I
t’s a more friendly atmosphere and tidier than where I’m from (Aldershot). You can just chat away to people and the sun just seems to shine brighter here. The town also does quite a lot of good stuff like the fashion show. I think it needs to make more of a mark. It’s too similar to other towns. It could also do with more variety of shops and some independent shops.

t’s very friendly and has fairly good access to surrounding areas. It’s also got good entertainment like the theatre and exhibitions at The Lightbox. I feel we do need more decorating type shops. We’ve got the Hobby Craft shop and Robert Dyas but they are difficult to get to if you don’t have a car. We could do with better bus services to the retail park and the outskirts of Woking.

e had a mooch around Woking to find out what people like about our ever improving town and what they think needs some attention.
We asked: What do you like about Woking & how could Woking be improved?

verything you need is right here. I’m quite new to the area but that’s what stands out. We need more park areas. I like going for runs and there aren’t long cross country places to go. Woking somehow feels quite artificial. We could also do with more places to work like the library. The library is good when it’s free but it’s often very busy.

t’s improving all the time and getting more diverse because they’re building everywhere. My daughter comes in for the nightlife sometimes and it has good restaurants and bars. I’m all for improvement and change and they’re working on it. Housing might have been a problem but they are taking that into consideration and building more houses and flats. The only other thing I’d say is that the town is a bit tatty at the station end.

suppose it looks nice and it’s got a fair amount in it. It’s just the people. I suppose it’s better than the surrounding towns. They are already making it better but they need to get rid of the **** heads and the dude who shakes your hand then won’t let go because he wants you to give him some money!

he shopping centres are really improving. I used to not come because the shopping wasn’t so good but I’ve seen a really big improvement in the town in the last year and a half. It’s becoming more of a destination. There’s not much choice of restaurants. There seems to just be five or six Italians and Nandos and it’s not the sort of place you’d go out in the evening. The cinema is also rubbish. The seats are old and small and it doesn’t slope. I’m short so I can never see over people’s heads!

like the shopping centre even though it could do with a few cheaper clothing shops. I also like the park area but think we could do with another one nearer the town. We need more active stuff for kids like a youth centre. Places they can go to keep them off the streets. With the amount of deaths caused by alcohol I don’t think we need so many bars.

t’s good because it’s modern and you’ve got everything you need. There’s lots of entertainment in the town like the Big Apple and lots of good events on throughout the year. It’s also perfect for London as it’s so close and it has quite nice bars. I can’t really think of anything as they already have plans to make it better. The only thing I would say is that the public transport could be better.

