Reina Introduces a Bold New Concept in Boating: The Luxury Houseyacht

MIAMI, FL – AUGUST 8, 2023 – This autumn marks the launch of an exciting new category of boat: the luxury Houseyacht. Not a traditional yacht, not a power catamaran, not a houseboat – the Houseyacht by Reina Boats blends the best elements of all three into a stylish vessel that will serve both as a yacht and a luxury home on the water.

This new concept is the brainchild of Reina Founders Hayri Dayi and Emin Günal. During the Covid pandemic, they saw a surge in popularity not only in the boating lifestyle but also in vacationing on the water with family. At the same time, however, they identified the need for a different kind of vessel that could deliver all the amenities people new to boating desired –and do it both affordably and with style.

“Many boats do not have the living space to provide all the accommodations and comforts people want. Power catamarans offer more volume but also have become quite expensive. That left houseboats as the only option,” Günal said.

In researching the U.S. houseboat market, however, Günal and Dayi realized that the vessel designs largely were outdated. “The existing houseboats were stuck in the design of the 1980s, and almost 90 percent of the houseboats on the water were commercially rented vessels. They were boats that yacht and catamaran owners would never consider buying,” Günal said.

That led the Reina team to develop the concept of the Houseyacht – a luxury vessel owners can take on yachting adventures as well as use to enjoy waterfront living in the marina.

“Our goal is to make a comfortable life on the water available to everyone. We are creating a whole new way of liveaboard cruising and recreational boating with designs that merge luxury and accessibility. We set out to do all this without compromising on quality,” Günal said.

To make this concept a reality, Günal designed the Reina line of Houseyachts, including 26-, 34-, 44- and 60-foot models. The Reina line includes five models ranging from a “floating RV” to a luxurious, two-story “waterfront condo”. Each model features a fresh, upscale look with high-quality furniture and appliances and smart home technology.

“When designing the Reina line, the most important criterion was to create Houseyachts that could be used not only in lakes and canals like traditional houseboats but also in open seas. Reina complies with CE Class C, ABYC, and U.S. Coast Guard standards,” Günal said. “The boats are made entirely of marine-grade aluminium. They do not have pontoons in the traditional sense – The hull design is based on catamaran engineering principles. All the materials used in the interior and exterior spaces are commonly used in the yachting sector.”

The Reina line is powered by Mercury outboard engines, which align with Reina’s goal to help reduce emissions, promote sustainability and product longevity. “The latest generation of Mercury outboards exemplifies how advanced technology and thoughtful design can help to contribute to the preservation of natural environment,” Günal said. “They are fuel-efficient, remarkably quiet, and operate smoothly. They also are certified with an Ultra

Low Emissions rating from the California Air Resources Board (CARB).”

In addition, Reina offers lithium-ion phosphate batteries as an alternative power source, eliminating the need to run a generator in order to further reduce emissions and promote sustainability.

Reina Houseyachts currently are being constructed in Turkey. The first model, the Reina Live 44 DR, is scheduled to arrive in Miami in September and make its World Debut at the 2023 Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show this October.

Dometic Partners With Apex Marine to Make Power Steering Standard on Premium Qwest Pontoons

Dometic has announced an agreement with leading boat builder Apex Marine, Inc. that will bring the comfort, ease, and sportscar-like control of SeaStar Xtreme Power Assist (XPA) Steering and Electric Power Steering (EPS) to a whole new class of popular vessels.

Through this partnership, all Qwest M-Class Twin Tube models and Qwest Q3V Triple Tube models will feature Dometic’s innovative, award-winning steering system as standard equipment. In addition, XPA steering will be offered as a premium factory option on all other Apex Pontoon models with outboard power from 90 to 200HP.

For the Qwest Q3X Triple Tube, the package will come standard with Dometic’s advanced Electric Power Steering (EPS) for the ultimate in precision steering control and smooth operation.

Dealers from across the country, industry partners and the boating press learned this news during the Apex 2024 Homecoming Event, held August 6-8 in Saint Louis, Michigan. Among the highlights of the three-day event was the opportunity to demo drive several new-for-2024 Qwest Pontoon boat models on nearby Crystal Lake in central Michigan.

