Every month, Adam O’Neill brings us all the celeb gossip from 105 Capital FM HQ. He’s on Capital across Yorkshire every afternoon between 4-7pm! Hot girl group The Saturdays are a regular feature in the charts with their heels and pop hitting all the right notes. With one baby, two babies on the way, two marriages and one engagement, the girls are growing up! Adam caught up with them to see what’s been happening.
Adam: Can I just firstly say a massive high five on your first ever Number 1, with ‘What About Us’!
Molly: Thank you - it means
so much to us, we’re very, very excited about it.
Adam: It’s an absolute tune as
well, it’s been my Saturday night anthem for quite a long time now!
Vanessa: Have you been
getting your moves on to it?
Adam: Oh yeah, I know a lot of the moves from the video. I like to give it some Sean Paul!
Frankie: I’m not sure that
you’ve got the moves Adam…
Adam: That’s a bit vicious!
I used to like you Frankie! (Laughs) Is it nice being back in the UK for a bit? Because you’ve been in America for, like, ever!
Molly: Yeah it’s amazing, it’s so
nice being back for a bit. We are home girls you know, we love the sun, but after a little while we were like, ‘Aww, I can’t wait to put my big coat back home!’.
Adam: What’s it been like
Frankie: Totally! Why do you
Vanessa: It was really weird at first, but we got used to it really quickly, which is a good and bad. You end up not being sure what everybody’s going to see because we forgot very quickly the cameras were there.
Molly: If Una whips out a picture of Aoife we’re like, ‘Oh, she’s so adorable’. You should see us, it’s like five girls just oohing and awwing over a baby.
Frankie: We had some big

cringe moments watching the show back!
Adam: I was thinking that!
There’s loads of stuff I do at home that I wouldn’t want anyone else to see, like getting ready to go out and having private fashion shows strutting up and down my bedroom, giving it some Britney moves! (Laughs)
think we’ve ditched them today! No, I’m joking. We all get so into it, we’re all loving having another Saturdays baby to be aunties to!
one, think of the sponsorship deals you could get! Saturdays babygrows, bottles, dummies!
Frankie: (Laughs) If you want

Adam: You’ve got your new
Molly: I love Britney, but - oh
album coming out soon and some live dates this summer - I’m going to come and see you at Donny Racecourse on Sat 18th May.
Adam: Una’s got her baby and

dear!
Rochelle’s about to burst. Are they both like a constant ‘Mum’s Club’ giving it, ‘Ooh, look at the baby stuff! It’s so nice, let’s buy some talcum powder!’?
Molly: Donny? Who calls it Adam: I call it Donny! – Doncaster Racecourse!
Frankie: Right, well we’ll see you at Donny!

The true heart of the city has to be the city centre. Spanning the likes of Fargate, West Street and Division Street, the centre is the place where you can find anything and everything you want. Since the Steel City is so heavily populated by us students, the city centre caters to the needs of students with great flair, offering discounts in almost every outlet along with more drinks offers than is humanly possible to handle. At first glance the centre can seem overwhelming, with its erratic style and confusing road system. But if you spend enough time hanging around the centre streets you’ll end up knowing the place like the back of your hand. Failing that, The Student Magazine can always just spell it out for you. Here’s our technological guide to Sheffield city centre – with the help of our circuit board map!
History
Often referred to as a town, Sheffield city centre may seem small in size, but this is deceptive. The city is actually the fourth largest in the UK, but unlike many of the other major cities, the population and outlets are scattered, meaning that rather than having one massive centre Sheffield has clusters which are almost like villages in themselves, along with a semi-large centre. The centre itself, though, is nothing to be sniffed at, with a lively nightlife, an array of shops and cultural activities.
American Candy
The Nightlife
The nightlife in the city centre is arguably the best in the city. There are a great number of bars tailored purely to the student market, and with every place competing with the next this means there are always great offers and student discounts. A great pre-drinking destination is always West Street Live where you can get a lethal drink concoction for as little as a pound; ideal for students living on a budget but still wanting to have a good night out! On to the clubs where you can find anything from cheesy pop at Babylon to up-to-date tunes at Viper Rooms, the city centre really is a made by its buzzing nightlife.
One of the best things about the city centre is the fact that you only need to walk down the streets of the Steel City to buy yourself some deliciously sweet American candy. Down Chapel Walk there is a shop which stocks some of the best American and international goodies you can imagine. From the bittersweet Hershey Chocolate to delicious Milk Duds and even Germany’s favourite chocolate Milka, American Soul satisfies all your sugary needs. The store also has a range of super sweet cereals and the unhealthiest of breakfast snacks such as Pop Tarts!
The Cathedral Church
Church Street, Sheffield, S1 1HA www.sheffieldcathedral.org A thing of architectural elegance, Sheffield’s Cathedral Church is a sight to behold. Towering over its surrounding buildings the beautifully designed piece of the city is much more than meets the eye. Situated on Church Street, the building is the beating pulse of the cultural side of the steel city. The Cathedral is also host to Creative Edge; an exciting project that champions inclusion and community within Sheffield City centre through the use of the creative arts. A number of cultural, arts and music events throughout the year are held along with workshops which focus on breaking boundaries between different communities in the city - everyone from asylum seekers, to the homeless, to young professionals, old professionals and everyone in between! The range of workshops is wide including photography, film making, African dance,
drumming or creative writing. Last January Creative Edge held a showcase event, where there was an exhibition of all the art work that had been produced, a performance by the guitar playing and song writing group, and the video by the film making group was shown. That was phase one for Creative Edge; phase two is underway and will also end with a showcase, this time in July correlating with Tramlines Festival. This showcase will also incorporate a People’s Choir, African Dance and Drumming Fusion and a couple of others as well into the mix and should be a fantastic show! Whether you come for traditional worship reasons or to take a peek at some of the cultural entertaining events the Cathedral is a great space in which to spend any day.
BB’s Restaurant

