So far 2023 is opening very well. From soundings in December most members were cautious about what January and 2023 would bring. Speaking to members over the last few days - without exception - those spoken to are very pleasantly surprised that business has been so good.

With almost 30,000 new housing units in 2022, see chart page 6, the new home market is the largest it has been since 2008. Matching this is the number of mortgages drawn down - again the highest number since 2008. This is a very welcome and significant achievement, especially when set against constraints caused by the inflation in building materials and a shortage of skilled labour. While inflation appears to be stabilising, a further challenge continues to be planning. More than a year’s output of new homes are now held up in planning and judicial reviews. A breakthrough is required on this.

The launch of the Government’s Vacant Homes Action Plan, www.gov.ie/vacancy, realises most of Hardware Association Ireland’s recommendations in Empty Homes - Unlocking the Opportunity https://hardwareassociation.ie. The grants for vacant and derelict homes are live - there have been 900 applications since its launch. There are vacant homes officers in each local authority and a dedicated section within the Department of Housing having responsibility for vacant homes. Changes in the Fair Deal rules now mean that 60% of a rental income can be kept, previously it was 20%. Rules on selling these properties have also been eased. This will help release many of these homes into the market. Many of the requisite policies and financial incentives from government are now in place. The roll out of an active strategy will depend on how other stakeholders such as the banks and other financial institutions step up. Every rejuvenation project will involve an energy upgrade so it will be interesting to see how green mortgages evolve. And its roll-out will also depend on an effective active strategy in the local authorities. And there is a considerable budget planned for remedial work to Celtic Tiger built apartments. This will also present as an opportunity for the sector - it’s an ill wind!

HAI are hosting The Hardware Conference in Lyrath Estate Hotel in Kilkenny on March 30th. We have a very compelling list of thoughtleading speakers. Amongst them we have Fergus McMahon of Cairn Homes, Dr. Ciaran Byrne of SEAI, Hugh Wallace Architect and TV presenter, Andrew Moseley of The Scottish Empty Homes Partnership, Michael Neary and Greg Fry. During Covid Michael

Neary’s webinar with its focus on Retail Loss Prevention was the best attended. The Hardware Conference will give us all the chance to network and to share ideas as to how to improve our businesses. Interest in The Hardware Conference is well beyond our expectations. I would urge anyone wishing to attend to please register at www.thehardwareconference.ie and see page 8. On 21st April UFEMAT will be holding their conference in Dublin and we would encourage members to attend - again an interesting line up of topics and speakers - see page 28.

We are also running a number of roadshows to promote and clarify the Empty Homes messages to our members and other stakeholders. An active strategy on rejuvenating empty homes has the potential to bring 35,000 homes back to life. From a solely commercial viewpoint this could potentially add over ¤2 billion to our market over three to four years. In addition, it would improve our living environment, and help us with our carbon targets. We will host a roadshow in Dundalk on February 16th, and we will keep members informed of future roadshows.

In this edition we have profiles of Brooks and Pipelife outlining their plans. In the Garden and Outdoor supplement we feature many new products and innovations for the room outdoors. The gardening season is now and this is the time when the early gardeners buy their products. So set up those display stands now! Our Spring training schedule is underway - see page 72. There is great demand for courses so please book to avoid disappointment. We also look at how our training offer has evolved since 2015. While selling skills is very popular, we can see the interest in digital marketing courses surge in the last few years.

TIRLÁN BEGINS €11 MILLION INVESTMENT ACROSS ITS BRANCH NETWORK

Tirlán, formerly Glanbia Ireland, has begun an ¤11 million plus investment programme to develop and upgrade its entire 52-strong local branch network, with work in its Athboy, Castlelyons and Bunclody stores already underway.

The 100% farmer-owned Co-op says the landmark investment package is part of a range of measures to future-proof its agri, retail and garden centre services in rural communities across 11 counties.

The branch improvements are a further sign of Tirlán’s commitment to serving the evolving needs of its loyal customers in rural communities into the future. It also clearly demonstrates its promise to support local jobs and rural economies, as outlined in the Co-op’s ‘Living Proof’ sustainability strategy.

The ¤11 million plus plan will also include a significant upgrading of branch IT infrastructure with new technologies that will make the overall customer experience more enjoyable and efficient.

Tirlán Chairman John Murphy said that Tirlán’s branches are the heartbeat of many local communities and this investment signifies the Co-op’s commitment to playing its part in enriching the lives of those living in rural Ireland.

“As a farmer-owned co-operative, Tirlán is committed to developing a modern network of stores that service the evolving needs of farmers and the communities that we serve,” he said.

“We will be developing and upgrading our branches over the next 4-5 years and adding new Tirlán CountryLife garden centres at our existing branches in both Athboy Co. Meath and Bennettsbridge in Co. Kilkenny.

“We will improve the customer experience across all our branches in order to better service the evolving needs of our customers and communities. Many of these communities have lost their local post office, shops and other services in recent years and we aim to play our part in ensuring they remain vibrant and self-sufficient,” he continued.

The first new concept store revamp in Bunclody will be completed in early 2023, Senan Foley, Head of Retail at Tirlán explained. “Our 52-strong branch network is the face of Tirlán in our communities. They are more than just an agri store. Today, our branch network provides critical services in a setting that many of our shareholders, suppliers and customers have a strong affiliation with locally.

“Over a year ago, we partnered with An Post subsidiary PostPoint to bring a range of convenient services to rural communities. Today’s announcement is part of a wider investment programme that will further enhance our offering to customers and also expand our role in the community.”

“As our investment plan begins, we’re open to more local partnership ideas with third parties to help make our rural communities even more sustainable into the future.”

Phase One of the investment programme sees stores in Ashford, Monasterevin, Castlelyons, Athboy and Bennettsbridge undergo significant renovations. Followed by phase two branches in Dungarvan, Kilmeaden and Tullamore.

Tirlán’s new branding will be rolled out across the reinvigorated network. This rebrand, which is already underway, will see agri stores rebranded to ‘Tirlán FarmLife’, and agri stores with garden centres rebranded to ‘Tirlán CountryLife’. Further investment is being rolled out in areas such as people development and training, along with development of Farm Hardware Centres of Excellence.

The investment programme was unveiled at the first of Tirlán’s regional Farmer Information Meetings in January. Further investment is being rolled out in areas such as training and the development of Farm Hardware Centres of Excellence. Also the enhancement of their TirlanFarmLife.com eCommerce customer offering is supported by the creation of a dedicated distribution warehouse in Portlaoise.

