Yanmar Power Technology Secures Japan’s First Approval in Principle for Maritime Hydrogen Fuel Cell System

saka, Japan (January 19, 2024) – Yanmar Power Technology Co., Ltd. (Yanmar PT), a subsidiary of Yanmar Holdings, has achieved a significant milestone as the first company in Japan* to receive the Approval in Principle (AiP) for its “Maritime Hydrogen Fuel Cell System” from Nippon Kaiji Kyokai (ClassNK), a prominent Japanese maritime association. The primary objective of this system is to advance the use of zero-emission ships in the maritime sector, effectively eliminating emissions such as CO2, NOX, SOX, PM, and others. The design emphasizes ease of installation, with a configuration that seamlessly integrates key auxiliary components like gas valve units into the system housing. Additionally, the system’s capability for parallel connection of multiple units and flexibility in adjusting the number of installed modules in its housing allow it to cater to diverse ship output requirements.

Open Faced Florida Shrimp Sandwich with Avocado Ingredients: 1 pound medium-sized Florida shrimp, peeled 1 large Florida avocado, peeled and seed removed 1 small red onion, sliced thin 1/2 cup rice vinegar Seafood seasoning 4 slices whole-wheat bread Olive oil for cooking 1 lemon, juiced 1 tablespoon fresh thyme, stripped off the stem and chopped fine 6 cloves garlic, peeled and chopped fine Sea salt and fresh ground pepper to taste Directions: In a small bowl, combine the thin-sliced red onion and vinegar. Let the red onion mixture marinate for at least 10 minutes. Bring a large pot of water to a rapid boil. Season the water with 2 tablespoons of your favorite seafood boil seasoning. Make a bath of ice water in a medium-sized mixing bowl. Place peeled shrimp into the seasoned boiling water. Cook shrimp for 2 minutes, or until cooked throughout. Remove shrimp from the hot water and place them in the ice water bath, allowing shrimp to cool. Place the sliced bread on a cookie sheet and lightly drizzle with olive oil and a dash of seafood seasoning. Toast the seasoned bread slices in the oven on broil, being careful not to let them burn. Drain or remove the shrimp from the ice bath and return them to the bowl. Add 1 teaspoon olive oil, 1 teaspoon seafood seasoning, 1/2 lemon juiced, fresh thyme, and half the garlic. Stir the shrimp mixture to coat. Taste the shrimp and adjust seasoning with salt and pepper. In a small mixing bowl, combine the avocado, 1/2 lemon juiced, the rest of the garlic and a pinch of seafood seasoning. Mash the avocado mixture, leaving it somewhat chunky if desired. Taste avocado mixture and adjust seasoning with salt and pepper. To assemble, spread even amounts of the avocado mixture on top of each of the toasted bread slices. Next, pile an even amount of the shrimp on top of the avocado mixture. Drain the excess vinegar from the sliced onions and use them to garnish the top of each open-faced sandwich.