Time to Repower? Electric Is the Modern Solution

Increasingly, owners who are repowering inboard engines modernize their vessels by choosing clean, eco-friendly Elco electric propulsion. Straightforward to install and simple to operate, the motors deliver torque and power comparable to traditional combustion engines, but without the maintenance, fumes and costly fuel dock bills.

Built in the USA, award-winning Elco inboard motors are first and foremost safe and reliable. With a 50,000-hour service life and only one moving part, they have a simple yet dynamic AC motor technology that’s highly efficient— up to 40% greater than competing DC motors. Boat Safety Checklist & Safety Equipment

Whether you’re using your boat for fishing, wakesurfing, skiing, diving, day cruising or overnighting, remember to pack essential safety gear. If you keep it onboard, inspect it periodically and keep it in good working order. Although the U.S. Coast Guard requires different items for different kinds and sizes of vessels, there is some basic gear that will help keep you safe and out of trouble with the authorities. Here are a few must haves as well as should haves to stow aboard this boating season.

5 Must-Have Safety Equipment for Your Boat

1. Life jackets and wearable personal flotation devices (PFDs)

An accessible, wearable PFD (Type I, II, or III) is a life jacket that must be available for each person on board. If you’re towing a skier or have a wake surfer behind the boat, he or she will need a PFD as well. Kids 12 and under must always wear their PFD on a moving vessel. Likewise, everyone riding a personal watercraft (PWC) must also wear a PFD at all times. In case of an emergency of any kind, the first thing you should do is ensure that all passengers onboard immediately put on their life jackets—or proactively, you can recommend that all those onboard just put them on right at the dock before departure. Although not required, your pet should have a lifejacket, too.

2. Throwable flotation devices

In addition to the life jackets you wear, you’ll need at least one floating device (Type IV) that you can throw to an individual in the water in case of trouble. This can be a cushion, a ring buoy or other device and although only one is required, it’s better to have several. Some of these items may come with a line attached so you can pull a person closer to the boat and then get them out of the water.

3. Fire extinguishers

There are different kinds and ratings for extinguishers but to keep it simple, remember that boats under 26 feet (including PWCs) need at least one B-1 type extinguisher and boats 26 to just under 40 feet need two B-1 types or one B-2 type. Discuss with your family and guests how to operate an extinguisher: pull the pin, squeeze the handle and aim at the base of the flames.

4. Visual signaling devices

Visual distress signals can come in a variety packages and there are different requirements by size of vessel and even by the state where you go boating. Boats under 16 feet must have flares or nighttime signals. Boats over 16 feet must carry visual signals for both day and night use. Examples of pyrotechnic devices or flares that would qualify are orange or white smoke and aerial light flares. Some flares are self-launching while others require a flare gun to send them into the sky. Other nighttime devices include a strobe light while flags may be used during the day. PWCs cannot be operated between sunset and sunrise so they don’t need to carry nighttime devices.

5. Sound signaling devices

Sounds can attract help both day and night and are especially effective in fog. Portable or fixed horns and whistles count as sound-generating devices for all boats. Larger vessels (over 39 feet) should also carry a bell to be sounded at regular intervals in times of limited visibility like fog.

12 Should-Have Safety Equipment for Your Boat

Depending on the type of boating you do and where you do it, some of these may be required or only recommended items. Either way, you can pack most of these aboard even the smallest of boats.

1. Medical kit for cuts, scrapes, seasickness or small emergencies.

2. Anchor with line to hold your boat in place while you wait for help to arrive.

3. Bailing device or bucket to dewater and stay afloat.

4. Oars or paddles if the engine quits.

5. Cellphone to call for help.

6. VHF radio to call for help.

7. Knife to cut a line around a fouled propeller.

8. Snorkel mask to inspect what’s going on under the boat.

9. Heavy duty flashlight.

10. Skier or diver down flag.

11. Working running lights if your boat is equipped with them.

12. A way to get weather updates because things can change quickly even on a lake.

A VESSEL SAFETY CHECK - STUART - Despite numerous COVID-19 restrictions, more and more boaters are taking to the water to alleviate at-home boredom while taking advantage of the open-air benefits and more pandemic-free aspects of recreational boating. But if you haven’t been out boating in a while, are your vessel’s lights operating properly? Do you have a sufficient number of life jackets for the number of passengers aboard? Is your engine’s ventilation system up to par? To get you started on a new year boating adventure, now may be a perfect time to consider getting a 2022 Vessel Safety Check (VSC) offered by certified VSC examiners from the St. Lucie River Power Squadron, also known as America’s Boating Club of Martin County. These trained VSC examiners from the local squadron will point out safety features such as minimum requirements required by the U.S. Coast Guard, examine fundamental mechanical aspects of your vessel, and answer questions how you can have more fun safely on the water. These are just a few of the many discussion points covered in this voluntary examination. As an added plus, Vessel Safety Checks are free to boat owners. And if you don’t “pass muster” with the thorough examination, the summary report is yours and yours alone. is a complimentary check of your boat conducted by members of the Auxiliary, confirming that it meets both federal