WHITERIVER GROUP WOOD FLOORING & COMPOSITE DECKING TRAINING SEMINAR

Whiteriver Group have a long history of excellent customer service which takes many forms including hands-on practical training for their customers. Over the years they have held many training seminars at their premises in Dunleer, Co. Louth while their Area Sales Managers, Colm, Michael and Martin carry out continuous product support when calling into stores around the country. Last October Whiteriver hosted their latest comprehensive training seminar at their offices and warehouse in Dunleer. Customers travelled from all corners of the country with some staying overnight so they were fresh for the next day’s training. Co-CEO & Head of Sales, Iain Wogan said they were delighted with the demand for the seminar - “initially we had allocated two days, however due to demand a further three days were added with a total of over 100 participants attending”.

The day started with a tour the extensive warehouse and a brief history of the company which was created by Brian Wogan back in 1997. The refurbished showroom provided the perfect setting for the day. Training covered their complete range of Laminate & Engineered flooring, Composite Decking, Pedestals & Aluminium joist systems as well as recently launched Composite Cladding which is becoming hugely popular. There were plenty of practical hints and tips throughout the day from installation methods to a showroom presentation on how to improve sales and margins.

Feedback from all was very positive and everyone received a framed Consultant’s Training Certificate to mark the occasion. Iain took the opportunity to thank all those who attended and gave a special thanks to all the staff at Whiteriver who put a huge effort into making the seminar a success.

PAINT MANUFACTURER HONOURED AT KILDARE BUSINESS AWARDS

Kevin O’Connor, former managing director of General Paints Group was honoured at the Kildare Business Awards 2022 on Thursday, 24th November, for his contribution to the business and local communities, winning the Outstanding Contribution to Business Award. Kevin received the award in recognition of his service and contribution as Chairman and Managing Director of Celbridge based General Paints Group for 38 years.

recognition of what we have built at General Paints Group – a thriving business and employer.

NIALL EVANS APPOINTED AS SALES DIRECTOR OF GYPROC & ISOVER IRELAND

Saint-Gobain are pleased to announce the appointment of Niall Evans to the role of Sales Director for the Gyproc & Isover businesses in Ireland. Before this appointment, Niall held the role of National Sales Manager at Gyproc & Isover for seven years where he developed a great understanding of the Irish markets and customers. Niall is a Derry native and a graduate of the University of Ulster Jordanstown where he obtained his MBA. Niall has held various commercial roles during his twenty-three years with Saint-Gobain and his insight and knowledge will help to drive business growth through new and existing customer relationships. Niall takes over this role from Declan Smyth who retired on December 31st, 2022.

Commenting on his appointment Niall said, “It is an honour for me to take on the role of Sales Director and I look forward to working closely with all our customers throughout Ireland. ARC ARE BRINGING MANUFACTURING BACK TO ARKLOW

Simon Harris TD, Minister for Justice and Minister for Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science, recently officially opened Arc Building Products’ second powder plant in Arklow, Co. Wicklow.

In the Minister’s speech he referred to the importance of Irish manufacturing for the country. Established by Martin Nolan, Fergal Simpson & David Orr, Arc Building Products has quickly grown to become one of Ireland’s largest manufacturers of tile adhesives, grouts, levelling compounds, primers, sealants and admixtures. They produce world class products and award-winning brands at their 100,000ft² premises in Arklow which houses their manufacturing, research & development, warehousing and sales offices.

The journey began in 2006 with a small manufacturing plant and warehouse in Rathnew. This premises was quickly outgrown, and the business moved to Gorey, Co. Wexford in 2010. The company expanded further in 2016 when the decision was made to purchase a permanent location for the business, and they moved to their new premises in

Arklow. This acquisition allowed for further expansion and the installation of a second plant doubling the production capacity and creating further employment.

The company plans further expansion and the creation of more jobs over the next five years.

Arc currently employs 37 full time personnel including a sales team, office, research & development, production and warehouse staff. Customers are spread across the 32 counties and include independent DIY stores, builders’ providers, tiling shops and most of the large hardware retailers in the sector.

IRISH CEMENT CELEBRATES 85 YEARS MAKING HIGH QUALITY CEMENT

The world has transformed over the past 85 years. Think back to Ireland of the 1930s, when our grandparents tell tales of walking to school barefoot, ponies and traps, black bicycles, and very few cars on the roads. By and large, they recall simpler times when the pace of life seemed more relaxed. There were very few telephones let alone smartphones. Instead, there were telegrams, letters, and messenger boys; no urgent emails demanding an immediate response. Farming was as vital in Ireland then as it is now, and the Electricity Supply Board had been established just a decade earlier. Rural electrification was transforming communities throughout Ireland, and today we all recognise the important role electricity plays in our daily lives. There is something else from that era, which is vital to our daily lives but is often overlooked.

On the 23rd of May 1938, Sean Lemass, then Minister for Industry and Commerce, surrounded by other dignitaries pushed an oversized red button and two cement factories, one on the banks of the Boyne in Drogheda, the other in Mungret outside Limerick, sprang into life. The location of the Cement Ltd factories (later to become Irish Cement) had been carefully chosen to be close to abundant supplies of limestone, ports for the importation of fuel, and centres of the population for the sale of its product. From that day on, cement used in concrete and mortar has been one of the key ingredients in the foundations of the Irish State. Irish Cement has been at the forefront of manufacturing high-quality cement since 1938, and cement continues to be a critical ingredient in our modern economy. During those eight and a half decades, Irish Cement has transformed its operations through upgrades and continuous investment in the most energy-efficient cement manufacturing technology.

Today’s workforce in Irish Cement is tremendously proud of that unique heritage, and the work done by previous generations. They also recognise the responsibility of this current generation to ramp up further the pace of change. That change is to address the carbon emissions from the cement industry and to further improve the resource efficiency of its

operations. The cement sector has committed to being carbon neutral by 2050 and progress is well underway. Already, a typical bag of Irish Cement has a 20% lower carbon footprint compared to the 1990’s. Continuous investment in training and development of the workforce has underpinned these developments.