With the Comfort Bundle, the bow can be enhanced with a table and a filler cushion that converts the spot into a sunpad. The bow can also be upgraded with a manual bow sunshade and a windlass is available with the Anchor Bundle. At the transom, the convertible sunpad presents a spot to leisurely bask in the sun. The sunpad backrest folds down to extend the area, and the adjacent optional Fusion® remote places stereo controls close by. Providing easy reboarding after swimming, the broad swim platform offers a concealable ladder and manual submersible step, optional on the sterndrive variation and standard on the surf boat. The transom also features a ski tow eye attachment to connect watersports riders and an in-floor compartment with drainage for stowing wet gear and lines. The SDX 270 models include a standard starboard compartment that can be used to store life jackets, towels and other bulky items. Other highlights include Active Trim control and monitoring and an optional inductive charging station. The windshield is curved for improved visibility, and the oversized helm seat has a movable backrest that converts it from a forward-facing to aftfacing seat. For additional seating flexibility, the port companion seat also converts from forward-facing to aft-facing. The port dash houses the Fusion RA210 stereo head unit for audio entertainment, and an area under the port dash can be used to stow a carry-on cooler. Enticing thrill seekers, the SDX 270 Surf is outfitted with an intuitive surf system that generates repeatable, rideable waves for wakesurfing and other watersports. The vessel’s transom is tapered to produce a clean wave while electric surf tabs, Active Trim and three ballast tanks featuring 1,900 lbs. of ballast control the height of the wave and produce a long or short pocket. Captain’sCorner with Captain Sergio Atanes Finding Old Fishing Spots Again Sometimes we get carried away trying to find new fishing spots and we forget the old ones that got us started. February usually is cold and still plenty of negative tides which are great for finding new spots and to reunite us with some old ones whether you are a shore fisherman or using a watercraft there are plenty of places to fish that are often overlooked. Take a few minutes and make some notes of old areas you used to fish and give them a try, the biggest problem I see, and I have lived in the Tampa area all my life is increase in population and number of boats in Tampa Bay market over 103,000 registered boats as of last count. So, let’s get down to nitty gritty where to start fishing in upper Tampa Bay. You have Rocky Creek great fishing in the winter, Double Branch loaded with trout and small black drum in the potholes. Howard Frankland area look at Big Island channel northwest side of bridge plenty of trout, sheepshead, and redfish action especially around the sunken barge. Yes, there is an old barge sunken along the shoreline in front of Big Island. The charts show 1 foot or less but the cut between the island and interstate is over 10 feet deep. Gandy Bridge area the rock piles in front of
marine reserve northeast side as you enter the bridge hold a little of everything on high tides, the channel leading into the power plant should have plenty of silver (white) trout. St. Pete airport rocks always hold nice sheepshead, redfish and flounder using live shrimp with a 1/0 circle #4 split shot about 3 inches from the eye of the hook. Downtown Tampa the Hillsborough River with its warm water to please you with snook, reds, trout, and sheepshead. Fish the rocky shoreline and the pillars of the bridges. Apollo Beach Power Plant another hot spot or pompano, cobia, and trout early in the morning till about 10 am the colder the weather the better the bite. Sharks tend to hang out just outside of the mouth of the outlet part of the channel. There is a small rock jetty along side of the power plant with incoming tide, a great spot for redfish.
A pair of neoprene waders can insulate you from the cold and allow you to walk out on a flat that’s drained of water by north winds to access potholes and channel edges that can hold fish. Among the species you might find are trout, redfish, flounder, ladyfish, and a few others that can give you some rod-bending exercise. Dragging a bait bucket along with live shrimp can be a hassle, but artificial lures will work just as well in most instances. There are several lures that I find most productive for most fish that I may encounter. Each of them will cover portions of the water column that will hold fish.

West Central Florida Southwest Coast bait or medium live shrimp works best. The lighter the tackle the more bites you will get. Fort Desoto area look for the old bomb holes from the early days when the area was used as a practice bombing range some of them have filled in over the years,but many are left some as 15 feet deep, the colder the weather the better the bite as the trout especially tend to migrate there. Mullet Key shoreline is excellent for wade fishermen or Kayakers you have a nice drop off that tend to hold fish all year long. Live shrimp is my go-to bait this time of year. Medium size is perfect. Here is my set up 7.6 medium action rod, 3 feet of 15-pound fluorocarbon leader, 15-pound breaded line and 3000 size spinning reels.
Little Manatee River has never let me down in February with just about every species that can be found, fish the areas of drop- offs and cuts with deeper water and best fished with a falling tide.
My tackle suggestions: Rods: OKUMA SRT Inshore Elite Medium 7.6 feet. Reel: OKUMA ITXCB 3000. Line: FINS Windtammer 15-pound braid. Leader: OHERO 15- and 20-pound Fluorocarbon. Hooks: OHERO Trident 1/0 circle. Engel 19-quart live bait cooler.

But it doesn’t mean that fish don’t chew while you’re sitting at home waiting for the weather to clear. Safety is always a concern, and while it may not be safe to head out in a small skiff, piers, jetties, seawalls, or other areas that offer access to water on foot are safe possibilities.

