What has been your biggest challenge/failure as an entrepreneur? And how do you deal with it?

My biggest challenge as an entrepreneur has been gaining exposure and building 3 platforms at the same time I'm self-taught and I'm the product for my business Building a talk show can be challenging sometimes Especially because I'm my toughest critic Out of my friends, I'm the only one that chose to pursue a talk show career They don't know much about it so I have to make sure I learn everything I can on my own When I need direction I meditate and ask God to guide my footsteps Which lead me to become an affiliate of Renew You Body Butters When you ' re just starting a business, not many people will support you and you have to do a lot of things on your own

When I met Kayshaun Brooks the owner of Renew You Body Butters, we spoke and I discovered we had so much in common I told her I was just star build my platform and without any he chance on me This opportunity has hel everyone isn ’ t caught up in wanting yo amount of followers or customers be you That is why I love being a part of She comes up with new ideas and diff keep the affiliates encourage

I deal with the challenges by not focu only focusing on where I am going attention to the numbers and started will align me with the people I need overall mission

How do you balance entrepreneurship and Motherhood without experiencing burnout while pursuing your passion?

I N T E R V I E W 0 8

I balance being an entrepreneur and a mother by meditating, giving myself a break, and lots of selfcare Meditating keeps me super balanced and focused because I am recharged Before I start each day I set my intentions of what I want to accomplish specifically for the day My daughter is an entrepreneur as well I believe that helps as well because she understands the process We also include one another in our process

What advice do you have for moms looking to get started In entrepreneurship?

The advice I have for mothers would be to do what makes your heart sing If you aren't able to see yourself doing it long term then don't even start It takes dedication and some days will be harder than others but keep going it will get better Make a schedule for the time you will spend working on your business and time with your family and friends Remember everything has to have a balance

What does being a Pretty Woman Who Hustles mean to you?

YOLONDA ANDRADE

Yolonda Andrade is a Dallas, Texas native who is married with 5 boys Her heart is huge for others and filled with passion for her family, friends, and clients It only came natural for Yolonda to want to be in a field where she could be a positive impact on people It was in 2018, when Yolonda decided to find her calling by becoming a licensed massage therapist 2 years after graduating from massage school, Yolonda decided to take a leap of faith and open her business at Yolonda’s Swedish Touch where she specializes in Swedish massage At Yolonda’s Swedish Touch, it is Yolonda’s goal to make sure that each client has their own unique and customized experience during their session by using holistic techniques to relieve any muscle aches, discomfort, or any signs of stress

In January 2022, Yolonda became a part of Candace Holyfield’s Spa Boss Tribe While attending Sunday classes, Candace referred her members to Kayshaun Brooks to become an Affiliate Member of Renew You Body Butters Kayshauns brand immediately caught her eye because she had just started to explore the idea of adding products to bring expansion to her business and found Kayshaun’s organic skincare products to be exactly what she was looking for In March of 2022, Yolonda decided to purchase the products to try them out for herself before deciding to sell them to her clients

W H O I S Y O L O N D A

What inspired your start in entrepreneurship?

Honestly, my children were my inspiration to venture out and start my own business in massage therapy I spent a huge majority of time being a stay at home mom because I did not want to miss out on my children's early stages of life; their school events, their accomplishments, etc I always knew that I wanted to be present for every thing my boys did and I knew that working a 9 to 5 could not give me that flexibility I also wanted to be a great role model for my boys to look up to by showing them you can turn your dreams into a reality, no matter what that may be I want to make sure that when I am gone, that I will be able to leave something for all 5 of my boys to pass down for the next generation

What has been your biggest challenge/failure as an entrepreneur? And how do you deal with it?

My biggest challenge as an entrepreneur has definitely been trying to balance running a business, being a parent, a wife, keeping up with the chores, running errands, and doing it all fulltime I think that my biggest failure as an entrepreneur has been neglecting my own wellbeing at times When you are as busy as I am, it can be very difficult to prioritize self-care I do practice self care, but know that I definitely could use more of it The way that I deal with my challenges is simply through prayers and meditation Really As long as I keep a positive mindset no matter the circumstances, I am able to get through anything

How do you balance entrepreneurship and Motherhood without experiencing burnout while pursuing your passion?

Again, prayer and meditation I also find that waking up an hour early before everyone else really helps me to take some time to myself to just be in peace and quiet and sit in my positive thoughts to set my intentions and tone for the entire day Sometimes taking a personal day really helps me to avoid burnout as well

What advice do you have for moms looking to get started In entrepreneurship?

