BROKEN BUT I’M HEALED

This song is the anthem of every person who ever had to deal with the pain that only life can bring. When we go through the storms, we don’t give ourselves or God enough credit for getting through. Unfortunately, there are many of us who hurt and we don’t deal with the trauma or the pain of having a broken heart, no matter how it got that way. We have to understand that God is there before, during and after the storm. YOUR PAIN IS ONLY FOR A SEASON…NOT FOR A LIFETIME! It’s truly a blessing to know that God’s grace and mercy is always sufficient. I can’t count the many times I’ve failed and have fallen short and yes questioned my faith. Always remember that your seasons of grief, anger, depression and isolation were all very necessary! God was, and still is preparing you for your assignment! You are NEVER alone! Friends and family may drop you like you never existed but God is always there! HE IS PREPARING you for greater. Your battle scars are a reminder that the ENEMY DID NOT WIN!!

Ty Corbett-A phenomenal composer with social justice in mind. Interview by The Heat Seekers

After listening to several songs composed by Mr. Corbett, I smiled. I was happy to see someone bringing back music that stressed the need for social justice in the 21 century. It brought me back to the Donny Hathaway days when individuals talked about the problems around us instead of hiding them behind closed doors. With several recordings under his belt, Mr. Corbett is making waves in the industry with his music that will eventually spread across the nation. Teresa, I really appreciate your thoughtful introduction and you definitely hit the nail on the head in terms of bringing back the days when the message was equal to, if not even more important than just another nice song. Mind you, nice songs are fine and as I always say, “I’m not against short money”, but the importance of shining a light on matters of social justice is massively important…particularly at this time! The Heat Seekers: You wear a plethora of hats in the music industry. Tell us how you got started? Ty Corbett: I started as a singer, but now wear more hats than I can count. This has happened over time not particularly as a particular want, but as a need, particularly as I’ve never been one to shy away from hard work. That is a value I was taught as a young child. Some of the hats that I wear are that of singer, songwriter, producer, vocal arranger, recording mixing and mastering engineer. In recent years I’ve added videographer, director and video editor to my assortment of hats.. BTW, “The Bell Tolls For You” recently won a 2022 Hermes Gold Award for Video Creativity/Videography. I’m most proud of this as this is the very first release of my shooting with an actual camera. Prior, I was using my cellular phone. THS: What was your ultimate goal when you started writing lyrics? TC: The goal was quite simple. To affect the listener and perhaps take them on a journey they had not anticipated. I absolutely love telling stories with writing lyrics. It is a craft though that really develops over time and through many writings. I can look back on early work which may have shown talent as a writer. Though happy then, I can see my growth over the years as I write and create compelling imagery with it. You can really take a listener on a journey. There is a direct and indirect way of approaching lyrics. And when lyric writing is really good, each listener can possibly

derive a slightly different intent as to the meaning of the lyric. I tend to write both ways, intentionally and unintentionally. With “The Bell Tolls For You”, it is obviously a very direct message, though there are some hidden gems in regards to lyric and even visual presentation. THS: Is music a full time job for you? TC: Yes, music is my full-time job currently, but life has a tendency to provide pivots though, so I’m always prepared for any and everything! THS: You have some extraordinary talents. Please tell us your experience pertaining to other areas of entertainment and the arts. TC: I’ve had the great fortune working across genres, as well as the technical spectrum of the entertainment industry. As a singer, I’ve toured nationally and internationally touring with and providing background vocals for some of the industries most elite smooth jazz artists like Will Downing, Gerald Albright, Norman Brown and Lalah Hathaway, but there have been festival dates and tours with many artists of whom I’ve had a great love for like Al Jarreau and George Benson. Touring on the road itself can provide many contacts and be great for making contacts. In terms of those different hats I wear, one thing that I am really proud of is having worked on a Billboard #1 Jazz Record as an engineer and providing background vocals for a Grammy winning Folk Album as a background singer. That’s diversity and genres and skill sets. THE HEAT SEEKERS MAGAZINE

9

THS: How long does it normally take to write, record, and distribute a song? TC: This can vary significantly, I’ve written songs over days, weeks and months. I’ve learned to work the writing muscle, so if a project demands a quick turn-around, I can do it. Outside of that, if I have the opportunity, I prefer to sit with the lyrics and think of ways can tell a story other than what’s already been said before. I’ve heard many in the industry and even artists say that it is not possible to write creatively as it’s all been done before, but I completely disagree. Btw, I find nothing wrong with writing lyrics which are simply lite and fun and that can be a super-fast write, but even then, I like to challenge myself. In regards to writing, recording, then releasing the song, that is dependent upon the set goals, but you can do it soup to nuts depending on the parameters. Here is an example I can provide that is not the norm for me, but is a good example of a start to end project. “The Bell Tolls For You”, contrary to what many people assume, was actually written in 2018. I recorded the demo and then started shopping the song. I had a number of bites. I was even told it was an incredible song, but for a number of different reasons, I had not placed it yet. I then decided to release the song independently, but first had to find an artist. Ultimately, I found J.D Wesley, a phenomenal singer! We took a couple of weeks recording the song. This mind you not because of any rough patches, but because I wanted to really dig into the song with J.D and make it special for and with him. After the recording sessions, I had to mix the record and then we shot the video a few months later. This was due to scheduling issues. Editing the video took a few weeks. The project was then released late Dec. 2021. So, from start to finish, “The Bell Tolls For You” took about 3 months to complete and again, that’s with a music video included.

THE HEAT SEEKERS MAGAZINE

THS: You have a long list of recordings and individuals you have worked with. What are you most proud of achieving? TC: That’s such a great, but difficult question to answer as there have been so many wonderful moments over the course of my career. The industry achievements of having worked on a Billboard #1 and a Grammy Record checks off a couple of significant boxes. Having been invited to have a business meeting with legendary songwriter, Carole Bayer Sager and super producer, David Foster is certainly a highlight. Carole then introduced me to Babyface and Daryl Simmons. The list goes on and on and I have found each experience to be compelling. It is always gratifying when you meet those in the industry to admire and respect. Recently, I also had a song recorded by an impressively large artist, but those are things of which we do not speak…lol! At the end of the day, I am a fan at heart though, so each moment is encapsulated. THS: What keeps you going? TC: That’s easy…my family! I work hard so that I might have a rich legacy for my children and I don’t mean just rich monetarily speaking. Creatively speaking, I continue to grow artistically and even with all the evolution in the entertainment industry, I’ve been able to stay competitive. Lastly, I simply love the creative process! TE: You have been deemed as the writer of the social justice anthem. Tell us about your campaign for social justice? TC: “The Bell Tolls For You” has been called the new social justice and voting rights anthem. These are not my words, but those who have heard the song. I do think it speaks to the climate and issues we have been facing over the last number of years. While it is an artistic creation that I am proud of, I think it’s equally important from the messaging

