Bonnier Events Introduces Helly Hansen Sailing World Regatta Series

ewport, RI (February 1, 2022) — With the 2022 racing season now underway, Bonnier Events continues to build on the rich tradition of the iconic brand of Sailing World magazine and its long-running racing series by introducing the rebranded Helly Hansen Sailing World Regatta Series. Featuring both a new name and event branding, the Helly Hansen Sailing World Regatta Series will kick off its 33rd season in St. Petersburg in February. Formerly called, the National Offshore OneDesign Regatta, the format was an immediate success with its unique concept of racing level in larger production boats, its unrivaled post-racing social experiences and its professional race management. The Sailing World Regatta Series grew nationally and remains the most popular weekend racing series in the United States.

The Helly Hansen Sailing World Regatta Series today encompasses more than larger one-design raceboats. Embracing popular
fleets at each location, the regatta series now features many different boat types: dinghies, multihulls, and keelboats that race under established handicap systems. This year’s series will travel to St. Petersburg, Fla., San Diego; Annapolis, Md., Chicago, and Marblehead, Mass., thanks to the premier host yacht clubs located in these renowned sailing venues. The Helly Hansen Sailing World series will continue the traditions that have made it a sailor-favorite series like its post-racing parties and social events at each yacht club, and awarding one topfinishing team at each regatta a chance to compete in the overall season championship, held in the British Virgin Islands in October. “The Helly Hansen Sailing World Regatta Series has grown exponentially since its inception and now reaches a very broad audience. Gulf Crosser Yachts Unveils New 44 Foot Center Console Boat With Climate-Controlled Helm and Passenger Seating Area

The boat includes many of the features of their acclaimed 52 footer but in a slightly smaller form factor. Key design features of the Gulf Crosser 44 include:
• An air-conditioned and heated pilothouse with a full glass enclosure and doors on both sides that allow every passenger the ability to enter and exit either side. • A lower cabin including a large bed, a restroom with an enclosed shower, and a day galley. The lower cabin can be reached directly from the upper salon so that passengers don’t have to venture outside to use it. • Wide passageways and high gunnels for safe and easy access to the front of the boat. • Bow seating plus a comfortable sunpad positioned to reduce the potential of obstructing the captain’s view even when occupied.

Brunswick Corporation Signs Virtual Power Purchase Agreement with Vesper Energy to Offset Electricity Demand with Renewable Solar Energy

ETTAWA, Ill. – Jan. 4, 2022 – Brunswick Corporation (NYSE: BC) has entered into a virtual power purchase agreement (VPPA) with Vesper Energy (“Vesper”) to offset a majority of the projected electrical power needs of Brunswick’s global operations through clean solar energy. Under the multi-year agreement, Vesper, a leading developer, owner, and operator of utility-scale renewable energy assets will deliver an estimated 57MW of renewable energy annually to the North American grid. The solar energy will be generated from Vesper’s 500 MW Hornet Solar project in Texas, which is targeted to be fully operational by the end of 2023. Vesper has commercialized over 680 MW of solar projects in the U.S. and has an existing 3 GW solar and 2.5 GWh energy storage development pipeline. “We are proud to take the next step toward reducing our carbon footprint by entering into a contract with Vesper,” said Dave Foulkes, Brunswick CEO. “We understand the impact our businesses and products have on the environment and supporting the addition

