Ingredients 1 whole Florida flounder, cleaned with head removed 2 cups fresh Florida arugula 1 teaspoon butter 1 teaspoon seafood seasoning blend 1 lemon, juiced 2 tablespoons parmesan cheese, grated 1 teaspoon olive oil Sea salt and fresh ground pepper to taste
Directions: Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Preheat a medium sized oven safe sauté pan over medium high heat. On a clean cutting board, make several slices into the thickest part of the fish all the way to the bone. Use most of the seasoning blend to season the outside of the fish making sure to get the spice mixture into the fresh cuts. Add the butter to the preheated sauté pan, and carefully place the fish top side down. Cook the fish for two to 3 minutes until a light crispy crust is formed. Carefully flip the fish over and put the whole pan into the preheated oven. Let the fish cook for another 8 to 12 minutes or until it is just cooked throughout. Remove the pan from the oven and let it rest. In a medium sized bowl, add arugula, half the lemon juice, olive oil and parmesan cheese. Stir ingredients to coat and adjust seasoning with salt and pepper. Carefully transfer the cooked flounder to a large plate. Add the completed arugula salad to the plate with the fish on it. Squeeze the remaining lemon juice over the fish and sprinkle any remaining seasoning blend over the entire dish.

DinghyGo Orca 375 Flagged as the Perfect Sized All-Round Portable Sailboat

oating enthusiasts are favoring the lengthier three-in-one DinghyGo inflatable sailboats with a large sail such as the DinghyGo Orca 375 . After the cancellation of Boot 2021 Düsseldorf, Dutch producer Aquacrafts of the leading portable sailboat brand DinghyGo confirmed that the trend of its users favoring the taller versions of their inflatable sailboats, such as the DinghyGo Orca 375, held steadfast throughout 2020. efore buying an inflatable or RIB, consumers must answer some simple questions about their needs and lifestyle. Answering these questions will help to determine “which inflatable is right for you?” Those boaters who are new to the inflatable boat market will be amazed at the wide variety of choices available to them. What Kind of Boater Are You? Will you be using your inflatable for sporting activities or primarily as a runabout? Will you spend more time in small, sheltered bodies of water or out on the open seas? Planning ahead now for how and under what conditions you will be using your inflatable could lead to a decision to buy a RIB versus a fabric hull model. What Are Your Storage and Launching Needs? How do you plan on storing and launching your boat? What is most convenient for you? Inflatable boats clearly have an advantage in providing owners many options for how and where they can choose to store their boats. Some fabric hull inflatable models are very light and easy to transport by car or to hoist on board a yacht. These inflatables are also easily stored in a small space. RIBs also offer an easier solution to storage than most hardsided boats, and some RIBS are designed specifically for compact storage spaces. What Are Your Performance Needs? Do you plan on using your inflatable as a central focus for sporting fun or an occasional supplement to your yachting experience? First, consider your particular needs for the boat in terms of passenger capacity. Many inflatable models can carry between four and eight passengers. For those boating enthusiasts who need a larger capacity, RIBs are typically a better choice. Some can hold as many as 15 people. Remember too that the size and weight of the inflatable will affect its performance. Larger inflatables typically perform better, with improved stability and comfort, and faster planing.
More American recreational boaters are coming to appreciate what the U.S. Coast Guard, military organizations and many European boaters learned years ago about the unique advantages of inflatable and rigid-inflatable boats (RIBs) over their hard-sided counterparts. Whether used for leisure or sport, the innovative designs of inflatables make them easy to transport, easy to launch, fuel efficient, comfortable, safe and easy to maintain. Choosing Your Floor and Hull Keep in mind that the type of flooring you choose will have a direct bearing on the time it takes to assemble the watercraft. There are two basic floor types for fabric hull inflatables from which you may choose. For occasional or seasonal usage, a traditional removable rigid floor is best. However, you may find it less time consuming to pick a floor that can be left in place for easier assembly. With some models, the owner can choose slats or a high-tech air floor that becomes very rigid when inflated. If you’re in the market for a RIB, look for a deep V-shaped fiberglass hull. Choosing an Outboard When deciding what outboard is right for your inflatable, you need to ask yourself what your actual power needs will be. Will you use your inflatable for sportier activities? If so, you will need an outboard with at least 30 hp behind it. However, if you think more leisurely activities are likely, then less power may be all right. Are You Ready To Go Inflatable? Inflatable boats have been around for a long time, but in recent years, manufacturers have made tremendous strides in developing user-friendly, comfortable, stylish models with all the amenities recreational boaters enjoy. Just go to your local dealer, or the next boat show, and see for yourself if the inflatable advantage is right for you.
