Presidential Perspective I do hope everyone had as happy a Thanksgiving as I did. As a social club whose common interest is the Jaguar marques, family, friends, and cars are very important to us, but family and friends do come first. As I write this after a Thanksgiving feast with all the fixin’s, it’s a little hard to concentrate, what with the tryptophan kicking in, so maybe I’ll take a short nap and come back to it when my head clears. (Enter time lapse here). After a well-deserved nap, I am operating on all eight cylinders again. With the Election Luncheon behind us, I want to publicly congratulate our newly elected board members: Diah Avery, First Vice President; Diane Bauman, Secretary; and Dan Jensen, Director. I also want to publicly thank our outgoing board members: Ali Proctor, Secretary; and Mitch Cohen, Director, for their years of dedicated service to the club. Even though I have only been president during their last year, working with them on the board during their tenure has been nothing short of wonderful. As 2019 winds down, final preparations for our Holiday Party are in full swing. Registration closes very, very soon, so be sure to get your reservation in before it is too late. This year we are holding it at the Silver Gate Yacht Club, courtesy of Jim Hallameyer. In addition to a fabulous buffet and the installation of officers, we get to swing to the music of DJ Jonathan Mendoza again. Registration renewals for 2020 are coming in at a nice pace, so let’s keep them coming. Even though Nedra allows you to renew your registration up until February, it is a burden and logistical nightmare for her when you wait until the last minute to renew, so please go to the Registration Renewal page on our website and renew by the end of the year, using PayPal or by writing a check to the club. Hope to see you at the Holiday Party next week. Until then, take care Mark

SDJC Election Luncheon November 10th, 2019 Recap by Jim Hallameyer Pictures by Roger McDonald and Marie & Matt Allen The San Diego Jaguar Club held its Annual Election Luncheon on Sunday, November 10, 2019. The event was hosted by Jim Hallameyer at the Parma Payne Goodall Alumni Center at San Diego State University. Fifty members partook in a Mexican buffet lunch, shared some beverages, and enjoyed each other’s company. President, Mark Hodges took the podium to start the formalities and made general announcements including a preview of events planned for 2020. George Klein prepared the ballots and Ali Proctor conducted the election. The position of Vice President in charge of activities was open on the ballot, but after taking nominations from the floor, it was quickly filled by Diah Avery. Complete election results are as follows: President, Mark Hodges; 1 st Vice President/Activities, Diah Avery; 2nd Vice President/Membership, Nedra Rummell; Secretary, Diane Bauman; Treasurer, Dave Allen; and Director (thru 2020), Dan Jensen. Installation of the new Board of Directors will occur at the Holiday Party in December, ‌ which reminds me to remind you to make your reservations for this event now if you have not already done so. The luncheon concluded with a Raffle conducted by Diane McDonald with the assistance of Nedra Rummell who talked about her long-term friendship with the McDonalds and their pending move to Arizona. A loss for SDJC while a gain for Surprise, AZ. An enjoyable day was had by all. See you at the Holiday Party! Jim

Notes from the Concours Judges Tent December 2019 By Pete Rieth, Chief Judge, San Diego Jaguar Club

HAPPY HOLIDAYS to everyone and hearty congratulations to our newly elected Club Officers and Directors! First and foremost – As we close the 2019 competitive season, I want to offer my sincere thanks to all our Concours Judges and Scorekeepers – past, present and future: To those retired, those who have been on the team for years, and those who are newly certified. Concours forms a major part of SDJC’s annual activities as well as a focal point for interaction with enthusiasts and friends from other clubs in the Southwest and well beyond. SDJC has a well-deserved reputation for maintaining a very high standard of technical proficiency and adherence to the JCNA Rule Book standards of impartiality and fairness. Our own Chief Judges Emeritus Dick Cavicke and Paul Novak deserve great credit for having made this happen over the years. Special thanks to SDJC’s 8 Entrants and 4 Judges who supported the Inland Empire Jagstravaganza Concours in October. Once again, your individual and collective willingness to offer your technical expertise, diplomacy and professionalism (for which SDJC’s Judge Cadre is well known) went far toward making this year’s IEJC Concours d’Elegance a memorable and fun event. Congratulations to Tom Krefetz whose Series 1 E-Type scored a perfect 100 points! Our currently certified team of Concours Judges comprises: Dave Allen

