Manager’s Corner The President's View Taking Stock – 2022 and Beyond Hopefully, we all enjoyed a wonderful Holiday Season as we prepare to do a page turn on 2021 and face the challenges and opportunities 2022 has in store for us. Cresswind’s history dates back to 2005. Its early beginnings were a stark contrast to where we are today. Our community was populated by a small number of energetic and visionary residents, who remained steadfast, undaunted, and unhampered by the untimely bankruptcy of Levitt and Sons as they forged ahead. To better understand that part of Cresswind’s Legacy, I urge you to obtain your own copy of our Heritage Work Group’s first project, entitled “Our Cresswind Heritage – Volume 1, 2005-2009”, which has been available since early December. As we bid farewell to 2021 and await the unfolding of 2022, it is important to take stock of those humble beginnings, the period of fear and uncertainty which then ushered in the arrival of Kolter and the Cresswind of today. It is timely and appropriate to fast forward to the completion of the era of our developer, Kolter, and take stock in where we are since we took control of our community and its destiny after signing the Community Transition Documents in August of 2020 and now have been on own ever since. A glance back should be all that is necessary to see how we as a community have traversed the last 16+ years. We have weathered our Rules and Regulations, the everchanging landscape of our community and the Covid-19 Pandemic and its lingering effects. The Great News is that after encountering and addressing the adversities we were compelled to confront, we have emerged wiser, stronger and in complete control of our destinies going forward. It is easy to cite numerous successes, initiatives, and progress even in the difficult period of the last 1-1/2 years. Lead by dedicated resident volunteers populating our HOA Board, Committees, Clubs, The Cresswind Community Fund, Veterans Groups, Work Groups and dedicated Community and area support groups, we have shown our fortitude, commitment, and compassion,

which defines Cresswind. We held Vaccination Programs, realigned our Charter and Operating Procedures – improved and upgraded many of our amenities, embarked upon much needed road repair and repaving - we also took control of our marina, which had up to that point been exclusively owned by Kolter, but operated by the Cresswind HOA. Since that time, we have encountered the Covid-19 Pandemic and all it brought to our Country, our Region and our Community. Let’s quickly review where we have come from since the early part of 2020 – worked with Jackson EMC to improve the reliability of our local electrical feeders to minimize future power outage impacts – entered into a cost effective contract with Spectrum to the benefit of all of our residents – implemented a realignment of our Management Company, First Service Residential to be more proactive and responsive – entered into a long term improvement program with Spectrum to completely revamp other IT and Internet Services in our Clubhouse. There are numerous other examples of our forward progress, with thanks and gratitude to our tireless volunteers – it speaks to our Generosity – Fortitude - Care – Concern for our residents and Community and Public Service which is in our DNA. Therefore, I find it easy to see that if we take time to take stock of our humble beginnings and look to our recent past, it is apparent where Cresswind Is headed in 2022 and beyond. I can see nothing less than the best of Cresswind in the future as it continues to be one of the Premier 55+ Active Adult Communities to live in. We continue to have and exhibit a special bond amongst our residents and local community. It leads to our motto – CRESSWIND STRONG. As we embrace 2022 and beyond, let us recommit to be a bit more caring, sharing, compassionate, and committed to be the best we can be for ourselves, our community, and our neighbors Regards, Dan Gershkowitz

Manager, Kitti Kleindler Message This time last year hopes were high that life was returning to “normal”- whatever that is. Well, it is 12 months later and Covid seems reluctant to release its hold on us. Masks, vaccines, and variants are now words that are found in our everyday conversations. And yet . . . here we are. It’s a New Year and the clubhouse is open, there are more and more people using it every day. The Brew Ha Ha bunch is growing, events and the attendance at events is climbing. I am encouraged that, although cautious, Cresswinders are not going to be cowed any longer. Everyone has his own comfort level of protection and I see respect for those differences. What is January/February 2022