Maintaining quality and cement performance for customers remains the top priority as the company innovates and becomes more sustainable in the way it makes cement. In 15 years, when Irish Cement will celebrate one hundred years in business, the way cement is manufactured will be radically different from today. CHADWICKS GROUP LENDS ITS SUPPORT TO UPGRADE IRISH WHEELCHAIR ASSOCIATION CENTRE IN LISTOWEL

Chadwicks Group is delighted to have supported the Irish Wheelchair Association (IWA) centre in Listowel, Co. Kerry to revamp its outdoor garden area. The project is part of Chadwicks Group’s ongoing nationwide partnership with IWA to supply building materials to IWA community centres across the country to help improve accessibility for its users. The IWA operates 58 full and part-time community centres nationwide which offer training, social activities and therapies to people with physical disabilities. It also provides 1.3 million hours of assisted living services to more than 2,000 adults and children.

In Listowel, IWA provides services approximately four days a week, supporting up to 20 people with disabilities in the area. This is a vital service for the people who attend and plays an important part in their ability to interact with their peers and participate in local activities.

Chadwicks Group assisted the IWA in Listowel by supplying a range of materials to upgrade their outdoor area including gravel, cement, cladding and outdoor garden furniture. The area was in need of a renovation and service users were engaged on the design of the garden before the works took place. The area is now fully revamped and available for service users to enjoy.

Commenting on the announcement, Jerry Lynch, Chadwicks Tralee Branch Manager said, “We are delighted to support the Irish Wheelchair Association centre in Listowel on this project. IWA provides vital services in Listowel and the surrounding area and it is a privilege to be involved in improving the outdoor space which is an essential area for members of our community. We are delighted that our work can have a positive impact on the staff and service users alike.”

GOVERNMENT AGREES TO EXTEND MANDATE OF LOCAL ENTERPRISE OFFICES

The Government has decided to extend the mandate of the Local Enterprise Offices (LEOs) to target new exporters by providing direct grants to firms who employ more than ten and are operating in the manufacturing and internationally traded services sectors. In future years, it is intended to further expand the range of advisory services available to all companies with up to 50 employees, including those operating in the locally traded sector.

The decision fulfils a Programme for Government commitment to ensure a continuation of support for enterprises that have grown above ten staff.

It builds on the new Enterprise Ireland strategy which sets out a commitment to ensure a continuation of assistance for enterprises that have grown to 10 or more employees, as appropriate to their stage of development

and internationalisation ambition. The strategy also commits Enterprise Ireland to working with the LEOs, to ensure that companies of all sizes are assisted on their development journey, maximising their growth and job creation potential.

Since 2014 the network of 31 Local Enterprise Offices has grown and they are now well established as the firststop-shop for all businesses and entrepreneurs. They have evolved in the provision of services including direct grant aid to microenterprises that wanted to grow internationally and training and advisory programmes to a broader cohort of companies including those trading locally. The assistance they provide will be critical to helping firms to be more productive, to digitise and to reduce their carbon footprint.

LONGFORD LUNCH 2022

Glennon Brothers were delighted to support the Longford Lunch which took place recently in the Hogan Suite in Croke Park. The event was organised as a fundraiser for Longford GAA.

Glennon Brothers welcomed many of their customers from the Republic of Ireland, Northern Ireland, Scotland, England and Wales to join them in Croke Park. Many of the Scottish guests attended in their traditional kilts. Also in attendance on the day were many supply chain partners of Glennon Brothers who generously supported the day. In total 500 people attended, RTE’s Sinead Hussey MC’d for the day and Neil Delamere provided the entertainment. Jack Chambers TD, Minister for Sport and the Gaeltacht, Colm Markey, Member of European Parliament, Joe Flaherty TD, and Larry McCarthy, President of the GAA, were all in attendance.

Mike Glennon in welcoming everyone to Croke Park said that “Over 70% of the tables here today are directly connected to the Irish forestry sector, a sector which is often lost in the shadow of agriculture, but which employs 12,000 people and contributes ¤2.3 billion to the Irish economy”.

“Forestry holds the key to help meet climate change targets, while also providing timber for the much-needed housing market. Using wood in construction is a cost-effective and sustainable solution to combat climate change. Forests are often called the lungs of the earth, because they draw in carbon dioxide and breath out oxygen. Thanks to our favourable climate and soil type, we can grow trees twice as fast as our Scandinavian competitors”.

“We have to ask the difficult question; why, in Ireland today, have we the lowest level of planting since 1946, with a mere 2,000

hectares planted versus a Government target of 8,000 and a climate change target of 18,000 hectares? Are we really serious in Ireland about reaching our climate change commitments?”

“We welcome the new ¤1.3 billion Government Forestry Programme, announced last week, which is a big vote of confidence in the sector. We have some concerns with the balance in the Programme. Grants and premiums for conifer forests should be closer to those for native woodland. Conifer forests give us the scale we need to sequester carbon and fight climate change. In the past, farmers and other landowners stopped planting as the system was too bureaucratic. We hope this is resolved in the new Programme”.

Mike Glennon ended his speech by addressing new Longford manager Paddy Christie in hoping that he would have the Longford football team back on the field in Croke Park in the upcoming season. Glennon Brothers would like to thank everyone who attended the lunch and for supporting Longford GAA.

NEW OPPORTUNITIES FOR THE ‘GRATE SAVER’

Inventor Kevin Walker has said that the new Solid Fuel Regulations introduced in October 2022 by Minister for the Environment, Climate and Communications, Eamon Ryan will be a new opportunity for his ‘Grate Saver’ product to be used throughout the country. The product is designed and manufactured specifically to withstand the increased temperatures generated by smokeless coal and other smokeless products. The specially enriched steel used in the manufacture of the plates is guaranteed to add years to the life of your customer’s grate.

When Low Smoke Zones were originally applied under the Marketing, Sale, Distribution and Burning of Specified Fuels Regulations, 2012-2020, customers found that their cast iron grates were burning out much more quickly when smokeless coal was used. Because of the unique and patented design of the ‘Grate Saver’, all the coal is burned, saving up to 20% on the cost of fuel and extending the life of the grate. Also, small nuggets are prevented from falling through the grate and this greatly reduces smouldering, a cause of pollutants entering the atmosphere from fossil burning sources. Kevin says, “The Grate Saver will save your customers on fuel costs, extend the life of their existing grate and

help us all to be more environmentally responsible.”

ONLINE ASSESSMENT TOOL AND COURSES RESOURCE TO ASSIST OWNERS AND MANAGERS

Government have recently launched Skills for Better Business, a two-part initiative aimed at assisting SME owners and managers across Ireland.