Emmaus Sheffield
Unit 5, Sipelia Works, Cadman Street, S4 7ZG 0114 272 0677 emmaus-sheffield.org.uk If you’re looking for some great vintage pieces without the huge price tag, then there’s a hidden gem of the Steel City that you may have, as yet, neglected. The Community Shop at Emmaus Sheffield, a charity helping formally homeless people to become self-sufficient through social enterprise, is the place to go to pick up exactly what you need at a great price. With everything from recycled household goods to records, to electrical goods and even bicycles, the Community Shop, on Cadman Street, is packed with bargains. The latest addition to this unique shop, coming
under the very elegant name “La Boutique”, is the new retro and vintage clothing section where you can pick up everything from stylish dresses to walking boots, at a mere pinch of the original price. This is the first charity of its kind in South Yorkshire and works to help people regain a sense of pride and dignity through a working community, providing services ranging from the Community Shop to garden and grounds maintenance and PAT appliance testing. The charity boasts the apt line, “The charity that works!”, and it really does.

Interview | Kirk Norcross
Kirk Nor c ross Interview After rising to fame in ITV2’s The Only Way Is Essex, Kirk Norcross went from running a club night at Brentwood’s Sugar Hut to appearing in Celebrity Big Brother (and earning a bit of a reputation as an unstoppable ladies man!). However, Kirk insists that there’s more behind the cheeky chappy, and to finally get his point across, he released his autobiography, ‘Essex Boy’, in April. His book tour kicked off at Meadowhall, so we popped down for a chat and an insight into the true life of Kirk Norcross.
Firstly, why did you decide to write an autobiography?
I’ve done so many TV programmes but they’re not letting me show the real me. I’ve been trying to bring up my past and stuff like that and I think it might be a bit too dark for TV. So I thought, ‘You know what? I’m just going to write a book and hold nothing back.’ Because everyone thinks I’m some little rich kid, just had money all my life, been best mates with my dad since I was a kid, but far from it. I only became friends with my dad when I was 18. I used to live in hostels, I used to get involved with crime, stuff like that, and I thought, ‘Let’s show people the real me’, and now while they’re bad mouthing they’re allowed to, because they know the real me.
I’ve read the synopsis of your book and I didn’t realise you’d had such a hard childhood!
Yeah, but I’m not the only one that had lived that life. That was very common around my area, we lived in a bad area, so it’s me telling the story of everyone. Obviously to get my point across, but really it’s everyone where I
grew up, saying, ‘This is what happens on the other side of Essex.
Do you blame your dad for leaving you, meaning you had to move into a hostel?
I did blame my dad a little bit until I started writing my book, then I’ve realised you’ve got to make sacrifices now and then, and he had to. There’s no point in being in relationships if you’re not in love, and I did resent him for pretty much most of my life but he’s changed a lot now to be a nice person, doing what is best for us. So he’s a man to me; I’ve got nothing but respect for him.
Did your mum have any objections to you rebuilding a relationship with your dad? No, she was very proud because she knew I needed a dad in my life. I was very misled as a kid, and every kid needs a dad. I had my mum, I haven’t got a clue about football or any manly stuff like that, I can bake a cake like you wouldn’t believe, but I needed a dad around me. When I started to become friends with my dad again, my mum was so
proud that I got there, and I got my dad back.
How did you get involved with TOWIE?
I just got a random phone call saying, ‘Hi, this is so and so from this TV company and we’ve heard that you run a club at Sugar Hut, can we have a meeting with you?’. Had a meeting, done a show, it was quick as that. A week after having a phone call with them, we were having a photo shoot for OK Mag. It was absolutely crazy.
Are you glad you got involved with TOWIE?
I am glad that I got involved with TOWIE. It’s helped me with this book, it’s got me doing anything I want in life now, it’s given me that platform to go.
Has it helped business in Essex and with Sugar Hut?
100%. I think it raised tourism in Essex 30%.
You’ve played out some relationships on television – Amy Childs, Lauren Pope… do you regret this and do you think it had an effect on your www.thestudentmag.co.uk
27.
Interview | Kirk Norcross
I wanted to do a book where I wasn’t going to hold anything back, because even when I was with Amy and Lauren, I still didn’t let them see the real me. Hopefully when they read my book, they’ll realise why I was being a prick, why I got upset now and again and why I go into my shell and go quiet for a couple of days.