perspective. I am also the child of a civil rights activist, so for me it is the extension of the work of my father. While it is great to enjoy music, I also think it’s important to not forget that music has always BEEN USED AS A MEAN OF galvanizing….particularly in the area of social justice. THS: Who inspired you in Music? TC: I have many hero’s in music, but the person who most inspired me to choose a career in music and the entertainment industry is my uncle Butch. While he is no longer with us, he is the reason I started this journey. He was a doowop singer and had an incredible voice and vibe. THS: What is your greatest hope for the music industry today? TC: The entertainment industry has let me down more than, or twice in regards to what is and has been happening. It is often so very disconcerting that one can miss the great musical voices that are out there. Though not always mainstream, I am impressed and inspired with what’s being created by some young people. THS: If you could give any advice to a young music artist, what would it be? TC: Do your homework. Learn the industry and not just the areas that interests you. You never know when that pivot will come and typically it will. I promise. I also tell aspiring artists to learn about more than just the genre they are interested in. Music is not a monolith and growth comes particularly when one challenges themselves as opposed to doing what is often considered easy and most comfortable. My parents supported my pursuits in the entertainment industry, but also encouraged me to get a good education which continued to pay dividends. THS: What are your future goals pertaining to music? TC: I’m excited as I have several songs and music videos

Ty Corbett produced “The Bell Tolls For You” by J.D. Wesley.

coming out. The next release is on American Idol Finalist, Michael Lynche. That song is called, “End of the Line” and true to my ethos it’s an altogether different thing than “The Bell Tolls For You”. It is a Rock/R&B monster! THE: Name what’s most important to you in the music industry at this time? TC: My goal is to continue to put out good quality music and maybe, just maybe wear a few less hat’s, but I’m never afraid of getting my hands dirty and doing the work. Briana Cole: Multti-talented Entertainment Mogul Interview by Lissha Sadler of Hardcore Grind

Intro: Briana Cole is a multi-talented entertainment mogul in the book and film industries. An Atlanta native, proud mother of three, and active member of the illustrious Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated organization. Known as The Literary Drama Queen, Briana is the author of the nationally acclaimed Unconditional Series and has also penned several novels under her alternate pseudonym, Brielle Montgomery. In 2019, she launched Blacktion, a digital, interactive magazine spotlighting black creative entrepreneurs. Adding to her many accolades, Briana is a co-Screenwriter and Associate Producer for the pulp urban noir film Gutta Mamis: Money Bag Tales and Trap Soldiers. As an actress, she has been in several community theater projects, commercials, movies, and tv shows, including Fatal Attraction and Trois 3: The Escort. Favorite Quote: “You only live once, but if you do it right, once is enough.” ~ Mae West Lissha Sadler: A black woman who can write is powerful. What does the power of your pen mean to you? What intrigues you the most about writing and storytelling? Briana Cole: The ‘power of the pen’ is the ability to provide a source of peace and escape. I think that requires unique talent. That same power also intrigues me the most about writing and storytelling. Stories are meant to be immersive, and the good ones can draw in readers and transport them to other lives, if you will, where characters are living, breathing creatures that you could pick out of a lineup or hear their voices in a crowd. It’s being able to control those narratives creatively, making my readers laugh, cry, get angry, become aroused, love, hate, and love some more, all with my words. LS: How does your creativity flow? What keeps you going? Do you ever get discouraged, and why? BC: My creativity can ebb and flow in various ways, depending on how passionate I am about what I’m writing. Sometimes, it’s easy, and I can’t seem to write fast enough to keep up with the flow. Other times, I may have to stimulate my creativity, either with music or sitting down in a place to put me in the right frame of mind (the lake, a park, etc.). I can get discouraged when the words aren’t flowing as I want them. It’s like I can see it in my mind, but the words are not translating onto the paper as well as they’re playing in my head. When that hap pens,

16

THE HEAT SEEKERS MAGAZINE

I have to step away for a moment to give myself a break. Otherwise, my words will sound flat and forced. What keeps me going is my determination, for sure. I have a story to tell. If I don’t tell it, the world will never hear it. So if that means pushing through the challenges, then so be it. Because when I type ‘The End,’ that will make it that much more rewarding. LS: What writers have influenced you the most and why? BC: Oh, so many, but I have a good four off the top of my

head. Kimberla Lawson Roby, of course, because she is the Queen of Plot Twists. Roby also has a knack for jaw-dropping scandal and memorable characters that keep me up at night. I try to emulate Roby’s talent for creating unique twists that suspend readers on a roller coaster of emotions. Like her, my intention is for my audience to expect the unexpected. Also, my Soror Victoria Christopher Murray. Each of her books feels almost as if I am watching a movie keeping me on the edge of my seat. I use her work as a reminder to achieve that perfect balance of show and tell to create immersive and evocative realities. Then there is Terry McMillan, who is amazing with her character development. I can become so engrossed in her stories because not only are they entertaining, but her characters are so real and relatable I think of them as friends and family. She can write them off the page in such a way that I am rooting for them. When I write, I keep Terry McMillan in mind and bring the same humanity and authenticity to my characters. Like her, I want my characters to speak to readers, and whether you love or hate them, you are invested in their stories and outcomes. Finally, there is Dr. Maya Angelou, who can craft poetic prose that sounds almost musical. She has a way of putting together words that speak directly to emotions and has an underlying depth that will resonate even after you finish her piece. In my writing, I try to channel my inner Maya Angelou with my word usage, keeping my language smooth and poetic while carrying enough depth to make you think. LS: Authors have become the pioneers of the African American community. How does that make you feel to be one of the elites? BC: I have to admit, I don’t think I’m there yet. But I am getting there. I want to inspire my kids and other young black women to strive to make a name for themselves in the creative industries. That is what is so fulfilling about what I do. And I can only hope my passion shows through in my work. LS: Your latest book, “Couples Wanted,” is a change from what you usually write. Can you talk about that story and its birth? BC: Couples Wanted was a fun and compelling story to write. Like all of my books, it contains some Briana Cole signatures, so you know it’s a part of the same “universe.” However, I wanted to touch on different topics that will stimulate conversations and increase awareness about