Wild Talk with BRIAN MAY
Y
ou know him as the shaggy-maned rock star and guitarist with Queen. But Brian May also happens to be one of the most vocal animal rights campaigners in the UK. Rich Lee spoke to him ahead of his appearance at Wildlife Rocks at Guildford Cathedral on 5th May… How did you get involved with Wildlife Rocks?
Where does your interest in animals and conservation come from?
It’s all Anne Brummer’s (CEO) fault, really. Anne has run a wildlife rescue, Harper Asprey in Camberley, for many years and has rescued hundreds if not thousands of animals. So I got involved when she asked if she could use some of my land for the soft release of some of her animals.
It goes back a long way but I think I just had a growing feeling throughout my life that things weren’t right with the way human beings treated other species on this planet. I’m an astronomer and to astronomers the idea that human beings are somehow, in evolutionary or cosmological terms, more important than the rest of the planet’s species is quite laughable.
The idea behind Wildlife Rocks is to generate more interest and awareness of what’s going on and about how fast our wildlife is disappearing. It’s about what kind of world we want for our children. There’s only been one before, so this is the second one. I was just staggered by what Anne and her team achieved last time and this year’s Wildlife Rocks will be even more astonishing!
What will you be playing at the event and who are you playing with? I’ll be playing some acoustic songs with (West End singer and actress) Kerry Adams. I’ll be plugging in the guitar as well – there may be a Queen song in there, you never know! We do have the Troggs playing which is making me very excited. ‘Wild Thing’ is of course a very appropriate anthem for what we do. We have the legendary Hawkwind, Shirley Higton, the wonderful founder of Born Free, Virginia McKenna, live poetry and all sorts of wonderful stalls. It’s all very positive. Wildlife Rocks is not preachy, it’s not showing you images of animals being tortured to try and persuade you to our cause. It’s all about celebrating what we are on this planet and enjoying the freedom of animals and our own.
When did you decide to get political about issues of animal welfare? I put my sword on, I suppose, in the run-up to the last general election, when I suddenly realised that what David Cameron and his buddies stood for was the return of blood sports. In the beginning I couldn’t really believe it; I thought he seemed a decent enough chap. But the more I looked into it I realised that these issues are incredibly important to that clique of people. That’s when we set up the Save Me project (www. save-me.org.uk) to fight for the creatures that don’t have a voice.
But the advocacy swings both ways? Well they are definitely vocal about it; in the cause of animal cruelty you are up against people who are absolutely fighting you every inch of the way for the right to abuse animals. If that’s a part of human nature that’s rooted there then it ought to be rooted out! I think it’s a defect of human nature.
Is a repeal of the hunting ban still a threat? Well, assuming a recent report that suggests that Cameron has given up on the idea of a free vote on repealing the act is true, it’s very welcome news to us. But
it’s important to remember that Cameron would be reluctantly abandoning this case.
Rock star, composer, writer, astronomer, activist: how do you balance all of your diverse pursuits? With great difficulty! It’s on the borders of insanity what I do. I’ve learned, over the years to delegate to people that I trust and that’s a big part of it. I love to create and to make things happen and if I’m not part of a process like that then I start to feel very odd, like something’s gone wrong. I’m not a person who likes sitting around on a beach doing nothing. Not for very long, anyway!
What next for the mighty Queen? Well, we’re gearing up to do a very big tour. When you press that button, life starts to move very fast again. We’re touring with (American pop star) Adam Lambert and going to the USA, Japan, Korea and probably Australia as well. It’s turned into something comparable to what Queen were doing back in the glory days. It’s a great feeling to gear up and do things at that level, just one more time. Maybe...

OUR HISTORY: THE SHAG STONE ...A POTTED HISTORY OF WHERE WE LIVE AND WHO LIVED HERE by Will Knowlton
A
long time ago, a megalith (that’s Oxbridge for a big stone) used to sit next to a ford that was on the Reigate Road over the awesomely named Shag Brook just near Buckland. According to the standard local tripe that all communities seem to thrive on, the Shag Stone was home to a grotesque, hairy and nasty kind of chap who looked like some weird deformed bipod, sporting fire red eyes, razor sharp claws and a serious hatred for men in wigs and tail coats. According to Miss Miggins ( I made that name up but you can totally imagine her) this ogre in need of a toe nail trim would pass his days lying in wait and attacking anyone who bounced along and didn’t pay their respects to the stone. How do you do that? “I’m sorry to hear about your ejection from a volcano 27 millennia ago. Hope you’re ok? How’s granite these days, still struggling to become a rounded massif?”

Anyhoo, a local boy who just got back from the Napoleonic Wars (and was therefore as hard as a coffin nail - if you made it through that one, you’ve got cahones) decided he’d put the whole farce to rest and said he’d ride over the ford at midnight during a full moon. As we know from Hammer Horror movies, anything done at this time is double risky. So, Bob (we’ll call him Bob because I’m always on a word-count) set off on his ride into the unknown. It is said that he reappeared quite quickly, stammered that he’d made it across but from that moment until he carked it he never went over the ford in the dark again. DA DA DAAAAAAAA. Now To be fair, back in the day when flint napping was all the rage, the old Shag Stone was probably dedicated to some pagan god, because in pagan religion putting a rock next to a stream was all significant or something. Also the name’s quite interesting because, despite the fact that it’s a national sport, every weekend the word shag didn’t always mean what it means today. A “Shag” actually comes from the Old English for demon, no difference in translation when it comes to it actually. So what became of this horrible beast that lurked besides the stream? Well a little while later the ford was closed and a bridge put in its place. A local vicar took it upon himself to fight the good fight and got the workman to remove the stone; turns out that the legend was soooo believable that no local geezer would have touched it. Now here’s the REALLY surprising bit, I mean I never would have seen this coming: the removal of the stone solved all the local woes because there’s been no trouble ever since. MUM’S THE WORD: Day Tripper ALICE HOLT FOREST WHAT – This amazing forest just south of Farnham is part of the South Downs National Park. The public space is designed for woodland walks, cycling and picnicking. It is also the home of Go Ape, the wellknown tree top forest adventure park. WHEN – Open 365 days a year. TIP – You do not need to pay for this great day but you will need quite a bit of change for parking which is not cheap. It’s well worth the price of the parking ticket, though.
FISHER FARM WHAT – This family run farm and adventure play venue is great for children, from toddlers to early teens. It’s packed full of fantastic activities like pony rides, tractor rides and live animal shows. You can easily spend a whole day here and still have areas left to discover. WHAT – Located in the heart of Aldershot Military Town this museum was set up to preserve the history of Aldershot’s military connections. PETWORTH HOUSE This is one of our favourite National Trust houses in our area but this is one of our favourites. WHAT – This 17th century home in the heart of Petworth in Sussex has an incredible 700 acres of rolling grounds that are home to the estate’s herd of deer which can be seen as you roam by. WHEN – Generally open between 10.30am and 5pm. However, different parts of the park and house are open at different times and on different days so visit the website for full details.

