Editors Note... This month we have put together a magazine focused on the approaching summer and how to prepare for it. I love the summer and I can’t wait for it to arrive in full force. Whilst writing this in May we have yet to experience more than a few days in a row with clear blue skies and beach hot weather. So my longing for the summer to arrive is reflected in this months magazine, especially the front cover. I cant wait for the weekends on the beach with the kids and BBQ’s with friends sipping cocktails (hence the picture!). Turn to pages 54-65 to see how you can prepare for the summer from safe sunbathing, diet tips and how to make your house more saleable in the warmer climate. Also, if you are looking for some summer entertainment don't forget to buy your CAMPO Charity Summer Ball ticket now priced at 25 euro.

panish contestants who won the TV competition, Cifras y Letras’ a popular TV quiz during the year 2011 have still not been paid, in some cases as much as 8,000 €. The reason is the production company for the programme is in bankruptcy proceedings. According to the contract signed, the company should pay the winning contestants, and the stations which emitted the programme, Telemadrid and Canal Sur both say they have no debts with the Vamos a Ver TV production company.

2 year old Sean Connery has been given six months to answer questions about the sale of his Marbella home Casa Malibu in 1999 or face being arrested. The Connery couple had owned the property for 20 years and sold it for a reported 5.5 million €.The judge thinks that there were irregularities in the sale, and he is investigating 17 people in what has become known as the ‘Goldfinger’ affair. Among the 17 are the ex Marbella Mayor, Julián Muñoz and the real estate planning chief in the

Marbella Town Hall, Juan Antonio Roca, both of whom are wrapped up in other corruption cases. After the sale a block of 72 flats were built on the site, despite planning permission for only 5 houses. The development gained a 53 million € profit, which is understood to have been sent offshore. Spanish tax officials think that Connery and his wife had dealings with a company involved in the scheme and a developer called ‘By the sea’. Both companies had the same lawyers, and many lawyers are also under scrutiny in the case. The judge in the case has been trying to interview Connery, who now lives in the Bahamas, for some years. At the last attempt in October 2010 Connery said he was too ill to travel. So now, three years on the judge has lost his patience and given Connery six months to explain the details of his house sale. If they don’t respond reports indicate that it is likely that the judge will add them to the list of the already accused, and International Arrest Warrants will be issued for Connery and his wife.Connery’s wife, Micheline Roquebrune, is reported to have said some years ago that ‘the

ongress approved the reform of the controversial 1988 Ley de Costas, Coastal Law.Under the new law those who own property very close to the coastline can remain there for another 75 years. The coastal protection zone will reduce from 100 metres to 20 metres in some circumstances.170 amendments were placed before this reform but it was passed with the votes of the Partido Popular and Catalan CiU. The PP has defended the text says it is ‘protection for the coastline’, and saying it will avoid cases such as the half-built hotel Agarrobico , part of which is built less than 25 metres from the beach. However many nongovernmental organisations have described the reform as an ‘amnesty’ and a step more towards the privatisation of the Spanish coastline. In fact there are 12 areas of coastline where the law indeed gives amnesty from the regulations of the maritime public land close to the shore. Across Andalucía as a whole 4,604 houses will be saved, with 863 chiringuitos and 109 hotels. The Government delegate for Andalucía said the new reform avoids the ‘barbarities’ of the previous law. Some expat property owners will benefit from the reform, which clears the confusion about possible demolition under the 1988 law.

A

man has been placed on two years' probation after shooting his nine-year-old cousin at a Hallowe'en party after confusing her for a skunk. Thomas Grant, from New Sewickley Township, Pennsylvania, USA, wounded the girl on October 20 last year during a bonfire. Police claimed that the 25-year-old had been asked by his mother to take care of a skunk in the back garden. But he managed to hit the girl who was dressed in dark clothing with a white tassel on a hat. She was flown to a children's hospital in Pittsburgh and underwent surgery for spinal and organ injuries, according to the police report. Grant's lawyer said that the child was hit with about 100 bird shots and is still under medical supervision. She has to be regularly tested for lead poisoning. He called the shooting a "tragic accident.”

became a problem week-round. When he started to take allergy medicine, the runny nose failed to clear up. After 18 months, he eventually sought the opinion of a specialist after an embarrassing incident in which a dollop splashed on to blueprints for model aeroplanes. Rather than a runny nose, doctors found that the membrane surrounding Mr Nagy's brain had a hole in it and his brain fluid was leaking out. Peter Nakaji, a neurosurgeon at Barrow Neurological Institute, told My Fox Phoenix that the brain produces up to 12 ounces of brain fluid a day.