Bits & Pieces from the Editor’s Desk Spare Parts and Such from Chuck Leuthen

Letters to the Editor This month’s contribution comes from Jim Hallameyer, our host for this year’s Holiday Party, who shares some memories past. SDJC Member and former Chief Judge, Paul Novak, will be hosting an event for us in April, 2020, at his spread in Ramona, Ca. We will be re-visiting his impressive Garage Mahal. Paul works on his Jaguars in this 1,500 square foot facility on the five-acre grounds where he and Debby have their beautiful home and well-tended gardens. For those of you who may have missed previous visits to Garage Mahal, re-printed here are a few photos of the last event in June, 2014.

Entrance of the Garage Mahal

The Holiday Season is upon us and, as I reminisce about the visit to Paul’s garage, I am also reminded of a piece I published in the December, 2015, issue of the Jaguar Tracks. It’s on the next page. Enjoy this ‘classic’ again. Happy Holidays to all of you. December 2019 19

... a visit with The Chief Judge by Jim Hallameyer, Editor - Jaguar Tracks

‘Twas the night before Christmas, at Garage Mahal, and everything’s well with Chief Judge Paul. His Jaguars tucked in all safe and secure, already being prepped for next year’s Concours. The Judge tidies up and stashes his tools, musing, “Tonight I’ll stay up and write some new rules.” He walks to the house in the dark of the night, but stops to gaze up at a wondrous sight.

Out of the North at Mach 1 coming near, a sleigh pulled by leapers instead of reindeer. A man dressed in red calls them by name, “On E-Type, on F-Type, tonight’s our big game!” “We have to make haste, so step it up boys, we don’t have much time to deliver these toys!” The leapers comply with a burst of great speed, their mission tonight all but guaranteed.

Paul pauses to smile and remember his youth, when he waited for Santa to land on his roof. Santa streaked on, disappearing from sight, “Ta-Ta to you, Paul, and to all a good night!” *with apologies to Clement Clarke Moore

A Public Service Announcement from your Editor This PSA is simply a warning to those of you who will be wearing your holiday season’s finest apparel to this year’s Holiday Party. This is especially important for those 42 new members who joined this past year and missed reading of my experience after last years Holiday Party. Please remember to hang up your clothes when you get home from this gala event. I made the mistake of draping my tuxedo over the armchair in my office and left the door open and paid the price. The picture to the left is our dog Jaxon. Jaxon is a 17 lb. Chihuahua-Shiba Inu mix with an appetite for anything wearable. The picture to the right is my tuxedo coat after Jaxon had a late midnight snack. Notice the lapel. I’ve purchased a new tux but this year but I’m taking precautions. We’re boarding Jaxon and staying in a local hotel next to the yacht club after the party. I’ve also sprayed all my cloths with “Yuck Doggie Deterrent”. See you at the Holiday Party. -Ed.

Editor’s Reminders Reminder #1: Remember when going out of town to print out a copy of the cover page of the most recent “Jaguar Tracks” and take it with you. When you find a good setting just snap a picture of yourselves holding up the cover page with a nice view of the scene behind you. And if you’ve got your Jag in the shot, even better. Then all you need to do when you get home is email the picture to chuckleuthen@cox.net along with a description of your location and I’ll do the rest to feature it in a “Where in the Word” article!

Reminder #2: Don’t forget about our “Getting to Know” feature! It’s intended to help all of us get to know each of you just a little bit better. Tell us about yourselves. Tell us how you became enamored with Jaguars, how you came to be part of our great club and anything else you’d like to share. Don’t be shy. If you don’t tell us about yourselves we’re just going to make stuff up. Might as well let the cat out of the bag and send me an email with a write-up and a picture to chuckleuthen@cox.net and I’ll run a feature!