and state requirements for safety. No citations are issued, and the results of the safety check are not reported to any enforcement agency, but a decal is awarded to display when the vessel has passed the examination. The Vessel Safety Check (VSC) is performed at your boat, whether in a slip, at the launch ramp, or in your driveway, by a certified Vessel Examiner, at a mutuallyconvenient time. It usually takes 20-45 minutes, depending on the size of your boat. After successful inspection you are awarded a vessel safety check sticker which is affixed to your vessel near your state registration sticker. FLORIDA BOATER’S ID CARD - Don’t forget that “Anyone born on or after January 1, 1988 is required to either have successfully completed a National Association of State Boating Law Administrators (NASBLA) approved boating education course or have passed a course equivalency or temporary certificate examination and have in their possession a boating education ID card and a photo identification card before operating a vessel with a motor of 10 HP or more in Florida.” Identification cards for persons completing the course or the equivalency exam are good for a lifetime. Temporary Certificate exams are made available to the public through contractors. The temporary certificate is valid for 12 months from the issue date. 2023 - The Coast Guard urges recreational boaters, paddlers, anglers, and others to remain safe on the water by taking a Safe Boating Course. A safe boating class can teach about local boating, the value of wearing a life jacket, and several other lifesaving lessons. A boating safety course will teach the basic skills to operate a vessel safely. It includes the diverse types of boats, their capabilities, and how to choose the right boat for a particular maritime activity. Class members will also learn about various safety equipment and how to use them to avoid accidents. Before heading out onto the open water, it’s crucial to know how to read the weather since Florida is known for its sudden changes from lovely calm seas and winds to thunderstorms, torrential rains, and waterspouts. In the boating safety class, students learn methods for staying safe in any condition, including heavy winds, fog, and severe storms. Boating can be an excellent way to enjoy the outdoors and spend time with family and friends. But it’s essential to be aware of the potential dangers. A class will help the boater avoid being a statistic. It teaches how to handle a boat safely and what to do in an emergency. Finally, taking a boating safety course is a wonderful way to learn the rules and regulations, especially those unique to Florida. Novice and experienced boaters or even non-boaters can benefit from a safe boating course – as an initial learning experience or as a refresher. Regardless of experience level, taking a class is always a good idea. To continue offering these classes safely for the students and instructors, they are being offered on Zoom with the same instructors the student would have had in the classroom and allowing lots of questions and answers. Because the classes are on the Internet, there’s no commuting to a classroom –the students can be anywhere in Florida! Classes are $50 per student and include books, supplemental materials, and course completion certificates. The next classes begin in January and continue monthly. AUXILIARY Florida law requires that any person born on or after Jan. 1, 1988, may

not operate a vessel powered by a motor of 10 horsepower or greater unless such person has in his or her possession, aboard the vessel, photographic identification, a Florida boater safety identification card (or any other state’s boating card), and the registration for their vessel. Regarding the above law, which has been in effect for over a year, Flotilla 82 of the USCG Auxiliary, based in Sarasota, Florida (at Mote Marine) offers a 1-day course held on the last Saturday of each month. It starts at 9:00 am and completes at 5:00 pm. The course includes the USCG exam which, if passed, results in a Florida lifetime boating card/license. The Heat is On!

Fishing this time of year can get pretty tough with the air temperatures pushing triple digits and water temperatures bumping up into the 90s at times. Sometimes I frown at windy, rainy days with canceled trips, but, with the extreme heat that we’ve had lately, a windy day with heavy rains can cool things down a bit and regenerate areas by raising oxygen levels in the water. Some of my most productive days on the water have been either just prior to thunderstorms on overcast days or just after a heavy rain. Winds turn water over adding oxygen. Water will also hold more dissolved oxygen when it’s cooler too. This is majorly important in the summer when fish struggle with low oxygen levels. It’s also the reason that extra care must be taken to revive fish to be released. The struggle they put up in their attempt to get free from the hook is akin to a marathon runner reaching the finish line. They are spent and just trying to recover, but it takes more time than normal.