It could offer hope to millions affected by male pattern baldness or just the thinning of hair through old age or for medical reasons. Already demand for the new treatment has seen salons taking thousands of pre-orders even though the recommended three month treatment costs nearly £300. After 90 days researchers claim that the liquid "Kérastase Densifique", when applied to the roots, can promote the growth of more than 1500 new hairs.

Tanera Mor lies 1.5 miles off the north west coast of Scotland and is the largest and only inhabited island in the Summer Isles archipelago. It has just nine residential properties, a café, a post office and three jetties. WINE BATTLE IN HARO, LA RIOJA Wacky Wine Fight

E

very year on June 29th, the town of Haro, in the heart of La Rioja is the site of a major battle. Hundreds of Spaniards celebrate by soaking each other with wine, using any means possible. Squirt guns, sprayers, boxed wine and bottles are used to wet everyone within range. Early in the morning people head out of town, on foot or by car through the vineyards and up the side of a mountain to San Felices. They make the hike up the mountain, and celebrate mass for their city's patron saint. Most dress in white from head to toe, and tie the traditional red handkerchiefs around their necks. They carry wine - in bottles, bota bags, boxes, squirt guns and even sprayers with backpacks. The mass ends and the battle begins in the hills and on the road back down to town. As everyone returns to town, they circle the

14 The Grapevine

main plaza while bands play typical music. Lots of visitors park in the vineyards outside of town, and walk the rest of the way. So many cars try to park in the fields that the police direct traffic. Even walking the road through the vineyards is fair game for being squirted with wine. Recommendations - If You're Going... If you are going to attend the Battle, we have the following suggestions: Dress in White - Like the saying goes, "When in Rome, do as the Romans." In this case, that means you should dress in white, at least in an old white t-shirt. If you don't, you'll stand out like a sore thumb and become more of a target. Bring a Change of Clothing - No matter what, you'll get wet, so

bring a change of clothing because it is brisk in the morning when your clothing is soaking wet. That means a change of shoes and socks, too! Bring a Towel - Bring an old towel, so you can at least dry your hands and face. Come Armed - Be sure to bring a large squirt gun or bota (wine skin) filled with red wine. If you don't, you'll feel frustrated after being squirted a few times with wine, and wish you could "squirt back. Bring Large Trash Bags - Trash bags? Yes! You'll need them! Many people cover their car's front bucket seats with large trash bags because they don't change their clothes until they get back into town. Trust us, you don't want to sit on the seats, rental or not, in wine-soaked clothing. Cover the seats in plastic and bring an extra bag for your wet clothes.

FIESTA DEL AGUA Y JAMON Wacky Water Fight!

L

anjaron is located in the south of Spain in Andalusia. The nearest city is Granada famous for the Alhambra palace which is about an hour bus ride from this tiny hillside community. Lanjaron is famous for their natural springs water. If you have travelled around Spain and bought some bottled water, you may have seen their bottles. Lanjaron has several different springs located around the town. These fountains are pouring out water year round. The community knows each spring holds special powers. They believe one is for health, so if they are sick they drink from that spring. Another one may have fertility powers, and another one is the secret ingredient in making a batch of