important is that we re-energize the vibrant lifestyle that is Cresswind. We have some new clubs and are always willing to create more if there is an interest. Many new residents are just beginning to experience all that Cresswind has to offer. Boy are they in for a pleasant surprise! In this new year of 2022, I encourage all of you to try something new and get involved. That is why most of you moved to an “active adult” community. Committees are always looking for new members. Clubs’ welcome new participants. And we have yet to reach our limit on ticket sales for events. The motto for lifestyle at Cresswind (maybe you have seen it at the bottom of the daily updates) is “Set Yourself Free!”. Let’s do just that! We look forward to a great year at Cresswind! EDUCATION COMMITTEE TO OFFER CPR/AED CLASSES The Cresswind Education Committee kicks off 2022 with a CPR/AED course taught by Cresswind resident and American Heart Association instructor Karen Silverthorn. The course trains participants on how to provide CPR and use an automated external defibrillator on a patient during a medical emergency. Individual classes will be offered on four dates to accommodate as many residents as possible. Classes are tentatively planned for 12:30 PM Jan. 18; 5:30 PM Jan. 19; 12:30 PM Jan. 21; and 1:30 PM Jan. 24. Individual classes last about four hours and are limited to eight participants each. Registration is $13, which covers course materials. Interested residents may indicate a specific class date and pay the registration fee at the front desk of the clubhouse. Certification will be available upon request.

Have you gone to check out all of the pictures from Whoville Extravaganza?? If not, then log into the Cresswind Website to check out those pictures as well as the wonderful pictures from the First Responder Holiday Parade last night! Cresswind residents continue to amaze me...last night through the efforts of the Education Committee we were able to grant the First Responders over $8,000. First each first responder was given a tumbler filled with gift cards and coupons to local places. Then on top of that Cresswind residents raised $2,200 for Police Unity Tour and then to top it all off through the Community Fund we raised $5,000 to help the efforts by the Gainesville Police Department and Meals on Wheels to bring warmth to local seniors in Hall County. I don’t know about you all, but I feel absolutely blessed to be a part of Cresswind at Lake Lanier.

For more information on Education Committee programming, see “Upcoming Events” and other links by logging into cresswindatll.com and clicking on the “Lifestyle” drop-down menu, then “Committees” and “Education Committee.” Have an idea for a program topic? LANDSCAPE COMMITTEE Welcome to 2022! This is the second in a series of articles regarding the idiosyncrasies of landscaping here at Cresswind Lake Lanier, this article will deal with groundcovers, especially those used for erosion control. Unfortunately, there are numerous locations within Cresswind that have erosion control issues. Erosion issues are most prominent or worrisome on steep slopes, especially those that are along the perimeters of Cresswind property, or along the many areas that are adjacent to watershed property. As a reminder, we have three watershed entities that have manage property within Cresswind: US Army Corps of Engineers, Gainesville Watershed, and Hall County Watershed. Areas with the most erosion issues tend to be found near/on non-irrigated residential property. These areas are typically found behind homes on berms along the perimeters of Cresswind property. These areas are not maintained in the same manner as Primary Common Areas or irrigated residential property. Non-irrigated, residential property is any homeowner property that was not originally covered with pine straw and/or maintained as homeowner landscape. That means there is limited maintenance. These areas are not weeded, do not receive pine straw application, and do not receive herbicide or fertilizer applications. Per the contract with MTScapes, these areas are only to be cut back twice a year. Typically, this is done in June-July and again in October-November. What to do about erosion issues or if you have non-irrigated residential property associated with your home. There are several options, however the recommended, and perhaps best, erosion control material is low-lying junipers. There are several varieties available, and all do well in our climate. So, selection of the variety would be personal choice.

WHY JUNIPERS

First and foremost, they are durable and provide excellent erosion control. Once planted, they spread well, and their root systems spread out widely, creating

January/February 2022

an underground web of erosion control. They are also very low maintenance. They do not require any trimming, and once established, require little to no additional watering. As with any new plantings, they will require some watering (in addition to rain). That can be accomplished by using a garden hose and sprinkler system or redirecting some of your sprinkler system to provide minimal watering 1-2 times a week. But this is only required until the plants have become established, generally six to eight months. I know some residents are hesitant to use junipers because there is a rumor goin’ round that they attract snakes. NO, junipers do not attract snakes! We live in an area with an abundance of wildlife, including some snakes. But junipers do not attract snakes any more than a rose bush or hostas. Another bonus to planting junipers is they are deer resistant. While there are no deer-proof plants, deer tend to pass up the junipers.

OTHER PLANTS

There are some hollies, such as the soft-touch holly, which make excellent ground covers and provide erosion control. While the hollies are also deer resistant, they tend to be taller and more vertical in growth. Some varieties are shorter; however, they tend to be more compact in their spread when compared to junipers. As a result, more plants may be required to cover the expanse or slope. They may also require some additional trimming or other maintenance. While there are some flowering types of erosion control/ground cover available, these types of plants tend to require significant maintenance, are not deer resistant, and often are either deciduous (drop their leaves or vegetation). As a result, during winter months they could become unsightly, even given the appearance of being dead.