Skills for Better Business comprises an Online Tool for management skills assessment, complemented by a signposting resource providing quick contact information for management education and training.

On foot of recommendations by the Expert Group on Future Skills Needs in its 2020 management skills report, Leading the Way, a consortium of 14 partners from public and private sectors have worked together to develop the resources and content for the project.

The Online Assessment developed and project-managed for the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment by Skillnet Ireland, in conjunction with the other partner organisations, allows SME owners and managers to assess their own management skills in less than ten minutes by answering a series of questions about their management capabilities. They will then receive a bespoke report outlining their current level

NEW RIGHTS FOR CONSUMERS

The Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC) has welcomed the new Consumer Rights Act 2022, which came into force on November 28th 2022. The Consumer Rights Act will bring about a number of positive changes for consumers including:

Stronger rights to redress for faulty goods, including the straightforward option of cancelling a faulty purchase within 30 days for a full refund

Greater accountability for service providers, requiring tradespersons and vendors to provide tangible redress if services are not up to the agreed standard

A ban on fake reviews, with businesses prohibited from posting – or paying others to post – fake reviews for their products

New rules for online marketplaces like eBay, Amazon and Etsy, which will have to meet transparency requirements on search rankings and seller details

Protection for consumers of digital content and services, including the right to software updates

of skills and identify critical areas to improve upon. The Courses and Contacts resource allows them then to see at a glance the range of education and training providers, and provider groups, in Ireland, and to make contact immediately with an advisor who can direct them to the training and education they need.

The Leading the Way report found that the attitude of SME owners and managers to management development is central and recommends that management development must be a top strategic priority for all SMEs in Ireland. SMEs account for almost 70% of total employment in the business economy, so improving their performance is vital in helping to lift the whole economy. Skills for Better Business makes it easier for busy SME owners and managers to make this strategic priority a reality by continuing their management development journey.

Price Indication Directive

The CCPC also welcomed the introduction at the same time of the Price Indication Directive, which aims to end the practice of raising product prices immediately prior to a sale in order to advertise misleadingly large discounts. Since November 2022 any business advertising a discount is required by law to display the previous price which must be the lowest price applied in the previous 30 days. CCPC Consumer Contacts Report for Jan – Jun 2022

The Competition and Consumer Protection Commission has also released its Consumer Contacts Report for January – June 2022. The report details the number and nature of contacts to the CCPC’s consumer helpline. Key statistics include:

16,507 consumers contacted the CCPC helpline in the first half of this year, with faulty goods and services heading the list of reasons people got in touch.

Vehicles & transport and telecommunications topped the list of sectors the CCPC was contacted about between January 1st and June 30th of this year. based in Ireland, which will now be subject to the new Consumer Rights Act.

Guaranteed Irish Brooks is blooming

Delighted to be back in Irish ownership since 2021, Brooks are building on their reputation for timber excellence, while offering the full builders’ merchant experience. The Hardware Journal visited their flagship Bluebell branch and spoke with Branch Manager, Brendan Sammon.

2023 is off to a confident start for Brooks at Bluebell, the largest outlet in the Brooks Builders Merchant network of nine branches across Ireland.

Large is an understatement. The site, just off the M50, is mammoth. Over four acres and 100,000sq.ft. of high spec covered space, including an 8,500sq.ft. shop and trade counter, plus ample loading and parking facilities.

Brooks puts every inch to work as a full-service builder’s merchant, supplying building products, drainage and plumbing. The space is particularly valuable for their specialist area, timber. For years, Brooks has been the destination for timber quality and choice.

This is obvious from the extensive range of plywood and composite boards, softwoods, redwoods and hardwoods available from stock.

2021 was a landmark year for Brooks. The 200+ year old company returned to Irish ownership in August; purchased by the Murdock Builders Merchants Group.

The Murdock family share a successful history in the sector.

“They are very passionate about the business and bring a wealth of knowledge,” notes Brendan Sammon, Branch Manager at Bluebell.

“Their enthusiasm to see the Brooks business grow and fulfil its potential is evident from the level of investment since acquisition, and the support and encouragement provided to the management team.”

There has been significant investment in upgrading facilities, together with innovations and development in product range and services. Further growth is in the pipeline.

“Over the next few years Brooks plan to expand our branch network further via suitable greenfield opportunities, or acquisitions similar to our recent purchase of Kildare Builders Providers in 2022.” says Brendan.

Brooks serves builders, subcontractors, facilities management firms, joinery and offsite construction companies, and consumers, homeowners and DIYers.

“Trade customers primarily want competitive terms, product availability and fast collection or delivery. And recently, traceability of product and DOP documentation are more frequently required.”

Homeowners seek advice on product suitability in areas like timber flooring and bathrooms. Heating and energy-saving enquires have increased as a result of soaring energy costs. Obstacles into Opportunities

When asked about Brooks’ response to the volatility and challenges of recent years, Brendan noted: “all business is challenging; hardware can be particularly difficult at times as we experience the peaks and valleys of the wider economy.”

The pandemic demonstrated both the business opportunities and the supply chain problems for hardware merchants. “Successful merchants like Brooks were able to weather the storm. We benefited from strong supply chain relationships and the agility to respond to rapid changes in consumer demand.”

The current energy crisis is a case in point, motivating customers to make insulation and energy saving choices. Brooks is ready with the products and the expert advice. For trade customers, Brooks helps the construction industry by providing a just-in-time solution, product advice and credit. Of concern is the competition coming from open-seven-days big box and online retailers. To stay ahead, Brooks must innovate in products and services, build good relationships with customers and suppliers, prudently manage resources, and continually invest in staff.

Innovation and Outlook

In addition, Brooks has expanded their drainage and civils line-up. While in the sheet materials category, the range of technical plywoods is bigger than ever.

In the last year, the building product range was extended to include Ibstock bricks, Keystone masonry support systems, Aco drainage systems and an extensive insulation offering. Later this year will come new product developments in shuttering.

Brendan sees the major “emerging trends to keep an eye on will be in energy conservation, as green policy throughout Europe grows demand at consumer and trade level.”

“Products aimed at carbon reduction, such as heat pumps, will gain an increased market share. Acoustic insulation products will also gain in popularity as consumers look to improve the acoustic performance of older dwellings.”

“The performance of the economy will influence demand in our sector, but I am optimistic for the next few years, as Ireland has a growing population and strong employment.”