THE WATERCRESS LINE Can there really be anything more wonderful then a steam train to set a child’s imagination alight? We think not. WHAT – This is the heritage railway that runs from New Alresford to Alton known as the Mid Hants Railway but affectionately called the Watercress Line. Once you have your ticket you can spend the day traveling from station to station taking in the countryside and enjoying all each station has to offer. THE WEALD AND DOWNLAND OPEN AIR MUSEUM This really is worth the drive as the museum offers something a little different from the norm. WHAT – The museum is set in acres of land made up of 45 historic houses that have been moved to the museum and reconstructed. It’s set up as a working village so that children can explore the house, interact with farm animals, visit the working mill and generally run to their heart’s content. WHEN – Generally open daily from 10.30am till 4pm but times and days change in the winter months so just check the website. STEP ONE Measure 5 inches from the tip of each piece of battening. Drill a hole with the 18mm drill bit in the middle here. These will be the holes the dowling will thread through.
STEP TWO Push the dowling through two pieces of battening together creating one end of the tent. Do
the same at the other end of the dowling and you have your frame.
STEP THREE Take your piece of fabric and iron seams on each side to the correct length for your tent.
STEP FOUR Cut your hemming web to fit the seam and then insert into the hem seam. Then iron the seam. This will seal the fabric together.
STEP FIVE Cut the elastic into four pieces. Sew each piece in a loop to each corner of the fabric.
STEP SIX To assemble the tent stand the frame up. Pace the fabric over the frame and slip the elastic loop over each leg. Decorate the tent with bunting and ribbon.

SURREY COUNTY DIAMOND JUBILEE SHOW SET TO SHINE
C
elebrating its 60th anniversary this year, the Surrey County Show returns to Stoke Park on May 26th with all the spectacle and excitement that visitors have come to expect from the UK’s largest one day agricultural show.
WWI With the centenary of WWI, history is woven into this year’s show. Expect a breath-taking display by the King’s Troop Royal Artillery, in full regalia atop their magnificent horses in the Grand Arena. They’ll be galloping gun carriages that last saw live action in WWI. Visitors to the show will also be able to bring their family’s WW1 memorabilia to the Surrey Infantry Museum Road Show where staff from the ‘below stairs’ museum at Clandon Park will offer helpful advice and identification of any items they may have from that period.
Animals The countryside literally comes to town with beautifully presented horses, cattle, sheep, pigs, goats and poultry. With milking parlours and shearing sheds, sheep pens and duck ponds, the show promises a magical slice of rural life with displays that are both educational and fun.
Food The Surrey County Show is the biggest celebration of the county’s food culture and producers. The ever popular Food Theatre will include live demoes from local and renowned chefs Ben Piette, Fernando Stovell and the Four Gables Cookery School. Billingsgate fish experts will be there and, of course, the Farmer’s Market offering shoppers a feast of produce and ideas.
Main Arena More thrills await at the show’s Grand Arena where the entertainment includes two ma jor show jumping classes attracting top riders and for adrenalin junkies, the nail-biting double harness pony scurry. Talking to... ROBERT CRAY to do something new with stuff we already know.
The success of Strong Persuader in the 1980’s was due, in part, to MTV. With such a different landscape, do you think it’s harder for acts to find that kind of success nowadays? Yes, it is. It’s a lot harder. The whole thing has changed along with the mood and the atmosphere and what people consider success is. MTV was great for us, but we’d already been a band for ten years before that. We got a lucky break but we still had to do the work.
You’re in that elite club of guitarists who are identified with the iconic Fender Stratocaster guitar. What keeps you coming back to the Strat? The Strat to me is just like the ultimate workhorse. It covers all the bases. I love playing rhythm on it, you can beat the hell out of it. It’s very simply made and it gives me what I want when I play solos. It does it all.
What were your first memories of music and what led you to pick up the guitar in the first place?