Do you think TOWIE is as good now, because most of the original people have left, so it’s kind of a completely different show?
It’s still a good show, but it’s not the same though. When we were on TOWIE, me, Amy, Mark and Sam, we were constantly chasing things. We were like, ‘Right, I’m going to be that geezer, I’m going to be a TV presenter’, and you’ve watched us grow up. But now you’re not watching them grow up - I mean they’re getting younger on TOWIE, I don’t mean they’re getting a younger cast, the cast members are acting younger. You watched us cute and coming in to fame, you watched us slowly mature and grow up, and do better for ourselves, but it’s still a good show and it made me who I am, so can’t knock it.
Why did you leave, then come back into TOWIE, then leave again?
I left the first time because I fell out with one of the producers. She knew I had a temper, so she only put me in situations where she knew I was going to lose my temper. So I was like, ‘You know what, I ain’t going to be portrayed as a hot head constantly in every scene’, so I left TOWIE. So then I went back. I literally went to give
28.
www.thestudentmag.co.uk
it a go, but it’s changed, I think I came back too late, it’s not the same show that I left.
So then you went on Big Brother, how was that? Are you glad you took part in Big Brother?
It’s the best experience of my life, I’m such a Big Brother fan, it was so good to be in there. But it was the best time of my life and the worst time. I think they portrayed me very bad in there, and I know they only showed me talking about girls, they didn’t show me in the day having hearts to hearts with people, cleaning the house, teaching people how to cook. They knew who they wanted me to be like when they chose me to be in there, so they only had me talking about ladies.
Yes it’s difficult how to come across, because obviously they edit everything, so it’s just what they want it to be.
Yeah, I’m like, ‘When I’m in there, people can actually see the real me’. I cried every night I was in the Big Brother house for some reason, because I’m a soppy f*cker. No one’s really going to understand it and when I go out, they’re like, ‘Kirk, why were you only talking about girls?’. But I wasn’t! That’s it, it took me a year to try and get my female fan base back which Big Brother destroyed, and then I’ve just destroyed it again by saying I’ve shagged a 1001 girls…
So you’ve written everything in your book, the way you want it to come across? Yeah, my book, it’s literally just me, from start to finish, it’s my
life. And it’s so up to date as well. We changed it just before I left TOWIE, pulled it two days before it went to edit, quickly changed to say I’ve left TOWIE now. It’s literally up to date a couple of months ago.
What are you doing now and what are your plans for the future?
I am literally starting my book tour today now, I’m in your town now! I’m doing that until the end of May, then after that I’m going to buy my mum a flat - not got that much money, my mum, so I’m going to buy her a flat, furnished and that for her. Decorate it, put her in it, and then I’m going to take a little couple of months out to chill, spend some time with my friends and family and that, and then I’m auditioning for a film in a couple of months, so fingers crossed I get that.

/delaneysmusicbarsheffield Delaney’s is not merely a bar, it’s a fantastic music venue run by Sharp Cuts guitarist Steve Delaney. He and his wife opened the live music venue themselves and celebrate the tradition of live music by putting on live music events every night! With their wealth of experience in the music business and hospitality trade, the pair really know what they’re doing. As such Delaney’s put on a whole roster of musical talent for your listening pleasure. Monday sees a participation event with the wildly popular sing-a-long night and art displays. Tuesday is the chance for aspiring singer-songwriters to take the stage in an open mic night. With Wednesday the bar embraces the blues with their Blues Jam Night, and on Thursdays go from blues to indie, embracing the huge Sheffield
indie scene with their local indie band and DJ night. Fridays and Saturdays feature a whole host of the most talented of live music acts. Delaney’s is also looking to bring a touch of the blues to the Steel City and will do so with its blues music festival, taking place between 31st May and 1st June. The inclusive nature of this unique festival means that absolutely anyone is welcome and any blues act that wishes to take part can do so by contacting Delaney’s. Delaney’s, which mixes great live music every day with the Sheffield tradition of premium lagers and real ales to Steel City enthusiasts, also has a fantastic beer garden which we’re told is a complete sun-trap, great for catching some rays this summer! Like the Delaney’s Facebook page for regular listings and offers.