In 2015, Brooks achieved the Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC) Chain-of-Custody certification. This process assures customers that the FSC certified products they purchase are coming from well-managed forests, and that every step in the chain has been certified to ensure they are made responsibly. And that workers’ rights under the ILO Conventions and Health & Safety regulations are respected.

Brooks also stocks PEFC Certified (Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification schemes) products sourced from sustainable forests.

“We are fully audited twice yearly to maintain compliance with both schemes. This gives customers confidence.”

But most importantly, helps the growing number of customers, mainly from the trade and government agencies, who must specify certified timber products to help meet the European Timber Regulation and fulfil the Green Building Initiative.

Success keeps flowing for Pipelife Ireland

Unprecedented demand over the past two years

2022 was certainly a tale of two halves, it began with the biggest ‘pre-season’ order book in the ninety-year history of the business and ended with demand normalising back to 2019 numbers, says Niall Nugent, Sales and Marketing Director at Ames True Temper. The Cork-based company, which is part of the Ames Global Group, reported unprecedented demand over the past two years with sales almost doubling in that period.

Big gardening trends for 2023, according to the RHS

Flourishing houseplants, wildlife habitats and technology are among the gardening trends set to flourish in the UK in 2023, the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) has predicted. www.housebeautiful.com/uk

The annual predictions, based on horticultural trends and gardener enquiries in the UK, focus on Eco-friendly gardening. According to the RHS, 2023 will see keen gardener enthusiasts opt for innovative sustainable techniques, encourage more wildlife into their gardens and be very conscious about water use and capture following a summer of droughts.

Regenerative gardening

Creating the right habitat for wildlife to find shelter and food is key, but for 2023, the RHS predicts more gardeners will seek out environmentally friendly wood-based compost alternatives. With peat-based bagged compost not being favoured anymore many gardeners will turn to seaweed and biochar feeds instead.

Gardening goes technical

Gardening will go digital in 2023, with the RHS predicting that horticultural enthusiasts will be sharing online what’s happening in their gardens, participating in virtual courses, and planning and planting using phone apps. To help households click correctly, the RHS has announced it will be expanding its

range of digital services in 2023, building on the popularity of the RHS ‘The Garden App’.

Herb gardens

Fresh, garden-grown herbs are an absolute must for any kitchen gardener. According to the RHS, searches for herbs were up almost 600% in Autumn 2022, compared to 2021, with sought-after varieties including classics such as mint and coriander. Herbs are a cheap and easy way for people to add extra flavour to meals. Most herbs are easy to grow from seed, providing another cost saving, and can be sown indoors from March-April and outside from April-August. Many culinary herbs are hardy and perennial and will improve year on year.

Climate-resilient gardens

Following the possibility of many more heat and drought summers, gardeners will be looking for ways to future-proof their spaces for a more extreme climate,’ the RHS predicts. Gravel gardens and xeriscaping (gardens designed to minimise future watering) will be popular.

Changing lawns

Lawns are big on the agenda for 2023, with gardeners expected to let borders grow long for pollinators. A tightly clipped, weed-free lawn isn’t particularly wildlife-friendly, which is why a big trend for 2023 is ‘tapestry lawns’. Easy to try, this is made up of low-lying, intertwining flowering plants such as yarrow and selfheal and mini wildflower meadows with native plants like yellow rattle and cornflower.

The threat of a dry gardening season and lack of rain leaves gardeners in a watering predicament of when to water, and what to plant. We may also see dining al-fresco become more and more popular with outdoor kitchens accompanying garden furnishings.

Wall art and garden décor are also taking off as homeowners decorate their outside with as much care and thought as their interior. Metallic accents are steadily gaining popularity and can add warmth or a focal point outdoors. To incorporate metallics into the garden aesthetic, try advising the use of wall mirrors with thin silver frames and the use of metal lanterns to enhance pathways or as table centrepieces.

Houseplants

Houseplants are extremely popular both as a hobby and as interior décor as they are renowned for adding texture to your customers home space and can even improve their health. Biophilic design, which is all about incorporating nature into homes through design, will continue to thrive as it has shown that it can make us healthier and more productive. Houseplants with attractive foliage will continue to trend like Calatheas for example for their many different shapes and colours. With customers now looking for something new, there are 100`s to choose from to suit any room or taste.

This time last year’s January/February publication of The Hardware Journal saw Gabriel Villate, Export Director announce Bellota’s commitment to Ireland. Gabriel confirmed at the time that Southern Europe is the area to source good value tools for the professional and that Bellota is here to stay. It’s all about the mission

Since we first became aware of the impact of Covid and lockdowns on our industry, I’ve been talking about the influx of new consumers. It began with a trickle as consumers decided to use their now ample supply of spare time and money to improve their surroundings. By the middle of 2020 the UK just couldn’t get enough of DIY and Gardening and with tradespeople unavailable, we turned our hand to project after project.

These were not just millennials entering the market for the first time or renters doing a quick, low-cost makeover. These were homeowners, consumers of all backgrounds and ages, inspired by social media, guided by YouTube and influencers and with available cash, they were out there in their millions taking on Home Improvement and Gardening tasks every weekend.

The inspirational, lifestyle images of beautiful homes and gardens, now so widely available online and in the traditional media, have educated us to think in the language of a project, bitesize affordable tasks that can improve just one corner of a room or maybe the whole living space.

And the start-point of the project, the inspirational trigger, is the finished look. We see beautiful paint colours, amazing kitchens from retailers and manufacturers and then we see images shared by individuals like you and me, known as UGC (User generated content), persuading us that even with the basic of skills, we can make this happen in our own home, we can do it.

And these projects in and around the home and garden mean a lot to us, they’re part of the on-going process to improve our living spaces and in turn our lives. I’m sure we can all recall the positive feelings associated with the completion of a recent project. From simply looking out the window on a Sunday afternoon and the satisfactory feeling of seeing the cut grass and tidy garden that you’ve been working on all morning, through to the pride you feel when your new kitchen, bathroom or newly painted lounge is complete.

Images are known to strongly influence the way we act. Research has shown that we process visual stimulation

at lightning speed and lifestyle images are likely to stir strong emotions within us, which in turn can lead to action.

Our so-called ‘visual cortex,’ which is responsible for processing visuals, is much more powerful than we previously thought. In a recent study by researchers at Michigan State University, they looked at which parts of the brain were active during a series of visual stimulations and found that the visual cortex controls more than just the interpretation of images, it has its own decisionmaking power.