onsidered one of the finest blues guitarists of his generation, Robert Cray helped reinvigorate blues music in the 1980’s when the Robert Cray Band stormed the charts with the album Strong Persuader and single Smoking Gun. His music also explores rhythm & blues and soul music, no more so than on his latest album, In My Soul: a record full of sunshine grooves, heartfelt ballads and his unmistakable guitar playing and singing. With his current tour bringing him to Guildford’s G Live on May 18th we caught up with the five times Grammy winner…
Your new album In My Soul –your seventeenth studio album-is heavily influenced by 60’s and 70’s soul. Was that a conscious decision on your part? No it wasn’t actually. We wanted to work with Steve Jordan (producer). Steve had a couple of ideas that he suggested to me before going into the studio, and one of them was the Otis Redding song Nobody’s Fault but Mine. He said ‘Robert, I know you’d kill this song, what do you think of it?’ and I loved that song! The rest of the material came from the band and me. We didn’t know what one and the other had
until a week prior to the studio. And then it all fell into sync, you know?
You recorded it in December 2013 and now here you are, in April, touring the album. Is that working pace normal for you? Yeah, you know we don’t spend a lot of time in the studio, trying to perfect something that can’t be perfected. Just get a really good attempt at it. I prefer live performance, though. Going on stage is a challenge that I welcome, to try to make music and have fun at it and yet still try
It was the Beatles, and the excitement of when they were coming to the States. After that, me and my friends wanted guitars, wanted to be Beatles. I started playing guitar just like all my friends, but unlike them I never quit.
When did you discover the blues? A couple of friends in high school had been listening to BB King, Magic Sam, Buddy Guy and I fell into that gang. My parents had a bunch of those records at their house. So pretty soon their records started disappearing! It was so interesting and so different from everything else that we’d been listening to. Howlin’ Wolf, Muddy Waters, Robert Johnson and his so-called association with the devil, all those double-entendres in the songs. We’re like fifteen years old and thinking ‘man, this is cool!’
Finally, what do you plan to do after this tour? Well, this year’s going to see us on the road quite a bit. There’s a couple of US and European tours to take us up until the fall. So we probably won’t take a break until the winter!

RECIPES: Veritable Vegetables
THE CLASSIC VEGETABLE CHILLI
T
his is always a real crowd pleaser. The amount of chilli used can be altered to your taste. This recipe makes a spicy chilli with a kick but if you really don’t like it hot, substitute the fresh chilli for mild chilli powder.

Sauté the onion in the olive oil until soft then add the peppers and garlic and cook for 3 minutes.

Add the ground cumin and coriander and stir until all the ingredients are well covered. Then add the fresh chilli, beans and chopped tomatoes. Stir well.

Bring to the boil then reduce to a simmer and cover. Cook for 1 hour. You may need to add a little water if it looks like it’s drying out.

Meanwhile finely chop the red onion, tomatoes and pepper to make your salsa. You can use a food processor if you have one. Combine them in a bowl then mix in the coriander and avocado.

Serve with rice, the salsa and sour cream. Feel free to add more fresh coriander as you like and of course don’t forget the tortilla chips.
Ingredients (Serves 4 -6) Chilli • 2 tbsps olive oil • 1 large onion finely diced • 2 cloves of garlic crushed • 2 large peppers, any colour, diced • 1 fresh red chilli finely chopped • 2 tsps ground cumin
Salsa • 1 medium red onion • 4 large tomatoes seeds removed • 1 red pepper • 2 ripe avocados diced into large chunks • Fresh coriander finely chopped
• 2 tsps ground coriander • 1 can of kidney beans • 1 can of black beans • 2 cans of chopped tomatoes
To Serve • Rice and tortilla chips • Sour cream

LINGUINE WITH COURGETTE AND CHILLI

his dish is based upon a classic pasta with crab and chilli recipe. It is super quick to make so have everything prepared before you start cooking.
Ingredients
(Serves 4 )
• 4 tbsps of mild olive oil
Grate your courgettes then place them in a clean tea towel and give them a good squeeze to remove any excess liquid, then put to one side until needed.