Fishing very slowly will be the key to enticing fish to eat with water temperatures in the low 60’s or cooler. My top choices have to be lures that can remain in the strike zone where fish will eat it and look natural in the process. Few lures will do this better than an artificial shrimp, and my top choice is a quarter-ounce glow DOA Shrimp. All fish that we target on hook and line eat shrimp. Tossing one of these into potholes or channels around the edges and slowly crawling it across the bottom makes for a deadly presentation for everything. An occasional twitch of the rod can sometimes trigger a strike from a fish following the lure. I know there are times when you come across a deep hole ranging from 3 to 10 feet deep that will be loaded with trout. At times I find these holes inside residential canals that have been dredged out. If I want to maximize my catch for trout, few lure combinations produce more fish more quickly than a tandem jig rig. West Central Florida produced great catches. When the company dissolved, I looked for replacements and didn’t have to go far to find that DOA Lures makes a rig called the Deadly Tandem. A pair of lightweight jig heads, each holding a soft plastic curly tail body will fall slowly with the tails undulating with the slightest movement, enticing the bite. Slow-sinking or suspending lures provide an in-your-face presentation to fish that are on or just above the bottom. Redfish will sun themselves on a dark bottom making both the 14M MirrOdine Mini and the 18MR Heavy Dine from MirrOlure my goto redfish lures. Tarpon fanatics the bite has been on and off the past week. Anglers are having fun, jumping fish, but sometimes landing boat side can be tough. Anglers looking for explosive action Rapala skitter walks provide that. Bluefish, mackerel, jacks, and lady fish have been very active in back bays and along channel edges. These fish will keep anglers busy all day. Winter break brings families and kids looking to experience fishing. The past week, we have been doing a lot of bottom fishing, catching a plethora of species, multiple species of snapper, drum, grunts, puffer fish, pork fish, the list species exceeds double digits. This is a great way to introduce anglers into the sport. Boating over 100 fish in just a few hours. Anglers are very excited, wondering what they’re going to catch next. Well that is the fishing report for the past week hope you all
enjoyed. Remember you can’t catch them from the couch, so get out there and get hooked up. The new year continued to bring windy and rainy conditions to South Florida. We have been saturated and wind burned. Luckily inshore fishing we can hide and fish unique places. The bite is on and anglers are still having fun. Deep holes and channels have provided plenty of fish for anglers to target. Whether you like top water strikes or jigging, feeling the thump, both techniques provide rod bending action. Rapala skitter walks have provoked big blues, jacks and mackerel to strike surface lures. We have had blues reaching 20 pounds as of late, those are huge fish for our local area in the Palm Beaches and Jupiter. Hopefully the trend continues. Snook fanatics back bays, canals and mangrove shorelines have been the areas to target them. Snook can be sight fished as they bask in the sun, due to the cooler water temps. Rapala shadow rap and X wraps have been go to bait, triggering linesiders to strike. The snook have been ranging from 15 to 24 inches, many of the snook catches have been common and fat snook. Wet winter to say the least! Every three to four days, South Florida has received rain and