FINAL COMMENTS

Whatever groundcover you chose, please keep the following in mind: 1) you will need to submit an External Improvement Form (EIR Landscape) to receive approval for the planting; and 2) homeowners are responsible for on-going maintenance.

Welcome Committee By Sue Joninas

The Cresswind Welcome Committee is still reaching out to new residents with all of them being resales. Our members are sending cards, calling, and offering their support. We let the residents know they can call us, and we will help them in any way we can. We also find that neighbors on their street are reaching out to make them feel welcome. The Welcome Committee has taken over doing tours for new residents, in the clubhouse as well as outside of the clubhouse. We have given three of these as of this news article. If you would like a tour, please contact me. We held a New Resident Orientation on November 10th for all new residents since April 2021. It was well attended. We hosted a Meet and Greet on December 2nd for all new residents since April. It was well attended and enjoyed by all. If you do not hear from a Welcome Committee Member within four to six weeks of Closing on your new home, please contact me at sjoninas@gmail.com. We do not want to miss any new residents. Committee Corner Your Social Committee has been busy with many HOA activities in the last several months. Some of the many events we have been involved with include the Beatles Tribute Band, Cherry Cherry Tribute Concert, Dueling Pianos, and the Holiday Market Vendor Fair. Your Social Committee is gearing up and putting on their elf hats for some holiday events that include the Whoville Extravaganza, The Holiday Party, and the New Year’s Eve party. We anticipate another busy year and look forward to many fun events for the HOA. Your Social Committee works very hard in the background to help your Lifestyle Director with the many HOA events happening here at Cresswind.

We all wish you a joyous holiday season and all the best in 2022! Your Social Committee President,

WEBSITE COMMITTEE By Wilton Rooks, Chair

The Website Committee was recently established by a resolution of the HOA Board to manage the Cresswind website. The purpose of the committee is to update and enhance the website to be more responsive to the needs of all residents of Cresswind. The members of the committee are: Wilton Rooks – Chair Tim Roth – Vice Chair Cindy Laney - Secretary Gene Bramblett

Ernie Seymour Bert Emma Maggie Shay - Webmaster Brett Brayman – HOA Liaison

Three primary agenda items were established: 1. Reorganize the clubs, committees, HOA, and legacy documents and images with access through a Document Center on the home page. 2. Restructure the home page drop down menus. 3. Establish policies and procedures document to assure continuity and professional management of the website. In addition, a new calendar system was approved by the HOA Board and is now available with enhanced functions and features. Using the new calendar, club leaders can create and edit their own reservations rather than depending on staff to approve their requests. Website Maintenance Vector Illustration

COMMUNITY TRAVEL CLUB (CTC) By Pam Papciak

The Community Travel Club’s year ended on a high note as we took in the grandeur of historic Charleston at Christmas. The churches, storefronts, homes, and parks were decorated with sparkling lights, shiny bows, and all the holiday trimmings. The magic of Charleston helped us capture the spirit of the season.

The CTC starts our 2022 travel schedule on January 17th with a combined day trip to both the Fox Theater and Ponce City Market.

In the morning we will go backstage to tour the Fox Theater and see the many unique and interesting features that are necessary in producing a show. The tour will take us back in time to the theater’s golden era of 1929. The theater was meticulously restored in 1981 to bring the Siamese-Byzantine splendor of the Fox back to life. We will spend the afternoon at the renovated old Sears Building, now the Ponce City Market. This busy marketplace has a variety of restaurants representing different cuisines to choose from for lunch. There will be time to check out its many boutique shops and see why the Ponce City Market has become a popular gathering and shopping location.

Then on February 23rd we are off to the Georgia Aquarium. The day will feature a Behind the Sea Tour where you can explore the secret world behind the Georgia Aquarium and learn what goes into making the Aquarium function. You will not want to miss the Beluga whales and the new shark gallery. Visitors’ favorites are always the penguins and sea otters. To find out more information and to sign up for any of these trips, please go to the Community Travel Club website https://sites.google.com/site/ cresswindtravel/, select the specific trip link of your choice for additional information. To participate in any CTC trip, you must be a club member. The yearly dues are $5.00 per person. Your check can be dropped off in the CTC Clubhouse mailbox. Please mark your calendar for the first Thursday of each month at 4:00 for our General Meetings. Hope to see you there!