• 4 cloves of garlic finely diced
Place your pasta in a large pan of boiling water and cook for around 8 – 10 minutes until al dente (with a little ‘bite’).

Meanwhile heat 3 tbsps of olive oil in a large frying pan and add the chilli and garlic. Cook for 1 minute being careful not to burn.

Add the grated courgettes. Stir well and cook over a medium heat until soft. Then keep warm over a low heat while your pasta finishes cooking.

Drain your pasta. Add the last tbsp of oil to the drained pasta making sure it is well covered. Combine the pasta and courgette mixture, mixing well.

Preheat the oven to 200C/fan 180C. Cook the macaroni. Heat the oil in a pan and add the garlic and leeks and allow to soften.

Melt the butter in a pan. Stir in the flour gradually.

Add the milk gradually, stirring to avoid lumps. Add the mustard.

Add the cheese and stir the mixture until it has melted into the sauce.

WHERE TO EAT: Jeitta, Woking

his May marks annual National Vegetarian Week (19th to the 25th), when the whole country is invited to enjoy the wholesome, tasty delights of a veggie diet for one week. Only seven days? Pfft. Without meaning to brag, I’ve found it fairly painless to commit to a vegetarian lifestyle before, so long as it’s very parttime, mostly involves side dishes and never asks me to eat celery. Or cauliflower. But since I had to review a restaurant for this month’s Where to Eat solely on its meatfree offerings, my first choice of cuisine was an easy one: Lebanese food, which in my view offers one of the most sumptuous and satisfying eating experiences of the kind that doesn’t involve a shred of animal protein. Which is why we found ourselves at Jeitta, a modest yet charming Lebanese restaurant tucked down Church Street in Woking; it’s been a favourite of locals for well over a year now. With its sandstone walls, grass-thatched ceiling and brazier lampshades, the restaurant’s interior manages to evoke a true Mid-East flavour beyond the food on offer. From the aromas drifting over from the open kitchen, it was clear that they do fantastic things to lamb, pork, chicken and even fish at Jeitta. But alas, they weren’t why we were here. Fortunately, their offerings of fresh, authentic mezze and assorted veggie-friendly options were. With not a little assistance from Jeitta’s immensely likeable manager Ma jed, it didn’t take long for our table to be filled with bowls and plates, each dish as tempting as its neighbour. Hot and cold mezze, warm flatbreads, zingy, herby tabouleh and silky, creamy hummus; it was impossible to pick a winner
from the feast before us, and a little pointless to try. Although the mouhamara, a dish of mixed, crushed nuts served with hot sauce and olive oil came close to stealing the prize for ‘best scooped up with flatbread and rammed greedily into mouth’ from the excellent Hommus Beiruty, a more fiery take on the delicious chickpea puree. Right behind those were some lovely salty halloumi, balls of fragrant falafel and Fatyer: baked pastry parcels of herby spinach, lemon and pine nuts. Sadly, this decadent spread left our main courses rather in the shade, but the stews of French bean Loubieh and the okra and coriander Bamia B’Zeit still managed to satisfy without showing off. With such varied and delicious vegetarian options, I’m happy to say that the meat wasn’t missed, at least on this visit. It should also be said that the restaurant’s bring-your-own-bottle policy certainly simplifies the experience, allowing their unique alcohol free cocktails and juices to shine through. Veggie or not, Jeitta offers the warmest of welcomes and is a great place to explore the flavours of the Mediterranean Middle East without overly bothering your bank account. Next month’s Where to Eat, however, should be all about National Meat Week. Although I’ll probably have to invent that first.