You are a law unto yourself and that’s not a bad thing. Whilst other more conservative signs may be intimidated by your unique nature, there is true value to marching to your own beat. Take the chance this month to let your individuality shine through.
The summer sun is finally out and it’s not the only thing burning brightly this month! Your fiery personality is rearing its head again and with it a whole lot of pent up anger is coming out. Instead of lashing out at loved ones and friends, use this energy constructively to get something you’ve always wanted.

It’s time to socialise, but you’re feeling rather meek again. It’s perfectly normal for Taureans to shy away from social situations, in fact it’s integral to their nature. Don’t let it ruin the party season and instead stick to small gatherings with close friends.

This month it’s time to reconnect with that friend, you know the one? The one you haven’t spoken to for months. They’ve meant to call you too, but if one of you doesn’t make the first move and dial that number the friendship could be lost forever.
You just can’t keep still, can you? Use that inquisitive instinct to embrace the summer and travel the world this year. Whether it’s a trip across the channel or to the Southern hemisphere, you can be sure to gain a great deal from a welcome getaway.
There is such a thing as caring too much, you know? You may think that your constant calls to family and friends show you care, but do they really think the same? Sometimes your love can be suffocating, so cut it out and back off!

Is your ego taking over again? There’s nothing wrong with a little confidence but when it turns to arrogance you may end up annoying a lot of people. Try to tone it down a little; instead of bragging about your new car, offer people a lift!
It’s time to get a little creative! Whether it’s painting, sewing or tiedying your clothes for a completely original look, this month is the time to get on it. Put your artistic nature to the test and see what you can come up with.
Love is in the air for everyone but you this month, Libra. Sorry to be the one to break it to you, but this is not the month you’re going to find your soul mate. Don’t worry too much though, as there are good things coming your way later in the year.

If you’re fighting more than kissing then something is wrong. Staying in a relationship when you’ve hit a rocky patch is admirable, but sticking with someone who makes you feel less than adequate is foolish. Decide which category you come under!
You’ve got a whole lot of personality and that’s great… most of the time. Sometimes, though, it can become over-bearing. Try not to let your voice silence that of others or you could end up feeling completely alone.
This month is your month, Capricorn. Seize the day, because you can quite literally take anything you please at the moment. Act fast while the universe favours you and you could end up achieving everything you’ve always wanted.

Boddika, Trevino, Lo Shea, Chris Duckenfield at Hope Works Published by Laura Keen, May 2013
As dissertation deadlines loom, and the reality sets in that I am (technically) no longer a student, one faces an uphill struggle against that thing some call real life. Therefore (understandably) I will seize any opportunity that acts as an escape to this reality - Mixed In Sheffield brought Boddika to Hope Works and it was like it was meant to be. Naturally, fellow real-life-deniers jumped on the bandwagon, and it was quickly set to be the next big night. It is clear why Hope Works is the talking point of the music scene at the moment - with its high ceilings and open layout it overcomes the claustrophobic tendencies of warehouse raves. At £3.50 for a can of Redstripe, drinks aren’t too cheap, hence the importance of a pre-drink. But the sound system is unbelievable. Loshea got the crowd in the mood; with his tech-house approach the crowd quickly livened up. And then Boddika entered, with his mix of garage, house and bass infused electro music he lifted the roof clean off. The crowd was literally jumping and the sweat was dripping off the walls. By the time Trevino came on, the whole night had blurred into one (the downside of a pre-drink), but it was all equally enjoyable. By 5.30am we had well and truly thrown the towel in and called a taxi. After my last experience of not booking a taxi I can’t emphasise the regret you will feel if you don’t – Hope Works is literally in the middle of nowhere. Tickets aren’t cheap, and it is not a night for the faint hearted, but Mixed In Sheffield absolutely smashed it and as a venue, it makes for a very memorable night.
Potting The Black
Published by Tom Hardy, May 2013 That time of the year has come round again, and snooker fever has well and truly hit Sheffield. It doesn’t seem five minutes ago since Ronnie O’Sullivan defeated Ali Carter at the 2012 Crucible final, and most bookies are predicting that the reigning champ will retain his trophy after some dazzling performances saw him stroll into the semi-finals. The 37-year-old had taken a six month break from the game to spend more time with his family, but made his eagerly awaited comeback because he wanted to try and hold onto snooker’s biggest title. Or at least that’s what everybody thought. Instead, O’Sullivan decided to admit in an interview that he’d only returned for the money, which he needed to pay for his kids’ school fees. No, you haven’t had one too many, he really did say that. It’s a statement - I’m sure you’d agree - that we’re more used to associating with footballers, not snooker players. So whether he claims his fifth championship or not, it seems as if this could be the last time we see ‘The Rocket’... once he’s picked up his pay-packet of course. O’Sullivan will always divide opinion because of the controversial things he says and the way in which he approaches the game. But there’s no doubt that the Englishman is one of the greatest players ever to grace the sport.