UKULELE CLUB By Kathie Zeranski

You have probably seen the Uke Group playing at various events. In case you did not notice, we have a great time. We meet twice a week for an hour of fun. If you have ever considered playing, come and join us! We are always happy to have new players. We have all levels of players from experienced musicians (like our leader John Kelley) to people that had never touched a string instrument before trying the Uke (like me). Stop by sometime & check us out, we meet on Mondays at 11:00 AM in the kitchen and Thursdays at 11:00 AM in the Savannah Room. Page 24

MAKE & TAKE CLUB By Kathie Zeranski

The Make & Take Club is for anyone that wants to teach a workshop in the Arts & Crafts Room. There have been several classes recently. If you saw people leaving the clubhouse with beautiful floral arrangements, they were coming from a Floral Decorating Class taught by Abby Saccomanno. Look for her classes in the Daily Updates, they fill up fast because they are fantastic! There was a fun Holiday Wreath

Workshop in November. We had a great time and there were some beautiful wreaths that were made! It was so successful that I have been asked to have another one in the spring. So, look for it in the Daily Updates. I also had two Bow Workshops to help people make new bows for their Mailbox Swags. The bows turned out really well & helped replace many of the orange bows on the mailboxes!

VETERANS CLUB The Cresswind Veterans Club continues to be active in helping Veterans in need, raising funds for such efforts, and having fun! Since mid-year 2021, we have been asked to assist six area veterans; the pandemic is still affecting some in maintaining employment. Our charity has provided financial assistance and gift cards towards purchasing needed food, payment of rent, mortgage, car loans, and utility expenses. And thanks to the Cresswind residents, our coat/ clothing drive was a huge success this year! Your overwhelming response generated at least five carloads of clothing delivered daily to various local charities. Hundreds of pieces of winter clothing were delivered to “Good News at Noon,” and even Page 26

more pieces were given to “Family Promise”. We also delivered thousands of items to St. Vincent de Paul, including men’s and women’s clothing, shoes, hats, gloves, sweaters, and jeans. A special thanks to Joannie Taylor and her volunteers for distributing these items, to Dave Dittmeier for organizing this event, and a very big THANK YOU CRESSWINDERS for your tremendous support! We also celebrated Veteran’s Day in November with a gathering at the flagpole followed by a very nice luncheon in the Ballroom courtesy of Cresswind Management. . . it was fun to celebrate, talk, and share our stories. Thank you, Cresswind at Lake Lanier! We also have two new board members to help during 2022, Fred Bowman and Robert Clewell. We are blessed to have Amy DeVillez returning to the board following her year off due to health issues. We welcome all three of you and look forward to a progressive year ahead. Our fund-raising efforts continue, and early in 2022 (perhaps Spring) we are planning to hold another Casino Night! Stay tuned via the Cresswind Updates!

Come to one of our monthly meetings and give us your thoughts, especially if you are interested in knowing about your ancestors or those who are still around. We meet the 4th Wednesday of the months January – October at 7:00 PM in the Georgia Room. Still want more information. Contact one of the facilitators: ~Howie Mueller

THE NEW COOKING CLUB I cannot begin to tell you how excited we are about our upcoming 2022 season. The Cooking Club will have a community meeting every quarter. The first being January 10th at 2:00 PM in the Ballroom. We want you to become acquainted with the team and feel comfortable and empowered to join us to plan and develop our upcoming events. Snacks and spirits will be included. It is not really work when we are having fun! Mardi Gras is scheduled for February 26th, Kentucky Derby is May 7th, Fish Fry is June 11th, and Oktoberfest is October 1st. In planning these wonderful events, we are very interested in your new ideas and what you think will work in our community. Our Cooking School remains one of the highlights of the club. You will learn how to be an expert in Mexican, Italian, Mediterranean, and German foods to name a few. Professional chefs come into our gorgeous Cresswind kitchen and teach us new cooking techniques. We also have neighbors who are very willing to share their experience. Look for more information on 5 Guys Cookin: an L.A. Mexican Brunch. You will be amazed. Our Adventures in Dining has been on hold due to the pandemic, but the steering committee will soon decide when it will resume. This group meets four times a year at a host home. All costs are shared equally among participants. You must be a paid member of the Cooking Club to participate. The Cooking Club was very involved with the Single Socials and Lifestyles to provide Friendsgiving. The event was a huge success and will become an annual event in Cresswind. The food was delicious, and our game Left Right Center was a big hit. On the Cresswind web page under Lifestyles, in the photo gallery is a folder of the Friendsgiving event. Enjoy! Our Cooking Club web page is transforming. We will continue to change and update it with current events, memos, recipes, and pictures of our wonderful community enjoying the Cooking Club lifestyle.