Here is a quick primer for recreational boaters who may be new to the inflatable boat market. There are two basic types of inflatable boats: inflatables and RIBs. Inflatables, also referred to as soft-bottom inflatables, always utilize inflatable hulls. Flooring options include the traditional soft-bottom units with floorboards, high-pressure air floors, and roll-up models. Rigid-inflatable boats (RIBs), also known as hard-bottom inflatables, always utilize rigid hulls, such as fiberglass or aluminum. Inflatable tubes, or “collars,” are fitted to the top of the rigid hulls to create rigid inflatable boats. RIBs are generally considered hybrid vessels that combine the benefits of traditional powerboats and inflatables. Growing In Popularity Today’s inflatables are more popular than ever. In fact, for the first time, two brands of inflatable boats were ranked in the “Top 20” report of the most popular consumer searches on BOATS.COM, a leading marine Web site for boat buyers and sellers. The report was released in February 2003. This is a positive sign that more consumers are recognizing the advantages of inflatables, both as primary boats and tenders. The Top Seven “Inflatable Advantages” What makes inflatables a good choice for recreational boaters? Inflatables and RIBs are user-friendly, they are designed for safety, speed, comfort and durability - and they look stylish. Here are the top seven “inflatable advantages”: Safety: The large, shock-absorbing inflatable collars of inflatables and RIBs create a highly stable boat that is nearly
impossible to capsize under normal conditions. With several independent air compartments in each buoyancy tube, the boat is stable and unsinkable, even with one of the air chambers deflated. Buoyancy: Because of the large buoyancy tubes, the load capacity of an inflatable is far greater than that of a traditional rigid boat of similar size. Mobility: Once deflated and folded, the space taken up by an inflatable is so compact that transporting and storing it is extremely easy. Even RIBs are easier to transport and launch than comparable traditional boats because of their much lighter weight. Cars that could never tow a traditional boat can easily tow a RIB. Fuel Efficiency/Power Ratio: Because of their light weight, inflatables and RIBs achieve excellent performance with smaller engines than would be required on traditional boats of similar size. That means greater fuel efficiency and lower purchase cost for engines, at a time when fuel prices are soaring. Smoother, Drier Ride: The buoyancy tubes on these boats do a remarkable job of absorbing impact when cruising at high speeds, and they also deflect spray for a drier ride than most traditional boats. Simple Maintenance: Upkeep on an inflatable is simple and cheap -- soapy water keeps it clean, while proper inflation is a breeze with either a foot pump or available auto inflation pump on some models. The buoyancy tubes also mean no worries about dings and scratches during docking and other maneuvers. And Another Thing - They Look Cool: The crisp, modern designs and sharp colors and graphics of today’s inflatables stand out against a crowd of traditional boats. That alone draws many buyers who simply want a different, sharp-looking boat without a custom-boat price.