ailors can never have enough gear so they’re perfect to buy for on any occasion. Regardless of your budget or their size and type of boat, you can find something that will delight them and if you think they’re the kind of sailor who has it all, you can always pick up something for yourself instead. Here are some sailing accessories that will leave everyone pleased as punch. Safety gear There’s never enough safety gear on a boat. Beyond the required flares and fire extinguishers, here are items that will let them know you care. • Inflatable harness – a lifejacket and a harness in one, an inflatable PFD is an easy purchase. You don’t need to think much about the fit when you buy one. Just make sure it has the appropriate D-rings so it can hook to a tether that will keep your sailor safely attached to the boat in any conditions. You can also pick up a stretching tether and a CO2 rearming kit. • Towing membership – sometimes the wind doesn’t blow, the batteries die or the engine won’t run so a towing membership is a sure way to get home for coastal sailors. Memberships vary by the area to which they extend and the level of comprehensive coverage. Most memberships are for a year but in some areas, they may be discounted for just the sailing season. • Handheld VHF radio – keeping in touch is key to staying safe. Shop for a handheld radio with rechargeable batteries and a decent level of waterproofness and your sailor will be able to take
it in the dinghy when exploring away from the main boat or on daysails in areas where there is no cell coverage. • Medical kit – accidents happen so readily accessible bandages, tape, burn cream and antiseasickness medicine can keep sailors safe for a day or longer. There are a number of prepackaged kits available and some even come with comprehensive guidebooks on how to use the contents. Fun stuff We boat to have adventures and to have fun, so consider items that provide entertainment when the sailing is paused. • Inflatable pool noodles – sitting at anchor, there’s always the temptation to jump in the water. Buy inflatable pool noodles that can be tethered to the boat so everyone hangs out in the water together. They’re small, colorful and they don’t take up much space. When you’re done, just rinse and deflate them and tuck them away anywhere. • Waterproof speakers – having a party or raucous sail? Music will make it much better. Portable waterproof speakers can pair with your phone and tuck in any cubby in the cockpit or under the dodger. You can even make your sailor a personalized playlist. • Electric candles – boats and fire are a bad mix but when you want mood lighting for a dinner in the cockpit, opt for electric candles. They flicker like the real thing, run on small batteries for a long time and will never put the boat in danger. • Books – sailing is a year-round activity only in
parts of the country so what can a wistful sailor do during long dark winters? Read about sailing, that’s what! There are so many good sailing books that make perfect stocking stuffers. Whether how-to guides on cruising and racing, technical knowledge guides for electrical systems or sails, or adventurous fiction, there’s a book for every voracious reader. Boat chores Boats come with honey-do lists and maintenance issues. Why not make it easier for your sailor to get the job done? • Rigging knife – sailors can’t have enough rigging knives. These compact tools have a sharp blade to cut new sheets, a marlinspike to undo tight knots and sometimes even a shackle key to crank on stuck gear. Buy a holster or make a decorative tether for added personalization. • Cleaning supplies – chandleries have entire aisles dedicated to cleaning items. Put together a customized kit of canvas, fiberglass, wood and metal cleaners and include sponges, brushes, and
microfiber towels to let them know you’re thinking about keeping their baby beautiful. • Marine grade socket set – sailboats are always tight on space so a compact, perfectly packaged socket or wrench set will be much appreciated. To show how much you care, spring for marine grade steel so the tools don’t rust. • Headlamp – whether cleaning the bilge or grilling in the dark, headlamps are used for just about everything on a boat. Be sure to get one that has a white and red light to protect their night vision. Treat by the big spender • If money is no object, consider things they really need like an outboard dinghy motor. Usually sized 3 to 15 horsepower, a small outboard can open up a new world for sailors with a tender. No need to row anymore, just fire up the engines and explore the shoreline, run in for groceries, or visit friends in the anchorage. Most of these small motors won’t break the bank and you can choose the type of fuel including gasoline, propane or all electric.

Captain’sCorner with Captain Kyle Messier Fly Fishing Greatness In January & February AH YEAH!!!!! The New Year has finally been upon us folk’s and I for one have been super stoked about the prospects of 2022 going forward. Clear skies and low humidity have led to some incredible fishing weather days in recent weeks. It’s not often that the peninsula of Florida experiences warm weather that includes little to no humidity but we’ll take it. As most locals will tell you, it’s weather like this that ends up costing a lot of families a ton of money as plenty of new homes and boats will be purchased in the coming weeks. Come One, Come All and Start Living The Florida Dream!!! The anglers lucky enough to hit the water with Reel Florida Fishing Charters over the prolonged stretch of incredible weather will tell you plenty of stories regarding the extremely memorable skinny water Redfish action featured along the flats of both Crystal River and Homosassa. Ankle deep water is the name of the game this time of year as predominantly easterly breezes do a fantastic job of slowing down even the strongest of incoming tides. This is the time of year where skinny water poling skiffs are utilized to take advantage of some of the best tailing Redfish conditions
of the winter. Skiffs like my very own Maverick HPX-S were specifically designed to float in 4-6” of water in order to target Redfish in the shallowest of water depths where these fish feel the most comfortable. Guides like myself and skinny water junkies interested in chasing Redfish in water so shallow that most of their bodies are exposed, actively seek out the negative tides that are predominantly featured during the months of January and February as hungry Redfish lazily feed on whatever shrimp or small crab’s expose themselves. In certain instances the shallower the tides the more congregated schools of Redfish will become. On January 5th for instance my angler Howard and I fished a day where a -1.0 tide was featured making navigable poling water tough to find. After a hell-raising ride over the lime stone flats and through the maze of mangroves the Nature Coast is famous for we settled in on a flat that was surely heading towards dry within a short period of time. Long story short we had
with Captain Ray Markham What crazy weather we’ve been having in the West Central Region over the past couple of weeks. Last Sunday we had freezing temperatures and by this coming weekend, we should see air temperatures over 80-degrees. Most fish have difficulty establishing a steady feeding pattern under these conditions, so go slow and take your time at spots that look fishy. A warming trend this week should push water temps back up, making fish look for food. OFFSHORE/ NEARSHORE Quite a few days over the past week have been blown out or “frozen” out, I guess I should say. Water clarity has been poor until you get out to some fairly deep water. With bumpy seas, many anglers have opted to fish nearshore waters and deal with the turbidity. For the boats out of Hubbard’s Marina, the nearshore hogfish bite has been pretty good in depths ranging from 40-to 90-feet. Most of the hogs have been caught on live shrimp. Lane snapper are being caught in good numbers beyond 70-feet of water west of John’s Pass. Anglers are using squid, shrimp, and cut threadfins for the majority of these fish. Mangrove snapper in the 4-to 7-pound range have been caught at 100-feet and beyond. The red grouper action has been slow nearshore but gets progressively better beyond 100-feet but grouper will be closed during February and March beyond the 20-fathom curve, which is beyond 120-feet of water. INSHORE Anglers had some real challenges during portions of the past week. High winds and extremely low temperatures dropped water temps down into the low 50’s in the Tampa Bay area.