CRESSWIND LADIES GOLF CLUB By Jill Loftus

The Ladies Golf Club will host our annual kickoff meeting February 7th at 11:00 AM. If you ever wanted to play golf or you have not played in years this is the group of Ladies, you want to join. We have fun, we have laughs, and we learn little bit about golf. This 2022 season we will be playing at Royal Lakes Country Club in Oakwood. Our first T-time is around 10:00 AM. We play nine holes, sometimes we add a game to our play, it may be best ball, closest to the pin, who kept the ball in the fairway, etc. All for fun! Many of us get together for lunch either at the club or another restaurant afterwards. Plans are being made to occasionally play at Chattahoochee Golf Club with an 8:00 AM T-time. Nine and Dine will be taking place at Chattahoochee Golf Club. So, bring your husband or date for this event. It is nine holes of play followed by a wonderful meal served at the club by a brand-new Chef. More details on this to follow. In the summertime when its cooler in the evening

and the days are longer, we like to get together and play at Country Land in Cumming. We enjoy going out and eating afterwards. Royal Lakes will be offering Clinics to help improve our game. The Golf Pro, Luke James, is very willing to get this setup for us. We are looking at Thursdays in March to get this started and it is only $20.00 for the instructions. For those who are new to the sport, Kathy McBrine will be speaking to us at the Kick-off Meeting. Kathy is a great teacher of golf and is very willing to help you with your game. She will go over golf etiquette, and some basic rules about the game. Some of us keep score, some do not, it does not matter. We are out there to have fun and enjoy the sport. Please let us know if you would like to join us. Contact: Jill_Pastrick@yahoo.com.

BALLROOM DANCE CLUB By Wendy O’Hanlon

The Ballroom Dance Club has been fortunate to have a professional instructor for the past 7 months. Wayne Zwick has several years of experience in the Marietta area and has traveled to Cresswind on the 1st and 3rd Thursdays of the month to teach both group and private lessons. Our dance club plans to continue with the same format for 2022 beginning January 6th. So far Wayne has taught Single Step/East Coast Swing and Rhumba and the dances for next year will be chosen by the majority interest of each group. There will be a total of six lessons in a series and payment is directly paid to Wayne by cash or check. The lessons will need to be completed within a set timeframe and will not carry over to the next series except when there is a situation that Wayne has made an exception for, such as an injury. The cost for a group lesson is Page 32

$10 per person per class and payment is made for a total of six lessons ($60 per person) at the time of the first lesson. Private lessons are also offered at a rate of $70 per hour and the cost can be split in the following manner: 2 couples ($35 per couple) or 1 couple and 2 singles. Beginners will have their hour group lesson at 6 PM and more experienced dancers will have their lesson at 7 PM. Private lessons can be scheduled for 4 and 5 PM and a room will need to be reserved. For this reason, it will be necessary to contact Wendy at golfgirl2011@att.net to make sure a room is available before a time can be confirmed with Wayne. At the time of this publication, you may miss the first lesson of the series, but please do not hesitate to contact Wendy if you are interested in joining the group. We also hope to have a couple of dances throughout the year and carpool to other venues for dance opportunities.

THE RV CLUB “On the Road Again…Headed South” By Marilyn Young and Priscilla Stockwell When the weather is cold, we head south!! Several members of the Cresswind RV Club enjoyed an adventure in early November to the northern part of Florida known for beautiful springs and the gentle manatees. The group enjoyed a perfect weather pontoon trip down the crystal-clear Rainbow River fed completely by springs bubbling up through the sand and the Crystal River area where the manatees are migrating from the cooling waters of the Gulf. The cycle riders enjoyed trips through shady native forests and along a canal to the Gulf. Other activities included touring interesting towns, archeological sites, and some added an extension to their trip enjoying the famous sandcastle festival in Sarasota. And of course, the ability to search out fine local cuisine, in this case great seafood, at local restaurants and enjoy sharing RV adventures with friends is the best part of belonging to the RV Club! The following trips have been planned for 2022: • March 7 – March 13, 2022: Lazydays Resort, Seffner, FL • April 24 – April 28, 2022: Creek Fire, Savannah, GA • April 28 – May 2, 2022: Mt Pleasant, Charleston, GA • May 3 – May 6, 2022: Cape Hatteras Resort, Rodanthe, NC