16 The Grapevine

paella. So they celebrate these springs each year. Every June the Midsummer’s Eve, the streets of this small town run with water and the community swells with people from nearby towns and cities. They gather in the city center at midnight on June 23rd for a water fight of epic proportions. It is to honor Saint John the Baptist and him baptizing Christ with water. The clock strikes midnight and fireworks blast into the night sky starting the water war. Water guns, hoses, buckets, anything goes if it can soak someone. The only safe place in the small town is inside the bar. If you are not inside the bar at midnight, you won’t be able to get in. They lock all the doors to every house and

store. There is no place to hide. If you decide to go into the bar, you cannot leave and participate in the battle. The springs are the main places of battle. Everyone gathers there for ammunition. Water falls from overhead as elderly women hide up there and dump buckets of water on the helpless victims below. No place is safe, be prepared to get soaked. The war ends after an hour at 1 am with no winners. Then everyone dries and changes clothes followed by beer and free tapas. If you have the chance, this festival is a blast to participate in. The locals are great and friendly, especially after they soak you.

chocolate and strawberry cheesecake looked; we were all too full to try it. Actually, now as I think back (you must appreciate that the meal also involved some beer and wine) I also had the lion's share of the cheesy garlic bread and then finished off my wife's (who's a bit of a lightweight) burrito; that's why I didn't try the cheesecake!

garlic bread. The plan was to share but being a humus fan I ate most of it. The portions were generous and the home cooked food was tasty which boded well for the main course.

Fernan, his ever smiling wife Isabel and family offer wonderful Spanish hospitality in their bar situated behind the Ayuntamiento in Cómpeta. The recently refurbished interior opens onto a large secluded terrace surrounded by a collection of potted plants. The tranquil plaza is ideal for families as it is traffic free and totally self-contained with enough space for the children to have fun without impacting on the quiet relaxed atmosphere.

For our second course we chose burritos with spicy wedges, chicken fajita, Indonesian matsaman curry and a Thai green prawn curry. Mine was the cheese-topped fajita which filled with chicken, bacon and creamy subtly spiced sauce served with spicy potato wedges. It was and was really good and not like I was expecting, as usually fajitas contain fairly dry meat with peppers and onion. Everybody else enjoyed their food and agreed the portions were very generous. Other dishes on the menu included Tex Mex, Indian and kebabs.

For our first course we each chose a different starter, from the selection of dishes from around the world. We tried the Mediterranean humus and black olives with flat bread, a huge basket of Oriental prawn crackers with sweet chilli sauce and cheesy

The Friday night Spice Night menu will change every week and based on the meal we ate offers tasty food and is excellent value for money. I would definitely recommend the chicken fajita. Many of the spice night dishes appear as specials on the regular menu, which also offers choice of traditional starters, main courses and puddings and tapas and light bites such as oven baked jacket potatoes. Isabel and Fernan have lots of plans for this coming summer. The plaza behind the bar is an ideal outdoor venue. With its proximity to both the church and the town hall it is an ideal setting for Weddings and civil ceremonies. On and on Friday, August 9th will host CÓMPETA ROCKS, a spectacular summer evening of music and entertainment including GU!R!, Vagablonds, The African Drummers, Geoff Murrell and Megan Rose. An inflatable Rodeo Ride will provide an interesting side attraction for those brave enough to take to the saddle! Tickets are priced at just 12.50€ to include a welcome drink table snacks and 2 course meal. Throughout the summer they are also planning flamenco nights featuring a variety of talent and scrumptious Spanish food. The first of these evenings will be Saturday June 8th when you can dine alfresco, to the haunting sound of a flamenco guitarist. The evening will cost 18 per couple for paella and a jug of sangria .Warm summer evenings. Sangria. Tasty food. Flamenco. Welcome to Spain.

DAY FOR LIFE... ADDING LIFE TO DAYS More money raised for Cudeca

A

t the end of April, many people from our local community came along and joined “Day for Life” – a family fund raising day in aid of our Cudeca Cancer Care Hospice. The day commenced for those who wanted to participate with Walk for Life, now in its eighth year. For the first time, there was a choice of three walks; two longer ones of four and six hours respectively starting from Canillas de Albaida and walking around the stunning mountain range, Sierra de Almijara above the village kindly guided by Joost Schepel of www.walkspain.co.uk Twelve walkers tackled these routes and one group encountered Sun, Rain, Hail and Snow!! Forty seven people including seven children and eleven dogs joined the third walk, 5km around the village of Competa. Once again, the children created a race