specific communities. The story is about an adventurous newlywed couple, Bridget and Roman, who meet a swinging couple, Corrine and Patrick, and decide to give it a try. However, Corrine and Patrick become almost possessive after the encounter. As their stories intertwine, both of our couples begin to learn more about each other, and ultimately, themselves. This story was birthed from one of my what-if scenarios. What happens when things go wrong in an unconventional relationship? Where is everyone left standing when the dust settles? In true Briana Cole fashion, this story will entertain and educate and leave readers with a lot to discuss even after the book ends. LS: How have you grown as a writer over the years? What do you know now that you didn’t know when you started? BC: I have grown tremendously as a writer over the years. I have learned the importance of building my audience to have longevity in my field. It’s not enough to just put out a good story, but I need people to read these stories. So, I spend a lot of time branding myself so that people trust me, my brand, and the quality of my work. LS: If you could change anything about the literary industry, what would it be? BC: I would make traditional publishing more accessible to independent authors. I would also provide independent authors with more bestselling lists, awards, and accolades. LS: What advice do you have for aspiring authors? BC: I have a few things. 1) The best writing is rewriting. I once read a book called “Shitty First Drafts.” The author discussed getting out of your ‘editor’ mode and staying in the ‘creative’ mode to get your story written. He says your first draft will be horrible, and that is okay; get the words out. That has been something that has resonated with me for years. Even my Soror Author Victoria Christopher Murray calls it “vomiting on the page.” Don’t try to make that first draft perfect because it’s not supposed to be. Just get the story on the paper. It’s so much easier to polish it up later. 2) Be disciplined. I used to write when I felt “inspired,” which led me to procrastinate. Pretty soon, years had gone by, and I hadn’t written anything. It takes discipline to be a great author, which means writing even when you don’t necessarily want to. Make it a habit to write consistently. 3) Rejection is okay. Several publishers and agents rejected me before I found my fit. The rejection letters I received were motivating. Plus, it allowed me to shop around and find the perfect agent and publisher for me. Everything happens for a reason, and a ‘no’ can mean ‘not with me’ or ‘not right now.’ 4) Keep pushing because the world needs your story, and only you can write it. THE HEAT SEEKERS MAGAZINE

17

LS: You are a very accomplished author and actress, adding the titles of a co-Screenwriter and Associate Producer. What made you step into the film industry? BC: I was bit by the acting bug at 12, but I started theater. I stepped into the film industry as a way to marry my two passions of writing and acting. To me, they’re like two sides of the same coin. In both industries, I can tell a story and bring characters to life, either through my pen or through my performance. I can also appreciate how both outlets strengthen each other when creating my narratives. LS: What has it been like to live the Hollywood life? What are some of the challenges you have faced during this journey, if any? BC: It keeps me busy, that’s for sure. But it’s a good dynamic. Often times, I am juggling writing one book, marketing another, writing screenplays, auditions, taking acting classes, photoshoots, outlining new ideas, and pitching, just to name a few things. For example, when I finished making my movie, I went about planning this elaborate red-carpet movie premiere (which was amazing)! But I’ve prayed for this, so I am undoubtedly enjoying the ride and looking forward to the following levels.

My biggest challenge during this journey is finding the time to do everything. I have my hands in a lot, and between all of my business ventures, my full-time job, being a mommy, and everything else in between, I have to squeeze in every second I can. Plus, I have to make some sacrifices (like sleep, lol). Thankfully, I have a phenomenal support system which most certainly helps! LS: If you could change anything about the film industry, what would it be? BC: I would provide more resources and opportunities for independent filmmakers, such as getting their movies made on shoe-string budgets and distributing platforms to get their films seen. The market is so competitive, and right now, many great filmmakers and screenwriters are getting lost in the shuffle. LS: Moving forward in your career, what can we expect from you next?? BC: So much! Next year, I will be releasing my movie, Pseudo, and I’m already in talks with some people on another feature film and a TV series I’m writing. Plus, more book releases. But this is only the beginning. My company, Brenaissance, is a game-changing experience, and I’m priding myself on being more than books. Movies, plays, non-profit organizations, speaking engagements, scholarships, you name it. If it’s in the creative space, I want to have a hand in it. It’s only up from here! enVision Together: Going to Our Next Level of Best Interview by Angela Anderson

“Transparency is the foundation for stimulating discussions from the heart.” – Dr. Pamela Mshana Dr. Pamela Mshana, host of enVision Together: Going to Our Next Level of Best podcast, is an author, speaker, coach, and educator (who earned her Ph.D. in Urban Leadership). Her mission is to help people from diverse backgrounds use their talents and gifts for the good of the masses. The enVision Together podcast is an inspirational show that allows guests to share their expertise and passion on various topics. It is designed to help listeners gain a fresh perspective on achieving results in these areas. Over the years, Dr. Mshana has determined that one way to put your worries aside is to focus on purpose. She is a firm believer that if you continue to reach your next level of best, you can help others along in the process. Thus, you have enVision Together podcast as a resource to help others on their journey of meeting their next level of best. The podcast explores timely topics such as overcoming anxiety and fear, educating the reluctant learner, cultivating lasting relationships, and strengthening one’s faith. The enVision Together podcast has created a space of transparency, candid conversations, and discussions to benefit and be a valued resource for the listening audience. The Heat Seekers Magazine had the opportunity to speak with podcast host Dr. Pamela Mshana. Check out what she had to say about the enVision Together: Going to Our Next Level of Best podcast. Angela Anderson: How did you get started in podcasting? Dr. Pamela Mshana: It actually wasn’t a goal that I had for my life, but I now understand that it’s something I am called by God to do. About a year ago, I very heavily sensed that I needed to start doing something aligned with my sense of purpose. I didn’t know what that something was. I participated with a Christian group of entrepreneurs called Life on Fire and participated in TD Jakes’ Leadership Summit. Well, prior to that, God told me in my prayer time that He is revealing Himself through fire, and I didn’t know what he meant. Shortly after that, I became aware of the two previously mentioned events. Both of them happen to use fire as their logos. One thing led to the next, and I started a podcast, much to my surprise.

AA: What inspired you to start the envision Together: Going to Our Next Level of Best podcast? PM: I’ve always believed that people should help one another with whatever is in their hands, so to speak, like when God asked Moses what was in his hand? We belittle the gifts given to us because we don’t value what’s in our hands as much as we might value someone else’s gifts and talents. I’m calling everyone to use what’s in their hand, whether it’s a life lesson learned, a particular skill, talent, advice, coaching, or ministry, to offer their knowledge and service to others. By doing so, we increase each other’s human and social capital. Maybe it will improve people’s financial capital too. My podcast is my way of trying to make the world a better place, one episode at a time and maybe even one person at a time. AA: What makes the enVision Together podcast unique? PM: The guests who share on my show have a common interest in helping others improve their quality of life from the inside out. How? Through whatever God has given them to share, expertise on a particular topic, encouragement, motivation, and practical steps to improve in a particular area. What I love is that my guests are very candid. When I ask them to be a bridge for others regarding their topic, if they hesitate at first, they always relax and step up to the task. Being a bridge is being vulnerable and candid about difficulties in their lives before they reach success. I ask the guest to share in this way so my audience knows that everyone faces challenges. Nobody was born with all the answers, and through perseverance, anyone can achieve. It’s a way of making very successful people seem less intimidating and accessible to my audience. I want them to see our human frailties along with our accomplishments, so they will know success is possible for them too.