urrey is a golfer’s playground, but for many, it can be an intimidating sport to begin. We asked Billy Irvine, a PGA Qualified Golf Teaching Professional and instructor with the Stack & Tilt ™ Network, for some advice on how to take that first swing at golf…
Who plays golf and why? People of all ages and walks of life play these days. Golf is definitely no longer the male dominated, wealthy, elitist sport it once was. Golf brings health benefits from walking and swinging, plus it’s both a social game and one that can be played solo.
What should a new player look for in their first set of clubs? The correct design of club for your standard or level. If possible, get the clubs fitted to your body frame. A decent set of clubs won’t make you play better, but a bad set can make you play worse.
Where should beginners play? Find a local driving range to hit full shots and learn the swing along with lessons. Then be progressive, start on a small par 3 course and work your way up to the bigger courses.
What is the best way to learn to play golf? As a coach of course I would promote lessons first on the range and practice facilities. It is a tricky game to get good at mainly because the ball is so small. But if you find a coach who can teach you progressively at a steady rate, you can enjoy progress with clear goals in mind.
Can you play golf on a budget? Definitely! A set of clubs is the main outlay at first, but you can hire clubs at first to try before you buy at many golf centres. Joining a public or private course can be cost effective if you are really starting to play a lot, especially junior players, as the membership fees can be very reasonable.
What is ‘golf etiquette’ and why is it important? It is important to prevent the playing speed on the course from grinding to a halt, especially if the players are new to the course. It is also to protect the course from damage. Lastly, there are some traditions that some golf clubs, most of which are there just to create a good social environment for everyone. his test dummy is just that. I haven’t picked up a golf club in over a decade, if not longer, so the words test and dummy have never appeared as both apt and true as they are at the time of writing. ollow these six handy tips to help you trade successfully online and ensure that you remain legally compliant: Produce a robust set of standard trading terms which will govern sales to your customers. These should, among other things, make it clear that they take precedence over any other terms or conditions. Make sure that your website includes all information that you are legally required to disclose. For instance The E-Commerce Regulations require you to clearly set out the steps that your customers must follow to conclude an online contract with you (these would normally be contained in your trading terms); Be aware of the Distance Selling Regulations which under certain circumstances entitle customers to cancel contracts. Prepare a set of terms of website use prohibiting unauthorised reproduction of materials on your website and unacceptable behaviour such as hacking, introducing viruses and uploading unacceptable material. Develop a privacy/cookie policy outlining your policy on the collection, use and storage of customers’ personal data and your use of “cookies”. nternet safety: it’s a divisive subject so let’s start with a question. Do you need to be concerned about computer security? Yes, you do, but there’s no point in being completely paranoid, however. A little foresight goes a long way. We’ll start with a few simple pointers:
DON’T post personal information (Name, address, age, birthdate, credit card number, top ten favourite Abba tracks etc.) on message boards. General rule of thumb is this: if you wouldn’t be comfortable telling a total stranger, don't post it on the internet. DON’T fall for the trick "dialog box" ads. These things appear on a webpage, looking just like Windows dialog boxes and say things like "Your computer may be unsecure. Click to scan now". DON’T. Since in most cases it's an ad, it doesn’t matter, but when you close it, make sure you use the REAL close button, not a fake one that’s part of the ad. DON’T install software from untrusted sources. DON’T open email attachments from people you don't know or an unexpected email attachment from someone you do know. DO be very careful when typing addresses into the address bar. A typo of one letter can lead to an entirely different site, or worse a spoof site attempting to steal your information. DO run anti-virus software. DO keep your computer up to date.

hh Spam, bloomin’ spam. Nobody likes spam, but we all get it. First and foremost, be careful who you trust your email address with. A lot of the time when websites are offering "free software" or a dream
holiday to Bora Bora they just need your e-mail address. The truth is they’re going to sell your email address to make a profit. How can you be sure that a site isn't going to sell your address? First of all read their Privacy Policy. You know that thing that all decent websites have and nobody ever reads? They are required to disclose what they will do with your information in there. If a site doesn't have a privacy policy, then it's likely they are going to sell your information (or worse). But if you REALLY need that piece of software or whatever else and it’s a sure bet they’re going to sell your details, what you can do is open a second email address and use that email address for occasions where a website's trustworthiness can’t be easily determined. Another way spammers can get your email address is by bots that scour the web looking for things you look up. If you have a public profile on a message board, or post your email in a post (or anywhere else public) then bots collect that and spam you. You’ve got two choices in this case: use a secondary email address that's "unsecure" or trick the e-mail gathering bots. It's really pretty simple. Let's say your email is JohnDoe@ dreamviews.com and you wanted to have that email publicly in your profile. You could post it as JaneDoe_at_dreamviews_dot_ com or JaneDoe@dreamviews_ no_spam_.com. This has the effect of confusing some email collection bots. Simple but effective but it does have the downside of confusing people who can't see through the camouflage, so to speak.