Do it As moms, we already are equipped to multitask and so it is only natural to us to be able to take on such a challenging, yet rewarding responsibility; very similar to motherhood

What does being a Pretty Woman Who Hustles mean to you?

I think that a pretty woman who hustles is an intelligent, ambitious, strong woman who is willing to work hard to reach her goals No matter the circumstances, her mindset stays laser focused, positive, and inspired by a healthy environment that surrounds her with a strong support system and values This is a woman who is not afraid to take on a challenge knowing that she is going to run into some obstacles, but does not let it stop her from her true calling and her passion

What books do you recommend for moms navigating entrepreneurship?

I recommend “Traction” by Dave Sullivan I was introduced to reading this book last year by Candace Holyfield when I joined her Facebook group and became a part of her Spa Boss Tribe I was truly motivated and inspired by reading this book and I think that this is a wonderful start for ladies that are just stepping into their journey of becoming an entrepreneur

It was actually through Candace Holyfield’s Facebook group that I learned about Renew You Body Butter Candace mentioned the brand several times and stood by Kayshaun’s organic skincare products The fact that it was all natural ingredients stood out to me and piqued my interest to further my research into Renew You Body Butters After reading about Kayshaun’s journey and checking out her website, I ordered her products to see if they were as effective as we were being told in the group They absolutely were My son suffered from eczema just like Kayshaun’s son so I loved the similarity with her story I also loved how my skin felt after using her daily routine regimen It was a no-brainer for me to join her Affiliate Program I knew this product was something that I wanted to share with others who were going through some of the same skin conditions I couldn’t wait to put the products in my office suite and tell my clients all about it In March of 2022, I became the 49th Affiliate of Renew You Body Butters and haven’t looked back since The products are now a part of me and my family’s daily/nightly routine I love the simplicity of the products and how the natural ingredients are blended in with just the right amount of healing for our skin I am truly thankful and honored to be a part of Kayshaun Brooks’s brand

W H O I S C I C E L Y

Ms Abron is a servant leader that continues to make an impact in our community She is a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc and a board member of Girls Scouts of Georgia She is also a dedicated member at Gaines Chapel AME Church and is the proud mother of three kids: Mkiyah, Ciniyah, and Trent

What inspired your start in entrepreneurship?

In 2013, I wanted to make an impact on the lives of children in our community Being an educator, for 20 years, I was able to see the challenges of our children and the focus to help them become successful It has never been about money but merely being a servant leader to help make a positive impact in the community

What has been your biggest challenge/failure as an entrepreneur? And how do you deal with it?

The biggest challenge that I have encountered is not having enough volunteers to encompass my vision I dream big and have big expectations as it relates to allowing more opportunities for our youth

How do you balance entrepreneurship and Motherhood without experiencing burnout while pursuing your passion?

In the beginning, I was very burned out because I was not balanced with having three active kids in school activities, sports, church and so much more Honestly, the pandemic slowed me down It allowed me to create a balanced schedule by creating a calendar and learning to say “NO” to some projects I have 5 organizations and give each one a day or week Basically, I use strategic planning to help my business become successful and put in mommy time daily

What advice do you have for moms looking to get started In entrepreneurship?

Create a balance in the beginning and prioritize your goals Family is always first and learn to say “NO” if it ’ s going to interfere with your kids I’ve learned that you can ’ t get that time back so make many memories now If your job is 8 to 4, then your kids deserve the rest of your day

What does being a Pretty Woman Who Hustles mean to you?

A woman who works hard and is committed to the goal of taking her business, kids, community, family, etc A woman who makes sure she is inspiring, encouraging, and has a walk of integrity Pretty to me is what’s on the inside! It’s important to be that Proverbs 31 Virtuous Woman, “she openeth her mouth with wisdom; and in her tongue is the law of kindness She looketh well to the ways of her household, and eateth not the bread of idleness Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her Many daughters have done virtuously, but thou excellest them all Favor is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the Lord, she shall be praised Give her the fruit of her hands, and let her own works praise her in the gates ”

What inspired your start in entrepreneurship?

I have been an entrepreneur since 3rd grade I had a general store called the N&N store, where we sold cards and candy I was a partner lol

What has been your biggest challenge/failure as an entrepreneur? And how do you deal with it?