• September 10 – September 18, 2022: Memphis, TN/ Arkansas • October 13 October 18: Gatlinburg, TN

RV camping is booming!! You can bring all the comforts of home with you to the campground. No hotel rooms, no traveling through airports, no worries about meals. Everything you need is with you onboard. This type of lifestyle offers you the chance to spend more time outdoors and experience different parts of the beautiful United States. Join us for an experience you will not soon forget! We welcome new members. Visit our website at https:// sites.google.com/site/cllrvclub/ or email us at call. rvclub@gmail.com. We are developing a list of medical equipment which residents have and who would be willing to loan on a short-term basis for your recovery period (wheelchairs, walkers, crutches, etc.) We have a list of various facilities in the greater Gainesville area that may be needed for recovery (rehab, memory care, assisted living, long term nursing care). We have a list of organizations that provide skilled in-home care. This information is available and comes with no recommendations by the Committee. If you need assistance or if you’d like to volunteer to be part of the CARE Committee in an effort to assist our neighbors, please contact Mary Quisenberry. Page 34

QUILTING CLUB

Want to IMPROVE BALANCE IN 2022? Want to INCREASE SPINAL STRENGTH AND FLEXIBILITY? Want to IMPROVE IN PICKLEBALL?

The Quilting Club meets every Thursday at 1:00 PM in the Arts and Crafts room. All residents are welcome to join us and learn about all the fun we are having.

Join us for Poolates, Tuesdays and Thursdays at 11:00 AM. This core-focused water class is dedicated to improving balance and core strength and increasing flexibility. This is not your average water aerobics class. Each movement is specifically designed to increase back and core strength through controlled movements. All levels are welcome!

Gerda Baidis was the winner of the Holiday Bazaar Raffle Quilt. Congratulations!

Here is feedback from two members. “My core strength, balance and flexibility have improved so much because of Poolates! I notice a big difference when I go hiking or just work around the house.” - Browder “My Spinal Doctor at Emory, Dr. Dreyer, encouraged me to take Poolates to strengthen my core and improve back issues, so I could avoid back surgery. I no longer need surgery, and my mobility has improved drastically. I even lost weight!” - Lynne

LIVING STYLISHLY WITH NEIGHBORS CLUB By Charlotte Stuckey

The Living Stylishly with Neighbors Club (LSWN) held our annual meeting in the Ballroom on November 3rd. We announced our new board members for the coming year and enjoyed a demonstration by Merck’s Florist on fall flower arrangements. A few lucky members won one of the raffles and got to take home the beautiful wreaths and centerpieces. Our last event for this year was going to see the musical play 9 to 5 presented by the Georgia Alliance Theater. What a spectacular show! We look forward to many new activities next year, especially having our fashion show in the spring. If you are not a member of LSWN, we hope you will join us for 2022. Yearly dues for old and new members are $5.00, and you can drop your check made out to LSWN in our mailbox in the back of the Lobby.

PICKLEBALL CLUB By Pat Burke

Well, Cresswinders, 2022 is the year to give pickleball, the fastest growing sport in the U.S., a try. The new Pickleball Club Board is in place and is planning lots of exciting activities. A ten-dollar check, payable to Cresswind LL Pickleball Club, entitles the member to periodic updates and inclusion in its many activities: training (novice and ongoing), competitive leagues, social scrambles, and sponsored tournaments to name a few. This past October our Pickleball Club participated in Kolter’s Annual Cresswind Cup along with six other communities from Florida, North and South Carolina, and Georgia. Our club took first place in the 2.5-3.0 mixed doubles division and second in the overall competition. So come join the fun, enjoy some great exercise, make some new friends, and help spur on your Cresswind Pickleball Club to bigger and better things in 2022!