Tuesday night’s new moon along with north winds in some areas pushed tides down to negative low levels beyond the predicted levels. Navigation was tough at times, particularly for most bay boats. Skinny water craft had the most to gain in that they could get back to fish trapped in deeper pockets of water where anglers had to traverse over very shallow flats to get there. For anglers opting to fish from shore, good action was seen for those fishing for sheepshead. Some of the largest sheepshead of the year will be caught over the next month. New and full moon weeks trigger a spawn for these fish. Some anglers are hauling in sheepies weighing 5-to 8-pounds. Some of the best areas to fish have structure on the bottom, rock piles, or areas with lots of pilings, such as docks and bridges. Live fiddler crabs will be the top bait if you can find it. Sunny days usually will bring them out of their holes if you are looking for them yourself. Overcast days keep them in their holes. Dig a few dozen and you’ve got gold. Live shrimp are probably a good bet as well, and shrimpers wait a couple of days or so following very cold weather to get them because the shrimp will bury in the mud until the warmth returns. When the shrimp come out, the shrimpers hit the water. With this warming trend toward the weekend, look for fish to be stirring and moving around looking for food. Baitfish may be hard to find, but shrimp should be available to fish and they will be foraging for them and any crabs that they might find. Redfish at mid-week worked their way to shallow dark bottoms to heat up, triggering the appetites. Small baits will work well right now. If you can’t get live shrimp, fakes like the DOA 3-inch Shrimp will work as well. It’s also a perfect time of year to toss CAL Curl tail jigs and work them

West Florida Southwest Coast a small window of time to pull something off and as the tide dropped so did the Redfish. Hundreds of hungry Redfish dropped right into a small channel where at one point in time our boat was surrounded by tailing Redfish in all directions!!!! This was a crazy sight to see but one I was glad to witness first hand. As most of my angler will tell you, tailing Redfish (outside of Tarpon) is my kryptonite. I love these fish almost as much as I love my wife. They are challenging, yet accommodating. One day they are easy. The next day they have a snotty attitude. When a feeding Redfish pops their tail up out of the water it almost reminds me of the that bra clasp I could never figured out. I love the challenge and so do most of my anglers. Live baits are looked at. Flies are followed. Join the club and work on cracking the code like the rest of us.

West Central Florida very slowly along the bottom. Darker colors like bloodworm, golden bream, or rootbeer/ gold glitter will excel right now. Pitch them to the edges of grass or potholes, but if you find fish blowing out around your boat and you don’t see them until you’re already on top of them, they could be staging up inside a dark brown or reddish colored mossy-looking cover called red drift algae. It can vary in color but the dark color can absorb heat, and I’ve found that most times this will hold more crabs and shrimp than in most grasses in the area. High tides won’t be as high as average highs go. But look for docklines to hold reds and maybe a few trout or an occasional snook. But be careful to avoid handle fish to be released excessively. Try and keep the fish in the water while dehooking. Trout fishing south of Pinellas continues to be slow in many areas. Some of the best action in the Tampa Bay area is on the South Shore from Apollo Beach to the Manatee River. Deep grass areas in Sarasota Bay can hold some trout, but many are at or below the lower end of the slot. North Pinellas from Honeymoon and Caladesi Islands north, there have been some good reports of trout catches, with many over the 19inch maximum. Anglers report good action with live shrimp, and for those fishing potholes with 3-to 5-foot depths some good catches with both MirrOlure 17MR18 MirrOdines and TT26MR MirrOlures are being reported. Redfish have been caught in the shallows around no motor zones.