which Carla Gray won. The event then extended into Day for Life at The Alberdini Rural Hotel, Competa with entertainment for both adults and children. On arrival at the Alberdini, the walkers were given a refreshment pack courtesy of Remy's catering. A dedicated children's area, kindly sponsored by La Boutique, Sugar and Spice and Eroski City, all of Competa kept the children amused with face painting, tin can alley, lucky dip, cake decorating, nail bar together with non-alcoholic cocktail bar. The children also enjoyed the Tombola stall where fifty prizes were generously donated by local businesses and residents; Alberdini, La Bodega, La Casona, Jill Caldwell, Kevin Deavin, John Etheridge, EGO Hair and Beauty, Kelly Maynard, La Esquina de Miguel, Nicola (Zumba), La Taberna de Oscar, Perico, Sue Robinson, Sugar & Spice, Taberna – Teteria Hierbabuena, and Ellie Wright.

Thank you all so much. As always, the home-made cake stall was a sell-out, especially the cupcakes! At lunch time, Enmanuel, Lola and Ceferina of The Alberdini, prepared and cooked a wonderful “paellagigante” which everyone enjoyed for only €.5 a portion of which €.2 was donated to Cudeca. Another very popular stall was the Marmalady with a huge selection of natural produce Jams, Marmalades, pickles and chutneys. You could buy almost anything from the bric-a-brac stall; toys, books, ornaments, pictures, clothes, CDs and even a fondue set etc etc. Local crafts were exhibited; homemade soaps by Rosa, soaps by Carolina &Virgilio, handmade jewellery by Ana Isabel and wooden carvings by Peter Higham, who also gave wood

turning demonstrations. Jenny Wright, therapist gave reflexology and massages, which I can thoroughly recommend. Although we had two short sharp rain showers, they didn't dampen people'senthusiasm for the day and after briefly moving inside, returned outside to the sunshine. The day concluded with a Darts Tournament organised by Geoff Tyler where sixteen individuals fiercely competed for the €20 cash prize. Sam Fullylove won the final with Tim Gallon as runner-up. El Pilon sponsored the wine for all the semi-finalists; Sam and Tim together with Scott McQuillon and Steve Twiselton. At the time of going to press, the Cudeca tins are being counted at the Hospice and I am still collecting walker's sponsor money. Two of the children; Carla Gray and Jack Watson deserve a special mention as between them they raised €. 450 sponsor money, well done! Please see July edition

A Day for Life by Sam Benson “At the Day for Life, we've got to have, A section for the kiddies. So volunteers that's what we need, A pair of daft old biddies”. And so it was, Karen and Sam, Our names just sprang to mind! It must be said, we aren't that old, A little daft but kind! They were sure that we'd be perfect And do a sterling job. And if it all got riotous, We could stop an eager mob!! So next we met to have a think, Our notebooks at the ready. We decided on a cocktail bar, And a place to buy a teddy! Now, “Something for the girls” we thought, “We'll make a nail bar” The girls will look so pretty, And feel just like a star.

of Grapevine for total amount raised. Days like this would not be possible without my fantastic team of helpers; twenty three at this event, the generosity of Inez and Enmanuel providing the venue and Geoff Murrell providing the entertainment of live music. Many, many thanks to you all. Fundraising events such as Day for Life enable Cudeca to continue to provide adding life to days through their “special kind of caring” palliative care to over 6000 advanced cancer patients throughout the province of Malaga. Thank you to everyone who came along and supported the day. Cindy Jones Cudeca Volunteer.

And the boys we can't forget, Our ideas we must rally. We finally decided that, We'd build a Tin Can Alley!! Then lastly on our list of fun, Were cakes for decorating. And not forgetting Lucky Dip And a bit of facial painting!! The next two weeks went in a flash, So much had to be done. With paints and paper, glitter too, We had a lot of fun! And finally, the day arrived, We were a little fraught. We drafted in some helping hands, Praying things went as they ought! But anyway, it was great fun, And funds came rolling in. The happy parents with their kids, Filled our collection tin. The only thing that's left to say, For CUDECA here in Spain. Is, “Next year rain, be good to us”. source: pintprice.com

A DINOSAUR OF A TREE -THE QUEENSLAND BOTTLE TREE. CAMPO CUTTINGS by lorraine cavanagh.