The biggest challenge for me has been comparison to others and their business and not seeing enough value in my intellectual property as well as services In layman's terms "Overthinking" I've started to trust God, myself, and the process As long as I have pure intentions and do the work, everything will fall into place

How do you balance entrepreneurship and Motherhood without experiencing burnout while pursuing your passion?

I believe since age five, I have been doing it so long, that I just built the baby into the business, lol I don't really think about burnout but I also am learning to focus a lot more on self-care and balance It also helps that one of my main businesses is built around and for the baby

What advice do have for moms looking to get started In entrepreneurship? Make and plan and then go for it DO NOT LISTEN TO SOCIAL MEDIA and DO NOT QUIT YOUR 9-5(initially or at all if you don't need You cannot fully work in your craft while worrying about where or how you ' re going to pay your bills Before I was laid off, my 9-5 was what I used to fund my businesses and I loved it It was extra, so why not

W H O I S N I C O L E

I am now realizing that it was hindering me in a form of complacency but that literally just happened You have to move and plan based on your personal situation, not anyone else's It is very rare to get rich overnight Things will not always be pretty but it will always be worth it Also, do not try to "free" your way to everything You need to invest in your self-development and business if you want someone to spend money with you The universe reciprocates activity You can't charge me top dollar (or any dollar) if you have not invested to make your business legitimate (whatever that looks like)

What does being a Pretty Woman Who Hustles mean to you?

A PWWH to me, means that you are not losing yourself while you ' re hustling and getting your business together You know what you have to do and you remain "pretty" while doing it no matter how "ugly" the situation is

What inspired your start in entrepreneurship?

There were a few events that encouraged me to become an entrepreneur, but the one that stood out the most was turning my pain into purpose What I mean by that, I lost everything that mattered to me at that time I needed time off to handle my personal business, but I would have to be pre-approved for vacation time My employer was not empathetic at all Also, my father had a terrible motor vehicle accident, and he was forced to retire a few years early After working for one company for 38 consecutive years, they did not want to honor his retirement We had to fight them for his money At that point, I knew I wanted to be in charge of my own destiny

The only reason I didn't burn out was because I actually took time for myself The metaphor " Hard work pays off" actually meant working smarter for me I would work 6-7 hours per day Monday through Friday, giving myself the weekend off to actually spend quality time with my children I squeezed those hours whenever I could, as long as I stuck to my 6-7 hours

What advice do you have for moms looking to get started In entrepreneurship? My advice for any mother wanting to be an entrepreneur is this, " Work diligently with your business but give yourself patience and grace Success comes with time and experience

What does being a Pretty Woman Who Hustles mean to you? A pretty woman who hustles means to me; someone who is fierce inside and outside She knows whom and who she is, as well as what she wants She makes BOSS moves, building her own success story or legacy

What books do you recommend for moms navigating entrepreneurship? Wow, this could be tough because I have read a lot of books There were two that affected me and helped me change the way I perceived certain things The two were RICH DAD\POOR DAD and THE MAGIC OF THINKING BIG

What inspired your start in entrepreneurship?

My parents are both entrepreneurs My dad, most especially, has ingrained an entrepreneurial mindset in me, while my mom emphasized the importance of people in the process of business They were both very supportive in the pursuit of their children's interests, dreams, and ambitions They have also provided several opportunities for us to practice business sense while still young I officially launched my multimedia arts business in 2003 even before graduating college Now in the US, after 5 years of teaching as a certified teacher, I officially launched my business within the education industry in October 2022

What has been your biggest challenge/failure as an entrepreneur? And how do you deal with it?

After a year of doing business on my own, my company catering to multimedia arts freelancers has grown and transitioned into a corporation After another 3 years, the corporation experienced a split at board level The split caused a division in clientele as well I decided to dissolve the partnerships and form affiliates instead with those that were interested to continue with the company This innovation in structure proved fruitful as the company grew in both client numbers AND in affiliate partners in the industry for another 5 years

How do you balance entrepreneurship and Motherhood without experiencing burnout while pursuing your passion?

Having priorities is important, and my family is my priority I officially closed my multimedia arts company when I started a family While raising my son, I worked as a full time consultant for various clients local and abroad in the fields of multimedia, social media, tech, and creative writing As my clients grew, I hired staff to delegate tasks and eventually birthed a grass-roots business catering to virtual assistants in 2012 Aside from having priorities, time management is also important - learning my family's rhythm and creating a routine around it was helpful in making sure that all needs of both family and business were met As my top priority merged with management when I decided to take ownership of my son ' s education This merger brought about the perfect balance between entrepreneurship and motherhood, as well as with the pursuit of my passions to travel, teach, and write -- School in a Backpack, which officially launched in 2015, is all about experiential learning and character education, allowing students to remain curious, keep exploring, and encouraging experiencing life to the fullest by having Courage 1st

What inspired your start in entrepreneurship?