Prespawn, spawn, and post-spawn. And they’re in all levels of the lake. We’re catching fish offshore, on the outside edges of grass, and up shallow. January through March is a fun time to fish here because bass can be caught so many different ways. You can start offshore on hydrilla then move up inside the lilly pads and grass and catch good fish both places. You really get to experience all the lake has to offer! If you’re looking for trophies, large golden shiners are the way to go. While we get 8+ pounders on artificials, they are much more consistently caught on the shiners. But if you want to go with artificials, jerkbaits, chatterbaits, rattletraps, flukes, and flipping have all been catching good fish.
with Captain Mo Estevez This has been tough! Wow, this is incredible! In January I am usually swamped with work and very few days off but not January 2022. Between the surging Omicron virus and the flight cancelations due to the virus travel has come to a stand still and I was off for about two weeks, just crazy. Well, today I was back to work with Ruven who has fished with me before. He usually likes to throw lures only and we do well. The same today but the start was slow as I took him to a few different places that have worked for me recently. At one spot there were a bunch of snook but with lower than normal water temps they were not willing to play as they focused on warming up. Towards the end of the trip we decided to use the live shrimp I had in the live well and things got good with non stop action on mahogany snapper, yellow jacks and more.

down the water temps to the low 60’s, not good! Along for the ride today was Steve and his son. They wanted to try for bonefish so I took them to a shallow point I like and try to work the deeper edge where there should be slightly warmer water but I warned them it would be tough. Well, they went 0-2 on bonefish during our morning trip and landed a bonnet head shark. It wasn’t what I would have liked but at least they hooked two nice bones in spite of the blistering cold water temps. It almost didn’t happen It’s funny how things work out sometimes. I had two trips scheduled for tomorrow Saturday but Joe, my morning trip, called and asked if we could fish Friday, today, instead. I guess he saw the weather forecast of temperatures in the 30’s and winds upwards of 30 MPH. So off we went on Friday morning with his friend Vinnie. The water temps were back at 70 and the morning was extremely foggy to the point we were limited on where we could go so we stayed close to the marina and went bonefishing. This is where Vinnie when bonefishing for the first time and he got his first bonefish. Yes!!!! The rare fog usually burns off in the first hour but not today, it actually got thicker throughout at the morning

During my trip with Joe and Vinnie, Jon calls me asking what time to meet today. “Huh, I can today but we’re scheduled for tomorrow.” Turns out he had his dates mixed up and the trip was supposed to be today. No problem. I wrapped up my trip with Joe and Vinnie catching snappers, although small, on every cast. As soon as I dropped off Joe and Vinnie, Jon and Stefan jump aboard and we’re off with the fog now cleared but the skies overcast. Jon was on spin and Stefan on fly and we struck out on bonefish but then they told me they would be happy catching anything. Cool! I took them to a wreck, set up and watched Jon catch yellow jacks, big blue runners, snappers and a few big mystery fish while the fish ignored Stefan’s fly, they don’t usually. Once Stefan picked up a spinning rod it was on as all fish were caught on lures and they took home plenty to eat. By the evening and the following day the weather was horrible so the schedule change worked out.

SAFETY CHECKS AND SAFE BOATING CLASSES A Vessel Safety Check is a complimentary check of your boat conducted by members of the Auxiliary, confirming that it meets both federal and state requirements for safety. No citations are issued, and the results of the safety check are not reported to any enforcement agency, but a decal is awarded to display when the vessel has passed the examination. CLEARWATER COAST GUARD AUXILIARY TEACHING BOATING SAFETY CLASSES ONLINE - 2022 - A New Way to Learn … A New Crop of Safe Boaters. With the advent of COVID-19, the Coast Guard Auxiliary was advised to discontinue inperson classes for the safety of the instructors and students. The good news is that the State of Florida (FWC) and the National Association of Boating Law Administrators (NASBLA) have approved the Coast Guard Auxiliary to conduct online classes. These classes are not your standard webinar sessions where the students sit at their computers and are lectured at. And they’re not animated cartoon sessions where you have to keep pressing enter to get to the next topic. Classes are $40 per student and include the books, supplemental materials and course completion certificates. The classes being offered by the Clearwater Coast Guard Auxiliary are conducted on Zoom with the same instructors the student would have had in the classroom and allowing lots of questions and answers. In addition, because the classes are on the Internet, there’s no commuting to a classroom – the students can be anywhere in Florida! The boating safety class is also a requirement for many boaters in Florida. In the Sunshine State, anyone born after Jan. 1, 1988, must successfully complete a boater safety course approved by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) in order to operate any boat powered by more than 10 horsepower, and they are required to carry their boater education card with them when out on the water along with picture ID.