O

ne of the most fantastical trees, for me, has to be the brachychitonrupestris, Queensland bottle tree or kurrajoong and, luckily, it's one of the trees we can grow here. Brachychitonis from the Greek brachymeaning short and

46 The Grapevine

chitona tunic which refers to the hairy, and extremely irritating, coat which lines the seedcases. Rupestris means growing among rocks. Itis a genus of 31 species, 30 being native to Australia and the last endemic to Papua New Guinea. The one we probably know best is b.populneuswhich is a popular

street tree planting. It is tough but not, perhaps, the most exciting unlike another member of the family, b.acerifolius, more popularly known as the Illiwarra flame tree, with its magnificent scarlet flowering occasionally planted around here as a specimen tree. But the Queensland bottle tree, whilst

To advertise call 637 028 873

more sombre, is equally striking in a sort of pre-historic way with its massively swollen trunk; fossils have been found dating back some 50 million years, so this is a real survivor of a plant and it does this by storing water in its trunk (known as a pachycaul) which, unlike most trees, is made up of a spongy fibre capable of absorbing s huge amount of water, swelling into its typical bottle-like form. Found growing naturally in dry areas of central Queensland and New South Wales, it is tolerant of a wide range of conditions, supporting temperatures ranging between -10C and 50C. In times of extreme hardship, it may drop all its leaves to conserve water, re-leafing as conditions improve. It can grow to 18m high but, in cultivation, is much more commonly seen at 4m to 8m tall with a canopy spread of, perhaps, 6m. Clusters of creamy yellow or pale pink bell-shaped flowers with spotted throats are borne in clusters and followed by tough woody boat-shaped seed pods. As feature trees, they are wonderful. They are very clean trees, their roots, surprisingly perhaps, are not aggressive and they will not 'steal' water from their neighbours as they have their own private supply! They will grow quickly to around 3m tall, forming that distinctive bottle shape during the first 5 years. Plenty of water, at this stage, will encourage quick growth. From then on, growth slows dramatically. They become totally drought tolerant, very

wind resistant and are certainly hardy enough for our conditions. They can also be grown in pots, forming fantastical shapes, and are highly valued as bonsais. But this tree isn't only famous for its fairy-tale appearance; Aborigines and early settlers used them to help survival. The roots, stems bark and, especially, the seeds have all been used as a source of food. The seed pods would be roasted whole to burn off the sharp hairs; the seeds were a high protein source. The fibrous bark was used to make rope. The common name kurrajongcomes from the Dhankword for fishing line as nets and lines were woven from the tree fibres. The Aborigines also carved holes into the soft bark to release the inner reservoir of water. Later settlers also learnt to recognise the tree – though here is the difference! Instead of 'farming' the tree for water like the indigenous people, they cut them down and peeled off the bark in huge chunks. Apparently a large tree could satisfy a large herd of cattle for many weeks! Propagation is relatively simple from seed – though you'll have a long wait to get a substantial tree – simply plant them fresh in compost and keep moist. This is a tree, rather like yuccas and palms, that can be dug up large-sized and many years old and they transplant quite easily. They will survive out of the ground for, at least, 3 months and, in the past, many mature and semi-mature specimens were shipped out of Queensland all

over the world. Nowadays they are a protected species in the wild. We've got some great young trees in the garden centre, so if you want a rare and prehistoric beauty in your garden, please contact me. 2. Are the photos of your property summery? Buyers dislike seeing photos of a wintry scene or photos that look dated.

any people think that the summer months in Spain are short on buyers but long on holidaymakers. This can be true but we are always surprised at how many people visit Spain during the summer and return having bought a home in the sun. This means that we all need to be prepared for the summer months. Our top tips for securing a sale during the summer are... 1. Speak to us at Creative Property Marketing – we don't charge commission when you sell see our advert on page 65.