Solar Boat Completes Emission-Free Voyage To Alaska

uneau, AK USA (4 August 2021) – An electric boat that runs virtually endlessly on solar power - that’s the dream that’s been driving David and Alex Borton for the last 17 years. Since 2004, the father-and-son team has been working to fulfil their vision, building several custom, patented, solar-electric boats under the brand name of Solar Sal. This summer, the two of them completed what they believe to be the first-ever solar-electric boat voyage from Bellingham, Washington, to Juneau, Alaska. They departed on Tuesday, 25 May, in their 27-ft wooden hull solar boat Wayward Sun and made landfall at Ketchikan, Alaska, 13 June, then continued up the coast at a more leisurely pace to Glacier Bay and Juneau, concluding the voyage on 8 July. The electric boat is powered 100 per cent by solar energy with no fossil-fuel combustion engine at all on board. “People always ask us if we have any gas or diesel back up,” said Alex Borton, “but the sun rises every day. If our batteries get too low, we just wait.” Wayward Sun, built by Devlin Boat in Olympia,
WA, is propelled by a Torqeedo Cruise 4.0 electric pod drive with six Torqeedo Power 24-3500 lithium batteries. There is a separate 12-volt system for lights, electronics and other DC-powered systems and an inverter for occasional AC loads, like making waffles. The batteries are charged from a 1700-Watt array of solar cells on the boat’s rooftop. “The solar-electric system has more than exceeded our expectations,” said Alex Borton. “During the 45-day passage from Bellingham to Glacier Bay to Juneau, we were underway for 38 days. We averaged 32 nautical miles per day at an average speed of 3.7 knots. While some days we stopped early or left late because of weather, there were only two full days we didn’t travel at all due to high winds or dense fog. “Even on a completely overcast day this time of year, we can travel at 2-3 knots during daylight hours without drawing on our batteries at all,” Borton said. “With direct sunlight, we can do 5 knots or more all day without any battery use. Most of the trip was overcast and it rained a lot.
Some days we travelled slowly because we had to; other days we travelled slowly and charged the batteries while underway.” “Most electric boats on the market today are limited by their battery capacity, which means they have to return to shore power to charge,” explained Borton. “Until recently, solar panels and batteries were just not capable of severing the tie to shore power, so it was only functional for extending range or for partial charging. But now, thanks to advances in solar cells and Torqeedo’s efficient
electric drives and high-capacity batteries, it’s possible to produce a solar boat with reasonable speeds and accommodation that can continuously cruise without ever charging from the shore. If I had more time I would keep going for another 1000 miles.” They navigated from Bellingham to Ketchikan using the inside passage, anchoring at night since they were not permitted to go ashore in British Columbia due to Canadian Covid-19 travel restrictions. “That was no problem for us,” said Borton. “We had lots of food, a cosy cuddy for sleeping below deck. Captain’sCorner with Captain Dylan Hubbard Nearshore Fishing Report Hogfish action picked up for us this past week with a great near shore bite happening around 40-60ft of water but we have seen them up to around 90ft of water. The bite isn’t crazy like we see in cooler months, but a large improvement compared to what we typically see this time of year and what we have been seeing. They love those live shrimp on lighter tackle, but with the size of shrimp being overall smaller around local bait shops we have been using doubles when needed to get more smell going and entice more hogfish to bite. Red grouper action has really heated up over the recent weeks in that deeper near shore water around 60-100ft of water. We are seeing them bite best on those bigger pieces of dead bait like bonita strips, squid strips or octopus tentacles. Look for them on those potholes, small ledges or areas of flat hard bottom. Around 40-60lb test and about a 5-6ot hook is plenty near shore for the red grouper. Offshore, we are seeing plentiful red grouper as well
Tarpon addicts will still be able to get their fix this month. You should still find a few tarpon in the coastal gulf early in the month. Drifting live baits or casting flies, DOA Baitbusters, DOA Shrimp and DOA 4” CAL shad tails should all work. As tarpon thin out along beaches, they will move to inside waters where you may find them schooling around bridges or rolling on deep grass flats. They will also feed in schools of ladyfish that are feeding on the surface. You should also find juvenile tarpon from 10 to 30-pounds in creeks, canals and turning basins. Your snook tackle will work fine for smaller tarpon although you’ll need a leader of 40 to 50-pounds to keep them from going through it. Fly anglers should score with 8 or 9-weight fly rods, floating or sink tip lines and scaled down

with the same style approach as the near shore red grouper but they are best on even larger dead baits with around 7-8ot hooks and 60-80lb test in around 140-200ft of water.
have seen in a very long time even through all of the amberjack season we had in May. Hoping this trend will continue for us this weekend on the backside of this low pressure.