SOCIAL SINGLES CLUB 2021 was a challenging year but despite the hurdles Social Singles was able to fit a lot of fun things into the agenda. We spent a day at Don Carter State Park, went to plays at Gainesville Theatre Alliance, took a boat ride on Lake Jocassee in SC, and took a group to the Atlanta Symphony for a concert by trumpeter Chris Botti. We enjoyed lunch & dinner outings, walked Wilshire trail, did kayaking, went to several local dance venues, and even a couple boat rides with Captain Bob before he sold his boat! We took advantage of the Cresswind pavilion, patio, and pool deck with dinners, summer picnic, Mingles, smore night, and new member getacquainted events. We tried our hand at painting bowls for the North Georgia Mountain Food Bank Page 36

and pumpkins for the scarecrow contest in the Cresswind Garden. We have started a volunteer program helping monthly at a local Food Bank plus a one-time outing to help clean several rooms at Eagle Ranch. We held a Boomer Trivia night, hosted our Veteran members at a potluck dinner, co-sponsored “Friendsgiving” at the clubhouse on Thanksgiving Day, and finished the year with the annual holiday party. Events for 2022 are lining up with the first on January 9th with the ever popular “White Elephant” exchange. Our goal is to offer a variety of activities and encourage everyone to get involved and share their ideas and interests. If you are single and would like more information, please access our link on the Cresswind website and share your contact information. We would love to have you join us!

Members at Large: Pat Bigard, Donna Fillmon, Norman Slovis, and Roger Otto Cindy Halperin and Sylvia Slovis organized our December Holiday Dessert party where we feasted on way too many sweets and enjoyed the eggnog. It was great to see so many tennis players and their spouses come out to celebrate the season together. Some of us did not recognize each other without our tennis attire! Despite the chilly weather, Bill Papciak and his team of skilled and patient instructors continued to hold tennis clinics that are open to the entire Cresswind Community. These clinics can strengthen your skills, improve your game, and sharpen your shots. Over 22 clinics were held in 2021. A special shout out to our instructors, all tennis club members, Jeff Agnew, Gene Evans, Jim Snell, Harry Takemura, John Ulam, and Gordon Watts. Harry Takemura continues to excel in his USTA play. His team is now the USTA 55+ 7.0 National Champions. Congratulations! We encourage you to become an active participant in all of our tennis activities in 2022. Cresswind Storytelling Club monthly sessions are mini-storytelling events. In each session, approximately a dozen stories are told, and even more members are just listening. There are no dues to be a member of the Storytelling Club – just a desire to tell or listen to a story that will make you think about some wonderful events in your life. Each month there is a “Guiding Theme,” but any story is welcome. Come join us – you will have FUN!

• Step 1 – Like most book clubs, members read a book at their leisure. Unlike most book clubs, readers can usually finish a playscript in a couple of hours. • Step 2 – Like most book clubs, members get together to discuss the book. Discussions are always lively with everyone encouraged to express their own views. • Step 3 – Unlike other book clubs, members may attend a live production of the play they have discussed. • Step 4 – This in turn may be followed by dinner after the show to discuss the play they have just seen. • Step 5 – Have Fun! https://www.cresswindpa. com/tgbc

What’s Happening

Cresswind Performing Arts Club (CPAC) The Cresswind Neighborhood Theatre has been very busy over the last few months AND 2022 will not be any different. In November we were thrilled to produce the dinner theatre show MURDER IN THE AIR. We had FOUR sold out performances and we appreciate the community coming out and supporting their neighbors. Thanks also to Cucina Milano Catering for providing the delicious meal! We are currently in pre-production for the Spring show entitled THE SAVANNAH SIPPING SOCIETY. Here is a brief description: “Over the course of six months, filled with laughter, hilarious misadventures, and the occasional liquid refreshment, four middleaged women successfully bond and find the confidence to jumpstart their new lives. Together,

they discover lasting friendships and a renewed determination to live in the moment—and most importantly, realize it’s never too late to make new old friends.” We promise to make you laugh and maybe even leave with a lump in your throat. The informational meeting for this show will be January 25th at 7PM in the Ballroom. Auditions will be February 1st. Keep an eye out for more information in the Daily Update. As an extra sneak peak, our Fall show in November will be...IT’S A WONDERFUL LIFE: A LIVE RADIO PLAY. It is set in the 1940’s so plan on some fantastic costumes AND a lot of sing-alongs! For more information visit our website at www. cresswindpa.com or we can be contacted at cresswindtheatre@gmail.com.
