Florida Swordfish Sliders Ingredients 4 (3-ounce) swordfish steaks, skinless 4 leaves romaine lettuce leaves 1 large tomato, sliced 1/2 small red onion, sliced 4 small rolls, toasted 2 tablespoons low-fat mayonnaise 1/2 lemon, juiced 2 teaspoons blackened seasoning 4 grape tomatoes, for garnish oil for cooking Directions: In a small mixing bowl, combine mayonnaise, lemon juice and 1 tablespoon of the blackened seasoning. Stir to combine and store in the refrigerator until needed.

Preheat a medium-sized sauté pan over medium heat. Use 1 tablespoon of the blackened seasoning to season both sides of all four swordfish steaks. Add 1 tablespoon of oil to the preheated sauté pan. Carefully add the seasoned swordfish steaks to the sauté pan.

Cook swordfish steaks for 2 or 3 minutes on both sides or until they are completely done.

Remove swordfish steaks from pan and let them cool slightly on a paper towel.

Make sliders by evenly layering the tomato, lettuce and onion on each of the four rolls. Place the swordfish steaks on each of the buns and top with the mayonnaise sauce and roll top.

Garnish each of the swordfish sliders with the grape tomatoes on a toothpick and serve.

Princecraft Launches All-New Sport 175

Heather Lougheed Takes the Helm as President of BoatUS Foundation for Boating Safety and Clean Water

Mercury Marine Named 2024 CES Innovation Award Honoree for Avator™ 20e and 35e Electric Outboards

(Nov 15, 2023) — Brunswick Corporation (NYSE: BC), today announced its Mercury Marine division was named a 2024 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) Innovation Award honoree in the Sustainability, Eco-Design & Smart Energy category for the Avator 20e and 35e electric outboards. This is the third CES Innovation Award for Mercury. In 2022, Mercury’s V12 600hp Verado outboard engine won the award in the Vehicle & Transportation category, and in 2021, Mercury’s 1st Mate Marine System technology won in two categories, earning the Best of Innovation designation in the In-Vehicle Entertainment & Safety category and the CES Innovation Award honor in the Vehicle Intelligence & Transportation category.

Captain’sCorner with Captain Sergio Atanes My Christmas Wish I remember the year 1952 when my Uncle Manuel, age 19 arrived from Cuba to live with us until he could go out on his own. This is when my life turned around at the age of 5. He lived with us for about a year until Uncle Sam sent him an invention to join the Army (the draft), but during that short period he taught me how to fish.

Coming from a poor family, both of my parents worked to make ends meet and pay the bills. There was just enough left over each week for me to go the Ritz Theatre on Saturday and not much more, so fishing became my big outlet.

My uncle took me under his wing and started to teach me the basics of fishing he had learned in Cuba, and I caught on quick. Buying a fishing rod and reel with tackle was not in the budget. We took a yoyo (Cuban hand reel) and wrapped kite string around it. Then we used a D size battery as a lead weight and punched a hole through the top of the battery with an ice pick, and tied it to the string with a hook at the end. It wasn’t much, but to a 5 year old it was the best outfit around and I caught fish. In fact, I remember my first fish was a puffer from the shore of the Courtney Campbell Causeway.

That December a friend of ours took us

to Clearwater to visit Howard the Trader, a closeout marine store.

I still remember we paid nine (9) cents for a box of 100 Eagle Claw hooks. There were hundreds of boxes scattered on a big table and we bought at least 4 boxes of different sizes.

Christmas was coming and I could hardly wait, and all I could think about was getting a real fishing rod and reel. I knew deep inside this could not happen, but it didn’t stop me from wishing. I prayed to God please bless my family for Christmas and make sure Santa read my letter I had sent him.

Well, Christmas Day arrived and behold I got a fishing rod, and not just any rod. It was handmade for me from my Uncle Manuel. He made it from a broom stick that he taped one end, sanded it and put guides from an old rod someone had thrown away. To me it was the most beautiful rod I had ever seen. He used a multi colored thread on the guides, and the butt was wrapped in nylon twine and covered with clear varnish with clamps for a reel seat. The reel was a used Ocean City my uncle traded for some mechanical work on a neighbor’s car. One last thing my parents had bought me was the fishing line, a box of

At the time of this writing, the water temperature at Egmont Key was just over 73 degrees but is predicted to drop about 4 degrees over the next 10 days. Most fish species that swim in our region thrive in these temperatures. Mangrove snapper, that have been inside the bays and in the Gulf will begin to move to deeper depths as water temperatures drop.