For myself and my clients, an early start is best when water temperatures are at a low point. The bonus is being able to see the sun peaking up over the eastern horizon and enjoying the sight.

there is a slight barometric pressure change at that time that seems to trigger a bite in fish. I love fishing topwater lures during this period. Since the mid-‘90s, the MirrOlure Top Dog has been one of my favorite topwater lures. The Heddon Zara Spook would be one of my classic favorites as well, but in more current times, the Rapala Skitterwalk deserves an honorable mention. Big snook, trout, and even redfish hammer these surface baits. The visual explosion is worth getting out of bed for.

The first few hours of daylight are prime and after about 10 or 11 a.m. the action noticeably drops off. It’s not to say that an afternoon bite can’t be good, but it’s usually around new and full moons that I like fishing late afternoons/ evenings with things cool off. In addition, the falling tide generally drops to negative low levels, consolidating fish into potholes and along channel edges.

Redfish action usually kicks it up a notch during the month of August and continues through about October when we’ll see some oversized breeder redfish moving along the Gulf Coast. They will follow bait schools and mullet in and out of our estuaries and bays to feed. These

Heat! Hot! Humidity! Yep, you get the picture. Fishing during the summer months here in Florida has its fare share of challenges but for those anglers that are early risers the rewards far exceed the risks. First off, who doesn’t love a good sunrise? Now throw in an awesome topwater bite to go along with that. That’s my idea of an epic morning. Just remember no one says you have to fish all day to be successful!

Seasoned anglers understand that although we as humans become sluggish when temps rise during the summer months, fish become super charged as warmer water temps typically speed up a fish’s metabolism meaning they have to eat more and often. Eat! Hunt! Eat! Hunt! This process goes on and on day in and day out as most fish feed like crazy this time of year, as they know the winter months are not far away.

monster reds, frequently topping 40 inches hit hard and fight like junkyard dogs with a never-saydie attitude. Blistering runs with screeching drags add to the sensory levels and the tug is the drug that anglers feel fighting these fish.

I love fishing in areas of lower Tampa Bay, with a variety of habitat that exists. There are mangrove islands that provide shade, and shelter, rookeries that provide habitat for birds, and food for fish. Sand bars make prime locations for sand fleas and baitfish for pompano to eat. Grass beds are shelters for shrimp, crabs, and baitfish for trout, redfish, and many others. Channel markers and other structures are stopping spots for tripletail and cobia. The influx of a variety of rays onto the flats often sees cobia trailing behind, waiting for the wings to suck up crabs or other morsels for them to eat.

It’s still hot out but this is just a preview of the heat to come as we countdown the days to fall. Counting down, but never out. ‘Til then…I’ll catch ya later!

Mackerel, Bluefish, False Albacore, Redfish, Speckled Trout, and Snook all are on the hunt within these bait schools.

Successful anglers have been throwing smaller topwater baits such as Zara Puppy Spooks and Mirolure TopDog Jr’s to entice strikes. While fly guys love (I mean LOVE!!!!!) throwing small white Gurglers!!! Its all about”matching the hatch” and there is nothing more exciting to fly anglers than having a hefty fish smash a fly on the surface.

It’s Been Awhile

It’s been some time since the last report, but to be honest there really hasn’t been much to report. Summer in South Florida means one thing and that is mahi fishing. Sad to say but this has been the worse year of mahi fishing that I have ever seen. The trend the past few years has been later and later into the summer. In the old days May would kick off the mahi run and it would last into August. The past few years it’s been more June and lasting until September. This year it has still yet to materialize. In June we couldn’t find hardly any mahis at all. That is for the entire coast of Florida. July, we saw more mahis but 99% were too small to keep. Just this past weekend we caught over 80 mahis and we were only able to keep 3 of those fish. The rest were too small. Last season the mahi run got better in mid-July so hopefully this year it will get better in the next few weeks. It’s so sad to see this fishery fade the way it has. It was the staple of summertime fishing for the entire SE Coast of Florida. I hope that it materializes in the next few weeks.