AA: Share some of the behind-the-scenes of what is involved with making one enVision Together podcast episode? PM: When a guest contacts me, or I contact them, a pre-chat is requested. This initial conversation is to see if we’re truly a good fit for an episode that will add value to my particular audience and make sure the topic is something my audience expects from my show. If the pre-chat turns out to be a match, we move forward with me designing questions based on what I learned from researching the potential guest. I send out an Agreement to be signed and returned, and request their approved bio, photo, and preferred place for guests to contact them. We also set a date for the actual interview. After we record, my editor prepares the recording for release and creates audio snippets and hanging quotes for advertisements that are shared with the guest. AA: What is an aspect of your podcast that brings you tremendous joy? PM: I love that in seeking to help others, I, too, receive help. I genuinely love to learn and grow and have sincere interests in a myriad of topics. I’m a conduit to get information (a type of water) to others, but I get wet in the process. I love the wonderful people I get to meet and the insightful conversations I get to have. But nothing is better than when a listener contacts me and says that a particular episode was recorded just for them. I don’t always release the episodes in the order that they were recorded so when someone says they were going through something at the very time an episode about their concern was released, I feel confirmed that I’m in the place of my purpose. It’s a lot of work to do the show, but I am so fulfilled by this journey. God once asked in my heart, “If it helps just one person, would you still do it?” I said, “Yes.” AA: What can a listener expect to receive when they tune into the enVision Together podcast? PM: They can expect to learn and grow from a diverse group of hand-picked guests who have something of value to add to their lives on various topics. Some will really hit home for an individual audience member, but if they listen carefully, something enriching either spiritually, practically, intellectually, or all three can be gleaned from each episode. AA: What is one piece of advice you would share with someone who wants to start a podcast? PM: Do it afraid because it can seem intimidating at first, but then you find your sweet spot, and it takes off and becomes great fun!

24 THE HEAT SEEKERS MAGAZINE

AA: You have been busy. We were told that you are an author in addition to being a podcast host. Tell us a little about your June 2022 release. PM: I am releasing my debut novel, girls in search of cover; it’s a book that has wrapped arms around my younger self and helped her heal from sexual violation. It’s my hope that it will do the same for readers who have been such victims. It can also help readers who know someone who has been abused gain understanding in which to support. One of the strongest elements of the novel is the generational aspect and the psychological journey of the characters shared with the reader. In a nutshell, it’s a story of a girl’s journey from abuse to self-love. AA: In honor of Mother’s Day, what motherly advice would your now adult self share with your younger 16-year-old self? PM: Wow, there are so many things I’d say, like believe in yourself now and follow your heart and gut more than the voices around you that meant well but weren’t the right advice to follow. But, specifically from a mother’s POV, I’d say you’re enough, and you’re beautifully and wonderfully made. I hope all young people come to that conclusion a lot sooner than I did. AA: What’s next for the enVision Together podcast? PM: I hope to do a podcast tour in 2023 to spread the word. I have an international audience and a lot of faithful listeners. I believe it can be a blessing to so many more who haven’t heard about it yet. AA: Share with us where and when people can listen to the enVision Together: Going to Our Next Level of Best podcast. PM: People can listen to enVision Together: Going to Our Next Level of Best podcast on Apple podcast, Spotify, or wherever they choose to listen to their podcasts. A new episode is released bi-weekly on Monday mornings at 7:00 am. AA: How can people stay connected with Dr. Pamela Mshana? PM: They can connect with me on my website, www.pamelamshana.com. They can also find me on various social media platforms. Facebook: @Pamela Mshana Instagram: @pamela.mshana.37 Twitter: @PamelaMshana

The Slap Back by DAViD SPENCER

Not to beat a dead horse, but I want to talk about it, and since this is my space, I will. I am sure you have heard by now that Will Smith slapped Chris Rock at the Oscars. Then Red Table Talk Premieres and addresses the Will Smith Oscars Slap, without addressing the Oscar slap by saying it will be discussed ‘when the time Calls.” I remain suspicious of people who publicly deal with other people’s issues but privately ignore their own. And now we have Dave Chappelle being attacked onstage performing at the “Netflix Is a Joke” comedy festival. Telling jokes is becoming a dangerous business.’ Rhetoric, or the art of speaking, has been around since ancient times. For FOREVER, people have stood to inform, criticize, and entertain audiences worldwide, delivering commentary about the world around them in which we live. Sometimes they say things the audience doesn’t agree with. Comedians are some of the best practitioners of this art form. The best ones have mastered making people laugh at themselves and even things that should not be laughed at. Isn’t that kind of the point? In my experience, the funniest jokes are the ones that probably shouldn’t have been told. These are the ones that stay with you and cause you to reflect later. It’s really an art form.

to take you out. Did you see that picture of the guy that attacked Dave Chappelle? Who hit that man in the face? He looked like he was jumped. My takeaway from all of this is people don’t really want to be equal; they want to be special. Equal means you get equal protection from the law. But you are not special. Comedians can and will tell jokes about you. Welcome to equality. You’re not exempt from jokes. That is the price of free speech. It seems comedians don’t plan on backing down, and they slap back. David Spencer is a communications professional, gifted singer, public speaker, and author. His voice can be heard loud and clear, regardless of the medium he chooses. He is responsible for influencing the people around him through his works.

People these days have become way too sensitive. If the jokes are too unbearable, just leave. Remove yourself. You don’t even have to do it quietly either. Make a scene as you run to the door. But be advised, comedians everywhere are on high alert, and if you start heading for the stage, many are warning you they plan

Romeo Johnson THE HEAT SEEKERS MAGAZINE

Renowned Singer-Songwriter, Composer, and Vocal Coach Interview by The Heat Seekers