This is a peak time for Spanish and king mackerel that are in their fall migration from the Panhandle to the Keys. You’ll see plenty of them off the beaches, and some around the mouth of Tampa Bay. Trolling jigs like the 3” CAL Shad in a silver glitter color, silver spoons like the Clark Spoon Squid or Huntington Drone, and Gotcha plugs might be the easiest way to catch these fish. I try to avoid treble-hooked lures for mackerel. Look for signs of diving birds into the water to show you where bait schools are. Find the bait and you’ll find the mackerel.

Spanish mackerel will move well up into the bay and feed on threadfins, pilchards, and shrimp before the schools of bait move offshore. Shrimp remain in the estuary, making them a prime bait for just about all species of resident fish that spend most of their lives here. Channel markers that hold baitfish are excellent places to check not only for Spanish mackerel but also

This might not sound terrific, but for a 5-year-old boy from Ybor City it was my best Christmas gift ever.

Cold fronts will move fish dramatically when there is a radical change in temperature that drops water temps 5 degrees or more. Right now, we are seeing a cold front move through the Tampa Bay area. We’ve had several minor fronts with a little rain, but nothing of much significance. Right now, the factor that’s been affecting fish more than anything else is the dwindling hours of daylight. Snook and redfish are on the move. With plenty of baitfish still around, snook have been hanging around ambush points in the bays.

Good moving water around the week of the full moon will put these fish in these locations, particularly with the outgoing tides in the morning and late afternoon. With each passing front, they will move toward deeper water in creeks, in the darker backcountry waters, and up rivers. Many of the big breeder-sized redfish that are over 36 inches have been around since August but are preparing to move back into the Gulf. I’ll

Angling Adventures: Reminiscing a Memorable Day on the Water

were too short, so we moved to one of our go-to spots.

Hello all! I recently reflected on a memorable day on November 18, 2018, when Tania and I embarked on a fishing trip. It was a cool, crisp morning; however, the seas were bigger than we liked, so we stayed in the river. Please join me as I relive this memorable day with my best friend on the water.

There, Tania caught three short groupers and a bunch of snapper.

I caught one sheepshead (15in), one mangrove snapper (12in), and a bunch of lane snapper, and I lost a giant snook. I was happy to bring home the Sheepshead and the Mangrove Snapper.

Tania and I made it out this morning around 730am. The seas were over 3ft, so we stayed in the Intracoastal.

We hoped the sheepshead would be in since the water temperature dropped to 72 degrees. Our first stop was one of our sheepshead spots.

Tania caught a short snook (16in) and lost something decent; however, this spot could have been more productive, so we moved spots.

Our second spot was difficult to anchor due to the lack of current and the winds. We fished here for about 30 minutes without a bite. At this point, we moved to a third spot. The new spot produced several snapper, but all

I fished the patch reefs in Key Largo the last 2 weekends and had a couple good days of Yellowtail and Mutton Snapper. I fished Flamingo a couple a few days but I was down with a bad back last week.

11-25-23 I was a part of a 5-boat trip, part fishing and part Celebration of Life.

It started out good with a 3 Tarpon, a bunch of Snook, Trout, Jacks, Ladyfish and a bunch of Catfish. All the boats met up at a 11 o’clock

Saturday morning the plan was get up early catch bait and go mutton snapper fishing, well it didn’t work out that way.

The winds were a little stiff for a bay boat offshore that day. We ran into the back country, and it paid off pretty good. Mike had 3 nice Snook before I ever made a cast, all on the “NLBN “Twisted Tea paddle tail. We fished till noon, went home and waited for our sons to show up for an afternoon trip.

It was still bumpy, but we gave it a try.

We did manage a few small fish and something that fought pretty good for a while but broke off. This is a view off sunset off Key Largo on our way in.

On Sunday morning the winds were strong. I was trying to come up with an idea while watching wind blow and drinking my coffee. I said let go fish the Aero Jet Canal which is on the 18-mile stretch. It worked out 20 Peacock Bass 4 Black Bass. My son saw a big Black Bass on the side of the canal. He made a cast and hooked a small Peacock Bass. The big Black Bass came up and ate it after a little fight it came loose but chased the peacock and ate him again.