Apocalypse How Published by Yasmine Gleghorn, May 2013 Perceptions of humanity’s future have changed. There was a time when humans looked unbeatable. Natural disasters? Please, we have that sorted. A deadly virus? It’s not as deadly as our K-45 Sonic Blasters. Alien invasions? Erm, hello! Sonic blaster! We had the technology, but nature ran its course and won. The world has now turned against humans, and 2013’s post-apocalyptic films offer the best example. Take April 19th’s Oblivion. Only one man stands between the last remnants of the human race and complete extinction! Luckily for humanity, that man was Tom Cruise, so everything worked out just fine. Our dim futures give directors a lot to play with, going from horror to mystery, crime and romance. That last one is tricky. Give a small part and it’s fine, but make it feature heavily and humanity starts losing the battle (cough, wheeze, The Host, cough). But what happens when you add a little Will Smith to the mix? Hopefully something like Independence Day. Father/son combo, Will and Jaden Smith, return in science fiction thriller, After Earth. Set in a near future, humans left Earth after a series of apocalyptic events and settled on planet Nova Prime, light years away from their home planet. One thousand years later, the Ranger Corps, led by General Cypher Raige (Will Smith), get caught in an asteroid field and crash on Earth. With a critically hurt Cypher and his son Kitai (Jaden Smith) as the only survivors, they must embark on a perilous journey across the planet to signal for help. Now evolved animals dominate Earth, and an unstoppable alien creature that escaped the crash lurks in the shadows. Set for release on May 31st, the film co-stars Sophie Okonedo, Isabelle Fuhrman and Zoe Isabella Kravitz.

Irezumi Tattoo Studio 745 Abbeydale Road, Sheffield, S7 2BG 0114 255 9471
When it comes time to get yourself inked there are so many concerns to factor in. You need to make sure you’ve picked the right design, but much more importantly you need to make sure that the person behind the tattooing instrument is a trained professional. If you’re looking for a truly professional tattooist in Sheffield then look no further than Irezumi. Based on Abbeydale Road, Irezumi Tattoo Studio has now been open four years, and in that time it has blossomed as a professional tattoo studio that provides a premium service, employing tattoo personnel with a breadth of experience.
Irezumi has two tattoo specialists who cater to differing schools of body art philosophy. Jim started his career as a graffiti artist (legally), and was apprenticed to the shop’s original artist, Kev Heath before taking over. This has given Jim a new school style of tattoo artistry. In contrast Rich follows more traditional ideas when it comes to body art. At its heart, Irezumi is a custom tattoo studio. The amount of experience their professionals bring ensures that you can bring in whatever design you want tattooed and they can handle it. Irezumi’s is more than a tattoo parlour, it’s a tattoo salon, dedicated to the art of helping people express their personalities through their bodies.

For all you summer bunnies and party loving students, it’s that time again! Summer 2013 has rolled around and it’s time to break out the tents, booze and UV glow sticks for the festival season. We British do music festivals like no other nation in the world; when we put on a festival, you know it’s going to be bigger, badder and have better music acts than any other the world over! Here at The Student Magazine we’re already packing up the car in anticipation to get on the road this summer and see what the British festival scene has to offer in 2013. If you’re as crazy about the whole thing as we are then check out our comprehensive guide to festival life.
It might seem obvious but it’s always good to go over the basics. You may party into the wee hours of the early morning, but after you’ve exhausted that feel good buzz you’re going to need somewhere to crash. Hence the tent! Have you ever seen the state of festival port-a-showers? Even if you can beat the queue and actually get into one, they’re rank. Take baby wipes for a quick wipe down between acts and we’re all happy! Be wary with this one. Most festivals either don’t allow you to bring your own or limit the amount you can bring. But if you can, do. Festival alcohol prices really will break the bank.
Ever stayed outside in the heat of summer for hours on end? Yes - you see our point. You get so wrapped up taking in your favourite tunes you don’t realise your skin is blistering; a little Factor 20 will sort that right out. Port-a-loos are truly disgusting. However, they’re usually unavoidable. By the time you beat the line to use it, there’s never any bog roll left; you either bring your own or you’re epically screwed. There’s so many revellers jostling around to that infectious beat that minor accidents do tend to happen. You’re going to need a little help to get back on your feet, hence the first aid kit!
We know you might be a little nervous about the potential for damage to your most valued possession, but you’re going to want to capture these moments. Just think of the memories! This one’s purely about dehydration. There’s so much going on over the space of one weekend that it’s vital to stay hydrated. It’s a health thing. Over the course of the weekend, your hair tends to go from immaculately groomed to barely recognisable. A little dry shampoo will fix that right up.
Now you know what you’re bringing, you’re all set to hit the scene! There are so many music festivals throughout the summer months; it’s hard to know which one to spend your hard earned money on attending. If you need a little help making up your mind, here’s some of the top festivals for this summer.
First up, we bring you something a little removed from the usual heavy rock infused festival our scene is so known for. Set in the heart of the stunning national Peak District, this is an intimate three day family festival. Located in a 40 acre showground in the picturesque town of Bakewell, the festival is home to over 40 music acts per year from a number of musical genres including Rock, Blues, Latin, Country, Folk and Bluegrass. Featuring two stages, the ‘main stage’ and the smaller ‘acoustic stage’, this festival is perfect if you’re a true lover of the art of music. This year’s Bakewell Music Festival begins on Friday 16th August and runs on until Sunday 18th August, featuring over 40 professional music acts from every genre imaginable. Top music acts already signed to play this year include Gypsy Fire, Leon Hunt, The Old Dance School, Kel Elliot, King Pleasure and the Biscuit Boys, Lancashire Hot Pots, String Driven Thing and Bo Walton, and check their website for new signings. With such a diverse roster of acts ready and waiting to liven up your weekend, if you want to learn about less ‘pop’ forms of music, this is the place to be! Ticket prices range from £20£70, children under 16 are free and can be bought at bakewellmusicfestival.com