The Heat Seekers: Tell us about yourself? Who is Romeo Johnson? Romeo Johnson: Romeo Johnson born in Chattanooga Tennessee, Youngest of four. My Parents were from Birmingham, Alabama. They were together for 62 years so I was blessed to witness both of them in my house. We were raised as a Christian Family, very close knit. And my Mom sang in church. That’s initially what inspired me to sing and All of my siblings are somewhat musically inclined. I went through middle school and high school interested in sports and then realized that music was my passion. I eventually decided to move to Los Angeles California because that seemed to be the place where all of the major artists had management and I learned that from reading credits. So, I wanted to go where the happenings were. THS: How did you get your start in becoming a vocal coach for celebrities? RJ: I was playing bass guitar for Ollie Woodson and he realized that I could sing so he started making me sing with him and everyone attended Ollie’s shows. At that time, I was starting out, I was young, I had my family and I was trying to pay the bills. There were job openings for bass guitarist and there were job openings for vocalist and I was going for both. And I did both, …with Vesta Williams, I did vocals and with Jody Whatley, bass. I did bass and vocals with Sheena Easton and then I got the gig with Janet Jackson as a vocalist and that tour was just so popular and it lasted so long. I was on that tour for almost 3 years. So, by it being so covered by MTV and all that, the world saw me as a singer. Afterwards, I started getting a lot of gigs as a singer. The funny thing is because I didn’t set out to be a singer, I’d figured out ways to make it work for me very untraditionally. You know so I grew up singing but I wasn’t a super technical guy. I had asthma my whole life so I had to figure out how to manage my breathing on my own. I had to figure out how to mimic the people that I loved. So later when I saw other singers struggling I was able to look at them and say, “you’re having this problem aren’t you?“ I’ve had that issue too. This is how I fixed it and that turned into a vocal coach position and title. People gave me that title and then I became a Celebrity vocal coach because I started coaching some of the celebrities I was working with although I wasn’t hired as their coach sometimes. I’d still coach them at times. There’s a difference between someone who hires you to be

28 THE HEAT SEEKERS MAGAZINE

their vocal coach and someone who you know you’re in the mists of. …with Vesta, Janet and Michael, I was their background singer. It just so happens that at times I was able to point coaching tips out to them. There was a guy named Shannon Ridley, we called him Slam and he was P Diddy’s A&R guy. I met him in a vocal recording session and he connected me with P. Diddy to do some coaching for Diddy’s “Last Train to Paris” project. Diddy then asked me to coach Cassie and then Diddy put me on 2 shows on MTV “StarMaker” and “Making His Band” Suddenly my coaching title and exposure became internationally exposed. THS: What made you decide to take vocal coaching as a career? RJ: I actually feel that the decision was made for me. I had my plan and God had His! I just chose to be obedient. THS: Who gave you your first opportunity? RJ: I would say probably Ollie Woodson former lead singer for The Temptations was the first one who put me on the music scene in LA. Who gave me my start as far as touring Vesta Williams. I toured with Vesta Williams my very first tour and I became her background section leader and oddly enough I ended up helping her with her vocals although she was a phenomenal artist. THS: Whose footsteps did you follow? RJ: No one’s! I didn’t follow anyone’s footsteps. I actually have a book that I wrote called “Following The Voice” and that book is an inspirational autobiography that talks about

the fact that I’ve never had management nor have I had an agent. I literally pursued this career just by talking to God and asking him to lead me. And Gods voice literally was what I’ve followed throughout this whole career. Lots of times I did things that people didn’t think were a smart move nor popular but it always played out. I didn’t follow anyone’s footsteps but my footsteps were ordered by God. THS: Who was your biggest influence in the industry and why? RJ: Prince! Hands down was the biggest influence for me. When I was coming up I loved the fact that this guy played multiple instruments and did all of his writing and production. And I love the fact that he had the ability to sing all of his harmonies. His voice and my voice were very similar so I was very drawn to him as far as being an all around artist and the fact that he had a low baritone speaking voice like mine but he was able to sing in falsetto a lot, I connected with him immediately when he came out and I’ve been a fan of his since his first song, “Soft and Wet”. THS: When did you know that you had a gift to sing and write songs? RJ: I guess I always knew I had a gift to sing because I grew up singing, but I just didn’t understand the value of it. Then I started to learn the value a little more in 11th grade when I sang in my high school talent show

people were in awe of this young guy playing bass but when I sang, the response let me know there was something a little special. THS: Tell us about your journey being the vocal coach for Janet and Michael Jackson? RJ: So again, I was not hired to be Janet and Michael’s vocal coach. I was hired to be their background vocalist. …clearly Michael Jackson didn’t need anyone to teach him how to sing. Lol! …but no matter who you are there’s always a need for a coach to watch when you’re slipping off techniques or when you’re doing something in ways that could damage you; So, with Janet and Michael that’s pretty much the role that I was blessed to be able to play. I was a background singer for both of them; with Janet for much longer and Janet was very open and willing to listen to my suggestions at times and it was just things that I would help her out with and it became more so background singer turned friend who helped with vocals. Same thing with Michael, Michael was a Genius nobody really has to coach him to learn how to sing but there were times that I noticed of course in aging and probably going long lengths of time without singing he was starting to do some things that I was just blessed to be in a position to kind of go to him one-on-one only maybe two or three times and say, “Hey Mike, you’re doing this thing …Is that uncomfortable for you because it sounds like it’s a strain. Why don’t you approach it this way? You know and he was receptive and he was appreciative. So, that’s what that was about. THS: What was it like on tour with the Jackson’s? RJ: It was incredible! It was prestigious, it was fun, and it was life changing. The exposure to things that I would have never even known to desire to do nor places to go or things to see. And I learned so much. Janet’s tour was amazing, Michael’s tour was amazing and they were totally different, totally different energies but they were both incredible. Janet’s tour was first and it changed my entire life in all kinds of ways. By the time I got with Michael, it was a whole different meaning that that tour gave to me in where I was in life and it was incredible! And I am blessed to be able to say that I’m the only Vocalist to ever tour with both Michael and Janet Jackson. THS: How long did you tour with them? RJ: I toured with Janet for about almost three years. I toured with Michael 3-4 months. I was a member of his THE HEAT SEEKERS MAGAZINE 29

band for a while but he started to have all of these issues with these accusations so although I was technically a member of his touring band we weren’t doing a whole lot of gigs. THS: Talk about the biggest failure you’ve had. What did you learn from it? RJ: I don’t think I’ve had any real failures. I don’t see anything in my career as a failure that I can think of. Mistakes that I’ve made are probably trusting people, trying to see good, not noticing that everyone in this industry is not like me and just because I give a certain energy off to certain people that doesn’t mean they’re going to give it back to me. I learned that you should take a second and allow your discernment to show you who a person is before you pour too much time, energy and investment in them, …unless you just want to give. And sometimes I do. I just want to give but there are times that there’s an expected exchange and you don’t get that. So experiences like that were things that I thought well, that was not what I expected the outcome to be but I don’t see any of it as a failure or not even a mistake because God always turns it around for the better. My blessings are based on my intent when I was doing it…not necessarily their return. THS: You have trained so many artists and musicians to date. What advice can you give other individuals who want to become artists? RJ: It depends on what type of artist you want to be. You know these days there are people who want to become an artist because they love the craft and they want to be able to show the blessing that they have. The blessing they’ve been given in their gift. They want to be the best artist they can be. Some other people just want to share and bless people. You know, touch their hearts. Some people want to make a lot of money and some people just want to be famous so depending upon what you want out of it determines what I think you should do. These days you know, if you want to call yourself an artist you can get online and do something ridiculous and become famous for doing something foolish. If you want to be the artist that I develop…the people that I develop…I want them to take pride in what they do and be the best that they can be not only in the musical or vocal performance