This was cool that fish was at least 8Lbs. It was 11 am and we were beat and hungry time to go.

I had a great day with jimmy and his son Walker at Flamingo yesterday. I had them throwing the TwistedT and the Purple Mini mullet from NLBN.The Trout, love the purple mullet. The Snook, Redfish, Jacks and Ladyfish don’t leave the paddle tail alone.

The Sheepshead are thriving! They’re swarming around docks, piers, bridges, jetties, and rock piles. The hotspots? Definitely around the pass, where they’re eagerly biting on fiddler crabs and small shrimp pieces. A VESSEL SAFETY CHECK - STUART - Despite numerous COVID-19 restrictions, more and more boaters are taking to the water to alleviate at-home boredom while taking advantage of the open-air benefits and more pandemic-free aspects of recreational boating.

But if you haven’t been out boating in a while, are your vessel’s lights operating properly? Do you have a sufficient number of life jackets for the number of passengers aboard? Is your engine’s ventilation system up to par? To get you started on a new year boating adventure, now may be a perfect time to consider getting a 2022 Vessel Safety Check (VSC) offered by certified VSC examiners from the St. Lucie River Power Squadron, also known as America’s Boating Club of Martin County. These trained VSC examiners from the local squadron will point out safety features such as minimum requirements required by the U.S. Coast Guard, examine fundamental mechanical aspects of your vessel, and answer questions how you can have more fun safely on the water. These are just a few of the many discussion points covered in this voluntary examination. As an added plus, Vessel Safety Checks are free to boat owners. And if you don’t “pass muster” with the thorough examination, the summary report is yours and yours alone. No record of any possible deficiencies will be reported to the USCG, state agency or any other authority.

COAST GUARD AUXILIARY OFFERS VESSEL SAFETY CHECKS AND SAFE BOATING CLASSES - A Vessel Safety Check is a complimentary check of your boat conducted by members of the Auxiliary, confirming that it meets both federal and state requirements for safety. No citations are issued, and the results of the safety check are not reported to any enforcement agency, but a decal is awarded to display when the vessel has passed the examination. The Vessel Safety Check (VSC) is performed at your boat, whether in a slip, at the launch ramp, or in your driveway, by a certified Vessel Examiner, at a mutuallyconvenient time. It usually takes 20-45 minutes, depending on the size of your boat.

FLORIDA BOATER’S ID CARD - Don’t forget that “Anyone born on or after January 1, 1988 is required to either have successfully completed a National Association of State Boating Law Administrators (NASBLA) approved boating education course or have passed a course equivalency or temporary certificate examination and have in their possession a boating education ID card and a photo identification card before operating a vessel with a motor of 10 HP or more in Florida.” Identification cards for persons completing the course or the equivalency exam are good for a lifetime. BOAT AMERICA CLASSES – CLEARWATER, FLORIDA COAST GUARD AUXILIARY - 2023 - The Coast Guard urges recreational boaters, paddlers, anglers, and others to remain safe on the water by taking a Safe Boating Course.

A safe boating class can teach about local boating, the value of wearing a life jacket, and several other life-saving lessons. A boating safety course will teach the basic skills to operate a vessel safely. It includes the diverse types of boats, their capabilities, and how to choose the right boat for a particular maritime activity. Class members will also learn about various safety equipment and how to use them to avoid accidents. Before heading out onto the open water, it’s crucial to know how to read the weather since Florida is known for its sudden changes from lovely calm seas and winds to thunderstorms, torrential rains, and waterspouts. In the boating safety class, students learn methods for staying safe in any condition, including heavy winds, fog, and severe storms. Boating can be an excellent way to enjoy the outdoors and spend time with family and friends. But it’s essential to be aware of the potential dangers. A class will help the boater avoid being a statistic. It teaches how to handle a boat safely and what to do in an emergency. Finally, taking a boating safety course is a wonderful way to learn the rules and regulations, especially those unique to Florida. Novice and experienced boaters or even non-boaters can benefit from a safe boating course – as an initial learning experience or as a refresher. Regardless of experience level, taking a class is always a good idea. To continue offering these classes safely for the students and instructors, they are being offered on Zoom with the same instructors the student would have had in the classroom and allowing lots of questions and answers. Because the classes are on the Internet, there’s no commuting to a classroom – the students can be anywhere in Florida!

It starts at 9:00 am and completes at 5:00 pm. The course includes the USCG exam which, if passed, results in a Florida lifetime boating card/license. New route is more than a mile longer than the usual one. The route will now begin at Cochise Waterway and head south past the Cimarron and Club House Waterways, sailing under the Hammock Dunes Toll Bridge. It will continue past St. Joe Walkway and Waterfront Park before turning around at the Grand Haven gazebo to return to home port. 6-9 p.m.

• POMPANO BEACH | DECEMBER 15 SCHEDULED: Pompano Beach Holiday Boat Parade. Pompano Beach, Lighthouse Point, Deerfield Beach. In its 61st year, the oldest holiday boat parade in the nation. Leaving from Lake Santa Barbara at 6 p.m., the parade heads north, under the Atlantic Boulevard Bridge and 14th Street Causeway all the way to the Hillsboro Boulevard in Deerfield Beach. Public viewing stands at Sullivan Park (1633 Riverview Road, Deerfield Beach) and Alsdorf Park (2901 NE 14th St., Pompano Beach).

• PUNTA GORDA | DECEMBER 23 SCHEDULED: Punta Gorda Boat Parade, Punta Gorda Isles. 6:30 pm. The parade route is within Punta Gorda Isles. Best place to view is from a boat.

While there are no designated public viewing areas on land along the 4.5-mile parade route, there are many viewing areas along Almar Drive. Do not park on the street. Find your spot early and bring chairs.

• SOUTH PASADENA | DECEMBER 8 SCHEDULED: South Pasadena Lighted Boat Parade. Kicks off at 6:30 p.m. on the northeast side of Pasadena Isle just outside Marine Max St. Petersburg, then follows the coastline of South Pasadena, going under the Corey Causeway bridge, then through the inlets near Harbourside Condominiums and Bay Island Condominiums, ending behind Causeway Village and The Fountains. Viewing party at Barbara Gilberg Habitat, 1600 Pasadena Avenue South.

• ST AUGUSTINE | DECEMBER 9 SCHEDULED: St. Augustine Regatta of Lights.

Reflects the maritime heritage of the Oldest City and is in keeping with St. Augustine’s historical seaborne image. Hosted by The St. Augustine Yacht Club.

Sailboats, sport-fishermen, trawlers, shrimp boats, and many other vessels take part. For best viewing, sit along the bayfront seawall between Bridge of Lions and the Castillo de San Marcos. Enjoy the view from many restaurants that face the bay. 6-7:30 pm.

Participating vessels will assemble just south of the Jensen Beach Causeway. Boats will follow the official channel markers ending in the Manatee Pocket and proceeding to the after-party at Fysh Bar & Grill, 4290 SE Salerno Rd, Stuart, FL 34997. Viewing areas include Downtown Stuart and Sandsprit Park.

• TAMPA BAY | DECEMBER 23 SCHEDULED: Tampa Riverwalk Lighted Boat Parade. The parade begins at the southern tip of Davis Island, travels through the Convention Center basin and up to the Heights where the boats will turn around and head to Sparkman Wharf, where judging will occur and the parade will end. Public viewing at Armature Works, Channel Drive, Curtis Hixon, Davis Island, Harbour Island, Sparkman Wharf, Water Works Park. Parking is available at several public parking lots.

• TAMPA - BAY CREST PARK | EST. DECEMBER 9 UNCOMFIRMED: Whether you are a spectator or a skipper don’t miss out! Participating boats and those with decorated docks can win some great prizes.

• TREASURE ISLAND | DECEMBER 16 SCHEDULED: Treasure Island Holiday Boat Parade.

The parade will begin promptly at 6:20 p.m. just south of the Treasure Island Causeway. The route travels south of Paradise Island, back through the Treasure Island Causeway Bridge at 7 p.m., around the Isles of Palms and Capri, and finishes at John’s Pass at approximately 8:15 p.m. Viewing areas at Treasure Island Golf & Tennis Club, along the Treasure Island Causeway Bridge, and at John’s Pass.

• VERO BEACH | EST. DECEMBER 16 SCHEDULED: Indian River County Holiday Boat Parade, Vero Beach. Staging begins at 5:30 p.m., Parade starts at 6 p.m. Staging begins in the Intracoastal Waterway, north of the Merrill P. Barber Bridge.