astly let’s look at these Anti-Virus programs. They’re just like they sound. They’re applications designed to protect you from viruses. The main differences between the free and paid versions are: • A free version has no technical support. • A free version is given lower priority when connecting to the update server. • A free version is only available in one language, you don't get super advanced settings, and you can't use it in a commercial setting, as in, for your business. To be fair there are limitations to a free version, but there are some really good free applications out there. However, buyer beware. If you buy software from a reputable source (like PC World, Argos, Bitdefender and the like) it’s all well and good but buy it from a place that also sells bootleg DVDs and you may want to be a little more cautious. Don’t run more than one antivirus application at once because they can conflict and this can cause them not to function properly, or even worse can cause damage. Remember that anti-virus programs aren’t foolproof. They all do a good job but as we’ve seen recently sometimes a new virus can infect people before the virus databases have been updated to protect them. Getting rid of a virus to which there is not yet an antidote can be really a little sporty.
Anti-virus checklist: DO run ONE good anti-virus application. DO scan your entire system for viruses on a regular basis. THINK before you download from the internet. REMEMBER that anti-virus programs are not a substitute for good common sense.

I’m 100% passionate about delivering first class service. We all care about what we’re doing – it’s not just about making money. If we get it right, and deliver the service and we’re all happy in our jobs then the money will take care of itself. What’s your favourite dish? I like a good home-cooked roast dinner – my dad makes a great one – and something stodgy for pudding like chocolate fudge brownie.

Nigel Wilkinson SPECIAL EFFECTS WIZARD ON
I work in physical special effects for TV and Film, designing, creating and building whatever it takes to fulfil the director’s vision. It can be anything from a rainy day to a big action disaster scene and some very strange things in between.
How did your career get started? I started at Pinewood Studios working for a small SFX company, learning the business as a trainee from the ground up. We specialised in commercials and pop videos: anything from full size rotating rooms for Jamiroquai videos to splashing water over shampoo bottles for adverts. I once sat in a tree for several hours just dropping leaves…
What do you most enjoy about your work? I love the creativity and the challenge of making the impossible possible. A film crew is like a big family, so the camaraderie is great and it’s good fun to be around each other. There’s never a dull moment and every day is a new challenge. We go to amazing locations from beaches to boats to slums (we once built a slum set next to a real slum only for the locals to move in after we left).
What are the most essential tools in your box of tricks? An adjustable spanner, a Leatherman, WD40 and a roll of gaffer tape. Never go on a job without them!

Which iconic special effect in cinema history do you wish you could have worked on? The streaks of fire left by the DeLorean time machine from Back to the Future. I’d love to say that one was mine!
How does it feel to watch your efforts on the screen? It’s great to see the end product of months of hard work coming together and a great surprise as it’s sometimes a year later that we get to see our work in its full context. We won the Emmy for special effects last year for Game of Thrones, which was a real testament to the hard work of the crew.
You’ve worked alongside some of the biggest actors and directors in TV and film. Do you still get starstruck? It’s strange but I don’t really. I find actors never quite look how you imagine them to in real life. I often find myself not recognising them in the dinner queue or something. Although my wife was very excited to be behind Jon Snow on the plane to Belfast once!
Which character from Game of Thrones do you share the most similarities with? As a special effects crew we are probably most like the Spider. We do loads of things behind the scenes that no one sees or probably realises that we do. Special effects aren’t just the big bangs but the atmosphere, the rain in the background, a fire in a grate, a leaf blowing by, the snow on the floor.
Go on – reveal something juicy that’s coming up in this season of Game of Thrones… That would be telling! The show just keeps getting bigger and better every year so all I can say is don’t miss it, and if you haven’t seen it, do – you won’t regret it. Im a big fan of GoT so working on the production is such a privilege. I’ve been involved since the start so feel hugely proud of the show and its success.
Your work sends you all around the world. What do you most look forward to about coming home to Surrey? Its family first, of course; I can be away for months at a time. I love Guildford. It’s a great place to live and so relaxing to come back to. I think some people think it’s a busy place but I always slow down when I’m home.