BITES Harvester
Valley Centertainment, Broughton Lane, Sheffield, S9 2EP 0114 261 9836 www.harvester.co.uk Nestled in to the wealth of restaurants within Centertainment, lies Harvester. With more than 200 restaurants nationwide, they must be doing something right! We popped in for a nibble to find out more. The main appeal of Harvester is that you get much more than enough food for your money! The main menu follows a pick’n’mix format – pick a main (chicken, steaks, burgers, ribs, combos, fish and vegetarian), pick a sauce and pick a side, all with unlimited salad. There’s a new addition to the menu however – the Hall of Flame, which sounded far too tempting to resist. The range of grills on the menu includes classic Harvester meals such as lamb, ribs and burgers, including the Budweiser Mega Ribs which we’re told are taking the restaurant by storm – a

massive pile of ribs smothered in Budweiser BBQ sauce, seasoned fries, corn on the cob and Classic Ranchsaw… but we weren’t quite brave enough for that. We opt for the Triple Flavour Chicken Burger and Sticky Jack Daniel’s Combo, with a side of Onion Rings. Served with seasoned fries and BBQ sauce, the burger was a jaw breaking tower of southern-fried chicken breast topped with crispy bacon, loaded with BBQ sauce in a glazed bun. I asked for the burger without the pineapple, which wasn’t a problem. Perfectly cooked, the chicken tasted fantastic and more than hunger quenching, plus the fries were seasoned deliciously; moreish and tasty. The Combo was a beast! A plate loaded with 6oz chargrilled rump and baby back of ribs in a sticky Jack Daniel’s sauce, with seasoned fries, grilled corn on the cob, beer battered onion rings and Classic Ranchsaw. The sauce tasted amazing, BBQ-ey yet sweet and sticky, perfect drizzled on the meat and for dipping the fries into. The meat fell off the
ribs, succulent and tender, and the steak was small enough to manage yet large enough to be a challenge, juicy and cooked to order. Crisp and fresh, the onion rings were moist with a perfect amount of batter. We polished the meal off with an epic and delicious Munchies Sundae – chocolate fudge cake topped with piles of creamy vanilla ice cream, whipped cream, Belgian chocolate sauce, Munchie pieces and crispy wafers – and Fruit Skewers, which although didn’t come on skewers as expected, consisted of cubes of honeydew melon, watermelon, pineapple and strawberries, served with Cornish vanilla ice cream. We left stuffed to bursting after a hunger quenching meal. For students on a budget, Harvester is a perfect place to fill up on food! Jump on the tram to Centertainment for a taste – just remember to go on an empty stomach!
BIG
BITES Let’s Go Al Fresco! Hoping for sunshine might be sheer optimism, but as soon as those rays come out we’ll be donning our shades and flip flops and heading for a beer garden. And there are some corkers around the city, no matter where you live. We spoke to BrewKitchen, Sheffield’s biggest independent restaurant chain, to talk about their al fresco offerings. Eccy Road is notoriously lacking when it comes to outside space, but get there early and both Graze Inn and Relish have outdoor tables – perfectly primed for watching the world go by. Graze also has a bargain Happy Hour from 5-7pm weekdays, while Relish’s Beat the Clock food offer means cheap dining on the remains of your loan (yes, we know, that’d be optimistic too!). If you’re happy to tootle further afield, The Cricket Inn at Totley can’t be beaten. Fantastic food and drink is complemented by rolling fields, a cricket pitch and plenty of tables to the rear. They even host gourmet barbecues in the warmer months. Believe us, outdoor dining doesn’t get much better than this. Further afield still is The Inn at Troway – but boy is it worth the trip. Famed for its panoramic countryside views, eating and drinking here is almost
A r t i s an unrivalled. There are plenty of outdoor tables from which to enjoy hearty food and take it all in. And we’d highly recommend you do! Heading back into town is The Beauchief on Abbeydale Road. May will see the restaurant transform into Jack Baker’s Great Northern Brasserie, with a launch party from 3:30pm-11pm on May 2nd (we’d recommend you get down there, they’re giving away £10 vouchers for the restaurant!).