30

THE HEAT SEEKERS MAGAZINE

or execution but also touching hearts. I want to make sure that I show my clients how to use your instrument in a way that is technically proper but also, so that it is used to move people in the way that they should be moved. THS: What does a typical week look like when coaching? RJ: I try to take Sundays off, my Saturdays are usually light, but sometimes I do book on Saturdays. Monday – Friday I’m teaching multiple clients, multiple hours each day from all around the world. Sometimes my lessons are 11am t and sometimes they’re 1 or 2am depending upon what country the client is calling from but it’s busy and it’s steady. I’ve had an Adjunct Professorship at The University of Southern California Thornton School of Music in the Pop Music Dept. where Patrice Rushen serves as Chair for the past 8 years so I travel from Las Vegas to Los Angeles sometimes twice a month. THS: What keeps you going in the industry? RJ: The love that I have for music, The love that I have for GOD and the desire to be a good steward over the gift that he’s given me and the love that I have for seeing people prosper and grow as a result of me being a part of their development. That’s the best self-gratification and that’s what keeps me going in this industry. THS: Any new projects you would like to share? RJ: I am going to be doing some new projects and I’ll let you guys know about them as they come closer. I am going to be doing more performing, which is going to be interesting cause that’s not something I’ve wanted to do for a while. I really love coaching. I have merchandise for sale from my company called called “Sangahz clothing” for those of us who love extraordinary Singers. You can find it at www.Sangahzmerch. com. ReShonda Tate Billingsley

THE HEAT SEEKERS MAGAZINE

Fueled by Passion…ReShonda Tate Billingsley Interview by Angela Anderson

ReShonda Tate Billingsley is a national best-selling author of 50 plus books. She has had the gift of an active imagination for as long as she can remember. Little did she know, her riveting imagination and ability to create believable stories would be the catalyst for her one day becoming the renowned author she is today. ReShonda started her career as a news journalist. She later decided to stop talking about writing books to actually writing books. The road was not always easy. She started with more rejection letters than she could count. However, she was determined not to allow anyone or anything to validate her talent. She went the self-published route for her first novel. ReShonda took the bull by the horn and persevered with hard work, determination, and an unwavering work ethic. She was later picked up by a major publishing company, Simon and Schuster. Fast forward to fifty-plus books later, an NAACP Image Award, two books that are now films, and numerous awards and accolades, you have a well-rounded author with no signs of slowing down. For ReShonda, her love for reading has always been present, but her love for writing came after reading I Know Why the Cage Bird Sing by Maya Angelou. This book ignited her love for the written word. That fire ignited years ago is still burning and has not been extinguished yet. She continues to bring you page-turning stories that are actual conversation starters that include family dynamics, with the ability to educate and entertain. Her fiction novels allow readers an outlet to escape a world of facts to a world of fiction with a freed imagination that many enjoy. The Heat Seekers Magazine with ReShonda Tate Billingsley: Angela Anderson: When did you know that you wanted to become a writer? ReShonda Tate Billingsley: I knew early. It started back when I was a little girl, making up stories just because. My mother called me a “little liar” because I would just make up stories out of the blue. AA: What do you enjoy about writing and creating stories? RTB: I honestly have to say that writing and creating bring me tremendous joy. I would write books for free. The great thing is I don’t have to.

AA: How would you describe your writing style? Do you have a writing tagline to describe your stories? RTB: Real issues. Real people. Real stories. I really do write reality. A lot of times, people will say, ‘why didn’t she end up happy?’ Because in life, the person doesn’t always end up happy. In life, all the pieces don’t always fall into place. And those are the stories I tell. AA: What was one surprising thing you learned about yourself during your writing journey? RTB: I used to always say, “I’m not a business person. I’m a creative.” And then, I looked at my approach once the book was written. Even having a major publisher behind me, I treated my brand like a business. And it’s paid off. AA: What is a fun or interesting fact about you that most readers don’t know? RTB: I wanted to be a rapper growing up. And I must admit, I have some lyrical flows...even if no one but me appreciates them, lol.

AA: You have written over 50 books and won several prestigious awards. If you had to give one piece of advice to new authors, what would it be? RTB: Don’t let anyone but you and God determine your destiny. I was rejected a lot in the beginning. Imagine if I had internalized those rejections. I just flipped each NO into something I climbed ON to achieve my goals. AA: You have a new novel that was released during the month of February 2022, Miss Pearly’s Girls. What was the inspiration behind this story? RTB: I wanted to address what happens when we allow secrets and lies to fester. So many families do that, and I wanted to show the damage and dysfunction that allowing them to fester can do. AA: If you could describe this book in three words, what would they be? RTB: Healing with faith.

AA: May is the month we celebrate Mother’s Day in the US. Who is an influential woman in your life, and how has she helped shape and mold you into the woman you are today? RTB: My mother, who, even when she couldn’t see my dream of being a writer (because she had never seen writers of color) but worked tirelessly to give me the best life possible. AA: Share with us what you enjoy about being a mother. RTB: I love watching the wonderful young people my children have evolved into. All three of them have such nurturing spirits, and it warms my heart. AA: What is next for ReShonda Tate Billingsley? RTB: I’m super excited about my next project. It’s different for me. It’s a historical fiction novel on the life of Hattie McDaniel. Stay tuned! AA: How can we stay connected with you? RTB: My website is ReshondaTateBillingsley.com. I am also on social media. Dr. Velma Bagby Author’s Corner Spotlight Interview by Angela Anderson

Love…Relationship…Faith Dr. Velma Bagby is making her mark and legacy as an award-winning author, certified dating and relationship coach, minister, and inspirational speaker. She retired from the State government after a 38-year career as a California state Deputy Administrator. Since then, she has been busy sharing her stories and platform to change the lives of others through her work. Fast forward, post retirement, she has written books, excelled as a coach, and started her own publishing company, Adoni Publishing LLC. There is no putting Dr. Velma Bagby in a box. She is spreading her wings and gifts as she writes nonfiction and fiction novels relating to Christian living, women’s fiction about relationships, and contemporary fiction addressing dating habits. Her first book was inspired by her daughters, who wanted to help other Christian single women. After watching the downward pattern of the dating culture and a lack of training in the church, they saw a need for this information. In 2020, she published her first fiction book entitled A Place Called Down-Why Christians Suffer. She deviated from a relationship-focused topic to bring people into her testimony of tests, trials, and tribulations to offer insight into a place of suffering common to us all. She recently released her latest fiction title, The Catch No One Wants. The Heat Seekers Magazine had an opportunity to catch up with Dr. Velma Bagby. Angela Anderson: When did you start your writing journey? Dr. Velma Bagby: My writing journey began in 2018, at 64 years old. Writing had been part of my life growing up in church, writing skits for youth, as a Bible teacher writing content for classes, and in my work life, when working on training and program development projects. I retired from my job as a Deputy Administrator in State government in 2012. It was during that time that my adult daughters and I began conversations around a specific question they asked, “Mom, why are men so slow?” It took some time to dig a little deeper into the scriptures for answers. We began having regular conversations about God’s process of presenting their mates with a focus on working on themselves. As our