There’s a key learning here for all businesses who are currently generating content to help sell their products. As you approach your marketing efforts and the choices we make every day regarding investment, don’t overlook the powerful element of the completed project and the lifestyle visual and ensure that your visual marketing is professional, strategic, and totally focused on motivating your audience to act.

But here’s where we have a problem.

We’ve all been conditioned to think in terms of projects, inspired to act upon that visual stimulation to improve our homes and our lives. Emotionally we’re fully engaged, we’re excited to

achieve the result and we’re hungry for that feeling of pride. Our motivation levels are high, we are eager to get started and then we walk into a store.

The problem is that it feels like something has almost been lost in translation. The inspirational images have gone, there are no (or very few) completed projects on display, and we’re faced with aisle after aisle of individual functional products. Many of the new consumers entering our market have not completed these projects before, they are often clueless as to what products are required and without the clear guidance of a display or trained store staff, the shopping experience becomes painful. Just think for a moment of a standard project such as laying a wooden deck in the garden. The decking boards are often stored outside or in the covered garden centre, the other items required to complete the project; the screws, weed cover, sand, lighting, the tools, decking stain etc. are all located at different places around the store, often alongside a wide range of of alternative products, making the selection process incredibly difficult.

How do IKEA do it?

Now consider how IKEA do it. Inspirational project display is what IKEA do so well and is at the very heart of their success. Their stores are full of completed projects and inspirational room sets, displays that you can touch and feel and imagine inside your own home, with the list of the items you need to bring this to life in your own home. The images on their website and on their socials, have become reality and in the process, we uncover the true role of the store and its distinct advantage over a purchase online.

Unfortunately, it’s not practical to fundamentally change how we retail Home and Garden products and become more like IKEA; changing the layout of our stores would cost a fortune. But we also have a further challenge. When a customer walks into one of our stores and buys a product or transacts online, we just don’t know whether they’re buying these products as part of a broader project. We have no clues; we can’t talk to everyone as they enter the store and ask ‘Why are you here today?’ - although I guess we could experiment with this. Without knowing whether a customer is searching or buying to complete a specific project, as retailers and merchants we lose the opportunity to supply the entire project and in turn boost our basket spend, revenue and profitability. Not only that, but if we become the company that helps them achieve their own dreams, we help to improve their lives and the loyalty we generate will mean we’re the first point of contact for all their future projects.

The Wickes Mission Motivation Engine

The Home Improvement chain Wickes, with 233 UK stores, has spent the last two years trying to solve this challenge by investing in behavioural science, machine learning and building a deep segmentation of their customer base.

They started by digging into three years of historical data, including online and in-store transactions, search terms, browsing, any form of engagement a customer previously had with Wickes, combined with third-party data and insight into how consumers click on social, display and website content. The need to turn this huge amount of data into valuable insights for the business was first voiced by Gary Kibble, their Chief Marketing and Digital Officer. He joined the DIY retailer in January 2020 from his previous role as marketing director at Argos and he

sees Wickes as having a distinct “competitive advantage” based on being “digitally led and service enabled.”

Working with partners Team ITG and data science specialist Emerald Thinking they began to identify patterns in browsing and buying behaviour associated with a range of specific DIY projects or ‘missions’ as they referred to them. The output was the Mission Motivation Engine, a machine learning model incorporating all possible data sources.

Gary went on to explain ‘You need billions of rows of data to look for the common products purchased within a mission. The minute you start to go back over three years, you start to get a real sense of the sorts of products consumers buy or browse within a mission.

That allows you to group into common missions.

Based on these insights and a new segmentation strategy, Wickes revamped the way it communicated with its customers. They decided to ditch product-focused messages in favour of motivational messages demonstrating how Wickes can help customers achieve their goals.

Communications are triggered when a purchase is ‘spotted’ by the model and timed to match the length of the project. The retailer combines email, app push, social and landing page channels to guide consumers through their DIY project. The tone shifted from talk of sales to friendly hints and tips.

And the result, from a financial perspective they believe this investment in machine learning and segmentation has generated £7m in incremental revenue in the first six months of implementing the Mission Motivation Engine.

Summary

It’s clear that as consumers, we think, and we search by project, and we’re constantly being inspired to take on Home and Garden missions for the first time. As a result, we need help and support, we need a retailer or merchant partner that understands how we think, what we need and to guide us through the process; not just present us with thousands of products that we must search through ourselves.

I genuinely believe that the companies that truly understand this, that like Wickes change their approach will have a competitive advantage like no other.

A hallmark for sustainability in the DIY world

The Belgian DIY & Home Improvement retailer, Brico Belgium, moved a few months ago to a brand new building, just at the entrance of the Belgian capital in Brussels. The location at the Alfons Gosset Avenue is quite well known as the place where previously the Standard Group, one of the leading Belgian newspapers, had its offices and printing house. In itself, a move to a new building does not seem to be major world news, were it not for the fact that it is all about a pioneering and sustainable concept. In its position as the Belgian market leader in DIY, the company has more than one role to fulfil; let alone assume its ecological responsibility. The building activity constitutes the very basics and the essence of any construction project; then it only seems logical that you are expected to demonstrate and deliver how you yourself handle the skills of ‘’do-it-yourself” in harmony with the latest trends in construction and the urgent call for a greener world.

A world class example for the DIY universe

That is precisely what Patrick Vandenbogaerde, Managing Director, had in mind with the new headquarters of Brico Belgium, the Belgian head office of Maxeda DIY which also operates in The Netherlands (Praxis). “Indeed, we were challenged to start up and finish this thrilling project in the middle of the pandemic and at the threshold of the energy crisis; which honestly was more than a tough experience to cope with for our entire team”, says the boss at Brico Belgium.

As soon as you reach the Belgian capital from the South-West, the eye-catching and bright neon lighting, from a height of 25 metres, points the way to West Gate, a location where sustainability, functionality merge over a total area of 5,000 m² An awful lot of ink has already been spilled about the topic of sustainability; however, with this building we now finally have available a high-profile practical case, with facts and figures about what ecology and sustainability mean in concrete terms. This West Gate building is an NEN (Nearly Energy Neutral), modular and circular building that meets the strict EPB standards and requirements (Energy Performance Indoor Climate, Flanders).