I’ve always wanted to be an entrepreneur I remember visiting the only Black-owned grocery store in my hometown of Fairfield, AL as a little girl almost every day and wondering how I too could own my own business

I started my company, PR Solutions, in college It began as a freelance public relations service and I worked as a copywriter for a Black-owned newspaper in Tuscaloosa, AL It was the start of my mission to be my own boss and help others build successful business ventures

What has been your biggest challenge/failure as an entrepreneur? And how do you deal with it?

Learning to know my worth was my biggest challenge One of the toughest jobs a new business owner has to do is to determine the cost of their time, expertise, and intellectual property When you are hired to do a job, your collective business knowledge is what the client wants to tap into If you don’t know your worth you will undervalue yourself and your service and the client will know In other words, it ’ s important to price your time and service correctly This took years for me to master I, like many other small business owners, offered discounted rates to satisfy the client We must learn to value ourselves correctly and to move on if the client doesnt understand or appreciate what we bring to the table

How do you balance entrepreneurship and Motherhood without experiencing burnout while pursuing your passion?

I don’t pursue Work-Life Balance Men are never asked about this but women are expected to have an acceptable formula for making everyone happy Instead, I focus on providing my family with an honest assessment of how I will need to use my time to be successful and then I ask for their support

P W H M A G A Z I N E

Too often, projects will require late nights and travel So I taught my teenage son how to cook and wash his clothes and my husband and I communicate about everything Hes my protector and he gives me the space to go after my dreams

What advice do have for moms looking to get started In entrepreneurship?

Just do it More women of color are starting businesses now than ever before This is your time, go for it Don’t second-guess yourself Do your research, take the necessary classes, network then get it done

What does being a Pretty Woman Who Hustles mean to you?

My hustle is to live my life with integrity and pride I believe all women are beautiful, the challenge is making sure we all exemplify beauty in how we live, work, and play This opportunity to be in your magazine is a reflection of my desire to stay connected to other women working hard to experience the fullness of life

owning a boutique in itself is difficult I thought I would make a lot of money That was the biggest myth Starting a new brand takes time and is not overnight A lot of sweat, blood and tears I thought my family would support Definitely a myth It takes time and perseverance so the namesake Eula Mae’s after my mother is my guiding force to be persistent and be consistent Many things happen in entrepreneurship and if you are in it for the money and thinking overnight success then you are doing it for the wrong reason Your why definitely must be bigger than who and what

How do you balance entrepreneurship and Motherhood without experiencing burnout while pursuing your passion?

W H O I S L A T A R A

Sometimes I DONT There are times when I literally CAN’T work with NO option BUT take care of the issues at hand My daughter is my biggest cheerleader witnessing me working several jobs she has watched me work with children, raise her, start a boutique, RUN A Boutique and get my realtor license all while being a single mother She learned perseverance and never settling I have told her that she is my reckoning force to never give up because one day my hard work will pay off It is paying off Watching my daughter graduate from high school and complete her freshman year in college at LSU We focus on purpose not pain It’s not always where you come from its what's in you and how bad you want it

What advice do have for moms looking to get started In entrepreneurship?

My advice to any mom is to NEVER settle Change your perspective positive outlook , pray and ask for guidance Change your environment if it is not conducive to your destination Failure is motivation not an EXCUSE Living your purpose is bigger than you because you have someone watching you Use pain as your strength and God as your guide

What does being a Pretty Woman Who Hustles mean to you?

A pretty woman that hustles is a CEO, chase every opportunity Success cant be all about achievements or level of career success The real flex is when you can still operate with integrity and kindness, not becoming hardened and bitter by the process It’s when you need no validation and you can just BE Its when you need no hypeman or introduction because life is not a show, but an experience It’s when you dont have to compete, because in your heart and soul you know the only battle is the fight to achieve your higher self Every day I choose happiness, freedom, redemption, humility and gratitude I choose faith over fear, and GOD over ALL

What books do you recommend for moms navigating entrepreneurship?

-The most powerful woman in the room is you
