredibly important to our body; they are key in building and restoring muscle, cartilage, nerve tissue, connective tissue, bone and skin. They can also aid in burning fat for the body to use as energy, increase the amount of lean muscle in the body as well as heal wounds quickly and effectively. Growth factors can also do the following to our bodies:-

• When applied directly to the skin, growth factors that are contained in colostrum heal the skin. • They use fat for fuel when the body is dieting instead of burning muscle tissue as well as building and retaining muscle mass when the host is not dieting. • Growth factors regulate chemicals such as serotonin and dopamine which affect our moods. • They also regulate the blood glucose levels and chemicals in the brain which promotes longer periods of concentration and alertness. • As well as repairing muscle, bone, skin and several different types of tissue around the body, growth factors are essential for repairing and looking after the RNA and DNA in our bodies.