When you think of winter you think of cold and snow up north, but in South Florida it’s not that way. Most of the cold fronts this year affect us with a little cold and plenty of wind. It’s been a really consistent pattern with a day or 2 of decent weather and then another front and more wind. It’s not always unfishable in the backcountry of Everglades National Park, you just have to go. It’s a great time to learn new spots! It’s possible you fish an area that’s usually protected, doesn’t work unless its blowing. Wind moves fish and baits around. This is something you learn by fishing in terrible conditions. This past week I fished Flamingo on Sunday 1-14-24. It was blowing 15-25 out of the S.W. and usually a wind people stay home on. Some people don’t care, it just about getting away. This day I fished with my friend Mike, and it started out slow. We were fishing NLBN against Gulp. They both catch fish although the Gulps need to be replaced after every fish while NLBN lasted thru allot of fish. I don’t ever remember getting so many hits as or before NLBN hit the water. We worked around and fished all the islands that had protection in Fl Bay. Lots of big Jacks up on edge of flats, they were swimming on the backs of Sting Rays. They are fun when they blow up the lure, as it comes over the back of the Ray. We caught a bunch waiting for a Redfish to show up. They never showed up on that spot. We moved around a decided to fish into the wind. We fished the edge of a channel that was loaded with mullet.
We cast at the potholes as mullet swam through and found Snook and Redfish sitting in them. The wind really picked up, so we called it a day. Recently fished the backcountry, starting in Whitewater Bay with Dennis, Bill and Greg. It was cool and water Temps were 70.52. A small front went thru last night and chased away whatever Tarpon were around the last few days. We stopped in Whitewater anyway and took a look for Tarpon. I had them casting some NLBN Twisted Tea colored Paddle Tails. The Trout were there, they caught about 20 or so and more Ladyfish than that. It was a great warm up! We ran back looking for Redfish a friend had found a couple days earlier, we only caught 1. We made a move and ended up fishing creeks on the coast. We had a good bite of Trout along the shoreline. The tide was starting to come in and the Redfish bite was on. They caught Redfish and Trout on every cast for a couple hours. The Reds were 16 to 26 inches, and the Trout were 12 to 20”. It was getting late, and we had 1 stop on the way in. We saved a few Jacks and Ladyfish so we could hook some Goliath Groupers. Dennis had already caught a small Goliath on an Artificial already, so it was Bill and Greg’s turn. I hooked up a bait and to Greg where to cast it, tossing a 1-pound bait isn’t easy. It took a couple cast and then the hit, he couldn’t believe

Southeast Coast swirling winds. Good news, fish don’t mind rain as they are already wet. Over cast conditions at times make for great snook fishing in the backcountry along mangrove shorelines and channel edges. Glass minnow pods are being ambushed by linesiders, Rapala x raps and DOA 3” shad tail great baits to match the hatch. Both sides of tides are great for targeting snook. Dock fishing offers good bite on out going tide and first of incoming tide. Big blues fish continue to ravage lures anglers present. Surface baits like the Rapala skitter walk offer explosive strikes for anglers fishing holes and channels. This fish are schooled up, ranging in size from 2 to 15 pounds. Bottom fishing with jigs and shrimp, contribute to non stop action for anglers. Snapper, drum, jacks, sheepshead, croaker and ladyfish are just some of the species anglers are catching. With a plethora of species in the Palm Beaches waters, you never know what is going to bite on the other end of line. Great fun for families and experienced anglers looking for constant action.

Florida Keys it. The Goliath ate turned and ran into mangroves and cut us off. rerigged and another bait was a similar result. We are down to our last Jack. It’s a bout 1 1/2 lb.’s. He cast and before it hit the Goliath ate it. Greg fought it for 5 minutes and landed a 40lb. Goliath. Its Bill’s turn now and we had 1 Ladyfish left. He made a good cast, it was instantaneous. He came out of mangroves pretty quick and boatside for some photos. Great day with great guys but we were 20 miles from the dock, and it was time to go. I fished with neighborhood friends A.C and Ian in Key Largo today. We Caught allot of Yellowtails and then went offshore with the Cigar Minnows we netted. We had a few Kingfish eat our Baits and then my buddy A.C got this nice Grouper which was released. Our weather will get really nice here in the next couple weeks, when it does Tarpon time! The coolest Tarpon fishery there is, and they are big! I really live for the 4 weeks or so that they are here, it fun. There will also be Snook and Redfish. Fishing at Flamingo the next few months is plenty of fun, lots of rod bending! I also do charters out of Key Largo and Biscayne Bay for an assortment of species.

A VESSEL SAFETY CHECK - STUART - Despite numerous COVID-19 restrictions, more and more boaters are taking to the water to alleviate at-home boredom while taking advantage of the open-air benefits and more pandemic-free aspects of recreational boating. But if you haven’t been out boating in a while, are your vessel’s lights operating properly? Do you have a sufficient number of life jackets for the number of passengers aboard?