To advertise call 637 028 873

3. Make sure your property is priced competitively in the current market – what are you competing with and does your property stand up to scrutiny from price-sensitive buyers? 4. Make sure your property looks fabulous in the sun – no peeling paint, no dead flowers on the patio and finish off those minor DIY jobs. Make your home scream summer's here! 5. Ensure your “outside space” makes the most of living outside during the summer – soft seating, cool spaces and a relaxed atmosphere is what's going to sell your home. Get those lounger cushions out! 6. If you are graced with a viewing, make sure the house is welcoming, not too hot, open the windows, put lamps on to compensate for the change in light from outside to in and offer a cold drink to your visitors. SAFE SUNBATHING! Experts now say don't hide from the sun

I

t seems that covering the skin with a sunscreen causes two problems. Firstly it delays sunburn, a warning sign that it is time for us to head for the shade, and secondly, it reduces our body's ability to produce Vitamin D, the vitamin that suppresses the growth of melanoma cells. Researchers think a solution may be to use a sun screen that has vitamins, minerals or other nutrients like herbs added. They also suggest taking supplements to boost our protection from within. Don't Hide from the Sun - Some Exposure is Essential to Good Health. Sunlight plays a vital role to our bodies physical and mental good health. Not only is it essential for the production of Vitamin D but deprivation of sunlight can cause Seasonal Effective Disorder, which makes us feel depressed and fatigued. There are also studies which appear to show that if we restrict sunlight from our lives too much we are at increased risk of breast, prostate and colon cancer. So follow a few simple rules and enjoy the sunshine. Here's What the Experts Recommend 1. Avoid the exposure during midday hours

56 The Grapevine

2. Choose a sunscreen with added nutrients (see below), apply 30 - 60 minutes before exposure, and re-apply often. 3. Take Vitamins C, D and E, and Beta Carotene along with Selenium, Calcium and Zinc to give your sunscreen a boost and help prevent skin damage. Remember the nutrients that help prevent sunburn, can also help to heal it. 4. Eat a healthy diet, including plenty of fruits and vegetables. They are rich in vitamins, minerals, carotenoids and flavonoids - all the things needed for healthy skin and good healing. Drink Green Tea. In a recent study, it was shown to be beneficial. Tea can also be applied topically to sooth sunburn. Tips On Choosing Sunscreen and After-Sun Skincare Products Worldwide research studies on the effectiveness of adding nutrients to sunscreens to protect the skin from sun damage is ongoing Those listed below have shown positive benefits and the nutrients are worth looking out for when buying sunscreen and aftersun skin care products, or to be used on their own. Others are age old herbal remedies that have stood the test of time, and are worth considering. Vitamin C - This powerful one of

antioxidant is one of the skin's major defenses against sunburn. It is also important in tissue repair. The sun destroys the skin's store of Vitamin C. Vitamin E - Vitamin E acts as a natural sunscreen. It is an antioxidant that aids tissue repair and the healing of scars. Experts say it will also help ease sunburn. Selenium - Selenium has been found to be effective in preventing sunburn. Lotions containing selenium have been around for many years as treatments for a variety of skin problems including fungal infections and dandruff. Zinc - Zinc has long been a treatment for minor burns and skin irritations. Life guards appreciate the value of zinc to protect their noses - it may look funny, but it works. It is now available in an almost invisible form in some sun blocks. Aloe Vera - The value of Aloe as a protectant from the sun is still being studied, but it is well known for it's healing powers when we do burn. Aloe's action on the skin may also prove to reduce the chance of skin cancer. Witch Hazel - This household remedy helps to heal wounds and is an anti-inflammatory. It can be used for sunburn & other minor burns. It is also used to treat swelling and bruises. In a recent study it showed promise as a beneficial addition to sun screens and after-sun skin care products. Calendula - This herbal remedy reduces inflammation, and is very soothing to sunburnt skin. Lavender Oil - A few drops of lavender oil added to almond, wheatgerm or sunflower oil relieves sunburn as well as other minor burns & scalds. Baking Soda - Another common household product that can help soothe sunburned skin. Dissolve a 16 oz box of Baking Soda in lukewarm water and soak in the tub for half an hour. Tea - Allow a pot of strong tea to cool, soak cloths with the tea, then apply to sunburned areas. Leave on for 30 minutes.