BOOZE The Botanical
261 Ecclesall Rd, Sheffield 0114 266 7966 Ecclesall Road is a popular place for the students of Sheffield. It is forever bustling with people shopping, dining or out drinking. At the city end of Ecclesall Road sits a pub nestled into the scenery. Past students may know this pub as Varsity; however most of you will know it as The Botanical. The pub itself has a lot to offer students, from cheap drinks to 20% off food with an NUS card. The best time of the week to head to The Botanical is midweek. Tuesday night is host to the Jellybean quiz, which is extremely popular with students in the area. Make sure you pre-book a table or you run the risk of having to stand awkwardly with your drink in your hand all night. Crowd favourite, ‘Singo-bingo’, never fails to get everyone singing along to all the classics, whilst the turtle race will have you jumping out of your seat yelling at your turtle to get a move on. Make sure you’re not too hung-over though, because Wednesday night is cheap drinks night. £1.25 pints and the same for mixers mean it’s the perfect way to chill out midweek. Not only is the Botanical brilliant for those wanting to drink, it also has a varied and unique menu, offering everything from mixed grills to spicy burritos at very reasonable prices. Be sure to keep your eyes peeled too; the Arctic Monkeys are regulars here.

Barry’s Bar
96-98 London Road, Sheffield, S2 4LR 0114 278 4564 If you fancy some Jamaican style niceties without having to travel all the way across the Caribbean Sea you can get your hands on some of the finest spicy cuisine right here in the Steel City. There is a place on the ever multi-cultural London Road where you can dine in and have the pleasure of eating some of the very best food made to authentic Caribbean recipes. Barry’s Bar, 96-98 London Road, is just what we have been craving here in Sheffield for so long: a Jamaican style bar! The quirkily decorated bar boasts a Jamaican theme throughout; that goes for its food, its atmosphere and
even its décor. Whether you’re in the mood for some delicious curried goat, some spicy jerk chicken or some yummy ackee and saltfish, Barry’s Bar has just what you need to quash those hunger pangs. Every dish is under a fiver which is a fantastic deal considering the unbeatable quality of food offered! It’s not just great food that Barry’s Bar has to offer, the bar also offers entertainment throughout the week. The Tuesday night quiz is ideal for any general knowledge buffs out there and is swiftly followed by something to get you in the party mood; a night of smooth Motown tracks. Friday nights are when it really gets going, though, with a great disco night that’s simply unmissable!
gadgets Phoenix Portable Bluetooth Speakers
www.firebox.com, £59.99 With summer fast approaching, so too are the BBQs with friends and the long days lounging around on the beach with a melting ice cream and a cold bottle of beer. No summer’s day is complete, however, without your favourite tunes blasting out and getting everyone on their feet. It’s a shame then that recent portable speakers have lacked that little bit of quality to really give the sound track to your summer justice. The Phoenix Portable Speaker may just be the answer. Not only does it look great with its sleek and stylish design, its wireless connectivity to your iPod or Smartphone makes it ideal for those warm summer days in the sun, as you can effortlessly change from tune to tune without having to put your drink down. One of the main reasons portable speakers haven’t quite lived up to expectation in the past is due to their poor sound quality. “That’s as loud as it goes”, is never something you want to hear when wanting to sing along to your favourite songs. The Phoenix Portable Speakers boast an impressive sound system packing the punch you need to get the party started and the drinks flowing.

G.I. Joe: Retaliation Director: Sam Raimi Retaliation is the sequel to the action-packed 2009 film, G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra. Due to Cobra having control over the White House, the Joes (joined by Dwayne Johnson and Adrianne Palicki) are framed for stealing nuclear warheads, and all but a few are killed. The last film left off great for me; Cobra’s operative Zartan had supplanted himself as the President of the United States, so even after the Joes had imprisoned Cobra Commander, they still weren’t out of trouble. Unfortunately, Retaliation didn’t deliver for its build up. The plot felt very disconnected, as it tries to focus on too many different locations and perspectives, which leaves you feeling a little lost.

It also means that it manages to somehow fail as an action film, which could have been its saving grace. Also, what happened to the original cast? I liked Sienna Miller and Marlon Wayans in their respective roles, and I didn’t really see the appeal in them being swapped out for the aforementioned new cast members. I’m not going to pretend I can tell you what to do, but I can at least plead that you won’t go and see this film.