Besides mahi fishing, there have been some bonitos and kingfish on the edge as well as some sailfish. The sailfishing has been the better option this whole summer. With mahi fishing so slow a lot of people are targeting other fish and one of those is wahoo. Trolling planers or high-speed trolling in the

early morning has produced some nice catches of wahoo. Nobody is catching 8 or 10 a day like we will soon on the Bahamas, but 2 or 3 nice 40 to 60 pound wahoo a day sounds like a lot of fun to me. As matter of fact, we will be doing trolling ballyhoos on the planers tomorrow targeting wahoo.

We have been to the Bahamas a few times this summer and the fishing in Bimini has been very good. The yellowtail snapper fishing has been great. On our last trip we had the yellowtails chummed within a few feet of the boat. Normally the sharks can get really bad in Bimini and catching yellowtails can be problematic if the sharks hone in on you. This time, the yellowtails were so close that the sharks didn’t have any time to eat the hooked yellowtails. It was epic snapper fishing with lots of big flags caught.

Swordfishing has also been off this summer but that can be normal for June and July. Usually, the current in the Gulfstream is at its highest and that certainly was the case last week with over 5 knots of current on the sword grounds. We did catch a nice pomfret but no sword bites that day. The current usually

Boys day out August 5, 2023

Dad/sons day out on the boat today with Steven and his two boys Jack and Travis. They wanted to bonefish and catch sharks so we started off our full day bonefishing. The conditions were great but the full moon meant a decent number of fish were offshore spawning but there were some still around. We missed tow bites early on and then made a move. At the 4th spot we finally hooked up and Jack got his first bonefish. By this time it was about 9 am and there were boats everywhere including running right behind our boat and spooking everything around so we gave up on bonefishing and went to catch shark bait. Here the boys had a great time pulling on small snappers and grunts. We kept the grunts and hit the flats, my favorite flat on the incoming tide and it proved dead. OK, we fished my second favorite flat on the incoming and that did it. Here we saw a massive hammer head shark in about 2 1/1’ of water right by the boat, it was awesome! Oh, and we hooked several sharks and landed one before we called it a day.

We don’t have a ton of trips coming up but it’s a good time to get ready for next season. We just put on a new set of Mercury Outboards this past month and had the bottom painted, so the boat is all set and now we will work on tackle and the occasional trip until fall time arrives and we start getting back into kite fishing.

The first spot was slow so we moved off to another flat and the bites were coming but not the hooking. We broke the ice with Bruce hooking the first bonefish he got to eat and the pressure was half way off. But, we missed a few bites until his son was able to keep a hook in a bone and got his first one to the boat before we called it a day.

That’s what Bruce had told me when he jumped aboard with his son. I made sure we start early for two reasons, 1: the best bite has been on the outgoing tide and 2: we need to beat the heat and avoid the 91 degree water temps we have been

Chelsea booked a trip for her boys, 15 and 14 year old hardcore fishermen sons. This was a cool trip where we caught a bunch of different species and kept mixing it up. Towards the end of the trip we decided to shark fish with some of the fish we caught and set up on one of my favorite flats on this tide for sharks. Well, we set the baits out and the chum slick and waited. Not long after, I see some shadows and tails working towards us in the increasingly shallow water. Just as I had mentioned a few minutes before to the boys, these were bonefish coming towards us, a gift from God! Well, I put on a shrimp and cast in front of the school and handed the rod to James. A hard tap later, the rod bent, the reel started to sign and he was on! James got to land his first bonefish, we hooked some sharks and tons of smaller fun fish.

Eric and his son Will booked me for a full day, in August! They wanted to mix it up but with the conditions we had I told them we would start off bonefishing. I had to fish a different area than I usually do for bonefish for a few different reasons but we hit it just right and those bonefish were pouring through big time! This would be a short window of opportunity and they have been schooling in a different area than normal but we were ready. The guys made some casts at these schools but the bones would move off just enough to avoid our live shrimp. Another school was moving through and Will made a long cast WAY in front of the school, like 30’ in front, and waited. This time he hooked up and it was on! A long fight later and some brutal beat down of my reel’s drag, Will got his double digit bonefish to the boat. Wow! Quite honestly, I can’t remember what happened the rest of the trip since I am writing this about a week later and that bonefish was the highlight. Anyway, it was a good trip and fantastic for Will!