Gorgeous Picnic baskets with everything you need to fill them up in style, as well as acrylic glasses which can also be used safely near the pool! the process! And of course, a whole range of beer glasses, wine fridges, ice makers, cocktail shakers and even insulated covers to keep your can of beer cool whilst you cook! .

All our stock has taken on a summery look already, with lots of floral prints and bright colours, so if like mine, your house, terrace or garden is looking a bit worse for wear after the winter, then we have lots of ideas to spruce it up! For the lady who loves her garden, our favourite new collection is a rose printed range of garden tools, watering can and bucket, which match perfectly with our collection of outdoor furniture, including a rose mosaic table and chairs set! And don´t forget we also have our childrens section, where you can find all sorts of toys and summer inflatables for the pool to keep any young visitors entertained as well as clothes and sandals from 0 months – 12 years!

To make life easier for even smaller visitors, we also offer everything from travel cots & pushchairs to sterilizers and bottles in our baby section, so if anything has been left at home then just pop in and see us! Once there you can also check out our range of baby basics which have rental properties in mind, including 100% plastic high chairs which are economical and just as important - easy to clean! .

But its not just about visitors, so for anybody who can´t face the idea of Dunnes changing rooms in summer, we are offering an alternative in our lingerie section. We have in stock all the basics including tights, knickers & bras in UK cup sizes, as well as gorgeous swimsuits and bikinis. So if you still haven´t seen the new shop, now is as good a time as any! We are open from 9am till 2pm, then 5pm till 8.30pm Monday to Saturday! Happy Summer!

U

nless you have travelled to at least 25 foreign countries, are fluent in two languages and have performed live on stage, you have not lived life well, a study has claimed as it publishes a list of things to do before you die. Driving a really fast car, owning a pet, starting a family, paying off debts and getting a degree are mentioned on the list. Researchers questioned 2,000 adults aged 18 to 65 before compiling the list of the 50 things which are considered essentials for a "full" life. Other things which made the list were finding true love and being married for longer than 20 years. Kissing a stranger, having a onenight stand and dating someone "exciting but completely wrong for you" also made the top 50. landmarks were also hailed as "essential". But despite this, the study also revealed the average person has ticked off just eight of the 50 achievements listed. And only 23 per cent of those polled believe they are already "living life to the full". A third of people polled believe they will be living life to the full once they start working to live rather than living to work. For many, taking two holidays a year will be indicative of their full life – as will spending more time outside, booking impulsive last minute holidays, having the courage to travel alone and spontaneously blowing money on shopping trips. And being heroic is important to some – as 12 per cent would like to physically rescue someone, and 26 per cent want to be well thought of by family and friends. Other achievements include

driving a really fast car, owning a pet, starting a family, paying off debts and getting a degree. Many people would like to feel they could enjoy the little comforts in life, while 31 per cent want to be true to themselves. Making time for family and friends, treating each day like it's their last, and being able to keep kids on the straight and narrow are important to Brits. And in order to live life to the full, Britons would like to have reached their desired career peak by the age of 40, and be earning more than their age. The study shows that 65 per cent claim they don't live life to the full all the time because they can't afford to, while 38 per cent don't have the time. Just under four in 10 people say they have to think of other people around them and this sometimes prevents them from fulfilling their dreams, while 17 per cent are too

“I'm not too sure to be honest, I said all the usual stuff like, I'm a hard working person, I get on well with others, I won't let anyone down, blah blah blah, but then he sort of looked at me funny." "How come?" she replied.

This morning my wife said, "I find these post-it note jokes of yours about my weight problem really distasteful." "You're not supposed to eat them love," I replied.

"Because I said blah blah blah.”

I phoned my boss and told him I was sick. "I'll see you here at 9", he said and hung up.

"So how did the interview go?" my wife asked me.