BEATS Stooshe
Goo Goo Dolls
Michael Bublé
The eagerly awaited debut album from London girl group Stooshe doesn’t fail to meet expectations, with tracks ranging from catchy to soulful. When the girls released their break-through single, “Black Heart”, last June, the single fast became a hit, peaking at number three in the UK charts. The album is a mix of pop styled music with soulful voices.
Best known for their early 2000’s hit “Iris”, a song that you just can’t seem to get away from, the Goo Goo Dolls are back with their latest musical offering, “Magnetic”. This, an album which offers what you expect and nothing more, is the band’s tenth studio album. Whilst a solid album for break-up victims, it’s hard to see how anyone else can take any pleasure from it.
The Canadian heart-throb is back for another album and we couldn’t be more pleased. His first release from the album, “It’s a Beautiful Day”, is simply stunning; a more sweet than bitter recollection of a breakup, with gleeful lyrics such as, “You said that we should just be friends, well I came up with that line and I’m sure it’s for the best”. If only we could all feel that way about breaking up!
London With The Lights On
“Hoochi Mumma” is the stand out track of the album. The girls belt out lines “She’s living in a council house five bedrooms, three bathrooms and no spouse”, swiftly followed up by, “She’s in love! Yeah, with the social”, which aims to strike a chord with the general opinion in the UK at the moment. You could almost forget where these girls came from, overlooking them for some over marketed Americanised pop band, if it weren’t for their fantastically clear British accents powering over every song. However the random counting and shouting which frequents their music seems a little unnecessary. All in all this is a great album from a great British band.
70.
www.thestudentmag.co.uk
Magnetic
The second track on the album, the sickeningly soppy “When The World Breaks Your Heart”, attempts the epic task of fitting as many clichés as is humanly possible in to one song. Note lines such as, “Like the stars we burn forever” and “I’m always with you.” The seventh track on the album “More Of You” has an altogether more rocky sound, along with a tempo to suit it, but still grasps feebly to standard notions of love and statements which air on the side of ridiculous. No doubt this album will sell out to teen girls, who classify themselves misguidedly as rock fans, however the album lacks substance and relies on stagnant turns of phrase and generic lyrics.
To Be Loved
The rest of the album is riddled with stunning covers such as the first track, “You Make Me Feel So Young” and “Something Stupid” featuring, rather bizarrely, Reese Witherspoon. Each version of classics such as these are, of course, done in great style and at no cost to the original. Track eleven, and yet another cover, is a rather jazzed up version of “You’ve Got a Friend in Me”. It is hard not to smile whilst listening to this track as your mind flicks back to your youth and years watching “Toy Story”. There is very little I can fault about this album; filled with both original and lovingly covered versions of classics.
As students, we all know what it’s like to look at our bank balance, sigh, and realise we can only afford the essentials this week. That’s why the Student Lock In at Meadowhall is such a life saver. Running twice a year in April and September (just in time for Fresher’s), the Student Lock In is an event Meadowhall and various shopping centres around the country, where students can go for a late night shopping session. Sign up to the service on the Student Lock In website to get discounts at Meadowhall’s top notch stores! Non students can attend too, although the discounts only apply to students who register with the service. The last Student Lock In took place on 18th April and we had a chance to head on down. We were left in awe at the event, which saw late night shoppers score tonnes of bargain basement discounts at high end stores such as Boots. Even better, shoppers were accompanied by banging DJ sets from some of the Steel City’s top record spinners!
The next Student Lock In at Meadowhall is scheduled to take place on a yet to be disclosed date in September, and students will be able to register with the service to score all the big discounts closer to the time. The advantage of this Student Lock In? It’s right before Fresher’s! That means you can take your students loans and go a little crazy. Quite frankly, the Student Lock In is a boon to every single one of us out there who has big material dreams, but a distinct lack of cash. It’s more than just a shopping trip, it’s a real experience!

Budweiser Mega Ribs(

France
Greece
Croatia
当 时 我 们 是 在 sk ysc a n n e r 上 定 的 机 票 , 如 果 想 定 火 车 票 可 以 去 r a i le ur o pe 上 找 找。
Ireland
如 果 有 同 学 是 需要跟其他人住在同一间房的,那么你只需 要在酒店预订的注释信息下用英文写清楚, 比 如 说 “ I w i ll sh a r e th i s r o o m w i th … ” 。
Italy
Amsterdam

Kirk Nor c ross 柯克·诺克斯访谈录 在ITV2的电视真人秀《埃塞克斯是唯一的生活方式》(The Only Way Is Essex)一炮而红之后, 柯克•诺克斯(Kirk Norcross)就从Brentwood’s Sugar Hut这个夜店里一跃到了《名人老大哥》 (Celebrity Big Brother)的舞台(同时也越来越因为其娘炮的性格而走红)。

Adam:

Vanessa:
Molly:

Frankie:

Adam:
