ell the nights have drawn in, time to get into the Christmas spirit, time for parties, fairy lights, excited kids and plenty of eating. We have lots of activities in this issue that should keep everybody busy for the whole festive period.
When all the festivities have died down and January sets in, it's a new year full of promise and optimism. We have some help from our wellness writer on how to manage weight gain. We also have some financial advice to help us prosper next year. If we prosper and manage our money well we could go on holiday - safaris are this months topic. Two by Two are going to keep us well dressed and Lakes Legal Ltd is advising us wisely.
If you would like to advertise your business or events, or have something new and interesting happening I would love to hear from you. Contact me anytime using the contact information below.
I would like to thank Lorraine Oates, Powder & Paint Photography for the editors photograph.

Death Without A Will & Joint Property Ownership property with another person you can select one of two ways in which to own your property.
You can own it as Joint Tenants; by which each of you own 100% of the property and on the death of one of you the survivor automatically becomes entitled to the whole property.
Q

uite often I am told that potential clients “do not need wills because when they die everything will pass to their partner”- an assumption that is quite often incorrect.
If you die without leaving a will you are referred to as having died intestate. This means you have left no instructions about how you would like your assets to be distributed following your death.
In the absence of you leaving your specific instructions, your estate will be administered and distributed in accordance with the “Intestacy Rules”. Depending upon your specific family circumstances this may not be the way in which you would like your assets to be distributed.
If you and your partner are un-married or if you are yet to enter a Civil Partnership and you die without leaving a will; your partner will receive nothing under the current intestacy rules. Similarly; even if you are married or part of a Civil Partnership, your husband, wife or civil partner will not automatically be entitled to the entirety of your estate on your death if you do not leave a will.
This is true even of your home. When purchasing
Alternatively you can own the property as Tenants in Common; by which each of you own a certain percentage of the property. This method of ownership means that on the death of any of the property owners their chosen beneficiaries can inherit their share. Their chosen beneficiaries may not necessarily be the person or persons who own the other shares of the property. So you see, like most things, deciding what happens to your assets after you have died is not as straightforward as you might think. Lakes Legal Limited offers a comprehensive Fixed-Fee will writing service so you know exactly how much it is going to cost you from the very beginning; No hidden costs and No VAT! Single Wills £75.00 and Couples Wills £125.00

Safaris I
promised I'd talk to you about safaris this month, and I'm lucky enough to be sharing my own personal holiday experience with you having just returned from a 3 night safari in South Africa, a joint wedding anniversary and special birthday celebration.
3 days might seem like a long way to go to South Africa and admittedly, most guests were including their safari as part of a bigger trip, enjoying a variety of what the country, and surrounding Mozambique, Namibia and Botswana have to offer. There are a variety of countries to enjoy a safari. I stayed at Kruger National Park, home to the Big 5, Buffalo, Rhino, Lion, Leopard and Elephants, but a huge number of animals in their natural habitat. I stayed at a 5 star private Concession located in the South of Kruger Park. To wake on our private deck and find rhinos grazing in front of our room was one of many highlights.
In three nights, we were up at 5 each morning and out again at 4pm to experience game drives. All drives, food and drinks were included.

The viewing, the sounds, the food, the memories, all make this one of my top 5 holidays everyone should experience and if you want to talk about your plans to do a safari, or another Winter getaway, please don't hesitate to give me a call.
Finally, traditionally January is the busiest time of year for booking holidays, so if you have any idea of your holiday plans for 2013, why not BEAT THE RUSH and get in touch with me in December, that way I can work on researching it for you while you concentrate on planning for Christmas. I wish you all an enjoyable festive season with your family and friends...

GREAT ACTIVITY FOR KIDS AND ADULTS
ADULT KARTING
We offer various packages which range from Practise Sessions (30 min Practise), to Challenger Races (4-10 people) where every race has a 10 minute qualifying where they race themselves and the clock, to try and set the quickest lap time. The group is then set on the grid depending on how they come in qualifying , Grand Prix (10-19 racers), a Grand Prix is one of two "heat" based events we offer. Each driver takes part in five heats of eight laps, in which they race for pole position. Super Le Mans - This race is great for stag/birthday parties and team building as it is a more competitive Grand Prix style race. Drivers interested in a heat based event but still want a hugely competitive race are most likely to pick a SLM. Finally Team Endurance, a team based racing event for groups over 10, the group is split into teams of either 2, 3, 4 people depending on how many are in the group and how long you are wanting to race for. Teams and team names are decided amongst the group. Team endurances can be spread across a one hour, one and a half hour or two hour race. The teams are awarded positions depending on how many laps they complete in that time. Teams are required to pit and changeover drivers but the decision of when is up to the team captain. Trophies are awarded to the top three teams.
CHILDRENS KARTING
As part of our aim at Cumbria Karting is to provide a fantastic experience at a relatively low cost, we take safety very seriously. With this in mind, we do a compulsory driving licence for all children aged 6 - 13. This includes an in-depth safety briefing with a trained marshal and 30 minutes on the track supervised with controlled incidents and being tested on flag rules. On completion, a credit card style driving licence is issued to eliminate future briefings. Driving Licence 30 minutes on the track supervised with controlled incidents and being tested on flag rules Children aged 6-13 ÂŁ20 per child

A week in the life of a fashion historian….

“It seems to be true that fashion follows the law of nature by moving in a cyclical pattern. Many a ‘new’ mode is merely the revival or adaptation of a forgotten one” Genevieve Antoine Dariaux Do you get a feeling of déjà vu when you see that flares are back in fashion? Or wonder if you can do shoulder pads a second time around….and were they even a good idea the first time? Thanks to the repetitious nature of fashion we have a chance to find out. Fashion Historian, James Laver was intrigued with the pattern of recurring fashions and proposed a whole fashion and style life cycle, in his book Taste and Fashion in 1937. Through the 20th century Laver’s Law has been useful in explaining how style and tastes evolve through time and continually reinvent themselves. Laver helps us to see how fashion trends are continually recycled, not necessarily because designers can’t come up with something new but because our yearning for something new is entangled with our longing for the distant past. However as we forge forward into the 21st century we seem determined not to leave any of the past behind us and

currently, it seems the world of fashion is embracing every decade. When it comes to style in 2012 you can enter the fashion time warp and get out at any given year. Over the last five years we have become fascinated with all things vintage and the catwalks have been populated by the flares of 70’s, the miniskirts of the 60’s, the swing dresses of the 50’s, the make do and mend of the 40’s, the boyfriend style of the 30’s, the flapper dresses of the 20’s and the elegance of what came before that. This curiosity for historical fashions and vintage style could be part of a romantic longing for things that are made to last and a general distaste for throwaway fashion. Whatever the reason it appears that history is coming with us into the future and in the 21st century, fashion can indeed be timeless

1. Monday: Relive the 1970’s with metallic fabrics, sequins and your best disco moves.
2. Tuesday: The triangular swing dress or trapeze dress was a 1950’s staple. These Trollied Dolly dresses are perfect. Alternatively, you could adopt the 1940’s make do and mend mind set and run yourself one up on the machine! 3.Wednesday: Remember the 1930’s and the emergence of androgynous style. Borrow from the boys and go for masculine tailoring…..attitude required.
4.Thursday:Wear pencil skirts and cloche hats, practice your comedy poses and you can bring back the 1920’s 5. Friday: Travel back to the turn of the 20th Century and enjoy the elegance of the Edwardian era. Wear velvet and pearls and tunics over longer skirts or trousers.

The Rotary Club of Furness Peninsula Dress to impress THE PROMS
PROM–goers next year will have a greater selection of dresses thanks to the Rotary Club of Furness Peninsula.
In an innovative step the club is holding a fair to help local girls turn their dresses into cash, and allow others to collect an elegant and stunning item for their forthcoming Prom, at a saving on the retail cost. Rotarian Angela Fryer said ‘It’s a shame some beautiful dresses are only worn once. The fair aims to give girls a wide selection, help them with their budget, whilst raising funds for sellers and charities supported by Rotary.’ The fair will be held on
Sunday 20th January from 11 until 4 at the Deemon Dance Studio County Coachbuilders Park Road Barrow,
and will include also stands from local hair and beauty salons, and an alterations specialist will be on hand. Refreshments are available and there will be a prize draw. Sellers are encouraged to pre-register their dresses by telephoning the Rotary Club of Furness Peninsula on 07716 864 340, and will pay a 10% commission to Rotary on the sale price of their dresses. Nothing is payable unless the dress sells. Buyers need to pay cash and can take away their dresses there and then www.facebook.com/thepinfold

My daily plan
2013 WILL
IT BE DIFFERENT
?
As 2012 comes to an end I’d like to invite YOU to be the best you’ve ever been in 2013
This year I want to give you all my best advice and help you all get the results you want in 2013
Did you know people spend more time planning their holiday and their Christmas dinner than they do their health, life and future success!!!
So why not start today and make a plan to succeed, we would like to help you to do this with gentle reminders, tips and advice on how to make this year different.
Lets start by asking what do you want to achieve?
I'm going to assume that you want to be healthy - yes? You want to be fitter - yes? You want to be more successful - yes? Want to be happy/contented - yes?
So let’s make it easy for you, your energy, focus, outward appearance and health are all determined by the nutrition (food) you eat - FACT - so a good place to start I think.
What you choose to eat will be determined by your attitude, so how and what you think is important, right?
What you think is determined by your knowledge, surroundings, people you spend time with and the media that you are exposed to -advertising!
Let’s set some goals, make a plan, have some simple actions that you can easily carry out, to help you achieve this and get you thinking that you can, by educating you and introducing you to some new people and places that are doing what you are doing. Being different and changing who they are.
What can you do today whilst all of the other things, which take time by the way, start to happen?
Wake up (slowly) - listening to a meditation or inspirational tape to help me focus on what it is I want to do today.
Breakfast - well I always want to have energy and be healthy so for me it is a Herbalife healthy breakfast program - shake, vitamins, herb and fibre.
30 minutes exercise at some point every day, this could be walking the dogs, Wi fit or a class, whatever you enjoy - this year this is a must do!
Lunch Well for the next few weeks I want to lose a little body fat and I am very busy so I will be having another shake, vitamins, herb and fibre and drinking lots of the fat burning beverage, with a protein snack some time during the morning. Then choose a healthy evening meal Mixed bean salad
Mexican Quorn chicken wraps 4oz quorn / 1 chicken breast per person, thinly sliced and sautéed with 150gms onions, mushrooms, peppers, carrots with fajita seasoning
Served in large iceberg lettuce leaves, with 2 tbsn low fat soya natural yoghurt and fresh tomato salsa.
Quorn mince bolognaise With tomato passatte, onion, garlic, herbs and mixed spice Brown or green lentils Served on bed of courgettes (200g) Spinach, tomato and onion frittata Served with mixed green salad and balsamic vinegar
Medium sized baked sweet potato with low fat cottage cheese
Beetroot with spinach and rocket salad with balsamic vinegar dressing Smoked mackerel or goats cheese log salad
Mixed lettuce leaves, tomatoes, cucumber, peppers, spring onion, boiled egg
Herbalife is fast, easy, convenient and safe, giving you all the nutrition you need to achieve all of your goals, used by Olympic athletes, weekend warriors and busy people who just want more from life, a perfect nutrition solution to help you. Linda 015395 60313.