Cradle-to-Cradle

As always, a building project is mostly the work of architects and master builders. However, in this case, Patrick Vandenbogaerde was the driving force; even though he was facing a highly complex economic climate during the postpandemic era, he still managed to set up an extremely

ambitious project that became financially viable.

State-of-the-art in architecture and ergonomy

The flexible building is erected with a recyclable four layer steel skeleton structure from which any layout can be customised, with remarkably few load-bearing walls and columns. All electrical and sanitary lines are under raised floors, designed and laid according to the cradle to cradle principle (maximum reuse of recycable and finishing materials eliminating the concept of waste) thanks to recyclable raw and finishing materials such as the raised floor tiles, 60% of which are made of recyclable paper fibre. All work areas are double-glazed, with automatic blinds controlled by a weather station. In addition, the climate ceilings provide regular heating and cooling throughout the building, which immediately eliminates condensation.

In line with all these energy-saving installations, heat pumps were installed on the roof structure. The ventilation system provides heat recovery that circulates above the climate ceilings.

There is LED lighting everywhere, equipped with motion sensors that switch on and off according to physical movements in the vicinity.

Last but not least, on the roof are 48 solar panels, all facing South, which maximises the energy efficiency. In addition, the building is equipped with rain tanks with a capacity of 40,000 litres; the water mainly serves to flush all sanitary facilities and other technical non-drinking water services within the building requiring water. The spacious 150 parking areas include the facilities for 16 vehicle charging stations, each good for 11 kilowatts. There is also a bicycle shed with electric charging plugs.

In summary, the overall concept counts on annual savings of ¤25,000 in energy consumption and maintenance.

A workplace for the Brico community

The West Gate building is conceived as a hybrid workplace. The 300 Brico employees have already experienced home working during the lockdowns. Today, they are allowed to work two days a week at home and expected to return to the head office for the rest of the week. The offices are designed as 264 flexible work and meeting areas equipped with ergonomic furniture and chairs.

These offices are located on the second floor where visitors also are welcome at the reception desk. The first floor is where all the product managers (global assortment) and the marketing specialists operate whilst their colleagues in accountancy and ICT occupy the third floor. The management teams (operations, HR, general management and executive secretary) jointly work together on the fourth floor. Finally, the ground floor is where Brico has its retail laboratory, an impressive area where the merchandisers and planogram specialists, jointly with suppliers, test the product ranges and assortments for the upcoming seasons which ultimately end up instore. A great feeling for each one of the 300 Brico team players is that each employee can enjoy a beautiful outside view as each workplace is surrounded by windows.

DIY-Home Improvement Sustainability

“The sustainability transformation for captains of retail is a major challenge and it requires major investments. However, it represents an opportunity for companies to save costs and create new business models in order to differentiate themselves from the competition”; said Frank Laizet, Sr. Partner McKinsey, during the latest Eurocommerce conference, held in Brussels in November 2022.

In that extensive McKinsey Report on sustainability, it suggests that even though we are facing an additional crisis, together we need to play our part to reach the goals and targets on climate change. We need to understand the necessary investments in order to take a couple of lengths advantage on the competition.

A View from Europe

There is a growing pressure to accelerate the sustainability pressure in DIY & Home Improvement, especially regarding renewable energy, such as in West Gate.

Circularity and waste management, both are part of the required shift from a linear economic model (use and dispose) to a circular business model (reuse and recycle) which leads to a substantial reduction in energy consumption.

It is the major merit of Brico Belgium to have converted these insights into a magnificient total concept.

HAI Training: Evolution to 2022

Hardware Association Ireland has a rich history of training and development dating back to the 1960s. Its current iteration of classroom and virtual-based training has been in place since 2015 and has been well received and supported by retailers, builders merchants and suppliers/ distributors alike. This has grown to other forms such as webinars, bespoke training and our Certificate in Hardware Retail and Merchanting. Here is a look back at the recent history of HAI’s training and how it has shaped our plans and will continue to do so in the years to come.

2015 started with three subjects covered: Credit Control, Finance for Non-Financials and Digital Marketing.

Innovation in payments drives real impact for the Hardware Sector

Hardware stores and builders’ providers have long relied on cash or cheque on delivery, but there have always been risks associated with these methods of payment. Drivers are delivering valuable goods, and there is the risk of these goods being accepted without payment completion. The most common alternative has been to take advance payment by card over the phone. However, collecting sensitive information in this manner carries another set of risks - non-compliance with GDPR, PSD2 & card scheme rules, data breaches, and fraud & chargebacks.

To overcome these barriers and create opportunities for business growth, the need for greater technological investment is paramount. Since its launch six months ago, Prommt is seeing interesting insights from the hardware sector. Payer adoption for Pay by Bank has not been as challenging as expected by the industry, and Prommt is noticing that Open Banking payments are quickly replacing traditional bank transfers and higher-value remote card

payments. The average transaction size through Pay by Bank is nearly double than through Pay by Card. Pay by Bank is propelling cumbersome bank transfers into Open Banking transactions.

How Open Banking is innovating payments chargebacks

Customers are redirected to their bank’s app for biometric authentication after confirming a purchase. There is no builtin chargeback mechanism - customers cannot dispute Open Banking payments, as it the Open Banking payment provider that executes the bank transfer on the customer’s request.

2. Sensitive customer data is not shared with the merchant, eliminating the risk of fraud

The only details transmitted are payment instructions - sent securely to the customer’s bank rather than the merchant. The risk of fraud and unauthorised transactions is minimisied.

While card payments and traditional bank transfers can take up to several days, Open Banking payments allow merchants to get paid in minutes.

4. No card processing fees

Merchants can significantly save on high card processing fees, especially for bulk orders.

Pay by Bank enables seamless invoice payments - straight from the invoice through a 3D Secure link. This saves staff’s time spent on administrative tasks involved in collecting payments, allowing businesses to scale efficiently.

Valuing and engaging staff is always a priority

As businesses across all sectors continue to navigate the ongoing changes in the world of work, the one thing that remains a constant is the need to create a meaningful and engaging workplace for our staff. Whether you are searching for talent or focused on retaining your key people, the culture and the work environment that employees experience on a day-to-day basis will determine their future with your organisation. They say that the challenge to retain talent, especially your top performers, is always an issue, no matter what is happening in the wider economy, because good people can always find good jobs. And the current changes we are seeing around us, especially in the Tech Sector as well as in a number of other sectors, means that even in this time of job losses and restructuring, we need to have plans in place to retain our talent, especially our key talent.