conversations progressed, they shared with their friends, and those friends wanted to know more. My daughters saw the need and encouraged me to put our conversations concerning men and marriage in a book. Although I began writing and capturing our discussions, I was unsure if this was my assignment. I performed a test at two speaking engagements to see if there was an audience for the topic. During one event, I saw something surprising. In the middle of talking, I watched as many of the young adults ran toward the front of the church and placed their cell phones on the first bench to record my message. At my second event, with a mix of older and young adults, I received a positive response, and they expressed how excited they were to get the book. These events confirmed my assignment to write about “date with intent to marry” principles, preparation before meeting your mate, and more. AA: What do you enjoy about being an author? VB: I love helping, giving, and sharing in my storytelling— using my imagination to present an important message. My heart settled on writing fiction once I realized Jesus was a THE HEAT SEEKERS MAGAZINE

37

master storyteller, where he took common everyday items familiar to his audience to share a topic with deeper meaning and in a way that was non-threatening or non-condemning. I enjoy hearing responses from the readers, especially when they express something profound or unique they took away after reading my stories. That says to me, job well done. AA: What do you need in your writing space to stay focused? VB: I hear a lot of authors who enjoy music play. I enjoy the peace and quiet and a hot cup of citrus mint tea. My most creative space is very early in the morning when the world is quiet outside and inside my home as well. Sitting beside me is my writing buddy, my German Shepherd, Gracie. AA: You recently released a contemporary fiction novel, The Catch No One Wants. Share with us what this book is about? VB: Yes, it is Christian Contemporary Fiction. Veronica, a PK (pastor’s kid), frantically searches for potential husbands in all the wrong places—a successful millennial who is obsessed with getting married because she has already missed her original goal… to be a wife by thirty. Her father, Greyson, watches those men mistreat his daughter; frustrated, he seeks God’s direction. Greyson’s answered prayers prompt him to use what he knows as an expert fisher. He invites Veronica on a two-day fishing trip to plan a oneon-one intervention. She does not know that her dad is on a mission to rescue her through their Christian faith and teaching about dating with the intent to marry. There is also the CATCH Homework Basket—study guide, which provides details from the actual wicker basket of books and reading material the father provides his daughter to study after their trip. AA: What inspired this story? VB: This book is for single women who are interested in discovering their husbands, God’s way. I believe the stories in this book will open the eyes of single women who have faced similar challenges in their dating lives and will give them better tools to use. Dating for marriage changes the strategies, the goal, the questions, and the approach to dating. Besides researching the scripture, during my 30+ years of counseling singles and married couples, over time, I saw a pattern. They could have avoided or minimized most of their problems had there been proper training or preparation for marriage.

38

A year before I began crafting this book, I recall when my husband was in the pulpit speaking a message. He paused THE HEAT SEEKERS MAGAZINE

and spoke to the single women. He said, “If the fish aren’t biting ladies, it’s time to change the bait.” I knew immediately upon hearing his words that God was showing me what would become the focus of my next dating-focused book. Since fish was the topic of the book, I conducted research and called the only fishing expert I knew—my brother. I asked about the fish he loved to catch, and as he provided the details about his favorites, he described their mannerisms, personalities, bait, fishing methods, etc. Immediately, I envisioned men with the same behaviors as the fish and created the five metaphorical stories based on them. AA: This is the month we celebrate Mother’s Day in the US. What does being a mother mean to you? VB: I am grateful for the memories I have with my mother, who was a picture of strength, love, and faith—and a creative person who could sew and design clothing without patterns. I am fortunate to pass on those traits to my family as well. My husband and I feel blessed to have two strong, successful women of faith. But what is even more exciting is the gift of my three precious grandchildren—which is a whole new level of preciousness—to be called Mom by the two eldest and Nanny by the youngest (grandson cannot say granny) is a gift. AA: What is next for Dr. Velma Bagby? VB: I am taking part in podcasts and literary interviews and marketing my book. I hope to participate in speaking engagements on the topic soon. Some readers have asked if there will be another CATCH book, and I am considering it. However, I have begun working on my next book project entitled, “The Women Who Tear Down The House” based on Proverbs 14:1b, which says, “(a) A wise woman builds her house, (b) while the foolish woman tears it down.” I have discussed women making wrong choices. This time we will see stories about men who did not use wisdom in their choice of a wife and how it spells trouble for them. AA: How can people stay connected with you? Lu Chay is also a musician, a professional photographer and videographer. He currently has a weekly vlog called “Do Know”. His personal quotes are “Choose Your Vibe” and “The Universe Knows Your Name”. The Heat Seekers: Tell us a little about yourself? Lu Chay: There are so many things about me that make up who I am. I love to act, perform music (keyboards,) create videos, and take photos. Most importantly, I love to hang with my family and create great memories. I consider myself a “renaissance man”. THS: What prompted you to get into the acting field? LC: I have to credit my friend, Dana S. Hubbard, who is an author, playwright, director, and producer. I have been his musical director for his stage plays for years. I had acted in a few plays before, but I never thought about pursuing it at a higher level. I was supposed to be the Musical Director (MD) for “DreamGirls” in 2019 when without warning, we lost the character that was supposed to play “Curtis Taylor Jr.” Dana called me and asked me to step it up and play the character. I still had to put the band together, but while doing so, learning the lines became easy because it was a musical. Shortly thereafter, he gave me a starring role as a character named Myles Stewart in two of his stage plays, “Every Dog Has His Day” and “Never Play With A Woman’s Heart”. By the way, We sold out all 3 of these plays. THS: When did acting become a priority for you? LC: I realized acting became a priority when I met the director of my first film, Maurice “First” Tonia. We met at the Cheddars restaurant in Newport News during the time when a lot of promotion was out for “Never Play With A Woman’s Heart”. I think he may have seen either a flyer or the digital sign for the is about learning.