Gag grouper have slowed a bit recently, but with red snapper season wrapping up on us we will be focusing out deep to target these big gag grouper, fat red grouper, scamp grouper and triggerfish with hopefully some amberjack sprinkled in. The largest challenge to the gag fishing right now is getting the big live baits offshore and keeping them alive to use for the gag grouper bait. However, we have had luck with dead threadfins, bonita, octopus and even whole squid. Use heavier tackle when targeting gags or seeing them come up with 80lb leader minimum.
New moon is upon us through the weekend and into the start of next week that means bigger currents and tides offshore to battle when fishing deep for bottom fish. However, the new moon also typically improves the bite during the day when the fish are not as active at night when there’s little to no light available. Typically the pelagic action is best around the new moon and full moon as water is moving around more. We did see a great wahoo caught this past week and the kingfish have been active too with the occasional blackfin tuna.
Amberjack season has re opened for the next three months until the end of October. They are tricky to find in large concentrations of bigger keeper size, however, we are getting lucky from time to time. Plus, this past weekend we had some of the best amberjack action we

tarpon flies. Snook and reds remain closed to harvest south of State Rd 64 in Manatee County on the west coast of Florida, south to the south bank of Gordon Pass in Collier County. Reds and snook are catch and release only in that zone until May 31, 2022. Spotted Seatrout has reopened in that zone with a 3 fish per person, bag limit and a 6 fish boat limit. Trout must be from 15”-19” with one allowed per vessel over 19”. Snook, trout and reds are closed to harvest through September 16 in all Manatee County waters north of State Rd 64. Full regulations and details can be viewed at https://myfwc.com/ . You’ll find snook around lighted docks and bridges in the ICW and in the surf. Small white flies, like my Grassett Snook Minnow, DOA Shrimp or CAL jigs with shad tails and jerk worms should all work well. The same lures and flies will work at night and in the surf, although you should be observant of what size baits are in those areas. Reds should school up this month, although their numbers have been thinner for the past couple of years. You should find them on shallow flats where they’ll be easier to find when the tide is low. Look for “nervous” water when it is slick calm or a slick patch of water

Southwest Florida when there is a ripple on the water. They may push a wake that looks like a boat wake. I try to be as quiet as possible in shallow water, poling to locate them. Once you’ve located a school of reds, try to get ahead of them to intercept them, much like tarpon fishing. If you work around the edges of the school, you may be able to catch a few of them before they spook. We often also find big jacks, blues and other predators in the mix along with reds. Top water plugs and fly poppers or Gurglers may draw some big bites. The DOA PT-7 top water bait and 4” CAL shad tail should both work well on schooling reds. RaulOrtizSBDOADeadlyCombotrout Trout fishing should be good this month. You may find a big trout in skinny water at first light. Focus on mullet or bait schools to find them. Top water plugs, fly poppers or Gurglers should be very effective at that time of day. Handle big trout over 19” gently, since they are usually females that may be full of roe. The Labrador current (cold water upwelling) as it is known by many anglers arrives during the summer and can cool down bottom temperatures and the bottom fishing in some areas along Florida’s east coast. This phenomena can drop bottom water temperatures into the mid-sixties, so finding warmer water is the key to locating fish. Studies have shown the phenomena is the effect of a prevailing south wind combined with the Coriolis effect pushing the warm surface water offshore and the cold bottom water moving up to replace displaced water, but either way it equates to some tough fishing at times. Look for the blue water bite to improve along the inshore reefs and wrecks of Chris Benson, 8A Reef, and Pelican Flats, with kingfish, dolphin, black fin tuna, and cobia serving as the primary species, along with an occasional wahoo or sailfish. This is also the time of year when cooler waters sometimes
push the giant manta rays in close to the shoals off the Canaveral Bight, bringing cobia with them. Further offshore, the Gulf Stream typically moves in closer making tuna a possibility for smaller boats, and if the summer squalls stay away, running to the other side of the stream isn’t out of the question. Along the beach, look for the silver kings (tarpon), smoker kings, blacktip sharks, jumbo jack crevalle, and redfish to be shadowing pods of Atlantic menhaden (pogies), threadfin herring (greenies), Spanish sardines, and bay anchovy (glass minnows) in close to the beach. Also look for snook fishing in the surf to improve, as we get closer to the commencement of the fall bait run. Remember snook are out of season until September 1st, so if you target them, please handle and release them with care. In and around the inlets, look for Spanish mackerel, tarpon, jack cervalle, and bonita to be working schools of glass minnows on the outside, and snook, redfish, mangrove snapper, and flounder around jetties and other structure.