This time last year, up to one in five employees were thinking about leaving their current roles. And we saw people changing where they worked, how they worked and even the roles they performed. Now society has even more uncertainty to add into how employees make decisions. So while we need to continue to keep a close eye on the pathway of Covid into 2023, the War in Ukraine, the challenges with supply chain, the distribution of goods, energy costs, interest rates and the availability of affordable housing, not to mention the management of our personal finances, employees in our organisations are still making significant life changes which means we must ensure we create the environment where they want to stay. As Richard Branson once said, “Train people well enough so they can leave, treat them well enough so they don’t want to”. So, as employers we must try to reimagine the employee experience to keep them engaged and motivated. There are three key elements to be considered when devising a retention strategy for your business.

Firstly, understand what your staff data is telling you. If you are unsure about what data to focus on, consider some of these information sources.

Survey staff: Conduct staff surveys or short pulse surveys to gain the views of how staff feel about working in the company, what they are saying about the opportunity and the culture, and generally if they see a future career path for themselves. This gives you an insight into whether they are reluctant or enthusiastic stayers.

Your performance management process: review your process to see if it is delivering for you and if you can identify any drop in productivity or performance standards of an employee. This can be a key indicator that all is not well in the relationship.

Training and development: enquire and explore the ambition and motivation of your employees to invest in their personal development, skills development and overall, their interest in skilling themselves for the future within your business.

Secondly, look at your management practices and capabilities. During this time of ongoing change, it is critical to support the key stakeholders in the employment relationship. This means that the relationship between a line manager and employee is often the catalyst for individuals to consider a change or explore alternative opportunities outside the organisation.

Management development is an ongoing journey and businesses should ensure there is annual investment in this area, particularly during a global crisis. Competencies and capabilities in these areas are critical such as:

Regular, open and encouraging communications on a one-toone basis as well as in teams.

Investment in personal relationships. Getting to know and understand the individuals on the team and their passions and interests. About the job, life and their wider community. Capability to have meaningful coaching practices in place such as effective mentoring programmes, individual coaching for development, career progression models that are realistic and attainable.

Finally, look at the overall engagement of your employees. It is vital that you proactively empower, engage and grow your employees so that they stay for the experience and opportunity you can offer rather than staying because there is nowhere else to go, or they are unsuccessful in getting another job offer. All the studies show that managers are among the greatest influencers of employee engagement, this is a critical success factor that cannot be ignored.

Engagement in the psychological and emotional connection employees feel toward the work they do, their teams and the organisation. Engaged employees have a direct impact on customer retention, on driving efficiencies, and on embracing change. Engaged employees tend to live and demonstrate the company’s values on a day-to-day basis and are excellent ambassadors for the company. Therefore, it is important that you have initiatives in place that will promote the engagement of staff and reward the right behaviours. that you are fostering an environment of progression and trust.

Let’s shift the dial and create a work environment where employees flourish, have meaningful work, are doing roles that make an impact, and where you are showing they are important by investing in them for the future.

Cellular Opportunities - How your business can help close the digital divide in Ireland

In the previous edition of the magazine, my company Novatel featured an article detailing the benefits of and solutions available for enhanced Cellular Connectivity. With the use of professional mobile phone GSM repeaters and Fixed Wireless Broadband antennas and routers, Novatel provides solutions that make your digital connections faster, easier and more reliable. I would like in this feature to give you an insight into our business and to present to you an opportunity that exists for your business, as we move forward in this digital age and as the demand for fast reliable connectivity continues to grow. The advancement of cellular technology opened up a new era for communications and the network operators began investing millions of euros each year into cellular infrastructure throughout the country. The demand for mobile communications was growing at an unprecedented rate, the operators had a clear focus to invest and expand 3G, 4G & now 5G coverage. We saw an exciting opportunity for our business Novatel Communications.

We opened as a mobile phone store in 2007, also providing computer repairs and IT solutions for homes and small business. Our premises was and still is, based in our hometown of Buttevant.The store which is on the main street had its internet connection through DSL. The available bandwidth used to get us through the day but once school was over, contention issues would start to affect the download and upload connection and by 6.00pm we would experience total drop off. I was then trying to work from home but could not as my rural home had an old DSL line as well as very poor phone coverage, so I would have to call it a day.

Novatel was involved in the roll out of the National Broadband Scheme and the opportunity that mobile broadband presented was immediately apparent. It was going to change the broadband landscape and was fast becoming the alternative for traditional DSL broadband. It was also creating a new “on the move” connectivity, which fits in with the changing culture where the internet was required to be “on demand,” it also enabled services such as remote monitoring, basically anything or anywhere that needed to be online, MBB (mobile broadband) was the solution. It was early days and the product had its issues but it was the beginning of an exciting new era for internet and for Novatel.

The biggest problem that we identified was as follows; there was signal outside the house but not inside the house. The phones and routers inside the house were not receiving the signals that were being transmitted from the local cell tower. Also, the signal outside was not strong on ground level but generally improved once we went up a few meters to roof level. Knowing that if we could solve this problem, we would have

a solution that would not only solve our connectivity problems but those of our customers. And so, the hunt began, we started ordering and testing antennas from around the world. I found Poynting Antennas, who immediately came across as industry experts, so I eagerly made contact with their European office and ordered a small quantity of their XPOL 2 antenna. Having anxiously awaited its delivery, Frank, my husband and business partner, installed it on our home and we had immediate success! We now had reliable internet for the first time that was stable throughout the day/night. Upload and download speeds were immediately improved, our rural home had joined the digital age. That was over seven years ago, since then we have sold and installed thousands of Poynting antennas to homes, business, vehicles, boats, for many different applications throughout Ireland and beyond. We partnered with Poynting to become an authorised distributor and learned the correct installation procedures, learned about how the product works and the specifications of the different models. It was a big learning curve but with little to no failures, it has been and continues to be a tremendous success.

We quickly went on the search for a high-performance router to accompany the antennas and having tested many brands we found Teltonika and we again struck gold. A combination of these winning products gave us the next generation technology to supply and deliver first class broadband solutions to everyone, everywhere! These products solved internet connectivity problems, but one problem remained Mobile Phone calls and data, we struggled as did many of our customers, having to stand outside the door to take a call, missing calls, call drop offs all an absolute nuisance, especially when you rely on that phone to ring to increase your sales and conduct your business.