Hampton Roads Convention Center with an image of me on it promoting the play. We clicked instantly and he invited my wife and me to come and be a part of one of his first films, “And You Call Yourself A Christian”. Being on set was fun and the bug bit. I wanted to do more. Shortly after filming, he offered me a starring role as a character named “Rasheed” in the upcoming film “Baby Momma”. THS: What influenced you the most? Was it a person in the field? LC: As a musician and musical director for quite a few stage plays, I was always intrigued by the art. I have worked with so many dope individuals that I don’t want to name one and forget another. It’s been a blessing to be around so many creatives. If I had to name a favorite actor that is well known in the business, I would say Denzel Washington who has done theatre as well as film and has so much wisdom relating to the art as well as real life wisdom. I also like a young man named Damson Idris (Snowfall). He is a young British actor who plays a California based drug dealer who is partially responsible for the crack epidemic in the 80s. The thing I really love about these two actors is that they make you believe they are the character that they portray. THS: What successful tips would you tell the next inspiring actor? LC: Dana S. Hubbard always reiterated that ‘acting is REACTING’.

thing from that kind of drive. I would also love to workwith Kevin Hart, another Philly native, (I’m from Philly as well). His growth and command of his platform, success in business, and also his backstory, intrigues me. He’s learned in this business and that’s what I need. Finally, I would love to work with Regina King. She’s just a boss! I love how her characters are so commanding.

This stuck with me from the first time I heard it. It makes sense when you put it all together. Also, when learning lines, learn the story. It makes it easier for the lines to stick and also helps to give the audience/viewer my best performance and to tell the story through the character. Finally, never be too big to learn. This whole process is about learning. THS: Describe a day on a set? LC: Before I get to set, I definitely want to be prepared and not stuck in a corner trying to digest lines that I should have studied. When I arrive, I like to be on time and full of energy. I’ve played some dark characters so I try to leave a good energy on set that is indicative of who I really am versus the character that I may be playing. People that have worked with me will tell you that I will be full of energy, joking and keeping the vibe positive, from call time all the way until we wrap. I try to give 100% not just to shine in my performance, but I never want to let my fellow actors down. I want them to know that I got them and I hope they got me as well. I’m also going to be an encouragement to everyone on set, whether its cast, crew, or anyone who is involved. THS: What was your most memorable acting experience? LC: I can remember it was my first day on set for Baby Momma. We were filming a scene where a woman snuck past my “men” in the club and made her way to my office with a gun. I was throwing her out of the office and had to raise my voice, fussing and cussing them out because she got too close to me. I was in full rage as the scene dictated. When the director called cut, the whole room was quiet. I looked around to see the other actors, the makeup artists, the assistants and everybody else in the room, frozen... not moving. I broke character and started laughing. Which made everyone else break out laughing. They got caught up in the scene and felt the realism in it. THS: Do you have any favorite actors that you would like to work with? LC: Even though this guy is in the hot seat, I still would love to work with Will Smith. I appreciate his growth in the industry, his willingness to take on a new challenge. I could learn some

THS: Any upcoming projects that you would like to share? LC: This summer, I am looking forward to the premiere of “Baby Momma”, by author Ni’Chelle Genovese, a Drew Sidora Film, presented by Eudora Entertainment. I Play Rasheed, a drug dealer/club Owner who has to deal with Baby Mommas. I also am looking forward to the release of “The Candy Shop” by Author Kiki Swinson. I play Eric, the husband of a troubled wife. Lastly, I play an abusive husband in a movie called “One Last Chance” by Kendria Roane-WIlliams. All of these will be released this year! THS: I noticed you have worked with great authors such as Carl Weber, What was that like? LC: I have to give credit to my guy, producer and writer, Maurice “First” Tonia. He is the connection for me to people like Carl Weber and many other important people. Whether it’s distribution, books, scripts, directors, actors; I feel like this is one of the dopest seasons of my life. I am blessed by it all and I am grateful for these connections. First and I talk quite often and he’s been more than a producer to me. He’s become a friend and a mentor, guiding me through this path that I am on. THS: What do you find most difficult about the industry? LC: I’ve learned quickly that PEOPLE make things difficult and sometimes, they do so unnecessarily. It could be someone constantly changing the schedule, or being late, or not knowing their lines. Even worse, not getting along with someone on set. Most of the time, it’s someone who isn’t a lead or a principal. I’ve seen this in theatre and sometimes on film. This is why I have to make sure that I am on point. I don’t want to be in a negative environment nor do I want to be the cause of one. I am intentional about bringing and keeping a vibe around me, no matter what I am doing. I am a leader, so I refuse to fall into the traps. As a matter of fact, I am going to pull people up a little higher by simply being who I am called to be. Lu Chay has good energy. Poet’s Row “Mental Health” by ADQ Robin Williams, Anthony Bourdain, and Naomi Judd committed suicide I wonder were they able to express their feelings that were roofed inside? To whom rely when the demons come with disaster waiting and you struggle with your affirmations you know your passion’s placement and you try to ride through let the Lord guide you. But if you’re real about your struggles the world would judge you even those who say they love you. Ye said that he struggles with ideation. We fighting Satan cause we know he’s politely waiting. Telling us no one love us. We dismissed y’all. I got pissed off this morning and punched a brick wall. All the happy folk nothing against y’all but find your broken friends and get more involved. This was a special day! It’s time spent with my mother for her birthday. We traveled to Belton SC to drop of some Girls Gifted 4 God Outreach donations. While in the area, we stopped downtown historic Anderson SC on a mission for a nice place to eat. While walking on Main Street we pass by Raines on Main Bar & Grill and this guy walks outside and tells us to try because their prices were great. So we sat outside because the weather was so nice. The same gentleman that greeted us also served us our drinks. I asked what was the specialty and he said the orange green tea. Normally green tea comes in a shot but he made it as a drink with orange Jamison. It was very refreshing and light for this spring weather we were enjoying outside. My choice of food was the grilled salmon butter green beans and butter & sour cream baked potato. The salmon was recommended as the best seller. It was okay. I was surprised that it was alittle dry and I wasn’t asked how I wanted it cooked so I didn’t think to mention. But it did have a nice flavor. The green beans were surprisingly great and so was the baked potato. I enjoyed it so much I ate the skin too! My mother had the chicken salad & homemade.pimento cheese with a side house salad. I took a side taste of the food and it was very tasty and such large portions too. I definitely will be returning and recommend others to try too. Next time I will announce to get my salmon cooked medium. Overall, I truly enjoyed. Our server Hannah was very informative with the food menu. Remember the man who greeted us? His name is Tracy. He took us on a tour of downstairs where you can reserve a meeting room for $50 deposit with large groups. He was very nice as well as our server. So if you’re ever on main street in Anderson SC be sure to try this spot. Their prices are so inexpensive. #tastefultipsandtrips #focusforwardwithrobin #andersonsc #rainesonmain #foodblogger #bloggerlifestyle Tasteful Tips & Trips with Robin” is not just an ordinary food blog!