with Captain Eric Evans Mahi Coming Over the Rail It has been a very busy year and all indicates it’s going to stay busy. Usually august and September are our slow months here in Key West. This year already we have 3/4 of august filled and some dates in September. So please if you are planning a trip try to book your fishing and excursions as early as possible. On to the more exciting updates. The offshore fishing was good. We saw many mahi coming over the rails. Not many monsters but a couple for sure. It seemed that most of not all trips ended up securing a dinner or two and having plenty of action. Last year august and September was actually better for mahi then in May and June so we may see that again. The Fishy Business team fished 4 tournaments this year securing some nice trophies including biggest wahoo and 2nd overall ladies division in the Key West Marlin Tournament. We have

Central Florida Angling on the in-shore lagoons will continue to show improvement, with fishing in the predawn and late evening hours being most productive. Look for redfish in the skinny water up close to the shoreline holding in the vicinity of bait concentration, and target them utilizing smaller top-water plugs. Once the sun starts to grow hot, the top-water bite slows down, and bait becomes your better option. For larger trout, fish live pigfish in close to docks and other structure adjacent to deeper water. In deeper water, look for large schools of ladyfish, small trout, and tarpon pushing schools of glass minnows near the surface. Finally, look for pompano schools holding in the shadows of the causeway bridges. Fish jigs tipped with shrimp or sand fleas (mole crabs) along the deeper edges and drop-offs. had shots at some bigger marlin this year and had one on during the tournament. As fishing goes we couldn’t get the leader touched before it spit the hook! Hopefully next year! The reef has been producing the usual yellowtail snapper and groupers. I try to recommend these trips to families that want more action or have younger anglers tagging along. While fishing the reefs or wrecks we have a vast amount of species that can be hooked. Snappers, groupers, mackerels, sharks, barracudas, amberjacks, and cobia. The Clearwater Coast Guard Auxiliary is offering outstanding “Boat America” course via two options: August 28 and 29 - Virtual Boat America 9am to 2pm. Classes are $40 per student and include the books, supplemental materials and course completion certificates. The classes being offered by the Clearwater Coast Guard Auxiliary are conducted on Zoom with the same instructors the student would have had in the classroom and allowing lots of questions and answers. In addition, because the classes are on the Internet, there’s no commuting to a classroom – the students can be anywhere in Florida! The boating safety class is also a requirement for many boaters in Florida. In the Sunshine State, anyone born after Jan. 1, 1988, must successfully complete a boater safety course approved by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) in order to operate any boat powered by more than 10 horsepower, and they are required to carry their boater education card with them when out on the water along with picture ID. Regarding the above law, which has been in effect for over a year, Flotilla 82 of the USCG Auxiliary, based in Sarasota, Florida (at Mote Marine) offers a 1-day course held on the last Saturday of each month. It starts at 9:00 am and completes at 5:00 pm. The course includes the USCG exam which, if passed, results in a Florida lifetime boating card/license.
